As in they only just got into it and thus haven't really learned it fully? I do have an excuse to make that work, but they do at least need to be part of the player base (even if they're just casual and don't know much) since that's where the company is selecting kids from.

In the late 90's, collectible Mons were all the rage. There were several games and toy lines attempting to sell their merchandise and entertain audiences, but one stood out among the rest: Digimon. It began as a manga in Japan that was later adapted into an anime. That anime proved successful enough to warrant an international release, and thus Digimon became popular worldwide. From this popularity, a trading card game was born, one where players built a deck with Digimon they could apply power up cards to in an attempt to overpower their opponent. It proved popular enough, and the Cards remained in print for several years.

But soon a gaming company called D-Connect came along. At the time of D-Connects formation, the Digimon trading card game had waned in popularity, and rights to the cards and monsters they represented were purchased by D-Connect for purposes that were soon revealed. D-Connect's enigmatic President, Ken Kuroda, unveiled his brilliant idea: the D-Scanners. Resembling Digivices, D-Scanners came with a Digi-egg pre-installed. It would hatch into a Digital Digimon, able to be raised like previous popular digital pet games, but this one came with a twist. The Digimon in the D-Scanners were programmed to be compatible with the card game, meaning players could apply power ups from the TCG to boost the Digimon's abilities. Coupled with the D-Scanners' ability to connect via WiFi and allow the stored Digimon to engage in battle, this reinvigorated Digimon's popularity, with D-Scanners selling like hot cakes all over the world.

Now, in the present day, Digimon is as popular as it's ever been. Several new manga and anime series have been made since the original, and both the D-Scanners and the TCG have been regularly updated to keep up with them. In fact, battling Digimon through the D-Scanners have become a rather popular sport in and of itself, spawning tournaments in regions around the world complete with rules and regulations, and even ban lists for the TCG aspect of the game. In fact, it's become all too common for Digimon battles to be used as a means of settling disputes. This popularity and widespread play has made the game far more influential in the economy and politics than it ever was at first, and this of course also applied to D-Connect, the company becoming rather enigmatic in its dealings and Ken Kuroda, its president, making only rare public appearances anymore. It's been the cause for some speculation among the populace.

This only increased further when - on November 29, 2016 - a Digital phenomena occurred in an Electronics store in Tokyo, Japan. Several computers and other devices within the store went haywire and suddenly produced a vicious creature made up of digital data that rampaged. It caused substantial damage to the store, but soon after its appearance it vanished back into the circuitry from which it originally came. All eyes were suddenly on D-Connect when the creature was described as looking vaguely like a Digimon. D-Connect found itself under fire both legally and by the media, and as such was quick to ensure the public that the "Cyber Beast" - as it was dubbed - was not their doing, but that they would work to find out the creature's origin and help create a means to prevent such an attack from happening again in the future.

Behind closed doors, D-Connect greenlit "Project Destiny" and on December 6, 2016 a cryptic email was sent out to a select group of players within their gaming database, the email even being signed by Mr. Kuroda personally. This email informed the readers that they had been chosen for a special promotion of an upcoming update for the game, and they would be given an exclusive tour of D-Connect's headquarters in Tokyo, all expenses paid. As if to sweeten the deal even further, the email promised the recipient an actual meet-and-greet with Mr. Kuroda himself as well as early access to the newest set of cards currently in line for a Christmas release. This email, should the chosen players - the Tamers, as they are called within the gaming circuit - accept the invitation, their world would be changed forever.

Because, you see... it's no longer just a game.

That's the plot. The game started a couple of months ago, but dropouts slowed things down and we're actually still in the first battle/mission. In other words, its not too late to bring in a couple characters as late comers. If you're interested just click that shiny thread link above and you'll learn the rest of what you need to know from within!

The small canyon road leading the old REPCONN site was probably the closest thing to feel like home for a certain woman hiding among its outcroppings. Of course, it was nothing compared to Red Rock Canyon, but it was preferable to the little town being overlooked by a giant plastic dinosaur at least. The Khan hid herself in this little outcropping to keep herself out of sight of a nearby NCR Ranger. The less Jean had to interact with NCR, the better overall. But the Ranger looked like she was heading right toward the test site. That would make things largely unpleasant. The test site was also Jean's destination. Supposedly, the rocket fuel could be distilled and converted into a reagent for stronger chem dosages. A "way more gnarly kick", as Jack and Diane put it. So naturally Sonny, in his infinite "wisdom" decided that an abandoned rocket facility deep in NCR-territory that also had hordes of Ghouls coming out of its ass was the perfect solo mission for Jean. It wasn't the first time Sonny had her sent far away, most of the time it was for supplies that could probably be found closer to Red Rock Canyon, with Sonny just looking for an excuse to get Jean out of his hair for a while.

"Thanks for the suicide mission, Sonny." Jean muttered to herself under her breath after she heard gunshots up ahead. Sounded like her little Ranger "friend" was drawing attention to herself. Any decent person would probably jump in to help, but Khans weren't exactly known for their chivalry. Instead, Jean turned around and found herself climbing up the rocky wall behind her. One didn't live their entire life in a place like Red Rock Canyon and not develop any rock climbing skill. As long as the Ranger was drawing attention, Jean could use the distraction to slip by, hopefully unnoticed.

"Shit!" Jean hissed to herself, almost aloud but managed to stifle it into a whisper. Her left foot slipped and she nearly lost her footing. Thankfully the Khan was able to catch herself before falling and instead pulled herself up to the top of the wall to safety, "Too close... note to self: remember to 'thank' Sonny when I get home." she didn't care if he was leader or not, she'd find some way to kick that bastard's ass for this. She could just picture him now, laughing it up in Papa's long house and privately hoping Jean'd get herself killed out here. Wouldn't that just be all too convenient for him?

"I wonder how my little Ranger is doing?" she whispered, Jean scanning the road below for the source of the gunshots. The Ranger wasn't hard to spot, her big brown trench coat didn't really do her any favors in terms of blending in. It looked like she just downed a trio of Ghouls with nothing but a sidearm. In fact... was she even carrying another weapon? What kind of Ranger didn't carry a Service Rifle? Or at the very least a Hunting Rifle or Winchester? Right about now Jean found herself in a position to make an interesting decision. Should she lend the Ranger a hand? If she did, the Ranger would be in her debt, and Jean could use that to make the Ranger help her get what she needed. An extra pair of eyes and hands could prove helpful. Or maybe she should use this commotion to slip by and stay hidden?

"Hmm... decisions, decisions."
In other words you expect us to be OK with someone bringing a blatantly OP level 30+ character into what is essentially a party of level 1s AND be allowed to order us around and hijack the story? Yeah I couldn't possibly see how that would be blatantly unfair. Nope, not at all. -_-
@Letter Bee Character's done now.
Name: Jean Khan

Age: 25

Looks: (picture optional)

Personality:
Cold and distrusting, mostly. At least to outsiders. Then again, some would argue that the Khans have good reason to hate the outside world after what happened at Bitter Springs. Jean is no different, but unlike most she will at least hear a stranger out before passing judgement. Unless they're NCR, in which case they can just fuck right off, to put it in her own words. Despite such a prickly attitude, Jean doesn't actually go out of her way to pick a fight, not even with NCR. But don't think that means you'll get away with taking a shot at her or doing anything that would just piss her off in general. Jean keeps a lot of pent up rage inside and it shows when she fights... or when she's drunk. But if you can get past the thorny attitude and anger issues, you'll find a young woman who most might actually say is justified in her ways, even if she does have a massive chip on her shoulder.

Backstory:
To understand Jean's story, one must look no further than the history of the Great Khans as a whole. Under the rule of Papa Khan, the Khans kept to themselves, living with an isolationist policy. Contact with other tribes and factions was kept to a minimum unless it was for trading. Conflicts between the Legion, NCR, and Mr. House was considered none of the Khans' business and so they opted for neutrality. Knowing the Khans' long and deadly history as a tribe of raiders, the NCR apparently decided they couldn't just leave them be. If they weren't dealt with, the Khans could become a threat again, so they launched a surprise attack against a Khan encampment at the Bitter Springs campground. Instead of soldiers, the NCR instead found women and children, defended only by a handful of actual soldiers. It wasn't a battle, it was an outright massacre. Still, the NCR believed that such a demoralizing blow would surely spell the end of the Great Khans, especially when reports came of Papa Khan being among the dead. The NCR couldn't be more wrong.

Instead, Bitter Springs served as a wake-up call to most of the Khans. For years they were living in what they now realized was naivety, and that now they had no choice but to pick a side and fight for survival. No one believed this more than a man named Sonny. Smilin' Sonny - or so he was called - was one of Papa Khan's trusted lieutenants, considered by many to be his right-hand man. With Papa gone, it seemed only natural for Sonny to take over and fill in his shoes. Only one person didn't like the arrangement, and that was Jean. Jean Khan was a young and eager scout, and also Papa's only daughter. She would have been slaughtered at Bitter Springs if not for sheer luck. It just so happened that she and Papa had an argument the week before and he "punished" her by sending her out on a long-distance supply run, Jean only returning in time to see the aftermath of Bitter Springs. She also always hated Sonny, who for the longest time kept calling her "his girl" and claiming that she would be his one day sooner or later. When Jean tried to oppose Sonny's takeover, he rightly pointed out that the Great Khans have - and always would be - a patriarchy, that no Khan would be caught dead swearing loyalty to a female leader.

Sonny even tried to brow-beat Jean into marrying him, that their union would only strengthen the Khans. Jean could only spit at the idea, but would have been forced into an arranged union if her mother hadn't stepped in and offered to marry Sonny instead. Jean felt a strong sting that day, seeing this as her mother not only betraying her but Papa's memory as well. Over the next three years Sonny has been working to mobilize the Khans to join Caesar's Legion and exact revenge on the NCR. As much as Jean despised the NCR for what they'd done, she couldn't help but feel this was the wrong decision. How could they possibly know if the Legion would treat them any better? For that matter, this new policy was in direct opposition to Papa's former policy of staying neutral and isolated. Maybe it was her loyalty to her father, or maybe it was her hatred for Sonny? Either way, Jean couldn't let him get away with this. One day, out of the blue, Jean challenged Sonny to trial-by-combat in order to win leadership of the Khan's from him. It was an old law, one the Khans hadn't needed to use in a long time, but Sonny accepted.

Jean never stood a chance. She was still young and inexperienced, and Sonny was Papa's strongest lieutenant, and and had even survived Bitter Springs. It was no contest, and Sonny was all too eager to finally shut Jean up for good. After all, this sort of battle was, by law, to the death. Jean would have died that day, and frankly she really should have. But someone stepped in to save her at the last moment. Jean's mother - whom rest of the tribe affectionately called Big Mama - invoked another of the Khans' old laws. She offered to take Jean's punishment herself. According to older Khan laws, it was perfectly acceptable for someone to offer themselves in place of another to spare them the punishment in exchange for a full pardon of the accused's crimes. Sonny was reluctant, but didn't want to risk angering the tribe by ignoring one of their laws. And so Big Mama was killed in Jean's place, and Jean now found herself without a mother or father, and her entire tribe seemingly turned against her by this smiling bastard who wasn't even born among the Khans. A little known secret about Sonny was that he used to be an outsider who joined the tribe after proving himself.

More determined than ever, Jean has sworn to herself that come hell or high water, she would take back the tribe from Sonny and see him put in his place.

Right... going to assume Acid had some real life shit to deal with. Their last login was like a month ago. I'll move us forward but we should definitely reopen applications and see if we can't get any new players before we get too deep into this.
Nexus Town ~ Ruins of Dar-al-Hikma

After the stranger's departure, Ganma found himself in an almost constant conversation with the A.I. called Asma Al-Jazari. He found himself learning things that no tome or scroll could teach him. Whatever this old palace was, it apparently had a sophisticated security system.

"So you're saying this 'Master' of yours instructed you to share some your secrets with us?" Ganma asked, having wanted to ensure he was following all of this straight. Mantis was there as well, but he was more incredulous of the whole thing. Not that that was surprising, he was usually quite suspicious of everyone. An unfortunate side effect of being able to read minds it seemed.

"That was Master Hakim's instruction, yes." Asma's response was short and to the point. Also somewhat cold, which made sense given her computer nature.

"Well however you can improve things for the town, I'm all for it." said Ganma with a shrug, "Feel free to keep recording what happens around town, but in the future we should keep access to that information on some kind of password basis. Wouldn't want the wrong people being able to spy on us after all."

"Acknowledged. All surveillance access is to be locked behind a password. Please input new password to confirm command." the A.I. was surprisingly compliant with that request. Probably another of Hakim's orders.

"Let's make it... Outcast009A. That should suffice."

"Password confirmed. New protocol will begin immediately."

"Are you sure about all this?" asked Mantis finally, "Pretty sure I've seen this scenario in a movie once... it didn't end well for them." frankly, the A.I. woman gave him the creeps. Any sentient being without a mind for him to read just didn't seem right to him. Of course, there were those with strong enough minds to resist, but this thing was different.

A Corridor of Darkness opened up nearby, preventing them from continuing the conversation. A hooded figure stepped through wearing a familiar obnxious grin on his face.

"Well look what the cat dragged in." said Mantis in a snide tone, "You've been gone awhile this time - is that a good sign or bad?"

Seth shrugged, "Eh, little of both actually." and after a chuckle he got a good look at the hologram, "So uh... what's with the light show here?"

"My name is Asma Al-Jazari," the hologram answered, "I was activated by Master Hakim and instructed to protect this town. You are... Seth, correct?"

Seth cocked an eyebrow beneath his hood, "So that old bastard's been here, huh? He's pretty persistent to come back here to investigate me."

"Wait... you know him?" Ganma asked, having been quiet but suddenly taking an interest again.

"I guess," replied Seth with a shrug, "old man tried to test me or some crap like that. But, well you know how I am with tests. He said I didn't 'deserve the right to be' or whatever. Of course, it takes more than a salty old man to get rid of me."

This made both Ganma and Mantis tense up ever-so-slightly. Had they known the guest had been hostile to one of their own, they likely would not have given him nearly as much of a friendly welcome.

"So that's why he came here..." Ganma said thoughtfully.

"You never said why you're here now." Mantis pointed out, "Thought you were on some job?"

"Yup," Seth chuckled, "still am. But something important came up. For the first time since I left here, I may have actually found a real clue about my home world." this got their attention.

"Really? Well, by all means, we're listening." said Mantis, naturally incredulus. People he could read and those that could resist him were things Mantis could handle. Seth, on the other hand, was a weird case. Mantis could read the Nobody's mind, but it was always blank or a jumbled up mess at best. Imagine trying to read a book with blank pages, pages that had been torn out, and other pages that had been completely rearranged. That was Seth's mind in a nutshell.

"We were attacked by a ship we didn't recognize. We got away but they sent us a pretty bitter warning that we wouldn't escape next time. I dunno who she was, but according to one of my employers she apparently hates me something fierce. She may just be the clue I need to finding what I'm looking for."

"Fat chance of that," Mantis said, "you'd have to ask her, and she doesn't sound very talkative to me."

"I know that." Seth turned to Mantis specifically, "Which is why you're going to read her for me."

"Wait, what?"

"C'mon, Mantis, you said it yourself. She's not gonna share any information with me any time soon. I'd have to read her mind, and I just so happen to be good friends with a mind reader."

"You want me to just leave here? Pack up and go gallavanting around to other worlds like you? You don't honestly think Ganma will let me-"

"It's not an invalid idea, Mantis." it was Ganma. Normally, Ganma was apprehensive about letting people come and go. It was dangerous to travel between worlds. But he also knew that Seth had been doing it for five years and if he wasn't dead yet, that obviously meant he'd found a safe way to do it. So for this instance, Ganma was willing to make an exception.

"Ha!" Seth laughed, "Guess you can't use Ganma as an excuse now. So come on. My employers are waiting for me." a new Corridor leading back to the ship was already opening and awaiting them.

"I swear to God, Seth, if I die out there I'm going to kill you."

Back on the Ship

Seth had slipped out a little while ago. After chatting with Tocsax about their mysterious lady stalker, he told his fellow Nobody he was going to slip back over to Nexus Town. He was going to get some extra back up for the mission he told them. In actuality, he wanted to recruit Mantis in order to use his psychic powers to learn about the mysterious girl. Still, with Mantis around, they should have no problem sniffing out any traps or ambushes waiting for them.

"Yo, everyone. Guess who's back?" Seth quipped after he stepped through the Corridor that opened up right in the midst of everyone. He was without his coat, and he was soon followed by someone else wearing it. They immediately removed the coat and returned it to Seth.

This revealed his companion to everyone. A man in a black, sleeveless leather suit and a gas mask wrapped around his shaved head.

"And I brought us some extra back up. Everyone, this is Mantis." Seth said with a gesture, "Psychic soldier extraordinaire. As long as we have him, we can kiss running into traps and ambushes goodbye."
