Once upon a time, I used to cheer for May the 4th... now I cry with disappointment. *Except Clone Wars S7 and the Mandalorian - they are awesome*
Planning to get this RP off the ground by Friday! If anyone still wants to join, please do so now - and if any of you guys have ideas or questions, please feel free to ask!
It's alright man. I'm just messing around haha. When I last looked it was $3,000 and I was like "There better be a magician in this posse or there's gonna be trouble."
No trouble here, no sir-ee. Just trying to make things a little more realistic.
I thought we were getting paid $3,000 when we got there. There's some shenanigans at play here...
Oof I only changed that to accompany the fact of deflation. It’s based on the 19th century so $500 then would be a whole lot more in modern times. I could bump it up if need be but it’s still a lot of money for this “age” - like equivalent to $10,000 today.
If you've received this letter, then congratulations! You've been selected as one of the first lucky few to be a part of the new and upcoming establishment of "Lakewood". Located on the West Coast, this foundation is surrounded by green as far as the eye can see. We have huge redwood forests, tall expansive mountains, lush flowery meadows, a large lake up north, and a spectacular ocean view of the likes you've never seen before. It is the perfect sanctuary for those who want to avoid the bustling life of the city and to start anew in quiet open wilderness. What's not to love?
However, I reckon you don't live very close to our little establishment. In fact, I take it that yer livin' on the opposite end of the country, some roughly 2,000+ miles east. And unless you happen to own a big ole' flyer, yer gonna have to trek the whole way there, preferably by steed if ya have one. Thankfully ya won't be traveling blind, so long as you follow the "Morrison Trail". It will take ya straight to Lakewood so as long as you don’t stay off it too much. Don't you worry though, there are a few little towns and forts and all that, that you can stop by along the way to gather your bearings before continuing on yer journey. You ought to have received a map with all the notable stops included with this 'ere letter.
Still, I aint gonna lie about this trip being easy. It goes deep through mostly untouched wilderness and country, with sprawlin' mountains, forests, swamps, n' deserts and all that. Raiders n' natives are also known to hang around in several places near the trail, alongside other wild dinos and such. Thus I implore you extreme caution and to carry a weapon on ya at all times. The road will be long and potentially dangerous but once you get past all that, you will reach paradise. AND in addition to that, you will be awarded $500 upon arrival - enough to start your new life and to pay off any compensation you might've encountered during the trip (god forbid).
So if you're still determined to brave the trip to start your life anew, I wish ya the best of luck. We at "Lakewood" can't wait for you to settle in our little establishment! May the trail provide you safe and fast passage westward. Godspeed.
Sincerely, Michael J. Horner (Mayor of "Lakewood")
Howdy folks! Welcome to "The Morrison Trail" - a Western RP loosely based on "The Oregon Trail" (both the video game and actual events), alongside a hint of Red Dead Redemption, and being heavily inspired by illustrations made by Shaun Keenan in his art book "Dinosaurs of the Wild West" (you can see more of his stuff on his instagram, seriously a great artist).
The setting takes place on a fictitious continent - with technology stemming around the mid 19th-century - where you are a pioneer migrating west down the fabled Morrison Trail to start your life again in the town of Lakewood. Tagging alongside you is a dinosaur (or some other prehistoric creature) mount that you'll be taking care of, with it helping you on your way as you travel with a merry band of other fellow pioneers.
Of course, this journey will be far from easy. Within your 2,000+ mile trip, you'll encounter a wide variety of events that threaten to sway you off the established path to paradise. You have antagonistic raiders who want to rob you of your possessions, cautious natives eying your every move, wild creatures to fend off, dealing with disease, and a whole bunch of other things that can go wrong. Yet overall, there's so much uncharted land for one to explore! Perhaps you'll stop to do some side-exploration like exploring a cave or ruins for treasure; or stop by a town to accomplish quests for the locals?
Just what will you discover down the Morrison Trail?
1). - Follow the overall RPG rules - no godmodding, metagaming, etc.
2). - I will limit the initial party size up to 5 - 6 additional players. Once accomplished, recruitment will be closed until the party approaches a checkpoint (a town, village, fort, etc), where recruitment will temporarily open with a limit (number pending). This will help with replacing any players lost during the trip and to add more to the humble posse.
If anyone throws their interest to play when the RP is closed, they will be put on a waitlist until the next checkpoint (unless said otherwise). First come, first served.
3). - One main character per person, meaning that the character you make will be the one that you'll play for the entirety/majority of your run. NPCs may be permitted depending on their relationship with your main character (ie: family members or friends), but they cannot have a separate steed themselves (however one of them may own a companion creature if the MC doesn't have one). If you want to make another MC, you'll have to let your previous character go (ie: killing it, or having it leave the convoy, go missing, etc).
4). - You can pick any prehistoric animals to fit the role of your mount, with the exception of medium to large avian creatures (because that would just be too easy). However, I will also limit people picking the same species and family of creatures down to two spots (or 1 for huge creatures) for the sake of variety. The more unique your pioneer's mount is the better.
For example, instead of two people sporting Triceratops mounts, one other person should instead go for a different ceratopsian like, say, Styracosaurus. And once two people have claimed ceratopsian mounts, the niche is closed until the respected character dies/leaves/etc. Exceptions may be provided given the case - talk to me for more details. For example, if someone wants a Psittacosaurus companion (a primitive ceratopsian), it's still valid as it's not a steed and is different enough to not simply be a "clone".
5). - GM updates will happen weekly or bi-weekly depending on how fast everyone posts. Posting requirements aren't too strict, but please try to include more quality instead of quantity in your posts. It really goes a long way.
6). - Being as how the journey on foot will take about multiple "in-game" months, there will be situations where a short time skip will be initiated (often being a few hours to a week depending on the circumstance). This will help move the plot if things are getting slow, or after a major event ends.
7). - I would love to have an active and consistent crew. Please be as active as you can! If you are unable to post for sometime, need an extension, or want to leave due to whatever reason, PLEASE tell me sooner rather than later. We don't want to wait for others lagging behind and stagger the RP.
8). - If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions regarding the RP, please don't hesitate to ask me or the CO-GMs.
9). - And of course, have fun pardner!

Below is a list of descriptions revolving around the stats of your chosen prehistoric steed and/or companion. Please take into effect of what creature your character has and pick the best stats that would fit it. If you're not sure, you can always ask.
1 ▣▣▣▣ - Tiny. You cannot ride them, however they can hitch a ride on you instead. Companion creatures fit this measure. (ie: Microraptor, Dimorphodon, Hypsilophodon, Dodo)
2 ▣▣▣▣ - Medium-Sized. Big enough for at least one person to ride, as well as carry a limited weight of cargo. Usually around human sized or slightly larger. (ie: Utahraptor, Ornithomimus, Pachycephalosaurus, Ceratosaurus)
3 ▣▣▣▣ - Big. Can easily carry two or three people alongside a significant amount of cargo. Usually bigger than a person. (ie: Allosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Triceratops, Euoplocephalus)
4 ▣▣▣▣ - Gargantuan. A stat reserved for the largest dinosaurs. Can carry up to a wagon-full of people and a lot of cargo depending on size. Will have trouble moving through tight spaces.(Ie: Most Sauropods, Spinosaurus, Shantungosaurus, Woolly Mammoth, Paraceratherium)
1 ▣▣▣▣ - Very weak. Can't do much damage to anything bigger than itself. (Archaeopteryx, Protoceratops, Coelophysis, Thescelosaurus)
2 ▣▣▣▣ - Not too strong. Can carry a person or a small amount of cargo and deal moderate damage. (ie: Deinonychus, Camptosaurus, Macrauchenia, Borealopelta)
3 ▣▣▣▣ - Pretty strong. Enough to cause serious damage to potentially kill something or move small objects. (ie: Theriznosaurus, Centrosaurus, Simbakubwa, Crylophosaurus)
4 ▣▣▣▣ - Very powerful. Strong enough to move boulders, smaller structures, or fallen trunks with ease. Can easily kill someone if you aren't careful. (ie: Tyrannosaurus, Short-Faced Bear, Diplodocus, Ankylosaurus)
1 ▣▣▣▣ - Slow. Walk at a slow pace. One can easily pass them by brisk walking. (ie: Huge Sauropods)
2 ▣▣▣▣ - Fairly Slow. Can trot fairly decently but faster creatures can easily catch up to it. (ie: Kentrosaurus, Giganotosaurus, Shunosaurus)
3 ▣▣▣▣ - Average. Can sprint quickly for small distances. (ie: Gorgosaurus, Carnotaurus, Styracosaurus, Smilodon)
4 ▣▣▣▣ - Speedy. Can easily out-speed most creatures. (ie: Raptors, Ornithomimids, Small Pterosaurs, Phorusrhacos)
1 ▣▣▣▣ - Pea-brained. Definitely not the brightest bulbs. (ie: Most Sauropods, Stegosaurus, Edmontonia)
2 ▣▣▣▣ - Not too intelligent. Not the dumbest creatures, but below average. (ie: Diabloceratops, Lambeosaurus, Charcarodontosaurus, Elasmotherium)
3 ▣▣▣▣ - Average. Can listen to basic commands and/or signals. (ie: Neovenator, Herrerasaurus, Macrauchenia, Gallimimus)
4 ▣▣▣▣ - Very Intelligent. Can be very social and/or follow advance trained commands. (ie: Raptors, Dire Wolf)

The oni wouldn't find herself going alone, as several others followed her close behind. Ratiq hid within her shadow from the prying eyes of Noire, who happened to be conversing closely with the head Bone-Man himself. The Chryseis lion would also come along as his radiant golden fur contrasted heavily within the dark, damp cavern. Even the silent Pandora wandered behind, looking curiously at the blank puddles of water that littered the ground. Jukati was perfectly fine going on a killing spree against the canid wardens, but she guessed they wanted a chunk of the murder pie as well. They probably couldn't help themselves.
Nonetheless, they would reach the werewolves' fort, which was located within a large cavernous keep. She could already hear the mutts' howls echoing from within, no doubt signaling the others to rally up and prepare themselves for the imminent battle. Ratiq would whisper this concern before vanishing in an attempt to enter the gated keep. She could barely see him slip by just as the gate closed in on him.
"Al'ighty," the muscular oni barked as she clasped her fists together, "If those damn mutts wanna have a go at us, then let us put 'em in their graves."
Before she could act on anything, the lion roared into battle as he pounced onto the wolf horde. With his entrance completed, it prompted Jukati to bellow a trembling war cry as she too ran into the battlefield.
"GRAAAAAH!" the oni boomed as she connected her flaming, meaty fist into the lower jaw of an unfortunate warden.
The wolf would find itself slamming head-first into the ground before the oni's foot caved its skull in with a sickening crack. Three other wolves had now proceeded to focus their efforts upon the raging oni as one lobbed its spear towards her. Jukati would strafe to her right, yet was quick enough to snatch the spear from midair. Her fist would cast the spear on fire just as a wolf lunged with a ferocious snarl. The oni jabbed at the wolf's torso with the flaming spear, before tossing it at the second wolf.
But the warden would swiftly dodge, prompting it and the other wolf to make their attack. The second wolf would lunge with a powerful leap, only for it to be countered by a flaming kick that threatened to shatter its ribcage. As the warden was tossed onto the hard ground, the third guard would be more cautious as it issued a mock charge to grab the oni's attention. Jukati lunged, leading the wolf to side strafe and swipe its spear towards its opponent's side, issuing only a minor scratch. It was a fruitless endeavor for blood as it found its snout obscured by Jukati's massive hand that lifted it off of the ground. Its spear would be snatched away as its face began to scorch in flaming agony, before it would feel flaming fist create a literal hole into its mid-riff.
As Jukati was about to drop the near-dead corpse, she would see the second warden attempt to get up from the corner of her eye. She would quickly advance on its position - still holding the third wolf by its face - before smashing the body straight on top of it, ending both of their lives on the spot.
