Current I'm going to have to take a break for awhile. One of my dogs just passed; we went to bed together like we always do and when I woke up she was gone. I feel awful right now.

Had a fun birthday. Had some alligator tail for dinner, overall was pretty good for a place I hadn't been to before. Will start getting back into the groove of things soon.

Hi. If you've wound up here, you're probably wondering who I am.

You can call me Kuro, although some of you might better recognize me by one of the several other names that I have used in the past throughout the 11-ish years that I have spent on this forum. I'm a middle-twenties retail manager that is still trying to relive the glory days of their roleplay career while balancing a full-time job with an unsatiable need for overtime.

I tend to be open to most ideas when it comes to roleplay itself, be it whatever genre, group size, system, etc. That being said, I often gravitate to anything that falls in the following categories: anime, fantasy, slice of life, superhero or survival horror. If you believe that you have an idea that I might be interested in, feel free to shoot me a link; I'll get back to you as soon as I possibly can. Sometimes I forget to check my messages, so don't feel bad about pestering me again if I missed it.

I also have a discord server laying around. If we're cool, then I might be willing to a toss an invite your way.

Okay? Did she look even the slightest bit okay? Christ, Hanna. For someone who dealt in gossip, it was as if you didn't know half of it. Of the history the two women had shared.

Though Anni would never admit it, the incident had been a driving factor for her need to fit in; to be somebody that wasn't so easily discarded without thought. Maybe it was too extreme of a rebound. An overreaction to her faith and trust being betrayed. Regardless, she had gotten it stuck in her head: if the people she cared about weren't going to give a shit about her anymore, then she needed a reason for people to give even a single fuck about ol' lonely Anni—a place where she felt she could belong to.

That said, we all know how it ended. It blew up in Anni's face, leading to four long years of torture and a resulting lifetime of misery. She tried to fight the tide—perhaps a little too hard—and paid the price for it.

"It's nothing." Anni replied to Hanna. "Just a backstabbing weasel thinking she's all that."

But is it with the keypad attachment or is it manually typed with the on-screen keyboard? Now that is the question.

Location: Trial Campground - Southern Plateau, Dundas Island
The Homecoming Trials #1.85 Trauma Dumping

Interaction(s): The Campfire Group
Previously: Forced Hands

"Thank you." Haleigh replied to Katja, taking a place nearby the campfire.

As Katja spoke, Haleigh listened in silence. Though she did take a bite of her kebab every so often, it was clear that what Katja had said was having an effect on Haleigh. Some might've seen Katja as trauma dumping; ruining their kebab barbeque and "friendly" campfire. Regardless of what others thought, however, Haleigh understood every part of Katja's lived experience. It was relatable, after all, her own experience in Vancouver being similar to what she spoke of.

She thought of giving Katja a hug, or perhaps a pat on the shoulder. Something to let her know things are okay. Her teammate had already extended similar courtesy back at the auditorium, so it was the least Haleigh could've done. But given the fact that she was in a wheelchair, and that Katja was already distracted by Banjo's excess kebabs, Haleigh let the conversation move on.

That's right. I'm not the only one here with bad history. Can't forget that.

Making a mental note to talk to Katja later, Haleigh watched as the conversation shifted to Trace. They glossed much over their own history, like it was bullet points on a PowerPoint. But when it came to their power? The rest of the kebabs on her plate didn't quite seem appetizing anymore to Haleigh—a feeling that grew even more obvious as the conversation shifted to Trevor.

Who could fault her? Eating a meal during a horror show or movie was one thing. This was full-on body horror being put on display before her eyes, in person!

Finally, the introductions shifted towards Makenna. Someone who Haleigh really hadn't the pleasure of meeting or interacting much with, if even at all. Part of her hoped she had a "normal" ability as Makenna introduced herself. Or, rather, at least something that sounded normal in all this craziness. Something that wasn't "I can grow arms out of my back", for example. Thankfully, Haleigh found herself relieved that Makenna's power was that of sound, or more specifically the ability to control.

Once Makenna finished, Haleigh glanced around the campfire. Most of the team had already spoken, but there were some that hadn't, such as herself. Taking the opportunity while it still existed, Haleigh decided to speak up just to get it over with. They were going to have to know eventually, after all. Keeping her power under wraps was only going to endanger the rest of her team and others at the school.

"I suppose I should probably explain some things. Hi, the name's Haleigh, though obviously some of you already know that. I'm from Vancouver—it's not that far from here, actually. About a day's worth of driving by car. Anyway, my dad is a Mountie. You know, the guys in red, one of the stereotypes when one thinks of Canada. Mom, well..."

Haleigh paused momentarily, before deciding to skip over that point. It was a topic she wasn't willing to go into.

"The Cascades were his stomping grounds, so he frequently brought me on his trips. To hike. Camp. Just anything to do with the outdoors. I guess he rubbed off on me in the end since I became an outdoors blogger and spent time out there solo before... well, the incident. I don't like to talk about it, personally. It's difficult to when one day you're... 'normal', and then the next you've buried yourself alive and become the reason people could've died back home. When your neighbors decide you needed to die over something out of your control."

She looked down at her legs, before taking a deep breath. They needed to know.

"Some of you are probably wondering about the wheelchair, I figure. Honestly, I hate it. I would much rather prefer to walk. But I can't. Not without people getting hurt. It's something that's been hanging over my head ever since I developed this stupid ability. I could sink this island with a stroll. Destroy the school with a jog."

Haleigh grimaced, clearly fighting back her emotions.

"I don't want to be the reason why more people get hurt, so I guess that's why I'm here. Tad's helped me with this inhibitor thing of his, but..."

She trailed off, unable to finish her statement.

It would've been a lie to say that Anni didn't expect CJ's indifference. After all, CJ hadn't given a single shit about her throughout high school, so why would she now? They were supposed to be tight. Best friends forever. And yet, CJ had chosen to throw it all away when she chose to feed Anni to the wolves, even going as far as to join the wolves in their ritualistic torment. Years of friendship went down the drain. Gone. Just like that.

"I know." Anni abruptly snapped in reply. "You haven't given a shit in years."

Once CJ walked off, Anni slumped back in her chair. This was supposed to be their miserable night. And yet, CJ found the perfect place—the weak spot in her armor—to poke at. Granted, it was an incredibly obvious weak spot, one that anyone could've seen from a mile away. Her comment had clearly annoyed Anni, who desperately wanted to wipe the smugness off her face. The following laughter was just insult to injury; the icing on the cake.

Fuckin' bitch.

"Anyone's guess."

Anni raised an eyebrow at their compliments, clearly not buying their friendliness. "Oh, Anni, you look great!" felt more like a façade than a true confidence booster. It reminded her of when Taylor Barton complimented her homecoming outfit, only for Anni to overhear her snickering to her friends about how ugly she looked. Eugh. So backhanded.

"I doubt it'd be any different than before, Ivory. It'd probably go something like," Anni began, putting on a terrible imitation voice. "'Oh, look, the geek thinks she's something!' Bunch of cunts."

Though Anni was more than capable of paying for herself, she admittedly didn't have any qualms to Hanna announcing her intention to pay for everyone's drinks. It wasn't her money that they were going to be burning through, after all. Free shit was free shit. You didn't complain when you scored a deal like that. That said, given what she had been planning for tonight, she figured Hanna would come to regret including her in by the end of this.

Whatever. That wasn't Anni's problem to deal with. It'd be Hanna's issue, not hers.

Despite all the big game Anni was planning on, however, the worst possible person (or maybe the best, she still wasn't sure) showed up, joining their conversation. The name—that fuckin' voice—prompted shivers down her spine, her anxiety shooting through the roof of PJ's. Of course it had to be CJ of all people. CJ fucking Markowitz, once best friend, now "bitch who stabbed her in the back". Anni had seen her name on the RSVP list, but she wasn't entirely certain CJ would come in the end. And yet here she was, in all her pale glory.

"CJ." Anni coldly responded, turning to face her. "It's been awhile. Doubt you remember your 'best friend', though."
