Bio

Greetings,

I am Jb; Briton by birth, roleplayer by my own hand, and lover of literature. I am also an amateur historian, a receiver of a Bachelors degree in Ancient and Medieval History - quite a useless degree, actually - and would like to think that I'm a fair, honest and open guy.

As far as RP'ing goes, I'm pretty open to most things really, all you need to do is ask! :)

So, if you've ever any questions for me, wish to speak about RP's involving myself or run by myself, or simply feel like a chat, don't be afraid to get in touch.

@Penny They all look pretty good, truth be told.

<Snipped quote>
How about a bit of a compromise in between, i.e. someone can pick the approximation of their characters origins but you roll some of the very specific bits.

Indeed, I did think something like that may be the way to go about it.

If there is a profession that fits a character idea - Wizards Apprentice or Squire, for example - then they'll be used as a base.
Indeed, and don't sweat it, we're all busy - I've been working nights for example. I shall get a post up later today however. If you want to post, @Drunken Conquistador, then you can do so as well.
@Dogematix While I think that may make it a little lop-sided, that is sage advice from the pug in a hat.

Just a quick addendum to my earlier point on characters, and I'll try not to make it too long...

The characters - to begin with - are about the basic, the low and the mundane. Think not in terms of Warhammer Fantasy Battles, for there is no such glory here, not yet; there'll be no repelling of Orc or Chaos invasions, no saving of worlds, this entire thing is going to be a much grimmer and much more gritty place, a place where the weak and the 'normal' can rise to better heights.

To this end, please think accordingly when thinking of a character.

You may think 'but Jb, how is being a charcoal burner or a travelling bard with no combat experience any fun to write as?' To which I would counter, 'how is writing from humble beginnings to much greater potential not any fun? Surely it is more fun to feel some sense of achievement after slaying a small band of Beastmen over single-handidly murdering an entire Chaos cult by yourself? How is being human and developing as such a bad thing?'

I'm actually pondering about whether to doll out professions by rolling for them a la the TT game - would anyone be adverse to that? (Yes, I know people have their particular favourites, so that's why I'm saying maybe.)
@Dogematix An Errant Knight is actually fine, they're young and foolish I.E. All the gear and no idea, but a squire or some such from a Templar order could be just as good.

@Andreyich Then sounds good.

@Penny If by low-level you mean 'pretty much just starting out/fresh out of magic college', then that's perfectly fine. They'll get more practise in as we go, possibly pick up a few tomes and the like as well. Religious followers are a little different, as they aren't 'magic' as such, but the same applies in keeping powers on the down low for the start.

@POOHEAD189 As long as he's not an actual Border 'Prince', then that's all gravy.

As I said, I shall take a wee look in my books and get back to everyone, very probably tomorrow. I'll get the OOC up as well, so if anyone wishes to join between now and then...get on that.

Looking good so far though, folks, I'm liking the ideas.
@Andreyich Sounds like his former profession was as a warrior, is that correct?

@Eisenhorn Sounds sound!
@Andreyich That would really defeat the point of getting better loot through hard work, so I'd allow standard equipment - an axe, sword etc but only steel ones. There'll be plenty of opportunities to get better gear as we go though.

@Dogematix That's actually not a bad idea, although wouldn't he be shunned for taking up with 'lessers' as an adventurer?

@Eisenhorn Eeeeh...if he's a crack shot off the mark then I'd say no, but I suppose a hunter or some such would make sense.

I'll be taking another look at some things, so I'll have more to say once I have consulted my tomes.

@Ezekiel You are more than welcom, Ezekiel. Thank you for your interest!

I'm on a phone atm, so I'm not going to [@] everyone, but - assuming people read this - I thought I'd just expound on the concept of this being a form of 'persistent world' RP influenced by more traditional TT RPGs.

At this juncture I just wish to speak about characters, so that once the RP actually gets going there will be fewer queries.

So, like any TT RPG, I'm planning on from the bottom and toward the top (although reaching it may be harder than first expected), everyone starting with 'basic' characters I.E. below mid-tier but above useless. For example, I'd accept a militiaman or caravan guard with limited military experience, but not some hardbitten army veteran or mercenary sellsword; the point of this is purely for developement, the same going for magic users.

I intend to put everyone through a narrative that will possibly see them become these things, but over time.

Let me be straight, you don't need to be...say a rat-catcher or a rag-collector, a farmer or a peasant - in my experience people actively dislike such 'base' avatars - although I'd not be adverse to that.

In short; everyone in this RP will be fresh-faced at the beginning, having chosen a life of adventuring for their own reason(s), though not necessarily naive or ignorant (they will have had a former occupation after all (or not, that's up to you)) but by the end of it will be very different/changed.

In this vein, I'd like everyone to keep an eye on their character sheets and edit them accordingly I.E. Your character loses an eye, put it down. They gain a new proficiency in magic, mark it. They join a secret society and don't tell anyone...yea.

Aaaaaany questions?
@POOHEAD189 I did, and I can only apologise to zhe about my ignorance - please forgive me.
@Rithy Yet he could plausibly be better at stealth than any of you mere mortals.

@Eisenhorn Very likely, yes.
