“Thanks, Jessie!” Akira said as the Sweeper exploded behind him. The medical tent which had been set up had now been evacuated, but the boy still thought of covering their retreat… Only to take one look at the remaining Sweepers and find out that no, those were not foes he could take. So he had to go back to another line and hope that the Catapults and Stoners (Contraptions which rolled rocks down the mountain) would take out at least one Sweeper.

How was he going to avoid being hit by the Catapults and Stoners himself? Well, being attuned to the Planet had its perks, and Akira’s next action was to tap into that connection as he ran, asking the air, the earth, and the mountain itself how -

“Jessie, duck!” Akira shouted as one Catapult tossed a large stone at one of the Sweepers, a large stone which, if Jessie ducked, would most certainly hit said Sweeper.

Assuming Jessie ducked, Akira would gesture at her to come with him, even as he ran towards a side path, a narrow trail which led through a bunch of large rocks, a trail which he had used before to get in and out various parts of the battlefield during previous attacks. This also allowed him and the AVALANCHE Agent to avoid another large, round stone that had been rolled down the main roadway up the mountain. As for the trail’s destination, it was one of the defenders’ fallback lines, where he hoped to find support for himself and Jessie -

“Duck again!” Akira said as he himself crouched while several large rocks flew overhead, more evidence of the primitive-but-effective artillery used by the Condorians. He then proceeded, with or without Jessie in tow, to the collection of fortifications which made up the fallback line… Only to find that a bunch of Shinra Grunts and a few Mako-mutated Hounds were locked in fierce combat with Fort Condor’s mercenaries, trying to storm the line.

“Damnit!” the boy said as he ducked and weaved among the interlocked fighters, curing the injured defenders and staying behind their ranks. He’d also give Jessie a cure for if she needed it, even as he built up the energy from adrenaline and stress which fuelled a potential Limit Break - If done right, a Healing Wind ought to turn the tide of this specific engagement.

Hopefully, a Sweeper would not show up and the previously tossed and rolled rocks had already taken out the ones pursuing them. But alas, Akira knew that hope was not the only factor in battle.

Planet, give me strength... his thoughts trailed off as he waited for enough energy to well up for his Limit Break.
So logged back into Discord to check the well Discord and realized I must have left the room when I was deleting a bunch of abandoned rooms earlier. Can we get a refresh of the invite? Please?@FalloutJack

@BigPapaBelial Hold on. I just got back from election work and I'm not gettin' on Discord 'till tomorrow, so I will ask...

@Letter Bee Would you please invite him in?

Akira Ayumu

Akira was prepared to earn his keep - The young healer had earned a name for himself in previous battles alongside his mother, healing rapidly enough to make the difference between victory and defeat. Nevertheless, he felt intimidated about how it was his first time fighting alone - Well, not really alone, but beside strangers, and he understandably felt nervous. As Jessie told the assembled mercenaries about the explosives set up in various choke points, as well as the Sweeper prototypes, he knew that his fighting style and skills were not optimized for such a foe, which meant another day hanging back in the medical tents unless some emergency happened.

Either way, once the meeting had ended, Akira would go to his allotted room to prepare for the battle, and by that, he was going to commune with the Planet and with his fellow Half-Cetra, Kanade.

Inside his room, Akira knelt on the bed and began to pray to the Planet, slowly opening up his consciousness to its voices. Pain. Suffering. Slow death - The Planet is undergoing all three. If only we can save it, if only we can stop Shinra from draining it...

<Kanade… Kanade…> Akira called out to the former noble, now member of AVALANCHE, <I need to talk to you… This has to be secret… Mother… Mom is dead. Shinra killed her when she tried to get into their HQ, and now I am all alone in Fort Condor and I don’t know what to do! Shinra’s going to attack and while I know we’ll beat them, I’ll still be stuck here. Kanade, please help - You’re the only family I have anymore!>

Tears fell from his eyes, even as the door opened - It was one of the officers, telling him that it was time to fight. That meant no tears as Akira reluctantly ceased the communion - It was time to fight.

Timeskip

Despite Jessie’s explosives, Fort Condor casualties kept mounting due to the Sweepers, making Akira’s job in the medical tents even harder. Stress was building up, although not enough to create a Limit Break.

“Cure!” Akira shouted as he healed another wounded mercenary just enough to put him back in action. Then he downed an Ether provided by a fellow member of the medical staff, even as the sounds of battle and explosions drew ever closer to the medical tents - The group needed to evacuate soon, but with the large numbers of wounded and Shinra’s pitiless approach to problems, that’d cause almost as many problems as staying.

A noise can be heard outside - It clearly wasn’t friendly. Akira, sighing, took out his Naginata and said to the Head Medic, “Evacuate the place - I’ll hold off the enemy!”

Without waiting to see if his recommendation was followed, Akira walked out of the tent, his Ninja training kicking in as he scanned the area around him. He then said as he faced a rocky outcropping, “You can come out now, you know - I’m on to you...”

The response was a bullet aimed at his head, which was parried by his Naginata’s blade. Several Shinra grunts then broke out of cover, daring to charge the boy in melee. Big mistake.

“Aero!” cried the boy as he surrounded himself with a small tornado, a small tornado which broke up the enemy’s cohesion and allowed him to launch a flurry of attacks (his ‘Flurry’ skill) on the temporarily-helpless soldiers, leaving them bleeding out on the ground.

“You brat!” said the Grunt Commander as he shot at Akira with his sidearm, only for the young man to run in zig-zags, dodging the bullets with his ninja training as he launched another Aero, this time a gust of wind which ought to blow the enemy off his feet. It did, and Akira was now on him before he can get up.

“This. Is. For. Mother!” he shouted as he brought his Naginata down on the Grunt Commander’s head, dealing a final blow to the helpless man...

I'm not overly familiar with Hathaway's Flash, although I have seen (and enjoyed) Narrative. However, as I said in the OP and in other posts, the idea is removing the player party from the Earth Sphere so that we don't have to worry too much about continuity and ongoing events as much, and can focus on creating our own story.

Regarding the interest, thanks y'all. Thats the minimum at least, so will work on getting an IC before the weekend.

All right, I understand.

No, you won't be forced to pilot GM's or Jegans. It'll be a selection of various variant versions of those, and some mass-production Gundams and other suits. I haven't nailed down the specifics yet, but there'll be a healthy selection. Part of the units' background will be that they're also operational test/evaluation for previous models of mobile suit and putting them into action, and their mecha were pulled together from the remnants and left-overs from earlier conflicts and special groups that have since disbanded.
As I said in the opening post, I'm not going to be fretting too much over exact continuity, but for the sake of answering your question, post-Char's Counterattack but pre-Unicorn, or even alongside Unicorn, but removed from the Earth Sphere and more out in the asteroid belt/Mars/potentially even the Jovian system, leaving things free to not be too bothered by the same characters, events, etc. I will be deliberately ignoring any manga, side-stories, etc that happen in those places and times to tell my/our own story, and the same for post-CCA/UC100 continuity.
Also it will be a group of Zeon remnants generally smooshed together, consolidating under one group for survival etc and otherwise being a nuisance in the outer Solar System.

Will it be possible to avert future events/tragedies somehow, like the events of Narrative and Hathaway's Flash?
Will the RP be consistently grim? Or will the grimness be changeable by player actions?
Name: Akira Ayumu

Age: 14

Gender: Male

Race: Human (Wutai)/Cetra Hybrid

Occupation: Ninja Apprentice/Healer

Appearance:

Personality: Akira is driven by the desire to learn more about himself, both as a citizen of Wutai and the inheritor of the Cetra species’ sacred mission. To honor the latter, he tries to be kind and forgiving, even to those who had killed his country folk and ravaged his land, but even at his age, the boy knows that kindness and compassion aren’t enough. Strength is needed to defend kindness and compassion, and force is sometimes needed to break the cycles of hatred that have engulfed the planet since time immemorial. Though young, Akira wishes to be known as someone who soldiers on despite the pain he has suffered, but knows full well that he’d wind up merely ‘posturing’ about things he does not really know anything about. After all, no one is truly free from anger and hate, and one should not regard oneself as such. Or at least, that’s his perspective. He also dislikes his own weakness and inadequacies, and grudgingly admits that he needs help in compensating for them...

History: Akira’s mother, Sakura, was a Ninja of Wutai who had found one of the few remaining Cetra in her travels. This Cetra, Kirin Ayumu, was a local healer whose handsome looks and kind disposition stole Sakura’s heart, and the two fell in love and married. Thus, Akira knew happiness in his first few years, until the War with Shinra reached their region of the Western Continent - And everything changed.

His mother was called away to defend Fort Tamblin, the greatest fortress of the Wutai Tribe, against Shinra’s forces of SOLDIERs. She survived. However, while she was away, their village was attacked by Shinra’s soldiers who were seeking his father for some nefarious reason, and Kirin hid his son and many other citizens in a nearby cave while he sought to ‘negotiate’ with the Shinra forces. He was taken prisoner by them and whisked off to an unknown fate soon after.

When Akira’s mother returned after surviving Fort Tamblin’s fall to Shinra’s SOLDIERs, she told the boy of his Cetra heritage and how Shinra must have kidnapped his father for experiments. As there was now peace between Wutai and Shinra, there was no hope of rescuing Kirin with military force… But that didn’t mean she wouldn’t try. And so Sakura Ayumu vowed to train Akira in the ways of the Ninja before she left, and the next seven years were spent teaching the young man in the ways of Ninjustu, where the latter discovered a talent with the Naginata.

Then on his fourteenth birthday, she and him started their trip to the Eastern Continent, disguising themselves as ‘travelling actors’ heading for Midgar. This allowed them to hide their weapons in plain sight as ‘props’. However, even with this, Sakura Ayumu found getting through security checks harder and harder as they went east, especially with Akira being too kind and honest for the subterfuge required to smooth-talk their way out of security checks and local suspicious people. This culminated with her leaving Akira behind on Fort Condor, a known Anti-Shinra hotspot, while she went on ahead towards Midgar.

During that time, Akira proved his worth as a Healer-for-Hire, helping the mercenaries who were protecting the Condors nesting on top of the Reactor in repelling Shinra forces. He also acquired some Materia from these battles, which fascinated him as Materia were forbidden for Wutai citizens as part of the Peace Treaty with Shinra. Then came the second trauma of his life - Word arrived from Fort Condor’s contacts in Midgar that Akira’s mother had been killed trying to infiltrate Shinra HQ.

And with grief, loss, and tears, Akira’s journey begins...

Skills:

Flurry - A series of swift strikes and cuts which can hit multiple times, but whose damage is reduced as a result.

Power Swing - Akira swings with all of his strength in a single, mighty attack.

Equipment:

- 1x X-Potion
- 4x Potion

William Ascot

When preparations for the competition began and there was literally no evidence of cheating from either side, William was pleasantly surprised - That meant more time to copy enchantments and forge items. Already, his ‘Soul Forge’ spell was activated and he was using his other powers to conjure up metal and additional pieces of wood.and bone for his next sword - Revelation. Revelation will then be empowered by the next series of spells he saw and copied with his Enchantment-Copying Eyes, and if those spells do not fit the name ‘Revelation’, he’d just name his sword something else.

A glance at Helena and William felt a surge of admiration - It seemed she was the reason there was no cheating, at least for now. Good. Now to wait for everyone else to draw Magical Artifacts - He was already discreetly copying the Darvon Sisters' Magitech and the powers those manifested. Hopefully, they didn't notice, but he can always pay them back anyway.

William briefly paused as his thoughts were diverted to another direction… He needed a source of information for his goals - Without information, his dreams of independent action would be stillborn. Thankfully, Jacob was not the only one with connections, even though William will admit that he was worse at playing the game of espionage. Scratch that, he was a newbie.

I hope you’re doing Okay, Jacob, were his thoughts as he looked to see if his brother was a spectator...
