Bio

Current GM of World of Light. When it comes to writing, there's nothing I love more than imagination, engagement, and commitment. I'm always open to talk, suggestion, criticism, and collaboration. While I try to be as obliging, helpful, and courteous as possible, I have very little sympathy for ghosts, and anyone who'd like to string me along. Straightforwardness is all I ask for.

Looking for more personal details? I'm just some dude from the American south; software development is my job but games, writing, and trying to help others enjoy life are my passions. Been RPing for over a decade, starting waaaay back with humble beginnings on the Spore forum, so I know a thing or two, though I won't pretend to be an expert. If you're down for some fun, let's make something spectacular together.

It's cool.

I've gone and searched and found the question. Because it's been some time IC, I'm passed the point where I can edit a response in from Sanders and still make temporal sense. Would it be alright if you assumed that he said:

"We're not entirely sure. When she goes into that state, she comes close to embodying the essence of death to which she as a user of the Reaper is sworn. Best we can say, it's name is Ereshkigal."
@Lugubrious
So no response for Enma?

Missed it.
Indigo Afina – Arena Stands

@lunarlors34@oblivion666

Indigo shrugged. The girl would evidently place her ego over reality, so she wouldn't bother to tell her that rocks didn't burn. Every little detail did not to be prodded to make an effective argument. Her second response, however, elicited clarification. [color=007FFF]”You would if your general told you to.” The librarian watched as Ash took a deep breath, considering the path that lay before her. When she felt ready, she replied, and Indigo listened with her fist placed pensively against her chin.

As expected, she found herself confronted by tangible reluctance from Ash on the subject of submission. Fire blazed in the other woman's eyes, sparks of defiance, but she fell short of the sort of domineering presence maintained by Indigo in that moment. Her prideful statement received swift rebuke. ”We have a saying in this guild: talk is cheap. Sputter about invincibility if it pleases you, but you will be defeated. One does not grow stronger by beating weaker opponents. If you already think you're at the top, you're in for a rude awakening.” Indigo crossed her arms, and her eyes like a bottomless sea gleamed darkly. ”And you will care about what we tell you to care about. This guild isn't a tool. It's a job. With all that in mind, follow me. We will initiate you forthwith.”

Pausing only to watch the splendid end of the match between Phoenix Wing and Frenzy Plant, and to be filled with pride for her comrades, Indigo led Ash toward the warrior guild's seating area. Once there, she singled out a C-rank sorceress with dyed hair that shone a shocking orange in the day's sunlight. ”Private Riona!” she called, waving. ”Come over here, please!”

She waited for the pyromancer to comply before explaining. ”You've been with us only about a day, but I think you're the perfect candidate to provide a test for Miss Ash here to enter our guild. I trust you will pit your full power against her, and push both of yourselves to your limits.” A subtle smirk crossed Indigo's features. While she did not show it overtly, Ash's pride had annoyed her, and picking Riona to test her seemed appropriate payback. Though only a C-rank wizard, she obviously possessed power worthy of a high B-rank if not A-rank, and would hopefully challenge the willful girl. If she passed, Indigo already planned to put her against Enma, the brutal Oni, second. ”It would be my pleasure to escort you both outside the arena, where an impromptu duel can begin.”

Owen Whately – Frenzy Plant Stands

@Zarkun

When Damian arrived at the Frenzy Plant seating area, he found a languid southerner on call to receive him. The sight of the Blade of Phoenix Wing made Owen's brow furrow and brown eyes darken. Seeing that Damian had practically blinded himself in an attempt to ignore any well-warranted unhappiness, Owen thought it fitting to ignore him, too. After all, Frenzy Plant's representatives had just defeated two Phoenix Wing swordsmen. No doubt Damian wished to upbraid Sanders like his master had about taking the conflict personally, or perhaps in vengeance he wanted to pick a fight of his own. Better to not embroil himself in what could erupt into a violent confrontation, given the individual involved. While Damian absorbed a couple more sideways glances and glares, the various soldiers around him quickly returned to concentrating on the new match now underway in the arena. Riders Blade and Dragon Fang, it seemed, would be working to make good accounts of themselves. Already they displayed impressive magic power.

With the collective focus elsewhere, Damian received no reply. Sanders did, however, sit fairly close by and perfectly visibly to boot. Frenzy Plant's general had not yet noticed the newcomer.
Duly noted. Neither of us will afford the other all of the nonobjective assumptions necessary to solidify our side, so it truly is of little use arguing. My only remaining criticism is that using the 'I now make a dignified exit of this argument' card isn't as impactful if you do it after putting a lot of effort into furthering the argument; it is if used in place of a rebuttal, which I am doing now.

While aware that I cannot please anyone at this point, I will endeavor to alter my post in a manner based on your feedback. If Bee does the same for mine, we can put this mutually aggravating episode behind us.

EDIT DETAILS: the situation has been retconned somewhat. There are four ordinary guards rather than six, specifically mentioned as contracted security, and who are armed with pistols. There is one low-level Reclaimer, who happened to be nearby, the one with the shields. He has been named and an entry for him will be put into the operative index shortly. The security guards' offensive power has been reduced to fit mook-level expectations, so they can be slaughtered like cattle in Bee's post. The differences are now not so drastic that I cannot progress until Bee edits, so I will begin working on a new post after I finish making new information concerning Gilgamesh's practices, including weapon arms and facilities.
I edited my post. I didn't think it was hard to understand what my guy was doing though.

Thank you.

I must color myself confused. In your post you mentioned some sort of cloud, created by Gomory? I'm not following.
@Lugubrious The .gif that is your avatar has random pixels regularly flying out of place and making it look awful.

Just FYI.

True.
Like I said, I can give them names if you're hung up on that. The only one of the soldiers who's talked right now is the big one, so saying that they all 'talk like thugs' is patently untrue, which is a theme that I think will continue throughout this discourse. The others do have unique weapons, like the organic acid blaster I described, and the lightning rod. Gilgamesh isn't supposed to be fought yet as a whole. I wasn't going to use it in any situations for a while, but you and Bee immediately decided to fight it. I thought you might have known what you were getting yourself into and wanted the challenge, which is why I allowed it to continue.

The security guards are all Reclaimers. Why would Gilgamesh employ some contracted ordinary human personnel when it has its own army of trained soldiers to draw from. Since you picked a fight with a mid-level faction, you're getting mid-level enemies. Simple as that. This Gilgamesh branch office isn't even supposed to be some sort of 'dungeon' or whatever you're making it out to be, with ten floors and a boss, all nice and videogamey. It's just a staging ground for operations in Barlour city. The HQ is far, far away; I haven't disclosed where because I specifically did not want people messing with it yet. Now that would be more of a dungeon.

So, I've encountered a big-time problem: somehow, I missed the post you made directly after Zarkun. I don't know why; I must have been so focused on Bee's post that I developed tunnel vision...very embarrassing for me. Now that I'm reading it, I rescind what I said about Tickler being ignored. Sorry. However, there are other problems. You did autohit Tickler, but I'll let it slide as payment for my mistake. There's no real reason that she'd be able to block it anyway.

You should not presume about the building's construction to make a point against me. I mentioned that this branch office is more of a staging ground than an actual corporate workplace. Why would Gilgamesh bother lining it with corporate niceties? Instead of tile, try concrete. A slab of concrete would be far more likely to hit multiple opponents spaces several feet away from another than a lance thrust.

I would recommend not attempting to defend Bee's writing in this case. While not taking note of Tickler makes more sense in this case if he assumed that your character eliminated this apparently heavily-specialized soldier in one shot, he still has the wrong idea about a huge variety of factors, and I'm absolutely positive he didn't even know 'Stonewall' existed, so there's not any capitalization being done on that front. Flawlessly negating all incoming attacks and bypassing any possible enemy defenses to kill them all with ludicrous ease is not a creative solution at all. It's godmodding.

Due to having an incomplete database, I did not intent for the normal soldiers to be memorable; I was making a point about how apparently a character has to be memorable to be powerful in your eyes. A Blitz is not a memorable enemy, but it is a threat nonetheless.

Your penultimate declaration is, again, patently untrue, aside from being an ad hominem argument. If Bee acted like the soldiers were the threats they are and put in effort, I'd allow them to be defeated in short order. The damage dealt to Tickler is further proof of how little I care that the members of the faction go unscathed, as long as more than lip service is paid to the act of defeating them. You put in effort to attack Tickler, so you succeeded. The bottom line is that there aren't many Reclaimers in this building. Tickler, Macbeth, and entourage, and perhaps a few similar Reclaimers on one of the upper two floors, are the only threats you're going to encounter. The threat escalates now, and then it's over. You will have beaten the forward base. If you just plowed through everything like it was nothing only to find that you'd already taken care of the only fighting force in the building, you would have been more disappointed, no?

I think it is rather selfish to blame me again and again for your mistakes and misunderstandings. I provided a situation that seemed to me to be clear-cut: Gene and Antonio are fighting a squad of Reclaimers, of which Tickler and Macbeth are the most notable, and it's going to be a tough fight. I had expected that you knew what you were getting into when you picked a fight with the army tasked with humanity's defense. Extrapolations based on your expectations, rather than my specifications, are hardly my fault.

Ideally, your badass private army with unique weapons and cool powers should be comprised only of named characters, and delivered only in small doses.

That is my intention. Cool characters, small doses. If you want to help me with my ongoing project of making named characters to put into the database, with the ultimate goal of having the army comprised of them solely, then be my guest. I'd love the help.
@rivaan Far superior to even my best stick figures.

@Lugubrious Who's the new avatar? I'll miss Pacho. ;(

I don't know who it is, actually. Pacha's pretty great though, I might bring him back.
@Zarkun so what do you think of my drawing? Cause I was hoping for some comments, but no one says a thing. Might as well ask about it ^_^

Twas nice. Next time if you want comments, specifically ask for feedback.
