"True, if we had been better parents, you wouldn't have slept with Madison Cromwell and you wouldn't have had your little accident," Banner muttered, his eyes flickering over towards Guin. He had read the papers. It hadn't taken the press long to figure out that Tony had to have been sleeping with Maddie while she was filming a season of some reality dating show. It wasn't like Maddie had tried to hide the fact that Guin was her kid, either. She did at least eleven exclusive interviews (though were they really exclusive at that point?!) as soon as Stark Industries released a statement saying that Tony had an infant daughter, roughly a year after Guin was born.
Guin stared at Banner for a moment, and then glanced over at Tony, Pepper, and Lance, before she ran off to her room at the Malibu house, not wanting to talk to anyone. She hated being reminded of who her mother was and the fact that she hadn't been wanted - that she was just a mistake, an accident, something that never should have happened. She wasn't supposed to exist. Once she reached her room, she shut the door behind her and slid down to the ground, pulling out her walkman. She hit play and Here Comes the Rain started to play.
Pepper sighed, holding her tongue. She had sworn she'd never say anything about it, no matter how much she wanted to. "Really, Bruce?" she asked pointedly. "She was just starting to act normal again."

History
Your Path: The Magnisky family has been tinkering with metal and designs for centuries, millennia even. It was more or less expected that Antonije would do the same - but make no mistake, he loves the work. He fancies himself to be an inventor, a futurist of sorts, even as others perceive him to be just another adventurer. He travels the world, looking for ideas and components for his designs, researching as much as he can about the ancient world that was dominated by machines and mechanisms, rather than Magyk and Alchemie. Inventing, tinkering, learning - it comes to him naturally and if he were forced to stop...He'd rather perish in the flames than live like that.
General History: Antonije, called Tate by those who have difficulty with names from the Eastern SnowPlains, is the oldest of three. Their mother came from an old family of tinkerers, with carefully guarded family secrets and heirlooms. His father was a former scribe, having dedicated his life to the "Revival of Steam." Magyk had replaced machines and mechanisms, a fact that Antonije's parents sought to rectify with their work. With old money and resources to draw upon, as well as rumored land in the Big Wild Land Over the Ocean, the Magniskies continued their work - until there was a catastrophic accident and their factory blew up.
Marya and Medea, Antonije's little sisters, managed to get everyone out in time thanks to their gift of speed. It was an old power that remained in the family, showing up every few generations. Yet with such a violent event, the Emperor of the Eastern SnowPlains could no longer turn a blind eye - what they were doing was against tradition and threatened their way of life. The family elected to leave the country, in order to continue their research, and they obtained ownership of a decrepit observatory in the Badlands of the Small Wet Country Across the Sea.
There Antonije learned the family secrets and traditions, studying Ancient English so he could read copies of notes that went back millennia. He even translated them into Serbian for ease of reference. He studied machinery and mechanics, learning to invent and manipulate his environment to do as he wished without the use of Magyk, whereas his sisters just wanted to run. While it was a new country, they were together as a family and truly wanted for very little.
Tragedy struck again when he was in his teens. A contraption gone wrong took the lives of his parents, destroying many of their family heirlooms and artifacts in the process. His siblings managed to grab Antonije and ensure that he got out - but that was it. They were stranded and alone. Constance, the Port Witch, came to adopt all of them. Yet by the time Antonije's paperwork had been processed with the Port Authority, a stranger named Bruce Banner had adopted his sisters. It was through Bruce's initial neglect that he was able to be reunited with them again, as the twins would run to their old family home in the Badlands and spend time with their brother. Constance never argued against it, even helping the twins obtain admission into the Port Witch Coven.
Thoughts on Queen Meliscente: Antonije doesn't really care about the Queen. As far as he's concerned, it was just a matter of time before someone decided to assassinate her. Power invites challenge - and as much as he pities her successor, it's just the way the world works. No one can change that. It doesn't really matter if it was the Eastern SnowPlains, the Northern Traders, the Big Wild Land Over the Ocean, or even one of the witch factions...The end result would be the same. It's time to move on from fretting over a dead woman.

Premise
In an unpredictable and chaotic world, we seek to control that which we do not understand; to grant ourselves immortality through preserving the past; to find ourselves. But there is a noble calling that only the bravest and the kindest rise to answer - to protect those who cannot defend themselves. These individuals have chosen to be humanity's first line of defense against whoever may wish to do us harm, sacrificing their lives so that way we can live to see another sunrise.

Our story begins after the fall of O.M.E.N., a brutal branch of the United States government that could not tell the difference between dangerous criminals and an innocent child. With O.M.E.N. gone, S.H.I.E.L.D. has seen its budget and resources soar to levels that they had not had since Howard Stark and Peggy Carter founded the agency. Yet they have also inherited a number of threats and situations that O.M.E.N. had been monitoring, spreading Fury's force thin. Reserve agents are being called in for active duty and agents who had applied for retirement are being asked to reconsider.
At S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy, the very best of the graduating class of cadets have been asked to participate in a unique study. In order to combat the ever changing threats of this new world, we need to adapt. S.H.I.E.L.D. scientists are interested in creating a team of super agents, balanced perfectly with the relevant skill sets, that might be able to make a difference in this world. Their process has been adapt in identifying latent X-genes, as well as inhuman DNA markers. And in the case that the subject has neither, scientists are experimenting with the application of radiation to induce powers.
And while the formation of this team brings hope for the future - a warm light for all of mankind to share - it casts shadows. In those shadows, there are whispers of an old foe returning from the brink of extinction.

The Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division was founded in January of 1949 by Peggy Carter, Howard Stark, and Chester Philips. It absorbed the Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR) - the Allies' deep science agency that was responsible for the creation of the serum that turned Steve Rogers into Captain America. Following the conclusion of the war and the defeat of HYDRA, S.H.I.E.L.D. continued to monitor the world for catastrophic threats, as individuals with abilities and superior technology became more and more commonplace. The age of heroes had just begun - but so came the rise of villains.
In short, S.H.I.E.L.D. often deals with alien technology, superpowered individuals, and events that boggle the senses. Despite the agency's success in protecting the world since its founding, its failure to prevent the alien invasion of New York in 2012 and then the Altsoba Massacre (see the RP Abandoned Hope) prompted a defunding of the agency. Its budget was limited significantly and then given to O.M.E.N., a rival US intelligence and military agency. Fortunately, after O.M.E.N. attempted to kill the X-Men while the Mutant Registration Act was being debated in Congress, the rival organization was shut down and S.H.I.E.L.D. saw its funding restored.
Recruitment for S.H.I.E.L.D. can be fierce. Recruits usually have a college degree, but it is not required with the exception of Science and Technology, where candidates need at least one PhD to enter the building. Very few agents are trained 'on the job' but there are some scenarios in which this is the case. Additionally, individuals can be recruited for various initiatives without progressing through the academy, such as the Avengers Initiative. Its current director is Nick Fury and its primary headquarters, the Triskelion, is located in Washington D.C.
Our World
In this RP, we consider the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies up to and including the first Avengers film to be cannon. There are roleplays that have happened in this timeline as well, forming our own Roleplay Universe (please click here to see the full in depth lore guide for our multiverse). We primarily cross over with the RP hosted by @BlueSky44, X-Men: Darkness Rising, although you do not need to be a member of it to enjoy this RP! Think of it like watching Ant-Man. Sure, there are nods and small cameos from the other Marvel movies, but you can enjoy it perfectly fine as a standalone film.
Now, onto what you're all waiting for....Powers! In our universe, we have known that we were not alone in the world since 2012, due to the Incident. Aliens are real, powered individuals are possible, and almost anything seems to be possible.
Previously, any and all powers and abilities were simply referred to as deviances. If someone was perhaps a little odd, in that they could see things that others could not, perhaps that they could heal with a single touch, or that they were immune to flames, they were said to have a deviance. Years after the Altsoba Massacre, this definition was revoked and revised, as we realized that it is simply more complicated than that.
Mutants, also called homo superior, are powered individuals who gain their abilities due to an X-gene. This gene is something that is simply part of their genetic makeup from birth. It can be activated when the individual is subjected to great stress, often during puberty or traumatic moments. It's important to understand that while a mutant's powers can be called a mutation, they were born mutants. They did not mutate throughout the course of their lifetime.
Mutates are those who, as the name implied, mutated to gain powers. This is often due to the presence of electromagnetic radiation outside of the visible spectrum. Encounters with radioactive waste would certainly qualify. It is possible for those with an X-gene to mutate when exposed to radiation or other materials, but it is uncommon and also effectively 'neutralizes' the X-gene.
Inhumans, also called inhomo supremis, are individuals who are descended by unfortunate souls who were experimented on and had their genetic code modified. This unorthodoxy in genetics can be activated through a process called terringenesis, in which the inhuman emerges from something akin to a cocoon with newfound abilities and powers.
S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy
For this roleplay, all agents will have gone through one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s three academies. Each academy specializes in training recruits to become a certain type of agent. They all also have different entrance requirements. Students are not allowed to transfer between academies and retain their "placement" in graduation order - (i.e. if a second year at Communications transfers to Operations, they start over as a first year). It takes four years to graduate.
All cadets, regardless of their program, are required to take History of S.H.I.E.L.D. during their first year.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Communications is the largest of the Academies. Its curriculum focuses on data analysis, with a majority of its cadets going into positions where they monitor threats S.H.I.E.L.D. has identified around the world. Other examples of activities include monitoring for suspicious activity and cyberterrorism. Communications interacts the most with the other two academies and tends to be the easiest to enter.

To add to its formidable reputation, Operations also has the highest percentage of washouts due to the immense difficulty of the program. It isn't for the faint of heart. Specialists come from this program - one person who can effectively operate solo without back-up and get the job done. Field Agents are also trained here, although they integrate best into the structure of a team.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Science and Technology (often abbreviated to Sci-Tech) is the hardest academy to gain admission to. Each cadet has to have at least one PhD, with some having as many as two or three PhDs (although the fields of study tend to be incredibly similar). Students are prepared to assist S.H.I.E.L.D. through a scientific perspective, with most cadets ending up working in laboratories at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters. Some, however, will be assigned to a mobile unit in the field.

Location: S.H.I.E.L.D. Premise
In an unpredictable and chaotic world, we seek to control that which we do not understand; to grant ourselves immortality through preserving the past; to find ourselves. But there is a noble calling that only the bravest and the kindest rise to answer - to protect those who cannot defend themselves. These individuals have chosen to be humanity's first line of defense against whoever may wish to do us harm, sacrificing their lives so that way we can live to see another sunrise.
They have chosen to be a shield.
Our story begins after the fall of O.M.E.N., a brutal branch of the United States government that could not tell the difference between dangerous criminals and an innocent child. With O.M.E.N. gone, S.H.I.E.L.D. has seen its budget and resources soar to levels that they had not had since Howard Stark and Peggy Carter founded the agency. Yet they have also inherited a number of threats and situations that O.M.E.N. had been monitoring, spreading Fury's force thin. Reserve agents are being called in for active duty and agents who had applied for retirement are being asked to reconsider.
At S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy, the very best of the graduating class of cadets have been asked to participate in a unique study. In order to combat the ever changing threats of this new world, we need to adapt. S.H.I.E.L.D. scientists are interested in creating a team of super agents, balanced perfectly with the relevant skill sets, that might be able to make a difference in this world. Their process has been adapt in identifying latent X-genes, as well as inhuman DNA markers. And in the case that the subject has neither, scientists are experimenting with the application of radiation to induce powers.
And while the formation of this team brings hope for the future - a warm light for all of mankind to share - it casts shadows. In those shadows, there are whispers of an old foe returning from the brink of extinction.

The Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division was founded in January of 1949 by Peggy Carter, Howard Stark, and Chester Philips. It absorbed the Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR) - the Allies' deep science agency that was responsible for the creation of the serum that turned Steve Rogers into Captain America. Following the conclusion of the war and the defeat of HYDRA, S.H.I.E.L.D. continued to monitor the world for catastrophic threats, as individuals with abilities and superior technology became more and more commonplace. The age of heroes had just begun - but so came the rise of villains.
In short, S.H.I.E.L.D. often deals with alien technology, superpowered individuals, and events that boggle the senses. Despite the agency's success in protecting the world since its founding, its failure to prevent the alien invasion of New York in 2012 and then the Altsoba Massacre (see the RP Abandoned Hope) prompted a defunding of the agency. Its budget was limited significantly and then given to O.M.E.N., a rival US intelligence and military agency. Fortunately, after O.M.E.N. attempted to kill the X-Men while the Mutant Registration Act was being debated in Congress, the rival organization was shut down and S.H.I.E.L.D. saw its funding restored.
Recruitment for S.H.I.E.L.D. can be fierce. Recruits usually have a college degree, but it is not required with the exception of Science and Technology, where candidates need at least one PhD to enter the building. Very few agents are trained 'on the job' but there are some scenarios in which this is the case. Additionally, individuals can be recruited for various initiatives without progressing through the academy, such as the Avengers Initiative. Its current director is Nick Fury and its primary headquarters, the Triskelion, is located in Washington D.C.
Our World
In this RP, we consider the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies up to and including the first Avengers film to be cannon. There are roleplays that have happened in this timeline as well, forming our own Roleplay Universe (please click here to see the full in depth lore guide for our multiverse). We primarily cross over with the RP hosted by @BlueSky44, X-Men: Darkness Rising, although you do not need to be a member of it to enjoy this RP! Think of it like watching Ant-Man. Sure, there are nods and small cameos from the other Marvel movies, but you can enjoy it perfectly fine as a standalone film.
Now, onto what you're all waiting for....Powers! In our universe, we have known that we were not alone in the world since 2012, due to the Incident. Aliens are real, powered individuals are possible, and almost anything seems to be possible.
Previously, any and all powers and abilities were simply referred to as deviances. If someone was perhaps a little odd, in that they could see things that others could not, perhaps that they could heal with a single touch, or that they were immune to flames, they were said to have a deviance. Years after the Altsoba Massacre, this definition was revoked and revised, as we realized that it is simply more complicated than that.
Mutants, also called homo superior, are powered individuals who gain their abilities due to an X-gene. This gene is something that is simply part of their genetic makeup from birth. It can be activated when the individual is subjected to great stress, often during puberty or traumatic moments. It's important to understand that while a mutant's powers can be called a mutation, they were born mutants. They did not mutate throughout the course of their lifetime.
Mutates are those who, as the name implied, mutated to gain powers. This is often due to the presence of electromagnetic radiation outside of the visible spectrum. Encounters with radioactive waste would certainly qualify. It is possible for those with an X-gene to mutate when exposed to radiation or other materials, but it is uncommon and also effectively 'neutralizes' the X-gene.
Inhumans, also called inhomo supremis, are individuals who are descended by unfortunate souls who were experimented on and had their genetic code modified. This unorthodoxy in genetics can be activated through a process called terringenesis, in which the inhuman emerges from something akin to a cocoon with newfound abilities and powers.
S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy
For this roleplay, all agents will have gone through one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s three academies. Each academy specializes in training recruits to become a certain type of agent. They all also have different entrance requirements. Students are not allowed to transfer between academies and retain their "placement" in graduation order - (i.e. if a second year at Communications transfers to Operations, they start over as a first year). It takes four years to graduate.
All cadets, regardless of their program, are required to take History of S.H.I.E.L.D. during their first year.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Communications is the largest of the Academies. Its curriculum focuses on data analysis, with a majority of its cadets going into positions where they monitor threats S.H.I.E.L.D. has identified around the world. Other examples of activities include monitoring for suspicious activity and cyberterrorism. Communications interacts the most with the other two academies and tends to be the easiest to enter.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Operations has the most aggressive program of the three school. To add to its formidable reputation, Operations also has the highest percentage of washouts due to the immense difficulty of the program. It isn't for the faint of heart. Specialists come from this program - one person who can effectively operate solo without back-up and get the job done. Field Agents are also trained here, although they integrate best into the structure of a team.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Science and Technology (often abbreviated to Sci-Tech) is the hardest academy to gain admission to. Each cadet has to have at least one PhD, with some having as many as two or three PhDs (although the fields of study tend to be incredibly similar). Students are prepared to assist S.H.I.E.L.D. through a scientific perspective, with most cadets ending up working in laboratories at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters. Some, however, will be assigned to a mobile unit in the field.

Rowland didn't hesitate to nod in affirmation to Cuyler's question. "Yes, I fear that it must be...I have no doubt that all of these events are connected, like a spider weaving a web that may ensnare the Castle in its entirely," he said in a low voice. He didn't want any of the panicked citizens around him to overhear and assume that it was the end of the world. Of course, Rowland would have been lying if he claimed to not believe that the Castle was in grave danger. It may have been the longest night of the year, yet Rowland felt certain that there was only more Darkenesse to come. Darke Magyk was swirling around them - or perhaps something new entirely - he was sure of it.
Puck gave his Deputy Hunter a bit of a devilish grin, appreciating the view as she walked up towards them. While he had every intention to make Valda his wife, he didn't wish to consummate their marriage. No, if he were to have a woman, he would want one grown and touched with madness. Such was the Deputy Hunter - Amarantha - Girl 526 as he still thought of her on occasion. He then caught his sister's eye, seeing Jadis smirk with satisfaction as Malekith was called forward. "Well, this is indeed a fortunate turn of events, my Queen," Puck commented. "We needed the head of a Port Witch - and here we have a volunteer!"
Asha the Magykal ignored the comments of politics, staring at Malekith with concentration as the Magykal energy continued to swirl around her. "Please, allow me to assist you," Arya said calmly. Asha nodded. MindReading was ExtraOrdinary level Magyk and Arya joined hands with her, the two of them chanting softly "Between the spells within our power, Give us one Harmonious Hour." The energy coming from both of them gave the air a purple shimmer, with Arya's amulet glowing softly just as Asha's did.
Eventually, Asha's eyes widened with horror and Arya's lips curled with displeasure, as they ended the spell. "He is not the one responsible for the abduction of Princess Luna..." Arya said softly. "But he has committed many grave crimes against humanity - murder and torture of innocents," Asha added, her voice with a slight accent to it. Seeing such Darkenesse in Malekith's mind had shaken her. Asha took a moment to calm herself and Arya put a hand on her back, having felt the same trauma and pain radiating throughout the Warlock's thoughts. Of course, it was directed towards others. They had just glimpsed into the mind of a monster.
"If he really is such a despicable man, then he should be executed," Puck urged. Jadis nodded in agreement. "The Port Witch Coven will always be at our throats, sweet Valda. He may not have abducted Princess Luna, yet I am certain that their Coven intends to CradleSnatch your sister...His death will be a clear message that that cannot be tolerated."
Emperor Taj rose from where he was sitting and went over to her sister, seeing the look of distress on Asha's face. Peter Wylie came to join them as well. He had noticed what Puck had - that Malekith would serve the purposes of pacifying the Empress Astris for the death of her sister. It didn't matter that it had been in self-defense. And as he stared at Malekith, he couldn't help but imagine that no one would miss such a man if he were to die in atonement for a crime he did not commit. "He will work, my Queen," Wylie said to Valda softly, nodding at Malekith.
"...What's happening to me..." Myrus whispered, sitting alone as he stared at his hands. It might have been the glint of the sun against his eyes, but they did not appear to be their normal shade anymore. They were almost tinted crimson. He held his hands his head and took deep breaths. It had to have been too much for him, the stress of losing his mother and now his sister being kidnapped. While he liked Valda, he had grown up with Luna. He doubted his mother would choose to Appear to him, but after they got Luna back, he had every intention of seeking out his mother's ghost. He knew where she would be - the Queen's Room, where she had to wait for a Year and a Day.
"Besides the Royal Family?" Nera asked, looking at Rhys quizzically. She had met him quite some time ago, although she had gone by a different name back then. Hardly anyone connected her with that name anymore. Rhys wouldn't be able to recognize Nera as being another one of the Hopefuls to be apprenticed to the ExtraOrdinary Wizard - although she would appear familiar. Marya and Medea rolled their eyes at the mention of using a secret door. Sure, the idea of a secret door was amusing to them - but it wasn't like escaping from this place was going to be particularly hard. They had gone to and from the Port in less than a second.
"Of course, it is up to you," Nera said graciously to Fleur. "We can ask the twins to get us home, though their abilities may cause some distraction in fleeing this mob...Or I can attempt to use Concilium on the Prince and have him escort us through the passageway that this gentleman has suggested."
"I'm sorry, but when did you become a parent?" Banner teased Tony quietly. From what Banner knew, Tony only really picked up the parenting slack once he became Iron Man. Before then, his parenting style was very sporadic - he'd send Guin away to boarding school, have Pepper and Happy handle the paperwork, and then randomly give her loads of attention when she was home. It didn't surprise Banner at all that with a childhood like that, Guin had ended up turning out to be a little female Tony. He was honestly just waiting for the day she showed up to an Avengers meeting and insisted that she was going to replace her father as Iron Man.
"Hey, my dad's not that bad of a parent," Guin quipped at Banner, partially defending Tony. Banner's eyes flickered over to Lance again, but he didn't say anything. He knew that he himself really was that bad of a parent, but there wasn't much he could do about it. The more he tried, the more things seemed to just get worse. He didn't want to put Lance through any emotional pain period - and if his attempts at being a parent were what was causing it...then Banner didn't want to push it.
"You know, Bruce, you aren't that bad of a parent either - you and I are getting plenty of practice having to parent Tony," Pepper joked. "I think we know everything not to do at this point."
"It was perfectly safe and that was five years ago or something!" Guin protested. She doubted Lance was ever going to let that one go. He didn't seem to realize how cool the blaster had been - and what a great challenge of engineering it had been for her to make it! Hardly any other twelve year olds knew how to make blasters. They didn't even know the difference between resistors in parallel or in series! They wouldn't be able to wire a circuit if their lives depended on it! If she ever had kids - and she really did not plan on that ever happening - she would want them to have basic competency with at least one field of engineering before they started high school. Anything less and she'd be letting them down.
Guin walked into the kitchen, just in time to hear her father going on about his ego. "Yeah, just doesn't have the same ring to it as When Captain America throws his mighty shield... Though I guess - When Iron Man flexes his huge ego... isn't too terrible," she chimed in. Captain had been the world's first superhero and even though he was "dead" at the time, they had made a cartoon about him in the 90's. Guin still got the song stuck in her head occasionally. Whenever Steve was around, she made sure to play it when he entered the room. It was even set as his ringtone and as far as Guin knew, he hadn't figured out how to change it yet.
Banner looked up as Lance came into the room, unable to not smile slightly. His eyes flickered towards his newspaper but then they went right back up to his son. He knew he ought to say something to Lance, but he wasn't really sure what to do. "Hi, buddy....You sleep okay?" Banner asked softly, figuring it'd be better than his usual silence. Pepper, meanwhile, frowned a bit at Guin when she saw the rats' nest that was her sort-of stepdaughter's hair. "Guin, please take a comb to your hair or something. You look like you were raised by Tony."
Virginia watched as Elizaveta seemed to transfer some of her energy and vitality into Mary's horse, with Mary then insisting upon later returning the favor with the tiger. She could not help but smile slightly at the exchange. It was so much nicer than the empty pleasantries often exchanged in London society. Rather than a kindness just for politics, it was something real and purposed. Of course, she also was fascinated by the range of Russian skills. She knew a skill herself for increase endurance, but it only worked on herself. Perhaps if she had known a healing skill, she could have helped Mosi to cheat the Reaper.
Her thoughts drifted to Mosi for a moment. Veliona would be with her - Virginia felt certain of it. And Death was nothing more than a grand adventure. Her good friend would be enjoying herself thoroughly, no matter what trials awaited her in the afterlife. She accepted Mary's hand as they walked to the inn, knowing that some sustenance would help to sustain her and allow her greater focus in her attempts to seek out the trail that led to Millicent. Her mind then snapped to attention as she heard rumors of a Soulless attack. Even if they had simply been traveling for holiday, it would have been something Virginia would have wished to pursue. She adored stories of the Soulless.
Mary beat her to the chase, however, asking what had happened. "What Soulless appeared in the attack?" Virginia inquired, incredibly curious to know if the Soulless in Manchester had also been different than what they viewed to be the norm for the British isles. "And of those with abilities who fought - who were they?" she added, wondering if Millicent had been present.
Maeve Brennan

Maeve kept her outward expression cool and collected as she took a seat. However, she couldn't help but see a reflection of her current situation in Lady Kirkpatrick's tales of her youth. When Maeve wasn't busy playing spy, she acted as a bartender at the Brennan Family Bar - which itself served as a front for the actual line of work they were in. There were hardly any female members in gangs, at least in Maeve's experience, but she was allowed a near equal voice and say in what they did. Besides, the family looked out for each other and they were good to Roisin. They could have turned her and Roisin out after her husband died, but they hadn't.
"They jist accept whatever they see - withoyt questionin' what it actually is," Maeve agreed, taking her own cup of tea. Part of her had to wonder if Lady Kirkpatrick was onto her - and what she'd do if she found out that Maeve had been sent to spy on Lady Kirkpatrick's family. Of course, Maeve wasn't beyond betraying the 'Father' and his family if that was what it took. As long as she got the money to send Roisin to the best school for the deaf that she could, Maeve hardly cared where the money came from. She looked out for her own - and that was it.
"Oi'm sorry if this is too blunt, me lady, but 'ow ye git into that line av work?" Maeve couldn't help but ask. She could hardly imagine a noblewoman making spirits in secrecy. Maybe if they had gotten bored, sure, but she was beginning to feel a bit skeptical as to what she had assumed about Lady Kirkpatrick's background and history.

Nancy didn't even really stop to think about how to answer Sophia's questions. She lived and preached going by instinct, just doing whatever seemed good at the moment - of leaping before looking. While some may have thought it was a miracle she had survived so long, Nancy likely had the Cards to thank for that. Her chaotic impulses had the minor guiding influence of getting glimpses at the future - knowing where the fun would happen and where misery would be the only outcome. Was it contradictory? Yes - but such was the Emendator called the Cards. "Yes, but it's more that the guests entertain us," Nancy said with a smirk. "And saving the world, playing hero, that sort of thing...I mostly like the change of pace. Gets the blood pumping and all. Life can be so dreadfully boring here..."
She had indeed gone lost in her own thoughts as they walked, her mind drifting back to her time spent in the age of Vikings. She was really a bit disappointed that they hadn't gotten anyone that followed the Norse tradition in this round of Paradoxes, from what she had seen. She always looked forward to their reaction, realizing that Loki had been a small woman all along - and of course that she wasn't evil. She enjoyed mischief and chaos, though she still served the greater good - it was her calling as an Emendator. In some ways, she found the portrayal of Loki in a 21st century film called Thor Ragnarok to be the most true to who she was. And yes, there was the entire debate over whether she had inspired the myth of Loki or if she had merely been mistaken for the trickster god, and at this point, Nancy found it pointless to try to figure out which had come first. It was like the chicken and the egg - who cared?
"Real blood works too," Nancy said with a smirk. It wasn't like she needed to worry about blood borne pathogens.
Andromeda Aldrich

The kids were silent for a moment, before they resumed their questions. "How did you end up here, then?" Andromeda thought for a moment, her mind flickering through everything that had happened. She didn't know if she should go into detail what had led her to be there - though she supposed it all began with the grisly murder of her father. It had put her on the path that caused her to die....Or perhaps it was those nights stargazing with her mother, believing that anything could be out there in the universe, if she just looked hard enough to find it.
"I'm an adventurer," she finally told the children with a slight smile. "I like to look for things that other people won't notice - what normal people will just think is a bit odd or scary...Because there's always something beautiful there that you just haven't seen. My mother did this too - she liked to look up at the stars, imagining that their could be life out there, just like you and me...That we aren't alone in this world."
"What did you look for?"
"At first, I wanted to look in the stars too for something extraordinary...But then I realized that there are incredible things here, on this planet. So I traveled wherever I could, seeing so many things - I went to New Zealand once, saw a creature that could shapeshift and ate people whole! And I met a powerful old witch who could do amazing things with magic...A little girl who could see the future...A woman who was a fallen angel."
"So what are you looking for here then?" one of the kids asked. The rest of them looked scared and enthralled with her story.

Iris nodded a bit nervously, getting out of the car with Barney. She was mildly afraid of him but her gut was telling her that she could trust him. They both wanted the same thing, after all - for Cynthia to be safe and healthy. Or at least, that was the impression she was getting from him. The side arm freaked her out slightly, but she supposed it was wise that he had one. Civilians didn't carry guns in England. It was still something that she was getting used to in the United States. Of course, Iris doubted she'd ever get used to it. Every report of a shooting she heard on the news only made her a little more confused as to why Americans were so attached to their guns.
She bit her lip slightly, looking around at all of the chaos. She turned her gaze for one moment and the next thing she knew, Barney was running at full speed. She didn't even hesitate before running after him, figuring that he had spotted or heard something that she hadn't. Iris was beginning to regret not having learned Russian - it would have been quite useful. However, eventually she noticed what Barney had been going after, looking up to see a helicopter taking off with three blondes in it. "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD MORNING VIETNAM~!" Jaina giggled, waving down at the doctor and Barney. She even blew Barney a kiss.
Iris was a bit stunned. "A helicopter..." she mumbled, before she headed back with Barney towards the car. She then got into the car with him, nodding slightly. He was taking action towards finding them - something that as much as she respected Agent Tinder, he hadn't exactly done. And sure, Iris had just met Barney and perhaps it was naive of her...But she felt that she could trust him. He was dangerous, yes, but so were her patients. "Where would they have gone?" Iris asked, buckling herself up.
