Darius Montgomery/The Shadow

Darius, injured but alive, fought unexpectedly for an injured man. He fought calmly and with patience. He had his left hand holding his side where the arrow had pierced him, and his right hand holding one of his daggers. Jamie was there backing him up, but at the moment he wish she would dissapear. He knew that it wasnt her fault but he had been in so many fights, so many battles, and not once had he ever recieved an injury of this caliber. Darius assumed this would take some time to heal. In his mind, he could not help but think thats what he gets for not looking out for himself primarily.

Darius faced countless more bandits with his blade alone, ducking and weaving around arrows being shot at him while engaging in swordplay one on one. At one point a bandit even managed to disarm him, locking blades with him then striking at his arrow wound. After that Darius had only his knives and fist to back him up. He struck the bandit who disarmed him in the throat with a quick jab, then jabbed at his gut, maneuvered around him, then reached out and wrapped an arm around the mans neck. He used all this muscle, and pulled back snapping the mans neck.

Darius moved back behind Jamie and continued to fight, picking up his dagger. At one point he even placed it in his mouth and wielded the second dagger in his hand. It was an old fighting style, fighting with dagger in hand and mouth, and unless you did not have both hands it would be quite inneffective.

Suddenly his attention was brought back from full battle mode to focused when the remaining bandits either ran away or dropped dead and their wounds began to heal. Darius looked down at his wound, and when he realized what was happening he yanked the arrow out, blocking a sharp muffle of sound of pain from escaping his lips. His wound started to bleed profusely, then not at all, then began to close up. Darius sat down trying to catch his breath, and collected his self. He examined himself and accounted for all his equipment. Then he turned his looking for Jamie.

Grant opened his eyes and examined his surroundings with a still head and darting eyes. He looked at Piper who layed next to him, arm crossed over his chest. He quietly and quickly detached himself from Piper, then quickly dressed himself. He grabbed a few leaves from his backpack and wiped them over his clothes. They were special leaves with special properties, able to hide his scent even from the strongest nose.

It took some time but Grant eventually found the house he was looking for. It was slightly out of the way, and if he didnt know better he would have passed it. But there was no mistake, this house hid the vampire who he called father. Grant prepared himself mentally. For a very long time he dreamt of this moment. He was sure he wanted, was sure that this was the best way to exact revenge. He practically threw himself over to the dark arts of assassination for this day. He knew his father was very old, and suppose to be strong, but other than that he had no idea what he was dealing with. Grant finished preparing himself and started his plan of attack.

Garrett layed in the hammock with Tabitha, content. "Tabby, I am so happy to be here right now. Only thing that could make this moment better is like..a gallon of blood."

Tabitha smiled, quite happy. "I'm so happy too" She thought for a moment, but couldn't think of a time where she may have been happier. She was always happy when she turned someone, just hugging them as they went through, and her projects made her happy. But this was different. "mmm Maybe we should stock pile blood"

Piper awoke to hear Grant take off at top speed. A little injured that he didn't stick around to at least say something to her she went back to the park and changed then ran back. She had questions for her uncle and aunt.

Piper found them laying in the hammock out back. She walked right up to them. She noticed how happy they were and she just knew they would have an answer. "I need to ask you guys something...." She took a deep breath. "Is there something real called love at first sight that is truly real or that whole soul mates thing? Do they really exist? Because if so, I think I just met mine and I'm really confused.. Does it exist and how do you know?"

Tabitha looked up at Pipers approach, thoughtfully trying to figure out how to answer that question. Or questions, rather. But the answer all amounted to the same thing. "I think the fact your asking those questions....is a good start. But....I don't know. I think anything is possible, in this world..." These questions just brought up questions for herself, and she frowned, puzzling over it. "But is it love, or lust, Piper?"

Piper looked at Tabitha. "I've never felt lust like that before. I was drawn to him and I practically raped him. However, you can't rape the willing." She blushed intently. "He said his name is Grant and he is here to kill his father. He is vampire but other than that...I don't know anything about him really. He took off on me as I was waking up."

"Maybe that is something different then." Tabitha said thoughtful, letting her mind wander, which was a good way to let herself think rather then trying to follow one single thought, she frowned "Why is everyone trying to kill everyone else suddenly?" She asked, but it was merely a thinking out loud, she didn't expect an answer.

Grant was on the roof, watching the encounter with very little curiosity. He saw Piper, but ducked his head and laid on his back out of sight from everyone. Why had she appeared here? Grant rubbed his temple, feeling the urge to go to her now that she was within his sights. He longed to stroke her hair, to feel her breath on the nape of his neck. To feel the soft touch of her lips pressed against his......

Then Grant shook his head. He had a job to do. He was here to kill his father. Garrett Prescott.

Grant made a small cut on both his wrist with his nails, and muttered words. "Torzv ol cnila."

The small amount of blood protruding form his wrists suddenly shivered then stopped moving. Grant willed them to start moving upwards to his palms. From there they began to take shape, forming into a small spear like shape. Once they took shape they soldified and Grant held his palms out, making the bloodsicles hover in front of his palms. Grant looked over at his father, took aim, then willed them to shoot out as fast as they could, aimed at his fathers head and chest.

Garrett suddenly flipped himself, blocking Tabitha and in the process taking both bloodsicles to the back. Garrett staggered slightly but then stood up straight, flexing his muscles and making both bloodsicles pop out. Garrett narrowed his eyes and looked back at where Grant was.

Grant spoke, raising his finger and pointing it at Garrett. "Como Pon!" Suddenly an almost visible barrel of wind shot out, aiming for Garrett.

Garrett stood his ground, then bared his fangs. He used his vampiric speed to rush forward, meeting the magic midair, and redirected the spell to the side. As he did it still slightly grazed him, cutting his hands. Garrett fell to the ground, and the moment his feet touched the ground he sped off and clashed with Grant on the roof. They fought each other using the martial arts they knew.

Piper was taken by surprise when she realized it was Grant attacking her uncle. "No!" She threw herself between them seconds later as she raced up to the roof and yelled "NO! Garrett this is Grant." Piper looked at Grant and said, "Garrett is my uncle, you can't kill him." She couldn't take her eyes off of Grant and this scared her a little. Why did he have this effect on her?

Tabitha was out of the hammock almost as soon as it tried to flip her, she quickly glanced about, and angered over everything, Tabitha followed Piper, and she barely restrained herself from attacking Grant, wondering if she'd forever be denied that for fear of hurting some family member or another. She crouched, ready to spring into action however, and held herself back from saying anything.

Grant and Garrett were divided, blocked from eachother by Tabitha and Piper. Grant looked at Piper, eyebrows raised in confusion and shock. "Piper I told you I came here on a mission. Patricide. I am sorry you have to be related to this foul man, but I must kill him."

Garrett, still full of adrenaline, was shocked to hear Grants words. Patricide? As in murdering daddy dearest? "Hate to dissapoint you child but to commit Patricide you must kill your father. If you were my kid I would know. We arent related."

Grant scoffed. "Dont think that pretending you dont know me will change anything. Denying your blood will only infuriate me more. Just because you abandoned my mother and I once doesnt mean you can ditch me forever."

Piper looked at Grant and then Garrett. "I know that but Garrett doesn't have any blood children. He is an original vampire like my mother and Tabitha are. The likelihood of you killing him is well, it's damn near impossible." She looked at Grant. "Please don't fight him anymore." She walked closer to Grant and slipped her hand into his.

Tabitha rose, but still, it was clear she was ready to move if required, "Denying it is the only option. We're dead, we don't have the ability to reproduce, so your mother lied" She said, "Aside from the fact its been 1200 years, and the three of us, with Lucinda have never been far apart, the science isn't there to back it up. Stop and think a moment, and maybe you'll figure out that just maybe, your mother lied about it, even a little bit"

Grant let go of Piper and set his bag down. He rifled through it and pulled out a necklace. It was a rather abnormal necklace, with a bronze string and attached to it was an ancient looking emblem. Ut was made of some sort of metal, with strange deisgns weaved into the metalwork. I was looped around itself in many spots, and looked as if it had two different colors. "You gave this to my mother. She said a friend of yours made it, and you gave it to her. I had a painting of you two together, and i memorized your face and name before the painting was destroyed. Mother said that she knew I was yours because she never had anyone before or after you."

Tabitha recognised the necklace, and as far as she knew, there were only three in existance, the three she had designed and made, how many centuraries okay? She didn't think anyone would have had the skill, and grace to be able to create it, back then, unless they were a vampire. Or maybe a werewolf. She frowned, "I made that. For the three of us" She said, her tone a little dejected.

Piper looked at it and said, "Lucinda has one just like it." Turning to Garrett she asked him. "What does this mean?" Turning to Grant she looked at him closer and she could see the resemblance to Garrett. She looked at Garrett and said, "He has your eyes and lips and your stubborness and obviously natural talent for fighting." She said this last part wryly. "How is this possible? Vampire's can't sexually reproduce, can they?"

Garrett reached for the necklace, then recoiled his hand. He remembered when he last held that necklace, and he knew that it was his necklace. This brought up many painful memories for him. Garrett looked at Grant and studied him. Piper was right, they shared many features. They did look similiar.

:Grant isnt it....whats your last name?"

"Holiday."

That settled it for Garrett. He had no idea how this could have happened, but he reproduced sexually. He had a son. He looked at Tabitha, and was ridden by an emotional roller coaster of pain and guilt. So far since they started he has been nothing but pain for her. Then he looked at Grant. "I believe you. Your mother was Siranna Holiday. Believe me please, the chances of a normal vampire reproducing is zero. Im.....im an original. Meaning Im one of the first three vampires. Like ever created. Its been so long we dont remember who was first second and third but im one of them. I guess that means I have a chance of reproducing, but honestly....it is such a minimal chance.......I had to leave because I...made a mistake. I angered too many people, got the three of us driven out of town. If I had known Siranna was preggers......"

Grant snorted and tensed himself for another attack on Garrett. He almost believed him...but he spent too much of his life simply to give up now after finally confronting him. But he sounded so sincere.

"Lies too protect yourself. You must have known. There is no way you did not know."

Piper stepped between them so she was in Grant's line of sight. "I need to talk to you privately. Come inside, we can talk in my room. He lives here he isnt going anywhere." She took his hand in hers and the reaction was instant and he didn't back away from her or do anything but follow her. She pulled him with her and into the house and then her room.

Once there she sat him on the bed and said, "The chances that he would actually reproduce sexually is so small it's microscopic. You are truly a miracle. I've heard the story a million times since I was turned. Yes, I am hybrid vampire/werewolf. I'm a bit of an anomoly myself." Piper sat next to him on the bed and smiled.

"I think that makes us both unique." Piper's voice lowered a touch. "Garrett had no idea. He and your mother were only together three weeks when the originals were run out of town. He mourned his loss of her for a really long time. So long that he drove Lucinda nuts about going back and she said no because ....well it's not fun getting chased and hunted every minute of the day. He really didn't know, if he did I'm certain he would have kidnapped her out of there to be with her." Piper hugged him.

As Garrett glanced at her, Tabitha realised that he probably felt bad, for her. And so she decided to make it a heck of a lot easier, taking a deep breath to calm herself, she knew she wasn't upset by this--over 1200 years, there would be surprises, even when they thought they knew each other. After all, she'd given him one the night before. And why should she be upset? The only reason she was even a little upset was because she'd created the necklaces for them.

As Piper took Grant away-probably a good thing-she approached Garrett, and simply gave him a tight hug.

Garrett sighed as he hugged Tabitha, and held her close. He was over the shock and confusion and disbelief, and now he was just.....Garrett didnt know. But he had his favorite defense mechanism. He leaned towards Tabitha's ear and spoke.

"Congratulations, your a mom!"

Grant sat with Piper and listened to her speak. He didnt know why, but even though he was dead set on finishing what he started he let himself be distracted and led away by her. Why did she have such a hold on him? "I just cant let go, not now. I have spent most of my life hunting him, and I went through so much pain and hardsip to be strong. What am I suppose to do if I believe him?"

Piper smiled softly, "You get to know your dad. Garrett is a really good guy. Lucinda and he were together before they became originals and she has had feelings for him ever since. I'm not sure they are the same strength but she still loves him in one way or another. Get to know him. I think it would change your life." She sighed and asked him, "Why did you leave me by the lake? Didn't you feel our connection?" She didn't want him to see that she had been a little hurt by that.

Tabitha was well aware that Garrett used humor as a defense, but she was completely astonished. She was, quite effectively, speechless. She stared at him, waiting for words to come. "That's not funny" She said, her tone astounded, "I don't think he'd see it that way, not when he wants to kill you" She said, gaining her balance back from being thunderstruck.

"What are we going to do?"

Garrett laughed, and when he calmed down he shrugged his shoulders. "Not sure. Would be nice if he didnt want to kill me, but it is what it is. But I know he exists now, so I am going to take care of him. He is my.....our family. I wont abandon him, and I wont let him go. Ill tie him to the radiator in the basement if I have to.:+"

Grant shrugged but did not meet Pipers gaze. "I did. But I have my mission......had my mission. What would you have done in my place?"

"Honestly? I would have spoken to you first. I wouldn't have just left you like you were just some booty call." Piper couldn't help how he had made her feel. "If you want to stay here at this house there is nothing that I think your dad would like more. You can even stay in this room with me...if I mean something to you."

Tabitha nodded as if she expected nothing less, "So maybe we should make the radiator stronger then" she said, glancing over the grounds, wondering how just about every perfect moment could be ruined lately. She looked back to Garrett and gave him a smile, "1200 years, and its like the universe wants to slam enough things to fill another 1200 in the space of a week"

Grant raised an eyebrow, but spoke in a monotone voice. "I.....guess that would be fine. I mean dont get me wrong, I do feel....whatever we have. It is obvious to me we have some type of connection. But you do get that this isnt normal right? Normal beings dont just randomly appear naked on another and then fall in love. Its gonna take me a bit of time to wrap my head around this whole thing. My dad not being the bastard I thought he was, and finding you."

Garrett laughed, almost doubling over, and he had to wipe the tears from his eyes. He kissed Tabitha and hugged her again. "I was joking, please dont tie anyone who isnt our enemy to the radiator. And I agree this whole week has been........very interesting to say the least. Hasnt been this crazy in awhile."

Garrett had a thought. "When things settle down, with Grant and Samuel, lets go away someplace. Somewhere vamp friendly where we can vacation in peace and just be with each other."

Piper didn't know how to take what he said. When he put it into words that way it made her feel like a tramp. "I'm gonna go see what is in the fridge." She said quietly and she walked out her door. She opened the door and took off to see Samuel. Maybe now would be the perfect time to join his pack.

Tabitha was glad, if not a little perplexed, that she could make Garrett laugh. She pondered the limitation on tying people to radiators, and thought she'd much rather beat the crap out of their enemies then tie them up.

"That sounds perfect" She said wistfully, wondering where that would be, but after a moments thought she decided she didn't care. "Well, we can make do for now, finding small moments of peace like before"
Garrett Prescott

9:00 AM

Garrett had spent the rest of the night going over the grounds of their temporary home. He wanted to make sure they had not been followed home, and that they at least had one place in this godforsaken town where his companions could lay their heads in peace. When he felt secure that they were safe he went back inside. He tried to get a small amount of sleep, but was unable to. When morning arose Garrett could almost feel the sun rays through the walls, feel the heat in the air. It bothered him that in all the time he spent on this planet he had not developed a way to block out the effects that the sun has on his kind.

Garrett went into the kitchen, and looked through the pantry and cabinets for food. Seeing the lack of pleasure food they had in stock, he checked the fridge. Again, nothing. Garrett sighed out loud. Why did Lucinda pick this place? They had no provisions except maybe some alcohol from last night, if Lucinda didn't drink it all. Which reminded him, why didnt he drink anything again? Garrett ran his hands through his hair, exasperated. This settled it, he needed to grab some supplies.

Garrett stepped outside and blocked the sun from hitting his eyes with his hand. He looked down and looked himself over. He wore his grey button up long sleeve dress shirt, slightly unbuttoned, with black jeans and shoes. In the blink of an eye, Garrett ran. With his speed he was much faster than the average vampire, and faster than the mortal eye can see. Garrett ran a few miles away until he stopped on the sidewalk on a market square. Down the road there was convient and grocery stores. Garrett pondered if he needed to get food food or....food. Garret sighed and set his mind. Tabitha would need to slake her thirst, and Lucinda is always in a better mood if she is full. He could stand for a bite too. But they could feast when they go to the Salazar district. Garrett ran into the walmart down the road, filled a cart with food and drink, then ran with the grocery bags in his arms back to the house. He quickly filled the kitchen. He wrote a note and left it on the counter.

[note: Tabitha, Lucinda, I have stocked the kitchen with the essentials. If you wish to slake your thirst you can wait until we go to the Salazar district and drink in peace, or you can grab a quick bite. Do try to be discreet if you hunt now. I have gone into the city and shall be back before I go to the Salazar district. Or I can meet you there. I will know if you two decide to stay and wiat for me or go ahead,
Garrett]

Garret walked out the door again and ran further into the city. He had some buisness to take care of.

Kendrick was awoken suddenly when a man next to him snapped his fingers in front of his face. "My liege, please do try to stay awake during important meetings," Kendricks royal advisor told him in a hushed voice. Kendrick shook his head slightly and tried to pay attention. In the past month since he took over, Kendrick spent more time trying to fix the huge amount of mess the previous king made. Kendrick was able to solidify his rule with the people in the city, which was not that diffucult considering his contributions to ending the previous rulers reign. Kendrick spent day after day in meetings with many colorful characters, ranging from unlawful gents who felt they were owed money still and other debt collectors, dignitaries from the other cities who wanted many things from him including but not limited to his cooperation, attention on certain matters, and they even tried to renegotiate trading agreements to work out more in their favor. Other meetings involved ordinary city folk who wished for audiences with the new king.

Today however they were discussing the new tax system. Now the old king has over moderate taxes set in place to help him afford his gambling habits, and one of the first things Kendrick had done was lower taxes. Today they were reviewing his decison and reflecting how it would affect the kingdom as a whole. Kendrick, while a capable warrior and leader, had come to the realization that he would rather be an exile again than have to stay in and listen to one more boring meeting. Kendrick had not expected this.

Kendricks mind started to wander again, this time to Zach. He had been hurt pretty badly the day he took back the throne, and in the month that has passed Kendrick was relieved to see Zach almost back to full strength. He still had positions to be filled and he wanted Zach, Niesha, and Sofia to fill them. Niesha had been a tremendous help to him when she wasnt by Zachs side. Since his coronation he had to be inserted into the royal leger, or at least start a new one since his bloodline was newly royal. He made the decision to make Niesha his cousin, officially, since thats what was said on their wedding day. He had not told her this yet though, as he had been very busy the last few days. As his cousin Niesha would be practically even more royalty than before.

And speaking of Sofia, Kendrick was lucky enough to stop day dreaming at the moment he caught Sofia's eyes as she peeked through the courtroom doors. Kendrick smiled, then stood up.

"Yes yes execellent work today everyone. But as it happens-,"Kendrick said as he pretended to be in pain,"I feel as if I have the stomach pain. I must dash off for now. No need to follow me." Kendrick looked his royal advisor, then his gaurds."Stay.....stay."

Kendrick laughed internally as his gaurds chuckled and his advisor frowned. Kendrick walked out of the courtroom, then turned his head to look for Sofia. She couldnt have gotten far.

Sofia had gotten bored with her meetings about designer dresses and charity work and she had gotten irritated with her maids continually fussing with her hair and makeup. Finally, she had told them all to leave her and she had gone into her room undressed and put on a comfortable walking dress like she used to wear. It was still warm out so she wore one that barely came to her knees which was apparently shocking for a queen. She chuckled and then she had begun taking her hair down and scrubbed her face. When she had looked into the mirror she hadn't even recognized herself. Now that she looked like her true self she had gone to see if she could find Kendrick. She wanted to be footloose and free for the day and they both needed that desperately.

She was watching him in his boring meeting. She caught his eyes once and he started ending the meeting. She could see his need for normalcy and when she saw him heading toward the door she bolted down the hall and slid just out of his sight around the corner. She peeked to see where he was and he almost scared her to death and she laughed as her arms encircled his waist. "My love, we have got to take a day away. If we don't I fear my hair will all fall out." She kissed his neck softly and felt his warmth against her. "Let's go to the lake. We don't have to tell anyone. No guards, just us? Maybe a picnic with Niesha and Zach later today?"

Niesha was reading a letter from her brother. Since, due to their fathers death, he had gone from a minor lord to a great Lord, he had come to court to pay homage to the new king. Niesha hadn't been able to stay away from Miquel, they had been communicating by letters. It seemed that even after a few correspondants it wasn't enough to cover two years worth of life. Her brother hadn't seemed surprised to find her alive, which had puzzled her, but she didn't ask, not wanting to bring up the fact that she had faked it. His latest letter made her smile, but she wasn't sure what to say to the offer to visit. She had a Nephew and Niece that she hadn't met, and that unnerved her slightly.

She sighed, putting the letter aside to respond to later, when she could think on it. Despite the fact that she hadn't particularly liked her father, and that he had tried to kill her, nearly kill Zack, Niesha had done what she could for her brother to deal with the arrangements of his burial. It wasn't for her father, but her brother that she did so.

With things changing, after the events of overthrowing the old king, Niesha found that she hadn't had much time for her clinic, but she had been thinking of adapting it for what she had first dreamed of when making the clinic hers. Making it larger, having others working there, making it a place where those that couldn't afford care could come, without fear of having any bill to pay, was something she wanted to do, and with how things were, she thought it might be possible.

She glanced to the letter, tempted to read it again.

Kendrick embraced Sofia tightly and kissed the top of her head,

"Sounds perfect. And I have some big news, so having Zach and Niesha there with us is very important."

Kendrick held Sofia's hand in his and walked with her down to the kitchen. As they entered the kitchen, the staff gasped and bowed.

Kendrick laughed."Guys, guys calm down. Raise your heads there is no need to bow ive told you again and again. But if you guys dont mind I need a picnic basket filled enough for four."

The cooks all smiled and quickly put together a picnic basket. They offered the basket to him.

Kendrick took the picnic basket."Thanks guys!"

Kendrick walked out of the castle with sofia in one hand and picnic basket in another.

"Lets go back to your old house, prepare there and then look for Zach and Niesha in a bit."

Sofia smiled wide and kissed him on the cheek. As they walked outside one of the guards was caught offguard and started to choke on an apple and Sofia whacked him on the back and made sure he was breathing before they walked to the village. "I can't seem to get used to all of the fluff of being a queen. I never had any idea that her job was basically just to change dresses and hair and makeup all day and listen to politics but not to say anything unless she was asked directly unless of course the king is not there."

As they made their way into the village people had to do a double take. One of their neighbors came up to Sofia and the King and bowed. Sofia sighed. "My queen? Are you in disguise? Is there trouble at the castle? Should I round up the men for a revolt to storm the castle and take it back?"

Sofia looked at Kendrick with a mixture of laughter and frustration. "No thank you, all is well. We are just playing hooky for the day." This answer got her both a smile and a nod. "Have a wonderful time m'lady, sire."

Zach looked up as his sister and brother in law arrived on foot and alone. He grinned. "I'm surprised that you managed to escape the confines of the nobility."

Sofia hugged her brother tightly. "I've missed you. You have no idea how tiring it is to change clothes for every damned thing. It's truly exhausting." Automatically slipping her arm back around Kendrick she asked, "So can we tempt you and Niesha into a picnic by the lake this afternoon? We need to get away and thought this was perfect."

"Niesha, can you come out here please. Look who has come to visit."

Niesha was already coming out at the sound of voices, recognising Sofia's voice, she smiled, "A pleasant surprise." She said brightly, "I'm hoping nothing has happened" Neither of them looked worried or panicked, so she assumed that was a good sign. "And yes, I do know how tiring it is to change clothes for everything. There were some days when I think I spent more time changing the doing anything else "

Kendrick smiled and held up the basket.

"By royal decree your king declares it is picnic time. Hope you guys can take a break for a small bit of time. Well more than hope. I have some news I need to share with you guys. All three of you."

Sofia grinned and went into the house to get a couple of blankets to use by the lake. Zach pulled everything out of the fire and soon the four were on their way to the lake and it wasn't long before they could see the water. For some reason it always soothed Sofia to be by the water. She was so happy to be out of the castle that she looked like a child on Christmas morning. Once they picked out the area the ladies spread the blankets and set up the food. "Shall we swim first or eat and talk?"

"Lets talk."

Kendrick patted Zach on the shoulder then took a seat on the blankets. He faced everyone as he spoke.

"So.....as everyone is aware when we all got married to our significant other, that there was a slight complication. I had to vouch for Niesha and made some statements that werent true."

Kendrick pulled and held out a rolled up document.

"So I rectified that. As of now Niesha is first cousin to current king, related by blood before marriage to her husband, whose sister is the queen. Lady Niesha has nobility status equivalent to the royal family, titles, wealth, and land. All the informaiton is in this document."

Bemused by Kendrick's announcement, and touched that he would go to such lengths to cover their butts, had Niesha fall silent for a moment. She stared at the document for a moment, before saying "You'd make me a lady again? The first time round didn't stick" She smiled, amused, "Thank you, for then, and now."

The thought of being back to nobility status wasn't shocking to her, not now really. There wasn't anything to fear, now that she didn't have to be afraid of her father. She didn't care what status she held, what she did. She was happier then she'd ever been.

Zach smiled. "Thank you Kendrick. That was very kind of you to ensure that the loose ends were all properly tied up. I know that it might not be likely to have happened but it could have happened had her brother wished to push it." He looked at Niesha and pulled her to him like a child does his favorite teddy bear and teased her. "Hear that? You are all mine....forever and ever, even if you get sick of me." He kissed her and grinned mischevously. "I'm starving, what's in the basket?"

Sofia giggled and watched as Zach opened the basket and started pulling things out. Sofia just lay in Kendrick's arms in the fresh air and inhaled it deeply. "Mmm, I smell fried chicken." She mumbled hungrily.

Kendrick sniffed the air and smiled.

"Thank the Gods someone had the genius to slaughter a chicken and fry it. The best dish I have ever eaten."

Kendrick stroked Sofia's hair as he spoke. He was happy to have this little retreat away from responsibility. He missed the late night vigilantism, and being able to have privacy, but at the same time he finally felt empowered to make the changes he always wanted, for the better of the people.

"By the way I should mention two things. One, if Me and Sofia die before we produce an heir you guys are the quick replacement for King and Queen. But in the mean time I need I need more people I trust in the castle. What will it take to get you guys to come work inside the castle?"

Zach nearly choked on his chicken. "What?" Wiping his mouth he said "Well then you'd better not die because I'd make a terrible King. He looked at Kendrick and lifted his glass. "Here's to you both living to a ripe old age!" After he drank deeply he glanced at Niesha and back at Kendrick who was absentmndedly stroking Sofia's hair. Zach chuckled.

"You want me to move my forge to the castle? Do you realize how long the forge would be down in order to move it? It would be weeks and weeks just to cool it down properly. Niesha could move her practice into the castle much easier than I could move my forge."

Niesha listened to what Kendrick was saying, letting her mind wrap around it, there were a couple of things she suspected. "I agree, I can handle being nobility again, but there's no way I want to be Queen, Don't die. Apart from that, I'd rather not lose anyone else" She said.

"I...I can't leave my clinic, it does so much good. I want it expanded, and at least having two healers on staff. You...what are the jobs you want us to fill?" She didn't think that Kendrick just wanted them in the castle, not when he had said that he wanted people he could trust.

Kendrick shook his head.

"Its ok Niesha. Essentially I was hoping you could continue your line of work in the safety of the castle, but I understand. But what you guys do is essential. So any funding you need to expand or hire more help or gain more resources is yours. Without question."

Kendrick reached over and grabbed one of the bottles, taking a big drink then offering some to Sofia.

"I may be paranoid, but I feel uneasy right now. The old King had many people he owed and I feel like they would be willing to do harm to anyone I am close to just to get their money."

Sofia looked at Zach and said quietly, "I was hoping that I might be able to talk you into taking the head of security for the castle. When I worked there there was always something that needed to be stopped. Someone angry with the king looking to get back at him for some trivial matter and since we are trying to have a baby I thought it might be enough to ask you to take the position. We need you brother, please?"

Zach looked at his little sister and slowly nodded and looked at Niesha. "We are too, and yes, I'll just work from the forge when I'm home." Sofia slid over to her brother and hugged him tightly. "Thank you so much. You'll never know how much this means to us."

Zach hugged his sister and looked at Kendrick over her shoulder. He could tell that like it or not Kendrick had fallen for his sister completely and he just wanted to keep her safe.
