@Prince of Seraphs I'm more than capable of playing them in both places, and I've run the same character in more than one rp simultaneously before. In fact, Sini is currently active in an rp that's been running a year or two by now, and I'm using a modified version for my 4e game. I also have Max running in two separate places. I tend to use whichever character fits the setting best and that I'm in the mood for. I don't know if I have anyone else that would fit. I'll have to think on it.
In which case some originality might be in order. I mean I get having a particular character that can be used in a number of different settings with minor changes, I have a half dozen myself but... how do I say this without sounding really rude or self centered... I don't think I can so I'm just going to say it, don't take offense. If you've got the character actively running in another RP simultaneously it sort of feels like you didn't want to put enough effort into creating something for this universe which leaves me sort of feeling like I'm getting your creative leftovers. I know how that sounds but there wasn't really any other way to phrase it.
@Zendrelax Are you still interested in this RP? As of now I will be removing your reservation for Fall Ruler. You are more than welcome to create a sheet for that position but the position is now open for anyone to submit CSes for.
Very interested in this! Has the OOC thread been started? Also, another question, have you happened to read Holly Black's Tithe series? Or any other fiction Fae book series? I have yet to meet anyone as interested in this folklore world as myself and am very excited about this.
Are there any roles other than the Summer court leader that you'd like?
The OOC is not yet started. I'm waiting till we have enough people and characters to begin. As for Fae fiction series I must confess that the only thing that comes close to that would be the Shadowhunter series which only really featured the fae in the background. I've always loved folklore, particularly that of the Welsh and Irish so that's sort of where this comes from. Also if you're interested there is a TV show called "Lost Girl" that does a very good interpretation of fae in a modern setting.
The ruler positions must be filled before the RP can begin but there aren't any others that are required. You could be a commoner, an assassin, a knight, an adviser, a trader. Whatever you like.
I am a little concerned because of a certain other thread, but to be fair, the Fey Realm is not exactly a new thing. ^.^;
I must confess that is where the idea originated but I did not take any specific concepts from it other than those that I had added to the thread in the first place.
How close to folklore do you want various fey? Does everything need to have a solid base to be used as a trait? Is using works of fiction as a basis permissible? Would you accept Sini here again? What about Max and maybe Lei?
Alterations to established folklore can be used to make the fae more easily playable or fit them better into the RP. I don't mind liberties being taken but I would require that whatever they are they make sense and have a least a passing base in folklore. No adding powers to fae just cause. Inventing histories for certain fae is fine as well as inventing things to reconcile two contradictory pieces of folklore. Depending on the novel series I may consider it. As for Max, Lei, and Sini it may be best that they not make an appearance here. I created this to have more creative freedom not to infringe on or take away from the previous thread. And if I start poaching RPers and characters that is exactly how it will appear. LadyRunic and I have enough ill will between us. I do not wish to add more.
I see Duska in Nyx's background, and I don't mind that at all.
Oops, I did put the sheet up in a bit of a rush so I must confess that I did a poor job of weeding out the handful of things mentioned that were specific to the old thread. I think the beginning even mentioned Falk originally before I changed it to Lord Herne. If you're alright with it I can leave Duska's name there but I can just as easily change it.
I didn't think you'd really care. It is for the most part a fairly generic (if specific) list of character traits. This is my first time GMing an Advanced RP so I figured the best way to get started was use some traits from other successful Advanced RPs. But if it's that important to you I'll write something in when I create the OOC.
@POOHEAD189@Terminal@The Narrator Thought I should mention something. This is meant to be an extremely large RP (if I can attract that much attention) so everyone is welcome to have as many characters as they wish (so long as they are full characters and not just an extra arm for your primary to use). I myself will be commanding at this time four including Nyx. That number may go up. If you have ideas for multiply characters for this setting you are completely welcome to use all of them.
Among the fae it is known that true love is more powerful than almost anything else, being able to break curses and spells.
That is not exactly accurate. Love in the fae realm is... how do I put this, it's not uncommon but... Basically 95% of fae live by the idea that they come before all others, their comforts, their possessions, their power etc. So for fae love is generally considered a passing thing. Especially because they live so long and love is rarely ever truly permanent. That's not to say they won't act on feelings of love or affection. They will quite often. But the idea of giving something up for love or doing something selfless is not inherently in their nature. Not to say that some fae don't but it's not super common. Most fae that would make sacrifices for love are generally considered a little nuts. You get a bit of a pass for those related to you by blood as (unless you'd have them killed) they're pretty much in your life forever but for the most part lasting love in not something they cherish or indeed believe in. The concept of True Love and any kind of magical powers it might have is very much a human one.
Not a super important part of your CS given it was a throwaway line but I thought it important to mention to avoid confusion down the line.
Coldheart was born the elder of five brothers.
Are they quintuplets?
"We will not abandon each other. We are strongest with each other. We will hunt together and one day take revenge together. That I swear by my true name, Matchinaw!"
Unnecessary and incredibly foolish. An oath made in the fae land is binding. Unless released by the person who the oath was made to an individual can be forced to keep of their end of the bargain. Swearing on the true name or mentioning it at all is unnecessary. Using a fake one could be verified in about five seconds as true name grants total control over a fae. Using the real one is completely foolish for the same reason. So either there's four people in the palace able to control the actions of the king or his brothers knew he was a total liar from day one.
feasting on the humans who got lost through a nearby hole in the hedge that separated their two worlds and crossing over on their own, hunting them in their world.
That's metaphor right, cause the gates aren't generally such a literal boundary.
Through trickery he knew their true names, while they only thought to know his.
It is an extremely simple matter to verify if you have a fae's true name and most fae are not trusting enough to assume it simply to be true, even amongst family. There's no reason that the brothers would actually believe they had Coldheart's true name.
a spirit of death and decay named Grimm.
The names kind of cliche but not a huge deal I suppose.
He was also incredibly old, one of the oldest fae in the realm, equal in age to only the king of spring.
You would have no way of knowing this but I have three other characters in addition to Nyx. One of there backstories involves an incident with a previous Winter King that ended through his own foolishness in that king's death. He was also a fairly young ruler adding to his recklessness and eventual death. Given that fact their can't have been a Winter King old enough to rival the rumors of the previous Archon's age. Though if you are adamant about keeping this backstory for the previous Winter King I can alter my character's backstory to have taken place in the Fall Court.
The plan was set. When the King of Winter made it known that he shall hunt and sent for a well known hunter out of the woods the five brother saw their chance. They cornered the hunter the king had sent for on the road to the palace and killed him, devouring all the evidence of their crime. It was then Coldheart lied, telling the King he was the hunter, knowing that the king had never seen the true hunter.
The hunt was the king's last as he was lead right into a trap. The king and his guards fought bravely, blinding one of the five on one eye and cutting of the hand of another. But there was nothing more they could do against the surprise attack.
This I'm a bit apprehensive about. Fae smart and guileful enough to take a Court crown and keep it should also be smart enough to avoid a simple ambush. If it was a ruler from another land unfamiliar with the terrain and the Wendigo breed I might understand but this ruler has lead the Winter Court for thousands of years, should know his land very well as well as what sorts of wild fae he might encounter. Remember this should be a guy that would be very used to avoiding assassination attempts. He's aware that Wendigo inhabit the forest and even if Coldheart caught him off guard by being a member of his hunter party the least prepared he could be is bringing the kind of guards that would be able to take a Wendigo.
Plus if you think about it this wouldn't exactly be a difficult plan for basically any fae to pull off. Kill the hunter enroute to the castle, take his identity, lead the king into a trap on his usual hunt. It didn't take any special knowledge on Coldheart's part or skill specific to him except maybe his physical prowess but Wendigo aren't the only creatures with those kinds of abilities. If this was that easy to accomplish (even with the loss of limbs and such) it's very strange that no other fae has attempted to do it before, or in fact succeeded in doing so.
| Mother |
| Mother | The love of a son |His mother was for the first time of his live his warden and for the second part the motivation for his revenge. He would never admit he loved her. But she was the only being for which he ever felt that emotion.
Mom doesn't have a name?
| One Eye |
| Brother | Blood is thicker than water |
Be afraid of One eye. The strongest and biggest of the five brothers, he lacks any intelligence and is very gullible but has unquestionable loyalty to his brother. Coldheart values him incredibly much and would sacrifice a thousand subjects for him if he ever should have to.
| Swiftrunner |
| Brother | The perfect soldier |
Whenever something needs to be done but Coldheart himself cannot do it Swiftrunner will. He is the fastest of the brothers and has the rare attribute to always follow orders but also be able to adapt quickly to a change in a plan and take the initiative.
| Frosteyes |
| Brother | The second in command |
While Frosteyes lacks the brilliance of his oldest brother the youngest of the five definitely has cunning and even quite the patience and talent for statesmanship. Coldheart quite often delegates tasks to him.
| Ironhand |
| Brother | The King's Executioner |
The terror of anyone who dares to defy the king. The nightmare of any rebel. Many view him as completely insane and the might be right. He is the most gluttonous and brutal of the five. After he lost his hand in battle he replaced it with a hook whose tip is made of cold iron. What fae would be mad enough to do that?
Where you planning on playing these guys in addition to your Winter King? If so they would require their own separate sheets.
Also in regard to Ironhand, while the laws about the use of iron are set by the ruler and so with Coldheart's permission the iron hook would be allowed it basically guarantees that Ironhand will never step foot in any of the other courts. If you're cool with that go for it, I just thought I should let you know.
Archon Nyx
Coldheart sees the ruler of the Spring Court as a weak diplomat, hiding behind lies and manipulation.
Clearly I can't accept this character, can you imagine? Someone actually not liking my Nyx, *sigh* simply ludicrous.
Man if Emerald wasn't stuck in bed she'd go give Bianca a hug. But then of course Gratia would accuse her of trying to 'eat' Bianca, tie her up, and lock her in a closet. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Emerald could always passively eavesdrop on Oswald and Sapphire's mutual meltdown.
@Scarifar@ProPro@Zarkun@Suku I know the Lake and the Town both need my input to continue but there is nothing stopping the conflict in Hyrule Field from advancing between you four. Who is being waited on?
*Sergeant **Also insinuating that her rank is simply an E-3 or Sergeant is insulting. xD ***The correct terminology would be Drill Instructor. xD ****Plus, 'tis the military lifestyle in all seriousness.
And no emotion was behind their ass-chewings. If any, it would've been joy.
If you'll link me to the Team Code mission convo begninnging I can definately find the section where something about... I think it was something Diamond said caused Esther to have flashbacks to washing vast amounts of blood out of presumably dead soldier's uniforms.
