Stella Herbalem & Mr. Johnson @Kirah
Just before Dinner

After Stella finished unpacking, she realized she had some time before dinner to explore the grounds a bit. She pulled out the map of Northwood and smiled to herself. She saw that there were greenhouses, and noticed on the class schedule that they were where the Horticulture club met. It had been some time since she had been just among plants and listened to them, so she put on her jacket and headed outside.

She went towards the greenhouse, letting her powers flow a bit, wondering what the plants were feeling. However, they all felt the same thing. This strong urge to make people leave. “Leave. Leave. Leave. Leave.” The word echoed in her head until she clapped her hands over her ears. “STOP!”

A weathered hand touched Stella’s shoulder gently. “Miss, are you okay?” The voice is deep, and calming.

Stella looked up and blinked. “Oh uh, sorry, I just, had a lot on my mind and was trying to make it stop,” she said. She shut out her power, not wanting to hear the voices at the moment. “I’m sorry if I worried you. I have a tendency to just keep my head in the clouds, as mama says.”

“I’m Mr. Johnson, what’s your name Miss?” He asked nodding his head.

“Stella Herbalem… oh! You’re the Horticulture club adviser! Its nice to meet you!” Stella said, perking up after this. She had read through her schedule earlier, and had noticed his name.

“Ah Miss Herbalem. I remember your name on the roster. Want to check out the houses then?”

“Would a honey bee love to pollinate a lily?! That is why I came out here. I was hoping to sneak a look around before club met Tuesday… seems like a long time,” she said and went to follow Mr. Johnson to the greenhouses. She kept her powers under wraps for the moment. She knew better than to tell people she didn’t know well about her powers. Also, she was still a bit freaked out about what the plants were feeling. It was normal for plants to feel all sorts of things, but for all of them to feel the same thing at the same time? And such a feeling as making everyone want to leave? Something was wrong at Northwood. However, for the time, Stella shoved it out of her head.

Mr. Johnson chuckled a bit as he entered the flower greenhouse. “This is the second greenhouse.” He explained. “Want to see something special?” He asked with a wink.

“I’d love to! I mean, if that’s alright with you,” Stella said, trying to calm down. However, she was super excited about plants. Maybe the ones in the greenhouse would be different. Maybe they’d be happier? She continued to follow Mr. Johnson, interested in what the something special was.

“Excellent.” Mr. Johnson led Stella down one of the isles and pulled a small rose plant forward. “This is a special breed I’ve been working on for the last couple years.” Mr. Johnson leaned forward to bring his face close to the rose. “How are you doing today Katie?” Mr. Johnson gently brushed one of the leaves, and seemed to be nodding to the rose. “This is Stella, I have a feeling the two of you will get along just wonderfully.” Mr. Johnson looked to Stella. “She’d like to shake hands.”

Stella smiled, reaching out gently and brushed the same leave as Mr. Johnson. “Hello Katie, it is lovely to meet you. You’re quite beautiful,” she said to the plant and then looked at Mr. Johnson. “She’s lovely!” Stella paused for a moment, and turned her empathy back on, wondering what Katie was feeling. A pleasant warmth spread into Stella’s finger, along with the small push to leave. Stella smiled. Perhaps it was not all bad here. Katie was well cared for. “I can tell she gets a lot of love,” she said, turning back to Mr. Johnson.

“None of them have been too happy since the end of last semester.” Mr. Johnson shook his head sadly.

Stella blinked. Could it be… She then shook her head. “Was it… because… I mean I’ve heard about what happened… plants have more empathy than most people understand,” she said, removing her hand gently from Katie. She wouldn’t use her powers on this one… no… She was Mr. Johnson’s.

“Yes.” Mr. Johnson nodded. “Something’s wrong and they know it.” He gestured around the room. “You can sense it, but now isn’t the time and place to talk about it. I’ll talk to you tomorrow about it all during your homeroom.”

Stella went wide eyed and nodded. “Alright Mr. Johnson. But you are right… They don’t want anyone else to stay here… except Katie,” she said softly.

“Katie sees hope. The others only feel the darkness. Just know you’re not alone Miss Herbalem.” Mr. Johnson reached over to another plant and gently placed his hand the plant, and Stella could see it stretch and visible grow under the gentle touch of Mr. Johnson.

Stella nodded. “Thank you. I look forward to talking to you more tomorrow Mr. Johnson,” she said. She knew it was the time not to talk about this, as he said. But she was surprised. She had never met anyone else that had powers like hers. She then smiled to herself. He could easily do the same to Katie, but he was letting her grow on her own. What a kind man.

“Have a good evening Miss Herbalem. I look forward to our chat as well.” He held out his hand for Stella to shake. She happily shook his hand and nodded.

“You too Mr. Johnson,” she said, before going to head to the dining hall.
Samantha Wellington & Natali Valkyrie @Maelvona

Samantha Wellington was setting up for the first music class in the theater. There was the choir part and the music part. Her husband had volunteered to help, since it was a Sunday, but she had said no. She was finished with first day stuff, but had made it clear that if anyone had wanted to talk to her before classes started for the year, she would be on campus till nine pm that Sunday.

Natali walked into the auditorium, wearing an red hat and an light wool coat. She had on fuzzy boots, looking comfy, and had a red scarf as well, she seemed to like to wear clothing usually meant for the cold. "Mrs. Wellington," she spoke, clearing her throat before continuing. "How are you today?"

Samantha looked up and smiled as Natali spoke up. "Hello Natali. I am doing well. How are you? How can I help you?" She asked, turning her attention to her student and away from setting up the chairs. She ran through her mind. Natali Valkyrie. Junior. She was in her theater class. She was her assigned counselor, and she was always there to help.

"Ah, I just wished to know what we were going to be working on for Drama Class..." She looked around at the half-assembled orchestra. "Need any help?" She brisked her hands and kept them at her sides. She seemed quiet for a while, until looking back up at the teacher with an certain sort of eagerness that comes from nervousness.

"I'm not sure yet. I was hoping to get the classes input on Tuesday when we met. We do need to figure out how many of you are actually acting, and not just on stage crew. However, I was thinking maybe some Shakespeare first. We have a couple of good leading men and women in class,"
Samantha answered. She looked at Natali and paused. "Is everything alright? I mean I appreciate the offer for help, and will take you up on it, but it seems you came here for another reason," she added, gesturing to the pile of chairs that still needed unfolding.

She nodded quickly, and started to get to work with the chairs.. "I-Well, I think I may have been a little too overeager, with reacting to my classmates and interacting.. I sort of.. I kind of flubbed up." She sighed and tried not to look the young teacher in the eyes.

Samantha looked at Natali. The girl was a bit brash at times, and had been reminded a few times by Samantha to be discreet about her powers. She walked over and patted Natali on the shoulder. "I understand to being overeager, but you have to remember, we do ask that you keep your powers secret here. You are a very special girl, Natali, and I don't want to see anything happening to you. Which student did you flub up with? Someone you know?" She asked.

She hugged Samantha, who assumed that Natali wanted to feel some type of warmth. But she didn't get too clingy, and let go quickly as she folded her arms behind her back. "His name's.. Jamie. I forgot his last name. He sounds like an Irishman, and he called me a Soviet!" She bit her lip, "I-I over-reacted and.. I think we may have had a falling out. Now people look at me funny, and not as many sit by me at lunch.. I just... I had a reason."

"Aww sweetie, it's just the first day. I'm sure it will die down soon. However, I'll go talk to Jamie's counselor and see if we can get this figured out. Also, I'm pretty sure he's a year above you, so your own classmates will still want to talk to you. I know you'll bounce back from this, like you always do. You don't call yourself Valkyrie for nothing," Samantha said with a warm smile. She did make a mental note to talk to Miss Standiford. Jamie was not a personal student of Samantha's, since he was in none of her classes, but Sam would try to get this fixed. Natali was not the first student to flub up for sure, and she wouldn't be the last. However, there were rules.

"I know, I know.." She seemed to light up a little at the teacher's words. "But, Mrs. Wellington, I felt something. I did! I wouldn't lie about that, you know. I was sure in my mind that.. He.. He had powers like me. I don't know why I didn't ask you, I didn't cross my mind." She sniffled, wiping her eyes. "I'm sorry."

"It is alright. I know you wouldn't lie, however, if he says he doesn't have any powers or abilities, then he might not,"
Samantha said. Due to how the school worked, she did have to lie here. She felt terrible about it, but, again, there were rules. "You don't have to be sorry to me. As I said, I'll see about getting this fixed. Misunderstandings do happen."

Natali smirked and quickly hugged the Teacher again, kissing her cheek as a sign of affection as she clapped her hands quickly thereafter. "Thank you, Misses Wellington!" She started immediately unfolding all the chairs thereafter, and setting them up. "Sorry I didn't sign up for Choir this year, I wanted to be a Ballerina..." She said longingly, cheekily smiling.

"You're welcome. I understand. I wish I could still dance, but you know that this old lady can't keep up with you,"
she said with a grin. Once they finished setting up the chairs, she thanked Natali for her help. "Looks like I'll see you Tuesday, unless you need anything tomorrow."

She thought for a moment, seeming to nibble her cheek, before blinking. "Oh! Yeah, do you think it would be okay if I ate lunch in here with you, by your office?" She scratched the back of her leg with one foot nervously. "I'll get a form, or a pass, or something if I need it."

Samantha paused in thought for a moment. "If it really is that bad even after I talk to Miss Standiford, I can see about getting you a pass to have lunch with me. However I will have to run it by the Headmistress." And with that, Natali thanked the teacher, and hoped to see her soon again as she walked out of the door to her dorm.

Samantha let out a long sigh as Natali left, and gathered up her bag and went to find Miss Standiford.

Name: Samantha Wellington (Formerly Weinbaum)

Age: 34

Teaching Spot: Music and Theater

Ability / Power / Creature: She has what she calls "The Power to Calm the Titan." She can play or use and instrument, like her voice, to calm people or animals down, no matter how they are feeling. She mostly uses her singing, but will use whatever she can. She has been able to do this since she was a little girl. She can now even use whistling if needed. It doesn't matter which song is being played, as long as she has the intent to calm down. Otherwise, her normal singing/ playing of instruments cause no effect.

Biography:
Samantha was born in New York, to immigrant parents. Her mother was from England, and her father from German. Both had fled to America during the early years of the war, and her father barely spoke English. However, they were married within five months of meeting each other, and shortly after had Samantha.

Due to her mixed heritage, Samantha spoke three languages in her house, English, German and Hebrew. She started dancing when she was young, and also singing. As she grew older, she stared in on learning the piano from her mother, and violin from her father. She also devoutly went to temple, Sunday School and Hebrew school up until she was thirteen.

By this point, Samantha was well aware of her powers, and was trying her best to hide them, only pulling them out if her parents started fighting. Then one day she got a letter. She had been accepted to the prestigious Northwood Acadamy. Her parents worried about sending their oldest child away, since they did have two others to worry about. Also, it wasn't easy for two working immigrants to find the funds to send their child to Northwood. However, strings were pulled and Samantha went to Northwood for all four years and then graduated.

After that, she went to Juillard for college, working on her dancing, singing and music. She injured herself during her last year, making dancing professionally a career she could no longer pursue. She changed gears after that, and went for her teaching certificate. It was there she met her husband, and got married to him three years later.

After she finished her teaching certificate, the Headmistress of Northwood got in contact with her. Samantha's teacher had retired, and would Samantha like the job of teaching Theater and Music. Samantha agreed, since dancing and teaching it was out of the question, and she had some experience with acting. She was use to giving and taking direction for sure. She and her husband packed up and moved to Colorado, and Samantha has been teaching at Northwood for the past few years. She and her husband live in Belleville, as opposed to her living on campus with the rest of the teachers.

Personality: Samantha is a very open person. She takes many of the music students under her wing happily, and wishes to help them improve. She tries not to pick favorites, but she has a few, mostly in the choir section. However, she does love some of the ones band as well. She does try not to make her favorites obvious.

She is also relatively secretive at times. She is one of the people that is aware of the students and their powers, but keeps it under wrap. She does also keep trying to dance, even if it isn't recommended.

Most of her students know where to find her and that she is always open to them, and if they want to practice.
So, I will be making the Theater and Music teacher sometime before Monday.

Wooo.
Katalina & Ash @Kirah

After having left Ben after having spent some time with him and promising to meet up at dinner, a very happy Katalina was heading off to unpack. So, maybe Ash was finally there. If so, the two could talk. Or maybe Ash was off necking with Jamie. Wouldn’t surprise Katalina, since the two had been making goo-goo eyes at each other since Freshman year. She opened the door and noticed Ash was there. She put on her best smile and looked over at the other girl. “So, we’ll be rooming this year it seems,” she said brightly.

“Yeah it would seem so.” Ash was sitting on the bed to the left, shoes off, and kicked under the bed. “I asked Ms. Reese and she said there was no changing, but you get to enjoy morning swim practice without me again.”

Katalina frowned already. She knew Ash disliked her, but to already go to a teacher about changing rooms. She sighed to herself and went over to the bed on the right, and picked up her suitcase and started unpacking. “I see. I guess there are no free rooms this year, which isn’t that much of a surprise. I saw a lot of new freshman at the ceremony,” she said, ignoring the jab about swimming practice.

“Seems like there’s always more of them every year.” Ash’s voice sounded bored.

Katalina continued to unpack, deciding to ignore the tone that Ash was taking. “Well it means there are new students we can help! Since we’ve been here three years, people will look up to us,” she said, working on hanging up her clothing. “And anyways, it will be nice to keep our minds off… well… other things.”

“Yeah.” Ash shifted and then pulled her own bag from the end of the bed, and started putting away her clothes in her dress. “Do-” Ash cut herself off and shoved some shirts into a drawer.

“What were you going to say, Ash?” She asked, not turning to look at her roommate as she started putting swimsuits away.

Ash sighed, “I was just wondering, if you thought, they’d catch...” Ash trailed off, “You know.”

Katalina nodded. “At this rate, it’s filed under cold cases I’m sure. It’s been months… and… nothing. I miss her. We all do…” She thought back to Natalie. She had been tutored by her for a bit in Math by her… and Natalie was sure Kata was going to be the next Student Body President and had been giving her tips before… She paused, realizing she was clutching her hands, hard, almost drawing blood. She looked over at Ash and sighed. “Y’know… maybe we should try getting along… we’re all going to need each other, more this year than last.”

Ash doesn’t respond at first, and the sound of her shoving clothes into her drawer stops. “Katalina, I don’t want you to think,” Katalina noticed that Ash was very neutral looking at this point, “That I hate you, you’re just competition.”

Katalina frowned. “I never think of you as that way, but if that’s what you want, then fine, I’m competition,” she said simply and went back to unpacking. She could never quite understand why Ash thought of her that way. They both did swim, yes, but Ash was a long distance swimmer, and Kata was more of a sprinter swimmer. They had only been pitted against each other when Ms. Reese made them compete. Katalina had tried, but Ash was very abrasive, and unfortunately this had rubbed off a bit on her best friend, Jamie.

“Whatever. I’m going to dinner.” Ash grabbed a worn paperback from her bed and shoved it unceremoniously into her back pocket, then left.

Katalina sighed and rolled her eyes. She soon finished unpacking as well and went to head to dinner as well.
