"It's the oldest trick in the book," Kanna said, replying to Kanbaru's question. "All I did was hack into your 'camera'," she pointed to her own eyes. "That's the same system the government uses to issue public messages and that we use during class. Since it's a public network, anyone can get on it and do whatever they want. It's just that people don't care about AR games anymore."

"We are a Society to research backward tech," the lavender haired girl replied to the question about how they got the permission to form that club. "It's just like dad used to play with old PC and mod PS games even when the era of console games had died years ago. Essentially, I guess that you can say that we are a bunch of geeky nerds who like to play with old stuff. The fact that we do extra-extracurricular activities is a something that we like to keep to ourselves."

"I guess you are right. Eins sent a message saying that we should pick between an offensive mission or a defensive one today," Kanna said after being questioned about Deep Ground. "We can either protect the territory we conquered or fight to undermine the Harley resources. You can choose our destination. But, if you don't mind, I'll be going with you. Everyone else is already at their own positions and I'm no good with someone to support."

The club's president verified if there was anyone around the corridor before locking the door and lowering the curtain, shutting the single window that illuminated the room. "We can log in from here after you've made your choice," Kanna said, taking her seat once more after producing a pair of duvets and pillows from a locker, taking one pair for herself and handing the other to Kanbaru.

Remembering past RP shames and failures, uh? I guess that's a club (almost) anyone here is a member.

So, I've been working on a bit of a ruleset/fight guidelines for a War RP of my own, any advice/comments?

Rules of Thumb

1. The more focused power beats the more general power. If Adam has "increased physical stats" and Eve has "increased speed", in a running contest, Eve wins. The more focused the ability, the greater the gap, for example, A:"increased physical stats" and E:"increased physical stats except defense" means the second will be faster, but not as much as if it was only E:"increased speed".

2. The power with more restrictions on its use or costs beats the less restricted/costly power. If Adam and Eve have "increased physical stats" but Eve's version can only be activated upon reaching 50% health or less, Eve's version will be more powerful. The more restricted the ability, the greater the gap. For example, an ability that deals 10% of your body's health per second of using it will increase your stats by more than an ability that deals 1% of your body's health per second of using it.

3. The more creative power use beats a power that is strictly stronger than it. If Adam has "Armor Suit" and Eve outmaneuvers him and strikes at a weakpoint in say the armpit, that wasn't specifically mentioned by Adam's description of the suit but makes sense, go ahead and be a sport and take some damage Adam. We want to make fights fun, and so, whenever you're not sure whether a creative attack would really make enough of a difference to overcome a stronger power, lean in the interest of the creative attack/defense/use of a power.

Power Tiers

Tier 1-
These are powers that give you personal benefits or specific tricks in your arsenel, but don't dominate the battlefield. Increased physical strength, a blade with supernatural cutting ability, the ability to cast a self-flight spell, resistance to thermal change. These abilities are typically very narrow (I cast laser blast), or have a personal effect (I'm stronger).

You get 4 Tier 1 powers, that provides your character with a small array of tricks to use in a duel with another hero and personalizes you and your gear.

Tier 2-
These are powers that are often incredibly flexible and/or have battlefield dominating effects. A really nice rocket launcher with a variety of special missiles is Tier 1. The ability to launch your own artillery barrages worth of these missiles, is Tier 2. Most general manipulation powers, such as the manipulation of an element, fall under this category unless they have a low power level or have harsh restrictions. For example, flat out telekinesis is a Tier 2 power, but if you can only use telekinesis on one particular sword attuned to you, or with a range limit of 2-3 meters, it is a Tier 1 power.

You should have 1 Tier 2 power (unless you have a Tier 3 instead), that defines why your character is a threat on the battlefield at large that has a real potential of single-handedly changing the tide of a battle between armies.

Tier 3-
These are powers that IGNORE how strong the opposition is, unless it's another tier 3. If your sword cuts through ANYTHING because it sends each individual atom or molecule it's edge touches to a different moment in time, 99% of targets will have nothing to stop that. If you can summon portals, it doesn't matter how strong the incoming attack is if you can create a portal in front of you and send it back at whoever attacked you.

In general, if you want a Tier 3 power, it should be extremely focused and/or have high drawbacks, and it will then take the place of your Tier 2 power. I recommend asking about any power you think might be a Tier 3.

Anyway, I'll post for Miyu and Alexi tomorrow morning now that I've gotten that off my chest.

I don't think that the politics of the more restrictions and drawbacks = the stronger the power is a good one. This would generate a RP full of Ultraman-clones, if a finishing move that you have piled as many drawbacks as to only being able to use when knocking on death's door (or the "episode's end") can beat anyone that has a generally high defense.

For example, a series like Dragon Ball works on a good logic for powers. The more incomplete they are (like Vegeta's and Future Trunk's Ultra Super Saiyan form), the more useless it becomes against an opponent that has a balanced set of powers (like Cell) even if they should be able to beat him.

What I mean pretty much is that Drawbacks = Greater power as a general rule (there can always be exceptions, though) is pretty much a narrative fallacy.

PS:

Regulating power tiers can work, but usually will lead to a blander RP than something more "DIY" power level-wise. Something video game-y, I say. Not that I'm saying it's a bad thing, this is pretty much a matter of preference.

RPG-wise, I was born a D&D 3rd edition player. I'm used to titanic differences in power between characters that should be of "the same level", but some people aren't.

Amazing, the break throughs in science and health have accomplished through the years. A child of such, Elizabeth was born a prodigy among her peers. Tired of trivial life, Elizabeth moved on into the gaming world where she too rose quickly in skill and among followers. Granting victory of numerous competitions and an ever-rising fan base. Late into her career, she joined to fight against the new threat in the Nexus. Proving enough skill to keep with the best of them.

Knack for mechanical engineering. Able to handle and create electricity to aid in tasks.

[WEAPONS]

Ragnarok - An older model war machine whose systems have been streamlined and filled out with extra protection by none other than the pilot herself. This monstrosity of a machine fires mortar shells via its two arm machine guns, fabricating ammo as needed directly into the clips. Shots fired hit with pinpoint accuracy thanks to a firing computer that suggests and displays targets, which Elizabeth herself can shoot herself or, with on par accuracy, allow the computer to take over. To support the main cannons, the mech also boast four rail cannons strapped to its back. Though with a 1.5 second charge delay, Ragnarok can accurately hit and blow up a mile-wide city on the moon when firing from earth. However, the rail cannons can only fired with the use of the targeting computer. Should the mech hit a critical condition, its core overloads and threatens to blow up the surrounding area with the force of a couple of atomic bombs. During activation, the pilot is ejected and given a hardened plasma shield that protects against the explosion, timing out afterwards. This can be canceled remotely by her suit after ejection.

[EQUIPMENT]

Apart from Ragnarok, Elizabeth sports a small plasma cutter and a few plasma charges for if and when she finds herself without her mech.

I have to day that I wasn't expecting anyone else to develop interest in this RP at the point we are. Some new blood probably will be a good thing.

Either way, about your character. Bio wise she's ok. Someone else interested in the White King is a novelty, though considering how much people seem to dislike Chiyo.

However, I have to say that her second ability is too powerful the way it's written now. Basically, it implies a passive damage reduction aura that can end up making a fight against her impossible. It would be far better if you removed the stacking debuff and gave an idea of the area of effect of that ability.

Also, setting a cooldown time for the 3rd one would be good as well, since it seems to have limitless uses the way it's written now.
