Do you believe in destiny? It's an uncomfortable idea to come to terms with, I know. To imagine that your lifetime may not entirely be your own. That the gentle hand of Fate, or some other higher power, can push and pull and prod you along a path you did not choose for yourself. To many, that is what the Strings represent: the grey-area in free-will.

We never used to put much stock in them. Men and women wasted their lives chasing them to the end, only to find disappointment at the end of the rainbow. There is no greater sorrow than having one's soul tied to someone who is already bound in holy matrimony, except for not having one in the first place.

As in many things, technology has opened new doors for those seeking their destiny. For the first time in recorded history, there is a greater than fifty percent chance of reaching the other end of a String in a human lifetime. Whether the destined bond is platonic –– based in friendship, family, lust, or rivalry –– or the romantic red of your true soulmate, it has never been easier to find The One.

Various organisations have cropped up in recent years to streamline the search. Some are funded, others are not, but either way the end result is narrowing down the possible location of one's soulmate to a narrow geographical area.

Like Boston.

The Threads of Fate...
▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃....
Even in the earliest written records from the four corners of the world, there are references to the Strings. They may not always be called the same thing, with different names in different languages, but in description they are identical.

Invisible to all but those they tie together, the Strings come in a myriad of different colours, each representing separate shades of human relationships. Green for friendships, the sort that last forever, best mates. Purple for lust, sexual attraction and compatibility 'without any strings attached'. Orange, for never-ending rivalries, friendly or otherwise. The only way to see someone else's strings is through physical contact, though secretive new technologies allow companies to offer assistance (often for a price) in tracing them to a location.

And then there's the special case of red. With few exceptions, a person only ever has one red string tied around their fingers and leading off into the distance. Red is for romance, for the one person in the world destiny has picked out as the perfect life-partner. A soulmate. While finding the end of the other strings is still a happy coincidence, few ever go out of their way to search for them as they do the end of their red one.

Small inklings of emotion can filter down through the connection. Supposedly. How much of that is just wishful thinking is up in the air. Still, there is precedent to believe that based on the flip-side of the coin. Threads can be unwound, unpicked, or cut off, but every little action taken to remove them hurts –– like losing a limb –– for both sides. Even the skeptics who object to chasing dreams tend to leave them be.

This roleplay is going to be based around the idea of soulmates. Taking place in Boston, it will be heavily ‘ship-centric’, moreso than most slice-of-life RPs. Though there will obviously be romantic soulmates via a red thread, there will also be other types of Strings, ranging from friendship, to lifelong rival, and even lust-based. Now, just as a forewarning, every roleplayer who participates will be required to play two (2) characters. One will have a soulmate randomized by the GMs, and one can be selected via discussing between yourselves!

Feel free to change the colours of the application (found in the Character Tab), but try not to change up the formatting too much. Remove all instructions before submission.

The RP is going to be taking place in the modern day, and we’ll be using real-life face claims exclusively. If you have any questions that weren’t answered directly here, please mention the GMs (@Hey Im Jordan & @McHaggis) and ask away, we’ll answer as soon as possible.
@SleepingSilenceyeah they're not going to. i guess you missed beauty and the best, cinderella, and the jungle book, but that's okay.

You should feel angry.

You're joking right?

Can't wait! If this is anywhere near as good as the other live action remakes it should be a lot of fun.
what the fuck is this

a cool thing
Relatively interested, but not fully committed yet. I'd have to think if I could be creative enough to make TWO characters right off the bat.

pls
@Fabricant451it is a good day when fab comes
What a cute idea!

Thank you. =)

Interested because...

Happy to have you! =D
