@Dynamo Frokane

I was never a fan of any of these series or their movies, but the portrayals from their original media are legendarily egregious and shameful. My only contact with them was by proxy, typically by interaction between fans or viewing the reviews of critics on their subjects, but there seems to be fairly universal hate for these incarnations.

Well the film reactions were a bit of a mixed bag, Prince of Persia was seen as average, King Of Fighters was a straight to DVD film damn near nobody watched. A mighty heart with Angelina Jolie was critically acclaimed. Last Airbender and Dragon Ball was despised. But these reactions were more about the films themselves than the racial portrayals. I was just making the point that if you have an issue with Idris Elba being the Dark Tower guy you should also have an issue with Scarlet Johannson being the ghost in the shell girl, for sake of consistency.
Guess I'll need to think on it a bit more. I much prefer 'squad' RPs overall. Depending on the size of the groups people may feel left out or get left behind.

Additionally, at least in my experience, a lot of player conflict just devolves into oneupsmanship which I'm not too fond of.

Around 90% of my RPs have been squad based and while it ties a single plot together, it also leaves the RP at the mercy of everyone posting regularly in rotation to keep things moving. And with 6-8 players thats not a risk I want to take.

What I'm about to put in as a plot point is that all of the players are members of the Outcast guild which is operated from the Freelands. Its not so much a 'team' as it is somewhere you all receive jobs from, like the hunters guild in FF12, this means you will all be taking jobs from the same place but also free to do your own thing in-between and along the way :)

I take your point about one-upsmanship, but that can happen in squads too, if I feel its happening I'll do my best to clamp down on it.
@IceHeart@mdk@POOHEAD189 also for the sake of consistency, I'm guessing you all have the same issue with whitewashing characters in movies too?

@IceHeartHi I just watched homecoming and I had plenty of issues with the film, but i think the racial casting raises some interesting points.

First and foremost for the most part, I don't like race-lifting, if you want to have more diverse character then just make new ones, instead of changing old ones. The Michelle/MJ character didn't bother me too much because as you say she was a new character with MJ being a homage/reference.

Flash's casting really annoyed me, not so much because he was small and indian but more because he wasn't even really a bully, he was just a snarky douche who was actually in Peter's friend circle which was just bizzare. He had very little character beyond being sarcastic and cowardly. Now as far as his race, one thing ive learned to accept is that the comics are in a totally different universe, Iron Man had is Origin Story in Afganistan instead of Vietnahm because makes sense with the times. Queens is one of the mos multi ethnic places in America in 2017 so a bit of racial difference makes a lot of sense.

Also lets not pretend the other spiderman movies had Flash faithfully portrayed

Also, I notice you didn't mention it, but some people have an issue with the Vulture's character having a daughter who's half black. Now anyone who's actually read the comics would realise that Vulture has always had a multi-racial family, albeit in the form of a black adopted grandson. With the same motivation to steal to make money for. The comics actually do a damn good job of representing races even before the Marvel Agenda series.

So yeah overall, my point is that movies just exist on a different reality, but I agree that homecoming had some poor casting choices.
@snake153 yes please post a cs in the OOC
@Feyblue you really went all out on this one, approved.
Potentially interested. Like @Feyblue, I'd like to know if characters are going to be working together or if everyone's going to be doing their own thing. I'd rather not follow a bunch of different narratives.

And a few question about the stats: Does Air Mobility/Thrusters only apply to units that can fly? Or is it Air speed vs ground speed?

Also, I'm a bit confused with the light/heavy body and the air mobility/thruster, or at least in relation to each other. From what I can tell, Mobility/Thruster seems to trade off maneuverability with top speed, but lighter units have higher speed and agility overall. Er, its kind of hard to hit at what I'm wondering without an example I suppose:

For instance, if I was a 3 body with a 3 mobility/thruster, how would my speed and mobility compare to a 7 body 7 mob/thruster?

So as far as working together it will be a mix, you will be interacting and definitely doing missions together but there will also be room for a little bit of splitting off and doing your own thing, though the narrative will always bring the player characters together for major plot points, but you wont be a 'squad' I want room for conflict.

all mechs can fly, so air mobility and thrusters is strictly for the air.

a 3 body and a 3 mobility would be a light and agile on the ground also in the air

a 7 body and a 7 thruster would be a bulkier less agile but tougher machine with a high top speed in the air but would suffer in handling in the air

Overview Of The World

There are 3 major land masses in this world, the land in the north is mostly ice caps and snow reigons this is called the Northen Frontier A great industrial power. To the southwest a landmass is shared by two nations the Hylo Empire and its occasional rival the Therux State both of these nations teamed up to form the western coalition and went to war with the Northern Frontier to dislodge its power over the world and were succesful in evening out the balance in power, although all 3 regions suffered heavy losses and are now at uneasy odds with each other.

The third and largest section of land is the Fourtune Region which is a diverse landscape made up of fields, forests, deserts, and even swamps. There is a collection of villages and towns among this reigon but is ultimately a free state with no central government. This is where our story will start.

Stats Explained
The Stats and Performance of your Mecha are decided by a scale system so you decide your own balance between two attributes using a number between 1-9 for Example:

The Light/Heavy Body scale determines the Overall Speed, Reflex, Strength and Armor of your Mecha
with 1 at the light end of the scale and 9 at the heavy end. If you choose say a 7 for this category your Machine will be Heavier, mechanically stronger but also have a slower reaction time and movement speed. You can tune this all the way to the extreme by choosing a 9 or have the exact opposite by having a 1 or hitting the balance by choosing a 5.

@Duoya@Thecrash20@vietmyke@Pathfinder@RumikoOhara I'm loving the amount of interest in this RP! its a nice surprise, let me move you all over to the OOC and I'll answer more questions there.

Seems pretty cool! I think I'll throw my hat in the ring for this one as well.

EDIT: @Dynamo Frokane A few questions before I begin writing my bio. Firstly, will all players be working together as part of some Freelands faction, or will we all be part of different factions? Secondly, are there any established naming schemes for different factions' units? Thirdly, are there any specific focuses usually found in a given faction's designs - I.E. do they favor one type of machine - or does each faction just kind of build all sorts of different mechs?

All your characters will be in the freelands, and I#ve left it intentioally quite bare so you can essentially create your own town/area where your character will be at. But they can be from anywhere and we will decide how the character will be interacting based on the CS that get submitted.

And yes different factions do have different mech prefrences but for the sake of the RP we wont let that effect what mech you want to choose, it can be any style.

Also you will all be using Mk2+ mechs for the sake of this RP
