Well...that took significantly longer than I thought it would. T-T
I'm also on the verge of passing out - again - so I think Imma call it a wrap.

At six foot five, Elijah practically dwarves his father, who is a good seven inches shorter. While he does have a rather slim look to him, years of sports and healthy eating have laid a muscular foundation to the guy’s body. And years of puberty have left the dreaded mark of terrible teenage facial hair upon the lad’s chin and upper lip. Eli’s pretty diligent about keeping himself shaved but...well hey, sometimes a day or two gets past him. Oh well.

He has a pretty consistent style, really. It’s pretty rare to see Eli without his green-tinted silver framed glasses and that low, wild afro. He could switch things up but...why bother with it? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

As far as his clothes go when given a choice, Eli usually defaults to a green jacket or hoodie and a pair of khakis or jeans. But does have to wash his clothes eventually…Good thing he has more than one green jacket, eh? If it is too warm, or if he’s going to be playing some ball, a gray t-shirt and green shorts are his go-to choice. Or whatever is clean. Let’s be honest, he’s not too picky, really.

Personality:

Live-and-let-live. If anything could be called the definitive characteristic of Eli’s personality, it would be that. Live-and-let-live. To the young Hughes man, open-mindedness is key to happy life. The world’s a big place filled with billions upon billions of people. How arrogant would he have to be to truly think that he was in any position to say what others should or shouldn’t do? So long as his values and beliefs are not being infringed upon, Eli takes a hands-off approach to things. Besides, it pays to be flexible. One never knows when one might learn something new from even complete strangers.

Call it innocence, idealism, or just downright naivety, but Eli truly does believe that all people are good in their core. That’s not to say that good people couldn’t still do terrible things, but there must always be a reason behind such actions. To understand that is to come closer to truly understanding the person, to perhaps make changes to avoid such awful occurrences from repeating themselves down the line. Unfortunately, the world has shown that more often than not, even that is not enough to prevent the atrocities. Eli constantly finds himself disappointed due to this. Disappointed in the world, in others, even in himself. Especially in himself.

A sense of pride in hard work was instilled in Eli by his father. When given a task, his job is to complete it, and Eli knows well that he will. The job must be completed. And should it be something that interests him, well, the lad is likely to pour his entire being into seeing its completion. It’s not uncommon for him to even neglect his own needs, often finding himself particularly starved or exhausted after the energetic “high” that comes from working a long project wears off eventually.

Eli is certainly capable with pretty comfortably chatting with just about anybody, but it’s not likely that he’d volunteer any personal tidbits all willy-nilly. He’s more of a private guy. While he’d be more than willing to lend an ear to just about anybody, and would happily take their secrets to the grave, being on the other end of that just isn’t all that appealing to him. Some of that can be accredited to the guy’s sensitivity. Certainly he’d never scream it from the rooftops, but Eli is rather self-conscious over just about everything. And criticism, regardless of its intent, feels more like a personal attack than any sort of self-improvement tool. But all of those negative vibes just go into the bottle and are never seen again.

Long story short, the world and it’s inhabitants are pretty great things, but sometimes shitty things happen. When they do, Eli listens, then Eli acts. He’ll fix the world or die trying, just don’t ask how. Details kind of suck.

If you answered yes to any of the above, go somewhere else! This is not the history you’re looking for. This is much, MUCH more mundane. It doesn’t even have any dragons. What a rip-off.

Elijah Chase Hughes isn’t exactly in any races for the most interesting man award. Quite frankly, he lived a pretty average life. Born the first child of Patricia and Henry in southern Ohio, a couple of moderate means living in a moderate home in a moderate neighborhood. Pat was a schoolteacher while Henry was just chasing wages at a nearby factory, though he did seem to be on the fast-track to management. As such, Eli never really wanted for much. Sure, it would have been nice to have that actual tiger from the zoo, or his own rocketship, or even just every toy that ever appeared on television, but somehow the boy survived. Nearly six years after Eli rolled out, Pat and Henry had another child and Eli had gained a sister. Emily. It seemed like the Hughs were well on their way of achieving that American dream of having the 2.5 children, a house with a white picket fence, and a perfect dog.

But sometimes life just likes to throw some curveballs. 

Skip about ten years here, and we see Henry Hughs being offered that job he’d been chasing for so long. The only catch? He’d be leaving the country. There was a plant in Japan that had the opening. And it wasn’t like he could just up and refuse after chasing for so long, not if he ever hoped to continue his career. So he accepted the offer and left for Japan two weeks later. The plan was that he would get settled, then the rest of the family would join him after the semester ended. The kids were pretty much ready to go immediately, but Pat wanted to wait. She wanted at the very least to let Eli finish the basketball season. Basketball wasn’t exactly Eli’s favorite thing in the world, he much preferred reading, but it made his Ma happy, so it was worth it. It helped that he was actually surprisingly good at it.

So, maybe it wouldn’t exactly be the AMERICAN dream, but it still worked. They’d easily be able to afford a decent house on his new salary. The family pet, a rather devious little corgi that went by Duke, was pretty much all they could have ever wanted in man’s best friend. And Pat even had a surprise ready for Henry. She was pregnant. Eli and Emily had already heard the news, and were ecstatic. 

Pat would never get to tell Henry about the newest addition to their family.
In a terrible car accident one night caused by a drunk texting rather lewd photos of himself whilst driving, Pat’s car was hit head-on. She hadn’t had her belt buckled and was launched through the windshield. She died instantly.

Henry returned to the states for his late wife’s funeral, and shortly after, the now broken family boarded a plane to Japan. practically on the other side of the planet. It felt as if they were simply running away from the harsh reality.

They managed to get through it, however. They managed to survive. It affected each of them, but life moves on, no matter what. Eli found that the culture shock helped keep him distracted from his mother’s passing, but he did have a hell of a time trying to learn the language. His sister, on the other hand, was a natural. Go figure.

Skip forward just a bit and we have Eli Hughs in his last year of Yurei High. With mediocre grades, it didn’t exactly seem like higher education was in his future. Really, he was just coasting to graduation. After that, it seemed likely that he would be able to get on at his father’s plant. It wasn’t exactly what he wanted to do, but not even Eli knew what he wanted at this point. This route was just as good as any, no?

For now, he had decided to just do enough to graduate, while focusing more on his basketball endeavours. He didn’t exactly want to do that either, but well, it was one of the last connections to his mother that he had. To turn his back on the sport would be like turning his back on Ma herself. No, he’d finish up this last year, then he could spend the rest of his life doing whatever. Besides, they were actually looking pretty great this year. If they could win big his final year, well...that’d be a bonus.

At least, that was the plan. Then along came Occult Club. Eli wasn’t exactly a believer in the supernatural (though neither was he against the possibility), but he did see it as a decent opportunity to pursue a side hobby - writing. Truth be known, Eli loved to write, though he likely wouldn’t be quick on sharing it anyway. He figured it would be a good chance to collect inspiration for any potential horror stories he may attempt in the future. Besides, it could actually be fun, and if nothing else, it would lead him to meeting more people than just his dorks in the basketball club. And if they just so happened to be chicks, well...that’d be a bigger bonus.

Also a bonus: trying to time find to manage his new time commitment to his clubs, his schooling, and making sure Emily didn’t burn the house down.

Oh well. Might as well go with the flow.
