Name | Mikael Peacemaker
Alias | Reflector
Age | 16
Gender | Male.
Appearance | 5'5, 60kg, Mikael has shortly-trimmed, clean blonde hair and green eyes and a slight build.
Notoriety | Noble.
Danger Level/Variant Type | Level 1 Distortionist
Abilities |

Power Reflector - Powers or attacks enhanced by powers bounce off Mikael's body and are either reflected back to their wielder, another person entirely, or on a random direction. This covers all powers of all types, whether physical, mental, beneficial or negative, meaning that he cannot be hurt or healed by powers unless he intentionally suppresses his ability, which in turn takes concious effort.

Drawback: This does not affect bullets, speeding vehicles, or other mundane weapons. Basically, if it is not a power or enhanced by one, it does not bounce off and affects Mikael as normal.

[Gear]
Attire | Mikael wears fine clothing, one which a rich boy would normally wear (see the picture for reference).
Armament/Equipment |

- Omni-Tool/Smartphone.
- Passport and Official Papers identifying him as a US Citizen, Registered, and Noble.
- Credit Sticks containing enough cash to maintain a wealthy lifestyle for several months.
- Bulletproof vest.
- Taser.
- Pepper Spray.
- Self-Driving Limousine /w bulletproof glass windows.

[Temperament & Lifestyle]
Affiliation | Lothlorien Co. (Start-up).

Personality/Habits | Mikael is dedicated to the study of powers, and his life goal is to find a way to replicate the Variant Gene in order to eliminate the inequalities which come from the existence of superpowers. Arrogant, standoffish, and a believer that money and power can solve every problem he has, Mikael nevertheless desires to be loved and love in return, which creates a vulnerable spot in his heart. Nevertheless, Mikael is self-aware enough to know that his behavior would cause problems in the future, and so he tries to learn the ruidments of politeness and etiquette.

Occupation/Trade | CEO of a Start-up Company.

Skills/Talents | Mikael is a socialite who has learned enough business and economics in order to run a company, and also surprisingly-skilled in track-and-field. He also knows basic programming and cybersecurity, enough to get into a heavily-guarded building with help.

Family | Ramiel Peacemaker (Father, Dead), Gabrielle Brown-Peacemaker (Mother, Dead).

Background | Mikael was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, to a rich family which had used investments in the tech industry, outward friendliness to Variants, and plain luck (though they would not admit that). His parents loved him without spoiling him, and knew that they needed to sacrifice some of their social position in order to spend time with their 'adorable and cute son'. And even though he didn't know that their devotion to him was unusual among the rich at that time, he returned their love with everything he had.

Nevertheless, growing up rich and privileged still made him isolated from those 'beneath him', and the love he was showered in blinded him to the ambition and grasping nature of his peers. And so when someone hired a Variant hitman to kill his family, it came as a surprise to him, and the only way he survived the superpowered fire the hitman blasted him with was the activation of his own abilities, which didn't save his family; even today, he still felt as though he might have been the one to kill them by reflecting his foe's attack.

Inheriting their wealth after inheritance taxes took a percentage of it, Mikael searched for a purpose in life, and that was studying Variants, first to save people from them, then later deciding that the best way to do that was to give everyone the chance to have powers. And so he first made sure to use his wealth and connections to get Registered and get a 'Noble' status from N.O.V.A. even as he prepared to use his remaining fortune to, well, start a start-up which would do research on Powers, fully-ethical research conducted on paid volunteers...

@Eclektik
Compelled mostly to always be researching, I have come across some material that is relevant to you @Letter Bee and how you might be perceiving Egypt.

Legacy Of The Development Policy of Muhammad Ali

tl;dr - Muhammad Ali's centralization policies had a dire effect on the Egyptian economy. While it aided in the industrialization of the Egyptian economy it was predominately centered on a mono-culture of cotton only which devastated agriculture on the long term, as well as provided the basis for an unstable development cycle where the state rose and fell depending on the global market. Egypt did well when the cotton economy was at a high and supplies elsewhere were generally low, and The State could charge European merchants higher prices according to the whims of market forces; but did not bring in that much money.

Likewise as I have told you before; all lands in Egyptian being owned by The State and Muhammad Ali by decree, as well as the rates to tax collection and Islamic charity to weaken the base of his opposition made everyone in effect an employee of the state. Where as before the Egyptian peasant merely paid tax to a local noble at a certain rate of agricultural produce per season, he now owed substantially more of it to the central state because Muhammad Ali's tax policy also meant many communities paid ten to a hundred times more in taxes than before. He also demanding mass corvee levies on the regular of his people meant that a lot of work in the field went missing to go work on a canal project somewhere which regularly killed thousands, if not tens of thousands. As the article goes on, this proved to be even worse for the development of the peasants as a monied class because even the forced break up of the state monopoly meant that all those functions just went to a few hands within the Muhammad Ali expanded dynasty, and also a mass of displaced peasants that ran away or mangled themselves to avoid any conscription what's so ever.

Combined of course in this RP of there being a much wider Egypt, and cotton prices probably being at a low because there's no real major crisis affecting the market means in all likelihood the Egyptian state should not be doing good. And I say this in urging of you to consider sparking off some rebellions for the long term. Combined with the impulse of the Mercantilist State to always be expanding to seek out new places from which to extract more wealth for use by the state. But the use of that wealth for development will be of course hindered, because it needs to maintain an army in a state of permanent mobilization to police its extensive frontiers and wastelands. There will be no end in sight either, no doubt; because Muhammad and Ibrahim were both very invested in this state and even accelerated under Ibrahim.

Which is to say: there must be war with the Arabs and there must be war with the Libyans for tithes must be paid in wealth or slaves and there must be revolt in Egypt. These are my missions to you, and they must be developed and launched.

I like it! I am going to be without laptop access for a week in two days, though, so it might take some time for me to make a post.

Also, I knew some of this, but I failed to realize that it was that bad for the peasants plus that the world market was much worse in this RP...

Absolutely...that sounds a lot more manageable.

@Letter Bee
Ok, not gonna lie...this is a lot. I'm trying to understand what the overall concept of this character is...because (in my own mind, of course) I can split him up into three or four different Variants with each of them being quite powerful on their own. I'm not sure how to direct you with so much going on with him. It almost feels like he was created for something much bigger than this.

It's more like he was created for an RP whose scope I mistook. Let's just say that the powers eventually raised issues after two months of him already being approved.

That said, the concept behind him can be simplified to "My kid siphons hope and willpower from people and uses it to create constructs of energy (the other stuff, like flight and healing, are optional)."

...Actually, I'll withdraw the concept and replace him with another one.

Is it okay to have someone whose ability is to reflect powers back at their user or some other target, but it only works with powers and not mundane bullets?
@Letter Bee ^ This ^

As far as 'power' goes, I'm pretty open to what capabilities that your Variant would have. Just use your best judgement and I'll let you know if you need to adjust things.

Would this power be all right? Note that I am willing to accept a serious nerf, reducing the number of powers or even their potency, if you think this would allow my OC or anyone who allies with him to skip large portions of your plans...

Hope Manipulation (Trump/Shaker/Master 8) - Andrew/Hope draws from his own Hope and the ambient hope of everyone within 50 meters of him in order to create a number of effects that cover every other Class of Power, including energy blasts, force-fields, energy constructs, flight, cellular regeneration, and material alteration.

The Drawback of this? This is Worm we're talking about; the world is crapsack and his teammates have strong traumas and the mental issues those cause, meaning that they might not be interested in hoping for a better future. Also, prolonged use (1 to 2 hours) depletes his hope and the hope of others, eventually sapping their will to live and rendering them catatonic and zombie-like if they don't commit suicide.

Lack of hope and excessive use of his powers can shorten this period further.

Sub Powers: These classifications assume an average level of hope in the affected area.

  • Energy Blasts (Blaster 6): Blue energy blasts of manually variable power capable of knocking a person off their feet and inflicting mild burns or blasting through unprotected flesh and punching straight through steel. These can be thrown as simple blasts or sustained beams.
  • Energy Shields (Shaker 6): Semi-transparent energy shields capable of halting a speeding car in its tracks with only moderate strain. Though, something as heavy and solid as a speeding armored truck will likely shatter them. Shields can be formed up to 2 meters away from himself, large enough to englobe him and anyone close enough to fit inside as well. The shields can be shaped somewhat but are always spheroid or semi-spheroid.
  • Energy Constructs (Master 2-?): Energy that can be shaped into tools, weapons, or small structures like miniature bridges that are as durable as titanium alloy unless specified otherwise. Can be as small as a screw or as large as a truck. However, the major caveat is that he must actually know how to physically build what he summons. For every object, he must have the theoretical blueprints for dedicated to memory. Technically, he could make anything, but advanced electronics and Tinkertech are far outside his reach. The more complicated the object, the more energy and concentration are required to create it. The most complicated thing he has managed to make with it so far is a wheelbarrow, but this power will only grow in utility and menace with time and study.
  • Flight (Mover 4/Breaker 1): Andrew can fly up to the speed of a small civilian helicopter, and his body is protected from the air resistance and friction of moving by his own power.
  • Cellular Regeneration (Brute/Striker 5): Andrew can heal his own injuries, even loss of limbs, and heal the same in others as well. He can also purge poisons and diseases and even rewrite another person's genetic disorders out of their DNA. However, he needs to touch the person being healed, concentrate his attention on them, and it costs a lot of energy.
  • Material Alteration (Striker/Changer/Stranger 2): Andrew can change the color, shape, and appearance of his clothing and any items he directly touches, but he cannot increase their durability; this means that he needs normal armor to protect his body, which The Wards provide. The changes are permanent but can only target inorganic or dead material (like his hair or clothing fibers). He can target something as small as a singular hair. He can alter an object's size to match that of something with equal weight. Effectively, mass is generally conserved.
  • Hope Sensing (Thinker 1): This allows him to sense the ambient emotion of hope in living creatures within 50 meters of him. This sense is incredibly broad, so he is unable to determine the number of people in the range or identify specific people. Within 5 meters of himself, however, he can apply greater focus to uncover hidden people, able to foil some Strangers or find trapped victims under rubble and the like.
@Eclektik, What power levels are you willing to permit for a Variant?

I have an idea for an OC but he might be too powerful for the RP.

Name: Hajime Sakurazaki

Age: 16

Grade: 2nd Year, Mephisto's School for the Wickedly Inclined (or maybe Kiburi's).

Biography: Hajime was born to a Samurai Family with very few Gifted in its ranks, and he was not one of those few. Learning how to use a sword from an early age, Hajime knew that he was slated to be mere cannon fodder for the Emperor of Izumo, whom he learned to fear and revere in equal measure. But as he grew up, still powerless, he began to resent his position and his powerlessness, hoping against hope that he would be given a Gift, that the Gods would notice him and give him one.

But no one took notice of him, he continued to toil and fight for his hated liege until one day, he was forced to kill civilians, innocent people. When he cursed his commander for forcing him to do it, he was told to commit seppuku and make it extra painful. With no other choice, he prepared to do so, finally giving up on life.

Then, a Micro Mech suddenly leaped down on them; yes, a Micro Mech - A 4-meter tall humanoid machine of magical materials and advanced technology which had been stolen from Ryujinmaru Co., Izumo's official Arms Company. This mech was piloted by Akio Takaki, an Ungifted whose piloting skills nevertheless landed him a place in the Izumo Resistance, a group that fought against the 'Usurper Emperor' in the name of the 'Legitimate Branch' which still held out in Rhea. Akio defeated Hajime's commanding officer and his cronies, his mech beating their gifts, and then offered Hajime a ride back to the Resistance's lair.

And so, after a period of mutual mistrust, Hajime joined the Resistance as a Mech Pilot. His adventures were many and he blossomed as a person, making many friendships over the next year and a half. Then, he and Akio were captured by Ryujinmaru Co.'s security personnel as they tried to steal one of the company's latest mechs. What happened next to him and his mentor was... Painful. Very, very painful. Then Akio was publicly shot in the back of the head and he, due to his relative youth, was transported to an illegal mining camp to be worked to death digging out gemstones from the ground.

Six months later, on his sixteenth birthday, he was on the verge of death, his stamina finally giving out. Tears in his eyes as he lay dying, his overseers about to 'dispose' of him, he wished for power, he wished for his mentor back, he wished for a free Izumo, he wished for a mech, he wished for a Gift, he wished for strength, he wished for everything he had been denied in his short life... And gunshots rang, but it was the Resistance that came to rescue him, bringing with them a new machine; A crimson mech, Heaven's Wrath, which had been gifted to the Resistance by the Nitta Clan, loyalists to the 'Legitimate Emperor-in-Exile'.

Constructed using a mix of Magic and Science, Heaven's Wrath was given a crude form of intelligence and the ability to 'Phase Shift' into a pocket dimension (same as that used by the Narrativia family, but the Nitta Clan didn't know it). And the mind within the machine bonded quickly with Hajime, seeing in him some sort of kindred spirit. This turned out to be because Heaven's Wrath's AI was based on Akio's brain patterns.

And so Heaven's Wrath saved the boy, who had a new vehicle and powers like a Gift, but not really. And after escaping back to an Izumo Resistance base, he was given a mission for someone of his new potential: Find the Legitimate Emperor of Izumo, if he is still alive, even if he had to go to the foriegn City of Rhea to do it.

Powers:

Core Power: Heaven's Wrath - Heaven's Wrath is a prototype Micro Mech meant to be used against Gifted opponents. Able to stay in a pocket dimension and hide as long as Hajime wills it to be, it can be made to expand to a five-meter tall mech that consumes all Magic which touches it, whether positive or negative; this consumption also makes it resistant to any mental effects hurled at its pilot (when in its cockpit) or its own barely-awake intelligence. Heaven's Wrath can also repair itself with the magic it siphons, and can extend this healing ability to its pilot as long as the latter is in his cockpit.

Drawbacks: The Micro Mech can be defeated with mundane force, including purely physical but advanced tech. Hit it hard enough with a blunt object and it can be destroyed and its pilot pummeled to submission. Also, its next three powers require it to be in its Mech Form. Oh, and it is only 4.51 meters tall.

First Power: Grasping Claw - As a Micro Mech, Heaven's Wrath can grab an enemy and drain the magic out of them while also cutting them with claws as sharp as a diamond.

Second Power: Mana Blast - Heaven's Wrath can blast an enemy with some of its drained magic, which in turn can melt down an apartment building at maximum power from up to half a football field away.

Drawback: Heavens Wrath has to use the same arm it uses for Grasping Claw to use Mana Blast, forcing it to choose between melee and ranged options but not both.

Third Power: Flight - And finally, Heaven's Wrath can fly, enough to perform high-speed maneuvers which can rival civilian stunt and air show planes while protecting its pilot from G-Forces and other environmental hazards like lack of oxygen.

Relationships:

Ken Illustrious Ikari: "You are my liege, and you are also very handsome."

Suzakura Plagarazes: "The worst sort of person."

Chinami Nakadai: "I'm glad my liege is disenchanted with her now."

Reverio Galand: "A person who made my liege sad. How I wish I can cut him down."

Orpheuz: "No, I am not your enemy, geez! But get in my liege's way and you will be..."
