Personality:
Having grown up in the relatively austere highlands, has given him an appreciation for the leisurely things in life. He enjoys hanging out, having drinks, and enjoying himself. Perhaps he overindulges to being a slacker, however he's still diligent about his training and whatever else he deems important to put effort into.

Biography: Growing up in the Highlands he took to both the martial and hunting culture of his people. He grew up partaking in hunts using the bow, becoming competent in its usage. However with age he came to favor the usage of the spear and with it, the type of quarry one hunts using a spear. And afterwards some more challenging quarry.

Ghent’s love of the spear would extend to being his weapon of choice. A stark contrast to the stereotype of Highlanders and their love of big, beefy, weapons. It would cause some friction and weird stares. As after all, the tradition had been started in honor of the brave hunter who used such weapons. And Ghent with his spear was going backwards to a simpler and older weapon.

However it only caused him to double down and commit to becoming skilled in it. When he came of age, he left the highlands to wander. The highlands, although being his home, had a certain austerity to him and he craved something more vibrant. It would be Faron that would draw him to relocate there. Its vibrant forests, and those festivals made it feel like home to him.

His enlistment into the Valorbrands would come with the desire to wander again. He had heard news of some bad stuff happening out in the boonies. If it was really true, he would relish in doing some monster hunting much like his people had done so before in their homeland. It might not be the fabled Yeti hunt, but it could be interesting. At the very least it came with a paycheck right?

Don't know if it really counts that’s what I’m going for in terms of play style.

Also, is there anything else you'd want from my guy's backstory or just more detail in general? I found the highlanders to be somewhat vaguely defined, but not in a way that inviting to like to fill all the details. And I was hesitant about making up too much stuff in case it deviates from what you're thinking of.

Well good to know the style isn't exclusive to them.

Anyway, while I'm aware that learning new styles is just meet the stat requirements, I also figured you want some explanation within the fiction as how it was acquired. So, I figured the best way would be to wait for like more suitable styles to pop along with an opportunity to go, "Hey, my character is seeking instruction in it."

I'm also rather curious about the math works with these stats. One thing that would be nice is having an explanation for each level on a stat. I can infer some ideas of competency per level a bit. But it would be better for it to be explicitly explained. Like saying 1 means average or unskilled and like 4 being skilled or something like that.

Going back to styles, I'm actually kind of curious to just how impaired a character would be without a style. Although for the sake of testing your material, I'll pick something. Still, I want to see how a character fares with only rolls and the free techs.

Also, I wonder what everyone else is planning on making. Would it be alright if characters might know each other beforehand?

My apologies, I didn't mean to imply he had some fame for his skill with the weapon. Rather that he acquired enough skill gain some begrudging respect as he continued his training.

Regarding combat styles I skipped over it for like the following reasons: My own experience with tabletop rpgs has me wanting to have a slightly more balanced spread, over committing into a single stat for qualifying for a style. Because of that I felt that Hylian knight style wasn't worth it as a dedicated spear user as there's really one strider stance move, I'd use. Now sure there's Zoran Fencing, but I got the impression it would be an exotic style for a non-zora character and honestly, I had no idea how to justify the character learning it. I figured grabbing those loose techs would serve me well until there's a situation to learn something better.

Cool. I got two character concepts in mind. One being a Hylian spear-user of either vanilla or hylander heritage. The other I want to run by you first to see if it jives with like your system and like tone. He's a bird of prey Rito martial artist whose style involves extensive use of his legs to make use his talons.

Video related is basically the inspiration of what I was thinking. Note the guy whose fingers are curled into claws and is tearing up the scenery.

"You said something?" Jen would say as his head stuck out curiously through a door. "Oh man, I really got split from you guys. His voice getting muffled as the door closed and he scurried to meet the group. Another door would open but from a different floor. He would grunt annoyedly and close the door heading back.

Jen was completely unfazed by Tayla's attempted barb. His annoyance was currently focused on this labyrinthian jail and the vexing effects of the divergence it had in getting him lost, among other woes that have plagued him since the group's arrival to this town. Eventually he thought he saw Týfurkh or perhaps one of the biggest guys that worked in the prison that matched his stature. Hey there big guy! Finally glad to get to you guys. I hate walking through this place, and I can't to leave." He said smiling and attempted to give an almost pitifully weak back pat. Which wasn't him trying to be funny, but more of a safety precaution after getting banned from various pubs after multiple door destruction incidents.
