Hello! I'm MsMorningstar, or Momo for short. I'm a college student in my early twenties, located in the Western United States. I have a deep appreciation for memes and vines (RIP Vine), so if you're a wandering soul feel free to drop a couple in my visitor messages. I like loom knitting, and I used to be a big reader but haven't touched a book in a while since I've been writing. I love procedural cop dramas, my favorite being Criminal Minds, though I guess it's technically a procedural FBI agent drama. Everything else I'm into, I'll tack on in a different section. I'm a big fan of RPing, though I do tend to fade in and out. Luckily, I've made some friends here who've helped me sink my hooks into the forum. Speaking of which, I'd like to give them their own section.

If you're uninterested in me rambling about these amazing guild members, feel free to move on to the next section.
  • @NorthernKraken: I knew I had to start with this lovely, Texan woman. She's definitely one of the brightest people I know. There's a reason why people come to her daily seeking help and advice. She pushes me to do what I love, even when I don't want to. For this, I'm extremely grateful. Thank you, Goblin Queen.
  • @c3p-0h: The coolest cool kid around, by far. Not to mention, the nothingness that will eventually swallow up our universe. Cep, even though you're way too awesome for me you somehow make me feel amazing. Your compliments really lift me up, and I hope someday I can repay you for all your kindness. Also, you gave me my nickname, and I'm eternally grateful.
  • @Damo021: You've been my buddy since the beginning of Red Hoods. Even if our characters don't end up together, they're still my OTP. Thank you for always offering to help me, and chatting with me about everything and anything.
  • @Almalthia: You've been off living your life and being the responsible adult I wish I was, and I commend you for that. Doesn't mean I don't miss you like hell, though. You're the best mom older sister ever, and I eagerly await the moments when you're online.
  • @RedVII: My honorary brother. I feel like I could talk to you about anything, so I usually do. You understand me when others don't, and I'll never stop being weird alongside you. You're the strangest person, and that's what makes you wonderful.
  • @ZAVAZggg: You're the angstiest EdgeLord I know, but I appreciate everything about you. You keep me in check, in a way not many others are capable of. You're always scheming, and I'm pretty sure you have a ten-step plan for world domination. Despite this, you've proven to be an amazing GM, and a great friend.
  • @Senhara: Screm

I listed a few of these in my About Me Section, but I'll list them again.
  • Reading: Fantasy, mystery, drama, romance, etc.
  • Loom Knitting
  • Anime: AoT, Soul Eater, Seven Deadly Sins, Kakegurui.
  • Television: Criminal Minds, Lucifer, Black Mirror.

Escape.

Escape was detrimental.

Stagnation was a killer. Every second she wasted was another second gifted to Samael. She knew this, she had made a promise to herself.

So why couldn't she move?

Was it the air here? So much thicker, it tasted dirty. Tainted. Like it needed to be run through a filter. Breathing it in was like snorting paste. And yet, it was still more refreshing than the air of the battlefield. The scent of blood, decay, all amplified by the rain. She shook it away, forcing back the thought, the hideous realization that she had been slipping around in the gore left behind by her fellow hoods. That their bits and pieces, their blood, was stuck to her skin.

It hadn't bothered her when the blood belonged to her Father, though, had it?

No, no, no. Not her father, not again. He was just a stain, a bloodied stain burned to ash and spread in the nearest ditch. She had made sure of it, he would not be coming back.

Only in her nightmares.

She wanted to move. She needed a drink.

Fingers, groping at her side, the movement was so fluid. Instinctual. There was nothing there, her flask was gone.

Teeth, grinding together slowly. A heaving breath, hands digging through hair. A low, garbled whine. She must've looked mad, doubling over just enough for a throbbing pain to spike in her side. Straightening, she gripped the air, dragging it down to her thighs in a fit.

The worst part? She wasn't present for it, she was only doing it. Going through the motions. She just needed to move! If she moved, she could find Samael. If she moved, she could get a drink.

Choppy breaths, blazing eyes. She forced a step forward. And another, another after that. She took methodical steps, until finally she broke into a casual stride. She could act normal. She had to act normal. Samael was probably watching her, laughing. Who wouldn't be amused by a woman going through a breakdown?

Her steps lead her to a gate, a scissor gate that was gleaming orange beneath the glow of two street lamps. Almost without thought, Eliza dug into her knapsack. She retrieved a charm, one of the last she had. Peered down at it, turning it over in her hand.

With a maniacal cry, she launched it at the gate, straight at the lock that was binding the two lengths of folding metal. In midair, the charm shifted, becoming a large chunk of earth.

The gate broke, and with it went a solid portion of Eliza's anger. Breaking things felt good.

But did it really? Yes.

It felt good, in the same way breaking her father had felt good. Even in the moments after, until Colin found her, and she felt guilty. But everyone needed a guilty pleasure, right?

Wrong. Right? She didn't know anymore. She just needed to walk.

And so she walked, down the grainy, albeit smooth stretch of outdoor flooring. She walked until she heard the chime of a bell, and pressed herself flat against the wall of the nearest building. One of the ones that stretched into the sky. One of the ones that was covered in windows, windows filled with lights.

She waited, breath catching in her throat, as the sound of the bell came closer. And closer. Then stopped, then started again. Then stopped.

Goddess, the bell was teasing her.

Finally, she broke away from the wall, peering around the corner. The sight that filled her eyes left her face scrunched with surprise.

A dog. Not of any breed that she had ever seen before, but a dog nonetheless. It was small, covered in tufts of white fur from head to toe. The fur looked so soft. Around its neck was a bell, tied to it by a handkerchief. It laid eyes upon her as well, and for a moment, Eliza crumpled under the weight of desire.

She wanted to pet the dog.

Crouching down, the dog immediately raced forward, prancing with paws lifting up in exaggerated motions. She allowed it to sniff her hand, a hoarse giggle escaping her as it licked her palm.

Scooping the small creature up into her arms, Eliza slouched against a building, marveling at the puppy. She had never met one so friendly. She stood there for a time, stroking the creature's fur and letting it writhe in her hands excitedly.

She was almost too enamored to catch the light. The clicking and whistling, the calling of a name. Bongo. The dog seemed to writhe more furiously at the sound. Eliza considered rushing to the other side of the building, but by the time she moved it was too late.

A beam of light hit the side of her face, and she froze. She glanced to her side, catching the eye of a relieved man in a similar outfit to her own.

"Oh, thank fuck, you found my dog!"

For many moments, for whole lifetimes, Eliza was just a ripple. A passing breeze. The odd, feathery touch that sends shivers down one's spine. She was the familiar stranger in the corner of someone's vision, that disappeared upon a second glance.

Briefly, she was spread into nothingness, becoming a fragile part of the all-encompassing void. Just as suddenly, she was mashed together, a boneless lump of molten flesh and gore.

She felt nothing, was numb to it all and somehow present for every moment of it. It was as if she were seeing it from an onlooker's point of view. Perhaps she was. After all, she hadn't a clue where her eyes were during all of this.

It was an experience for the history books, truly. It was a moment where she was all, and she was nothing. It was like being carried through a dream by Felicity. In this dream, though, she was the interpreter. For a moment, she was enlightened.

Then, she was coughed out.

"'Liza, I'm home!" Ethaniel called, a merry lilt to his tone. His short, casual strides carried him to their small kitchen, where he paused and popped his head into the alcove that housed their dining table.

Eliza wasn't there, working on her charms as he had told her to. A lump of clay remained on the table, untouched. That meant she was somewhere else, doing Mother knows what. Assumptions traveled like lightning through Ethaniel's mind, very few of which soothing.

For all he knew, she could have been taking a nap in her room. She had been acting more sluggish lately. On the other hand, she could be terrorizing the next village over. Her newfound, violent tendencies were becoming more of a pain to deal with. Every hex thrown his way was another waste of energy on both their parts. She was too weak to harm him, and he was too weakhearted to punish her properly.

Perhaps, in another life, he would've thrown her out. Abandoned her on the streets with a bit of money, just so she could drink herself to death. Maybe this darker version of himself would have abused the inkling of loyalty that was bubbling up within her, just as her father had. Trashed her, completely and utterly. It wouldn't have been hard. No one would take the time to mourn her ruination. To most, she was scum.

But not to him.

For the short time they had known each other, she had made a great impression upon him. Whenever her mood swings weren't weighing her down, he caught glimpses of her true persona. She was compassionate, despite her past misfortunes, or perhaps because of them. Her truest self was eager. Eager for love, and joy, and someone who could take care of her in the way her mother and father hadn't. He wanted to be that person. More than that. He wanted to see her succeed, if not because he cared, then because he wished to be the person behind someone else's success.

He would get her there, past boundaries she didn't even know she had.

To begin that process, though, he had to find her.

One-by-one, he checked her room, then the oversized study that dwarfed the rest of the house, then the garden outside. If she was around, there was only one other place she could be.

Creeping into his room, he let a curse loose under his breath as he laid eyes upon her. She sat in the corner of his quarters, staring up at him with wide, apologetic eyes. They were glossed over, and unfocused.

In her arms, she cradled a bottle of wine that was almost empty.

"How long was I gone?" His tone was accusatory, and when she flinched back, he realized it may have been overly so.

"An...hour?" Eliza replied, blinking every second, as she repeatedly lost focus.

"Was that long enough to drain an entire bottle of wine on your own?" He kept his tone inquisitive, light. He didn't want to put too much blame on her in this state, they'd have to talk more when she sobered up.

"No...but--" She cut herself off, nibbling on her lower lip as tears welled in her eyes. "P-Please don't throw me out!" Her slurs came out beside soft sobs.

Ethaniel quickly shook his head, throwing up his hands defensively. "Eliza, I wouldn't abandon you." His affirmation seemed to do its job, as her tremors slowed significantly. "I just don't know why you've done this to yourself, that's all."

"I have...haven't, I haven't been myself. I keep getting so...so angry and I-I can't take it anymore!" Her tone was louder than before, though still incoherent. She stared down at her hands, past the bottle folded gently between her arms. In a pathetic fit, she shook them, clutching her twitching fingers.

Ethaniel sighed, continuing his approach. At last, he crouched down beside her. She stared up at him, wide-eyed. Pooling tears fell in rapid streams down her face. "Eliza, would you like to know what I think?"

"Yes, Ethaniel." She replied, after a few moments of blatant processing.

"I think I can handle the crying, and the anger, and having to force you out of bed in the morning, because I know you're worth the effort." He paused, reaching out to take hold of the wine bottle. She clung to it momentarily, before relinquishing it to him. "What I can't handle is seeing you like this. Drunk and slurring each word, deprecating yourself. This?" He shook the bottle, making sure she focused on it for a solid moment. "This isn't a solution, it is a cause. Until you're able to learn that, you will keep falling back on this 'miracle cure'. You'll do it 'till you die."

He stood, letting his telekinesis take the bottle to the other side of the room. Holding out a hand, he offered her a way up. "Do you want to die, Eliza?"

Eliza didn't have to consider this. The answer was clear enough. "N-No!"

"Then don't continue to force death upon yourself. Get up, Eliza."

Get up, Eliza.

Get up...

Get up...

Get up!

Eliza sucked in a sharp breath, the simple act causing a vicious stabbing pain in her side. She hissed, clutching her side with numb fingers. Slowly, she sat up, strained muscles pulling at the movement.

How long had she been asleep? A hand shot to the mud caking her face. It was dry. A glance at the sky informed her that it wasn't raining. How far had they traveled, exactly? It didn't matter. She'd make her way back home eventually. For now, she had to get her bearings. This place, wherever it was, was a haven for Samael. That meant she wasn't safe. Not yet, at least.

Pulling herself to her feet unsteadily, she took her first look at her surroundings. What she saw amazed her.

Up in the sky were thousands of lights. Like stars, but hung in midair. They didn't twinkle, staying firm in their nigh orange coloration. And they were so close, closer than any star she had ever seen. It was as if she could touch them. Perhaps she could, in this foreign place. Once the mission was done, she would make a point out of approaching these wondrous lights. For now, though, she had to focus on the task at hand.

A row of tall evergreen trees about three hundred yards away surrounded her, the thick boughs interlocking and creating a wall that was difficult to see beyond. She shook off the feeling of entrapment, continuing her sweep. A fine brick building was only a short distance away, made up in a style of architecture Eliza hadn't witnessed before. Upon seeing it, Eliza tensed. It was more than likely that this building housed her enemy. Were the others already within? She couldn't hear any sort of commotion...perhaps they were already dead.

Eliza patted the sheath where her dagger had been, scowling as she recalled it being thrown from her hand. She'd have to rely on her magic, which was practically nonexistent against someone of Samael's caliber.

Creeping toward the building, she willed adrenaline to come to her aid. None joined the battle, however, leaving her stranded. She could feel just how sluggish she was. By the time she had approached the building, she had stopped trying to be stealthy. At this point, Samael knew she was coming. It was only a matter of when, she supposed.

Walking around the building, she searched for an entrance. There was only one, in what she presumed to be the front. Surrounding the door was two large windows, a peek inside revealed to her racks of clothing in bright fabrics and strange designs. Things one could only find in Sinstead, though the makeups were foreign to her, and this was certainly not the crowded city of debauchery.

Gritting her teeth, Eliza pulled on the plain silver doorknob, marveling as it opened easily for her. She had been expecting some form of resistance. Then again, Samael gave off the image of a cocky asshole. Stepping inside, she tried to leave the door hanging open. As if by magic, though, it swung closed slowly behind her.

Samael had to be there.

"Samael!" Eliza called, throwing all caution to the wind. For a few moments, she waited. When no one popped out of the darkness, she began searching the premises. Finding...nothing.

Absolutely. Fucking. Nothing.

Doors marked with the words 'MEN' and 'WOMEN' lead her to rooms full of curtains hanging on metal rods, all of which guarding empty alcoves. Around the main room that she had walked into there were strange pieces of merchandise made of clear or semi-transparent material Eliza had never before seen. It was hard to the touch, but when she put her hand behind it she could see through it. The clothes on the racks felt so very soft, in colors brighter than she could ever have imagined from fabric.

While this was all well and good, Eliza was extremely disappointed. After all, Samael was nowhere to be found, there were no ghouls or the dead bodies of those who had jumped in before her. It was just an empty shop of some sort. Eliza concluded that they had all been dropped off at different locations. An advanced portal trick, but one Samael could surely pull off.

Taking advantage of what she had been blessed with, Eliza stripped out of her clothing. Reluctantly, she abandoned her yellow hood, which was little more than a tattered piece of fabric stained with blood and dirt. She traded it out for the strange soft clothing, picking out a black outfit with leggings that hugged her body like a second skin and an overly-thick, hooded blouse that draped over her body like a blanket. It didn't combat the itching on her flesh from the mud she had rolled in, but it was comfortable and nondescript.

Leaving the shop behind, she stepped into the cool night. She stared, for a moment at the evergreen trees surrounding her. Then, at the strange lights in the distance. Samael was out there, somewhere.

She swore to herself that she would find him.

Collab Between: Thane Whitlock @Argetlam350 & Violet Benoit @MsMorningstar

It was rare for Violet to get lost in thought, but in the moments before she bumped into a stranger, she was adrift. She could still hear Vince in the back of her mind, repeating himself over and over again.

’Why can’t you just move on?’

Was it true? Was she stuck?

She couldn’t stand the thought. It was too brutal, too real. It put the blame on herself, something she had always had trouble with. There was a subtle pounding in the back of her head, one that struck upon mental confrontations such as these. She couldn’t will it away, not this time. She had to face it.

A warm body against her own, for just a moment, and the pulsations were gone. With it, all signs of progress. At least for the time being.

She blinked, her mind clearing as she took in the subtle stench of alcohol and blood. She recoiled on instinct, her body tensing. Her gaze leveled on a scar etched across the face of a seemingly apologetic man. Was he human? It wandered down to a crooked nose, the remnants of blood still remaining in the cracks of his face. Who had he been fighting?

”No worries, man…” She cleared her throat. ”You good?” She nearly cursed herself for asking, struggling to keep a soft, inquisitive look on her face. Why would she ever ask that? She should have just stepped around him and doubled back toward her apartment.

Thane gave a curt nod before giving a light chuckle at her question, remembering how he looks.”Oh yeah, haven’t really looked in a mirror myself but I’ll be fine, just need to rest later. Guess that’s at least one perk having wolf blood,” Thane states wondering how the woman would react. He hardly cared on who knew what he was but it was always interesting to see a reaction. Most seemed to back away before running as if they were on fire, few stuck around. If the way he felt matched his looks though, he couldn’t really blame her for running in terror, he probably looked like some homicidal creep and that’s not including how his handsome face was all ready scarred.

“Anyways, the thing that counts I’m still prettier than the other guy for the most part under all the mess. Name’s Thane,” he said to hopefully shake off any doubts about him if she decided not to panic at him being a werewolf.
Violet took a casual step back, giving herself a bit more room on the increasingly more likely chance that this guy--Thane, decided to attack her. She wondered what had happened to the other guy. Was it her civic duty to find out? She could, but she was wary about risking her hide.

”Ah,” She said, ”So, you usually wander around all casual after getting into fights?” She made no mention of her own name, even though he could probably track her down on scent alone if he decided.

Thane shrugged.”Not usually but I’m not tired so figured I’d take a bit of a walk, and the fight was mutual. Just wolves fighting wolves. It’s therapeutic really,” He replied remaining where he was while feeling his face and realigning his nose as he attempted to explain the state he was in.”Ouch, should of fixed that earlier, but back on topic. Hard to really explain it to normies but sometimes a little fight helps. Can’t exactly go hunting in the big city whenever. Well we could if we had a death wish but I for one prefer living instead of a silver bullet. So it helps calm that inner beast for those of us stuck with the city life, an alternative instead of always being stuck with a cage when the full moon comes around.” He did his best to explain but he couldn’t be sure if she understood. To wolves it was simple but others found it baffling wanting to get into a fight for the sake of it.

“Pretty much all I can say. Fights aren’t exactly legal. If I didn’t look like shit I probably wouldn’t have said anything,” he finished “Guess that’s everything lass. Again sorry for the run in and looking like hell.”

There was just...so much to unpack there. A bit too much, if Violet was being honest with herself. She didn’t even know why she was entertaining this guy. Why hadn’t she left when she heard the bone of his nose cracking back into place? She always ended up around the weirdos.

Nodding at last, she pulled out her phone. ”Let me just...call you an Uber?” She bit her lower lip, staring at all the messages and missed calls she had for a moment. Sighing, she cleared the logs. ”Maybe I’m stupid, but you seem a little drunk…” She could only begin to imagine how Duncaster’s police force would react to this guy.

Thane shook his head.”You’re took kind lass but I’ll be fine plus even with a broken nose I can tell you aren’t particularly enjoy my company. So I’ll just be getting out of your hair Ms. No Name before I do something stupid. I may stumble about but I’ll find my way back to my own den and be better in the morning.”Without waiting for a response he tried to back away from the woman spinning around only to be greeted by a stray lamp post.”Oh bloody hell there goes the nose again. Going to look like damn Voldemort after tonight.”, he grumbled falling back onto the cold concrete of the sidewalk, looking up into what little sky could be seen from the city streets and the mocking light of the light post ”,Guess I’m too late to avoid the something stupid thing I mentioned about. Should of stayed at ‘The Pits’.”

Violet sucked in a sharp breath, biting her tongue to avoid laughing or cursing at his expense. Tapping the keys of her phone, she quickly ordered a nearby Uber, before moving to crouch beside Thane.

”Get in the car when it comes, ‘kay?” Her voice left no room for argument. ”You’re going straight home.” She felt like her mother, but she didn’t necessarily care.

It only took three minutes for the car to pull up along the side of the street. The man driving took one look at the pair on the sidewalk and let loose a tired sigh. He was evidently expecting a large tip.

Slipping her arms under Thane’s pits, Violet took a steady breath, attempting to heave him up. God, he reeked. ”C’mon dude, help me out here.”

Any other time Thane would have argued against complying with the request but with a wounded pride and the alcohol kicking in more he simply gave a nod and waited laying there, not bothering to get up until it arrived. He definitely was going to regret drinking as much as he had in the morning. He did his best to help the woman as she attempted to pick him up. He stumbled his way into the car, not thrilled of the confined space but at least the world had stopped spinning.

”Thanks,” he mumbled before leaning forward to give the driver the address of where he lived figuring it best to just do what the woman said instead of trying to take it back to where he came from.

Violet stayed outside the car, watching the man for a few silent moments before she closed the door and shut him out of her life. The car slowly pulled away, taking Thane with it. She could only hope he would make his way home, rather than wandering the streets drunkenly.

Once the car was far out of sight, Violet continued on her path, unsure of what else would find her.

Five Months Ago

"Ya ever wish you were somethin' else?"

Violet peeled the side of her forehead off the cool passenger window, twisting to glance at her brother. She watched as his lips tugged up into a soft smile, and reluctantly decided to humor him. "Like what?"

"'Like what?'" He replied, his tone mocking. "What do ya think I mean, Viola?" Before Violet could respond, or scold him for calling her Viola, he continued. "I mean like a werewolf, or a vampire, or a wizard or something!"

Violet scowled, still a bit bitter over the childhood nickname. Pushing past her irritation, she shrugged. "Maybe a werewolf?" She had always been fascinated by their ability to transform from seemingly regular humans into those giant, powerful creatures, even if they were ugly as all hell.

"A werewolf? Really? You're already mad enough, and now you want to tack that onto it?" Her brother snorted, raising a brow in disbelief. He kept his eyes on the road, guiding the plain black lemon they called a vehicle through the winding valleys.

Violet threw up her hands, her anger bubbling up once more. This time, though, she let it trickle out. "Dude, can you stop? Every time we talk you try to start something." They were almost home, and she didn't want to be in a bad mood when they got to the house.

"See, there it is!" Vince chuckled, his smile only growing. When Violet didn't respond, it slowly settled into a grimace. He glanced over at her slumped frame, and took a hand off the wheel to prod her. "Oh, c'mon, Vi," He poked her again at her continuous lack of a response, eyes focused on his twin rather than the asphalt. "I'm sorry."

"Vince, watch the road." She mumbled, smacking away his hand.

"I will, when you accept my apol-"

The next few moments of Violet's life were a blur. As if they had collided with a brick wall, her body slammed forward. Her seatbelt, something she had always thought would protect her in an accident, snapped. She flew through the windshield, her body limp in the air as she collided with the pavement. Flesh tore from her arms, legs, and chest as she slid four feet, the friction burning away at her. She felt it all, every bit of pain. Her eyes closed, her open mouth dripping blood. As she slipped into unconsciousness, a single thought filled her mind.

She was alive.

A set of beatific twins stared eagerly at their birthday cake. Across the fluffed white top, the words 'Happy B-Day, Vi-Vi!', were scrawled in neon blue icing. As the short song came to a close, they leaned forward in unison to blow out the nineteen lit candles. Every year, the same routine.

Every year, the family roared their approval over the ritual. So loud that Violet's neighbor would likely put forth another noise complaint. A picture was taken to immortalize the day. The cake was promptly torn apart, and once everyone received a slice, the twins were allowed to cut the act.

For a few moments, Violet lingered beside Vince, watching him out of the corner of her eye. She opened her mouth. Nothing came out. Inevitably, she slipped out of her seat and wandered toward her bedroom. Family members stopped her along the way for simple chatting, but each conversation only lasted a few minutes before she cut them off, saying she was tired.

Ever since the accident, it was rare for her to be called out when she made her escape.

Closing the door to her room, she shuffled toward her bed. With a dull thump, she collapsed face-down against her comforter. Shimmying, she crawled further into the mountain of blankets she hadn't bothered to fold.

For a few, blissful moments, all was silent. She was trapped in a world without thought, one where she was safe from confrontation.

A knock ripped the fantasy to shreds.

Without a word from Violet, the door swung open. Vince stepped in, closing the door behind himself and taking tentative steps toward the bed.

In the past, Vince had been welcome in her home, her room. Now, though?

"Get out," She grumbled, not bothering to face him. She had known it was him since the moment his cologne had filled her precious space. She had picked it out for him when they were seventeen, told him his girlfriend would love it. He'd been wearing it ever since.

"Vi, I..." He faltered, something she was beginning to get used to. It was always so casual between them before, even though most of their conversations became arguments. Now, he stepped lightly, couldn't even begin to dip his toe into the water. It was like he was afraid of her.

"You what?" She asked, her tone inquisitive rather than biting.

"I can...do you need me to leave?" At this, she twisted, sitting up straight.

"So I can look like the selfish asshole again?" She asked, staring at him. Expectantly, she waited for him to excuse himself.

To her surprise, he didn't.

"I'm trying my best, Violet. I'm trying to fix things, to be here for you. I'm trying to do what you want. Why can't you just..." His fingers were fluttering at his sides, eventually balling into fists.

"Why can't you just move on?"

"Move on? I was in that fucking hospital for weeks, and it took three months before you even called me!" Her voice, while bitter, was hushed. She didn't want her family to hear her.

Vince took a step forward, and Violet rose to her feet to match him. "And I've told you a dozen times since then how sorry I am. Want me to say it again? I'm sorry, Violet. I'm sorry that I wasn't there for you."

"You think I care about your sorries? You abandoned me! You don't even check up on me unless Mom tells you to. You-"

Mid-sentence, the colors began to appear. They usually did whenever she talked about the accident. It was a sure source of stress.

She gripped her head, willing them away. Rather than fading, the eery glow around Vince's body only brightened. Even through her eyelids, she could see it. She needed to calm down before she got nauseous.

"Go away, Vince." She demanded, and when he didn't leave, she picked up her phone, grabbed her jacket and purse, and stormed out the room. As she fled, the colors brightened, an overwhelming Aura around every human in her household. Her head began to spin, and drool pooled in her mouth, bile rising up her throat.

It always got worse before it got better.

Without bothering to explain, she left her apartment. The hallway was empty, and as she walked toward the elevator she felt the tension in her shoulders begin to lessen. By the time she made it out onto the streets, the colors had long since faded. Still, she was wary about going back to her home.

So, she began to walk.

Lizette's day had been rather...dull, so far. It was all routine at this point. It had been since the moment she turned sixteen, and acquired a job. She woke up at five o'clock in the morning, every morning, whether it was for school or work. Blasted music, took a shower, and got prepared for the day. The daily commute was perhaps the most invigorating moment of her day. She was able to sing to high heaven in her beater, which got her nerves calmed for the long, boring busywork that was the Coffee Pot. When she had arrived at six, she put on her apron without a hint of irritation, and went through the motions. She cleaned the coffee pots, exchanged the filters, filled the caramel without sneaking any, got the pastries in the oven, and took up her spot at the cash register.

Of course, through it all, she kept up a gentle smile. What kind of server would she be, otherwise? Shooting people down with harsh looks in the early morning was the absolute worst idea. It lead to sour days, and sour days lead to a lack of customers. At least, that was what had been instilled in her mind when she worked at the cafe back in Reno.

She recalled those days clearly. Without any prior experience, she had snagged a job as a waitress. It was seven dollars an hour, which she felt was extraordinary. Every weekend, and each weekday after school, she worked until ten o'clock in the evening. Ten to twelve was her time to do homework and study, then she collapsed after double checking that her alarm was on. Sometimes, it would be her mother who'd wake her, twenty minutes before her alarm did the job. Those were her favorite days, because she had precisely fifteen minutes after she inevitably woke up to chat with her mother before they both went their separate ways. Her mom would tell her she was proud, happy to see her baby doing so well...it was, endearing. It made it all worth it, in her opinion. Even when she went to school the same day and got into an argument with one of the other girls over something stupid, and her brother would join in, and they'd all end up sat outside the principal's office.

Now, though, she didn't have that kind of tension. No one in college picked on her. They were all too busy with their own lives to do so, and she acted a lot more friendly than she did in high school. Seeing as her scholarship was renewed every year based on her actions at Solaris, she had to keep up the good work. Although she was glad about the lack of fighting, she missed the other aspects of her home life. Her brother, most of all. He had joined the military, and was traveling all the time. So much so, that she sometimes wasn't even able to call him. They had certainly gone their separate ways...and at times, that could hurt. She found herself frowning, and quickly schooled her features into something more neutral, bordering on happy.

It was with this expression that she met one of her last customers of the day. She got off at two o'clock, despite always petitioning for overtime. Unfortunately, the person who was taking over her shift had arrived, which meant she couldn't get those extra hours she desired. Asking the tall man before her what he wanted, she grinned as he said a large black coffee and a plain bagel. Wow, she wished everyone was that simple. Fulfilling his request, she charged him and sent him off in just around two minutes. Returning to the register, she gave the next man a smile. There were still about seven minutes left to her shift, and she was going to get the most out of them.

When he began talking to her rapidly, Lizette's brow nearly quirked in amusement, but instead, she kept that same small grin on her face. A talkative one...alright. This was fine. She nodded slightly at the proposition of a bet. Her favorite drink wasn't too hard to guess, but she couldn't help wanting a ten dollar tip on this order. Honestly, he could probably pick it out just by looking at the menu. It was a caramel frappe, and she always recommended it to people who were unsure about their orders. "Okay, go ahead." She said, even though this wasn't her lunch break. If he turned out to be weird, she could just get out of the bet with that simple loophole.

As soon as he guessed it, her face fell. She could've lied. She probably should've, with how excited he was to hang out with her. But, she didn't. Instead, she shrugged her shoulders in defeat and chuckled. "You got it, on the dot." She said, feigning sadness. After charging him for both of their drinks and his sandwich, she turned to make his order while the other cashier took her place. After their drinks were done, and his bagel breakfast sandwich was perfectly toasted, she took off her apron and exited from behind the workstation.

Approaching him with his order, she lifted it up and gestured toward a table. Even though she was off, she guessed it couldn't hurt to spend ten minutes with the guy. Taking a seat, she began sipping at her caramel frappe. She had put extra caramel in it, which made her very happy. "I'm Lizette." She said politely, nearly pointing at her name badge before remembering it wasn't on. "Nice to meet you." She cleared her throat slightly, unsure of what to talk to him about. They were complete strangers, but it wasn't like he was a tinder date or something. She didn't know his interests, or anything that she could use to make this conversation easier.

Pushing her glasses up higher on her face, she smiled. "Any particular reason why you wanted to hang out with me?" She asked, sucking in her cheek just enough to nibble on it. Releasing the tissue, she continued. "Or do you just make bets with all your servers?" He honestly seemed like the type to do something along those lines.

Sorry I didn't get her posted yesterday! Was waiting for another boy to be posted.
