Beginning the Tabletop Experience

I am new to tabletop gaming, and I can't very well go over to my friend's house so he can teach me. So I need someone to guide me to a good place to start. Is there somewhere here that would be good, or is there somewhere else I can look? I really love the idea of D&D and I would love to start somewhere. Well, somewhere gentle hopefully. I have lots of questions!

Rulebooks tend to have a tutorial that you can follow to make a character of your own. It really just depends on what system and/or edition you'd like to play, but since you're a beginner to tabletop, I'd suggest sticking with D&D or possibly even Pathfinder. I know D&D 5e is pretty huge on the guild, for example.

Honami crossed her arms. "Besides, who is this Black King anyway? Sure, he and his cronies are trying to take over Alma, but he sounds like a chump to me. He can't be all that powerful."

Eaudenil blinked in confusion whilst the red-haired girl rambled of words that she, in German and English, had simply never heard before. Otaku? Oneironautics? Though Eaudenil had tried to make sense of what Rael spoke, it only made her more confused, and so she nodded, pretending she understood what the spearwoman had said.

"History books?" Eaudenil questioned. She had been so caught up with surviving from day-to-day that it hadn't occurred to her that they could be making history. The Sonnefelds had already made history once following a failed bank robbery that claimed her father's life, and now Eaudenil had been stuck in a video game that could claim her life for real. Surely their family name had to be cursed at this point.

"Well, I suppose we are making history right now." Eaudenil continued, trying to hide the tears she clearly wanted to cry. She couldn't show weakness in front of her newfound companions; not now, not ever.

If only Vati was here; he'd tell me everything will be alright in the end.

Video Games: The General Discussion & Community Thread

The last time I played WoW seriously I wound up speedrunning multiple characters to near max level. Haven't really touched it outside private servers since the whole China debacle, though.

If I have time and get my shit together throughout the remainder of this week and weekend, then sure. Though it depends on other factors, like post speed and length, too. The last TWD RP I joined I genuinely couldn't keep up with as there had been 20+ IC posts in 2-3 days from the time the IC dropped.

Also I should probably ask how grounded in reality you intend this roleplay to be, since I'm not really a fan of decked out military dudes and le edgy samurai sword kids. More power to those who go that route, but it's just different strokes for different people. Running around with just a hammer, 2 random bullets and a can of tuna to your name always appealed more to me than being a bad ass mowing down zombies left and right, to be honest.
