Current You'd think after like 15 years I'd stop feeling like a fraud when writing posts but I still do which is both a statement on my self confidence and a compliment to how good my partners are as writers

Cass, Mina and Xiang could have their battle and win quotes all conpletley rearranged between each other and most of the fanbase would barely notice.

That is blatantly untrue and you know it. Xianghua going "JUST KIDDING!" in mid-combo is damn near a part of her character as her annoying feints in the first place. Seong Mi-Na and Cassandra are like tertiary characters at best but even still their battle quotes and win voices are still unique to them. Most of Cassandra's lines are about Sophitia or how shit her opponent wound up being while Mi-man mentions her father and her own bravado. Practically every character's win quotes have something to do with how much better they are than their opponent - that's fighting games - but they all have their unique spin and cadence.

Yeah and I found those bits of Godfather 2 boring, unlike RDR2 it wasnt a total prequel and it had 'current' parts to it.

I generally dont like prequels because I feel like all tension is taken from them.

This is why when Han in Fast and the Furious films is in a death defying car chase I dont feel any excitement or tension for his life because I know hes not going to die until tokyo drift.

Do you not like action movies or Bond movies because you know the hero is going to win in the end? You know the fate of Darth Vader but that didn't make the prequels worse. Knowing that the Titanic sinks doesn't make Titanic a worse movie. Dutch's gang in RDR was down to like three people and RDR 2 is about the gang in its heyday and there are far more characters involved that the story can be built around. You don't even know the scope of the narrative but you're already saying it can't possibly be good, or that it's ruined, because you know the fate of Marston, Dutch, and Ross beforehand. Knowledge of future events doesn't invalidate or lessen a story or its characters. You know any given action hero in a film or game is going to pull through, the tension comes from the moments where that safety net is yanked away even for a moment.

And Han wasn't in that many death defying car chases until like the end of 6 - which was coincidentally the last movie before Tokyo Drift re-entered canon. In 4 he was only in the beginning, in Five he mostly hung out with Giselle and was disguised as a cop during the heist, in 6 he had the fight scene with Roman and otherwise just spent the movie saving Giselle because subtle is not in the vocabulary. In that instance the tension isn't from the fact that Han makes it to Tokyo, but that Giselle doesn't.

And for the record, up until the sixth movie Tokyo Drift was barely canon and considering 4 was all but a soft reboot and 5 retconned Brian and Roman's relationship it's easy to forget that Tokyo Drift barely factors into the overall universe.
Isnt the story somewhat spolied because we know major characters like Dutch and Edgar Ross can't die due to canon?

Sure, because those are the only characters in the game and it's not like prequels are lesser because of information known already. The Godfather 2 is spoiled because we know Vito Corleone doesn't die until later in life.
Xianghua Seong Mi-Na and Cassandra dont vary much in terms of being young spunky adventurer girl looking to support thier significant person (Kilik, Yun-Seong & Sophitia respectively).

Seong Mi-Na is a tomboy who wanted to prove herself and, when denied entry into military service because of her gender, set out on a foolish quest to claim Soul Edge which was pre-emptively ended. She ran away again because she didn't want to be married off and wound up losing to Ivy because she was cocky and over-confident. She's not looking to support Yun-Seong. Yun-Seong got denied training by Mi-Na's father and she felt sorry for him, gave him an heirloom, then decided to chase after him to keep him from getting Soul Edge because it's an evil sword.

Xianghua is spunky and childish and got wrapped up in the Soul Edge business because she was a member of the Imperial Guard and the Emperor of China wanted the sword - she met Kilik and Maxi and joined up with them partly because the sword is evil and partly because of her mother. Good thing, too, since Xianghua's sword turned out to be Soul Calibur. After falling out of favor with the Emperor for failing to find Soul Edge and learning that there are Soul Edge fragments, she decides it is her duty to destroy them. Kilik doesn't enter the picture until later when, yes, Xianghua admits that she has feelings for him, but her goal was always to destroy Soul Edge not support Kilik. She leaves Kilik behind to train harder only to reunite by chance later on.

Cassandra is hardly spunky adventurer girl considering her quest is to shoulder her sister's burden and in the process have a crisis of faith before determining that the one she has to believe in above all is herself. She's the opposite of her sister in that she's more brazen and aggressive (Which is reflected in her gameplay style).

I don't think it's fair to say they have the same personality apart from them all being women who get swept up in the Soul Edge nonsense for wildly different reasons.

Truthfully me neither, although once in a while I keep hearing about the sheer amount of work the poor devs pour into it and how one of the directors bragged about the amount of overtime the employees were putting into it.

Every time a Rockstar game comes out there's people that mention the 100 hour overtime the employees go through and every time it's a concern for a hot second and then the game comes out and it's like "Overtime who?" I'm interested n RDR 2 because the first game was one of the best of the previous gen - and its final hours are up there in terms of game narratives - I'm just not sure I like dedicating 150 gigs of PS4 to it.

@Fabricant451

SC girls might have a triple A render but their designs are boring, and thier characters are even worse. 3 of them have the exact same personality.

At least Huniepop tries to give the cast a bit of life to them, but its a goddamn indie game at the end of the day.

Which three, out of curiosity?

And I'm not sure I'm willing to give HuniePop a pass just because it's an indie game. Indie games are allowed to take more risks by nature of not having the pressure of a big studio breathing down them. HuniePop doesn't give the characters much in the way of personality beyond the surface and initial presentation because the point of the game isn't getting to know the characters or developing them beyond the superficial. Let's not pretend that either SC or HuniePop have great characters, but SC has at least more visually memorable ones. But if comparisons should be made HuniePop should be compared to some of its contemporaries in the genre and even then it doesn't measure up.
<Snipped quote by Fabricant451>

I WAS talking about the in game reward art of huniepop, its low quality because its concept art. Im just saying that the sprites look better.

My mistake there, then, though I would have to strongly disagree on the latter point here. The reward CG is, in true eroge/VN form, the best the art has to offer.

You're arguing against a postion I don't hold. I never said that Huniepop was better drawn, Im saying that SC girls are bland, take that as you will.

Compared to the HuniePop girls? Nah. Compared to like most fighting games? Sure.

<Snipped quote by Notorious Guy>

I was noting that she picked the ingame 'reward art' which was literally concept art as an example when even the in game sprites are better drawn.

I also used in game reward art from HuniePop so tell me again how I'm being selective? Should I have posted art from the story mode of SC6? Because that's still better than HuniePop's art.
<Snipped quote by Fabricant451>

Your link is broken but you're being selective with your pics.

About as selective as someone using old artwork and trying to make the claim that a bad match three porn game has better actual character art than Soul Calibur. Also how is it selective when I took both from official artists for the respective games?

>Huniepop:

>Soul Calibur

If someone prefers the anime influenced style that's one thing, but HuniePop isn't exactly a highlight of the genre. Every Hunipop girl looks like they fell out of a How 2 Draw Manga artbook.
No no, I've seen you snark in a single sentence plenty of times. Most of us here do. I follow up with a more detailed critique sometimes, mainly when I feel like it. You can't effort-police my snark.

Yes I can.

>Attractive Female Artwork
>Soul Calibur

Pick one.

Yeah gee I wonder which has better artwork.

<Snipped quote by Fabricant451>

You mean like FF13 being a good game? or Smash Bros being 'Lame'?

Ah but that's just Fabricant's opinion. So it's exempt?

Spare me please.

And if someone were to call them hot takes, they'd be within their rights to do so. It's not controversial to think FF13 is a good game considering the reception it got. Me calling your thing a hot take doesn't magically make mine exempt from it, except I'll defend my stances. Hell, I've used hot take to state my opinions on things before so I'm really not sure why this is your hill.

Yes and Smash Bros Ultimate isn't out either, we can comfortably dump on unreleased games and 'hype' as much as much as we see fit. Red Dead 2 has shown me nothing drastically different from the first game in terms mechanics apart from a slightlier cranky horse that has a cock, it's not a 'hot take' to point that out.

Maybe if you made a statement like that initially instead of "Hey guys look at the horse dick, fuckin AAA gaming a m I right?" you would avoid the ire of people thinking your posts are nothing but low effort trolls. Instead you put the line out there, reel in, and then try to act like that was your intent the whole time.

Mine doesn't either? I literally said that Groh is about as tropey as most of the cast in SC and that Red Dead is overrated. I didn't personally attack anyone for fucksake.

You did rather blatantly mock @Hey Im Jordan and his use of 'owns'.

All SC girls are bland as shit. If they were DLC for Huniepop I wouldn't buy them.

Why not? At least then there'd be some kind of decently attractive artwork.
<Snipped quote by Fabricant451>
I mean, bland as she is, she is the best character easily. Her or her sister. No one else in her family, though.

Well considering her family consists of Patrokolos I'm surprised she hasn't pulled the whole "What son?" angle.
