@Carantathraielhehe.

It wasn't me!
*burps*
I did want to ask also. Could a player character be one of the androids? I have a vague idea for my character based on the info available

Yes, but there will be limited spots. Don't want people gravitating towards a particular class or trait.
I'm interested as well. Where did they get the 300,000 minds waiting for bodies to be built? Was there a particular reason for doing that? Would you say this RP is more intrigue/political or more action/adventure?

I have a little bit more information for when the OOC goes up that will discuss some of the finer details that I left out here (Didn't want to play all the cards at once as I wanted to see the level of interest). However to put it simply the human population was beginning to die off at an unsustainable pace due to the increase of infertility with each generation. The process of growing a human to a stage where the conscious can be transferred isn't an easy and fast process (let's say 1 body meets maturity for every 2 consciousness that need a new body). In essence the mind of the characters everyone will be playing will be about 500 years old, they've just reset their biological clock after every lifetime.

So the 300,000 are people who need a new body because they reached an age where their bodies are too weak to continue, or injured mortally. Rather than loosing more valuable people, the minds are stored away in a library for future reinsertion.

As for the style, I would like to think that a little action and tension may appear, but it'll be exploration, dealing with the troubles of such an unnatural society, and espionage. It'll be a world with policing forces so having gun fights in board daylight may have repercussions, especially if you kill someone.

Hope that helps.
To a degree yes, but nothing concrete at the moment. :)

How do we wanna plan this out cause I'm thinking we need some action around nowish.
The Mysteries of Awilix

INTEREST CHECK THREAD

OOC THREAD

Humans unfortunately do not live on Earth anymore, instead they live on a moon called Awilix that orbits the dead planet known only as Husk. The planet Earth was abandoned almost 500 years earlier after the discovery of a new energy, an energy known simply as Lunos.

The Discovery of Lunos

During the early 21st century the Earth witnessed a unique cosmic event in the form of Lunosity's Comet, a celestial body that passed by our home planet for the first time during mankind's existence. During this comet's orbit it resonated with an energy that triggered a change within the human genome, granting magic like abilities and allowing people to control the very elements around them. Eventually these abilities were dubbed the name Lunos, a tribute to the comet itself, and everyone viewed it as the next step of human evolution.

As the years went on a startling discovery was made. The human race was gradually becoming infertile, a fate mankind was unable to escape since it was embedded within the very core of their DNA thanks to the introduction of Lunos. If nothing was done soon, the human race would become extinct.

The Migration to Husk & Awilix

In a desperate attempt the leaders of Earth all agreed that staying on this tomb of a planet was simply not an option and that the entire species had to leave for the stars and find the origin of Lunosity's comet in order to see if there was a way to find a cure and reverse it's dire effects. Any normal species at this point would be extinct but humanity survived this long by growing humans and allowing for one's conscious to be placed within a new body when their old one became weak. This proved effective but due to the slow nature of the procedure not every human psyche was able to obtain a new body but instead had to be placed on a waiting list. At first many billions of lives were lost but this eventually stabilised to a number of around 9 million people. In addition to this, 300,000 minds have been placed within humanoid robots or stasis tanks so that they can wait for their new body to reach maturity, an advanced technique that was only achieved only in the past one hundred years.

Currently most of humanity lives on the lush moon of Awilix (Image), a satellite beaming with various forms of flora and fauna. Most of it's surfaces is covered in a thick jungle with long lengths of it's landscape housing a rugged mountain terrain. Unfortunately there is little in the way of large oceans but rivers, lakes and streams spread their roots throughout every crevice they can find, leaving many to believe that the plant life is nurtured by bore water and underground seas more than anything else.

Husk (Image) on the other hand is a dead planet with a crater that spreads over a third of it's surface, leaving it's exposed molten core visible to anyone that looks up at the night sky. While it might seen like a planet that should be left alone, it's exposed inner layers has allowed for easy mining of metal ore, fossil fuel and even the occasional Gemstone. These Gemstones can be quite rare and the best quality ones are usually the size of a golf ball.

On the surface of Awilix lies a city known as The Landing (Image). This condensed mega-city was built to surround a large, towering drop-pod; which these days acts like a hub for business and trade rather than a transport vessel. The city is positioned so it continually has a perfect view of it's parent world throughout the day and night, using Husk's rotational cycle to give humans a similar time frame that they were used to back on Earth.

The Events of Current

At this point in time it is unknown when humans will make their next leap in space towards the origins of Lunosity's Comet. For the time being however they are living among the other, occasionally dangerous, wildlife of Awilix. Several ancient ruins and crash sites have been spotted around the moon as well, leaving many to wonder if another intelligent life form used to occupy this lonely planet. This fact seems to be reinforced by the recent disappearance of a scout ship, but it is unknown whether the two are completely related.

Adding to this turn of events is the rising accusations that the Leaders within the city are starting to loose focus on society's best interest through the use of cutting government funding and oppression. These accusations however stem from a radical group called The Children of Umbra, a terrorist organisation who has risen up over the last decade.

Notes From Myself

Currently I will be looking for up to 5 players, nothing more as it can dilute the experience. This Roleplay does have some inspiration from various stories, movies and games, however I don't wish to list them as I don't want to generate a fandom base of players. I'll try to do the best I can but please be mindful that I am human, I do have up and down days, and I am GMing this so I can have an RP that I can also participate in. :)

Was dealing with one of those recently and had to dodge that bullet real quick.

As for my bitching, it's recently been when people are 'craving' something, you pm them, and they don't respond. Minor, but after the first several times it begins to be upsetting.

Oh I had that as well. Someone posts up an interest check, you pm them, and then a few hours later they bump their check saying "anyone?"

I've seen a few RPs where the GM has incorporated some sort of financial aspect and skill point system to the mix in ways that both interest me and confuse me. I'm talking about is when you create a character and they start off with 20 Gold Pieces, $10,000, or a certain number of skills, and they have to finance their equipment, weapons, upgrades, or some other aspect that naturally would require payment or earning more skillpoints. Adding on to that I have also seen the aspect of jobs/careers where the player earn money in order to spend it on these items.

- So what do others think of Roleplays that incorporate such a feature?
- Has anyone heard of some good or bad examples?
- Would you choose to enter or not enter an RP if it contained such a feature?
- How would one balance income/levelling up between players when not all players would post at the same pace?

Not sure what else I can ask as I haven't had much experience in it, but it seems like a peculiar way to show each character's growth over a course of an entire Roleplay (especially when you have something to work towards or newer player come in later).

If anyone would wish to expand their answers about the topic I'd love to hear.
I hate it when people tell me not to post in the OOC because I spam. I don't conciser chatting spam. But there it is. I just hate being singled out and booted. It makes me feel awful. Am I really that annoying to have around? And it really makes me not want to continue to post IC.

<Snipped quote by Blue Demon>

I've seen that before. I've seen people leave the game because the OOC gets so much activity that people feel they are missing if they can't check it daily, even if the IC is updated only every other day.

I dunno, I see both sides to this. I love talking to people, so I use the OOC frequently, but I can also get behind seeing a large amount of text you missed. I don't think you should be singled out and booted for it though. If people have a problem with it, take it up with you or set up Skype or some other chat service if it becomes a huge issue.

I too am on the fence about the balance of chatter and RP talk, but there's a time and place where one is allowed to overtake the other without it causing too much of a problem. As an example I talk about my RC racing sometimes and even post up pics for others to see. It's actually a cool thing to talk about cause I find people always asking questions about it and I'm happy to tell them the answer. It allows the others to understand me more, and therefore understand my personality and why my characters are designed in certain ways.

@Blue Demon, you mentioned you got singled out for 'spamming' about general conversation, but I've also seen the exact opposite. I have memories of one RP where I left for the night and came back to 50+ posts about the RP where two people were bouncing so many ideas off each other that it wasted everyone else's time. There should be a balance between the two but in my opinion I would rather the balance to lean more towards your direction because if you can generate a team of RPers that are friends, I'm sure they'll stick around and help out any GM in the long run. :)
