Alright so I'm finally back in my sweet and lovely home so I don't have to use my terrible phone.

Anyway, don't worry too much about what I said. I might have been speculating a bit on Zhal's reason, but I feel like the RP took a turn for something different than what I expected. With A Song of Ice and Fire, I had expected something more enveloped in the politics and intrigue and so on. But judging from the first few pages, it is just kind of a social club or something. Not that isn't necessarily bad or anything and I get that can change as we get further in the story. It's just that on first impression it seems that way.

My biggest gripe is that I'm rather slow at posting things, especially now with finals and work, so I did not expect to be two pages behind tonight. Some people have already posted 3 times before I have even said hello! Of course, I don't want to be "that person" because I've seen my request for people to wait, really harm the RP. Slowing down everyone just for me can kind of cause a wane of interest here and I don't want to do that. So I can try keeping up, for what it is worth.

Well think about it like this: the King, who isn't overly popular in the realm, asks for each house's rightful heir brought to King's Landing. For some reason. Anyone could interpret that as the Tarygaryens holding them captive as a detourant. Not only that but the Tarygaryens could have a reasonable Cacus Belli for war if a house proves to be a little too rowdy.

I'm sure that would be fine as I assume most if not all of the wards would have a retinue accompanying them to the capitol. I guess it just depends who you want to be alongside of.

Strengths

If there is one thing about being raised with two older brothers, it is that you'll have to learn to fend for yourself. Especially if you are an Ironborn. Today, this has translated into Syla being quite the brawler, substituting a man's brute strength for knowing just where to hit and being light on her feet. She's a noted dirty fighter, too, in order to compensate for the lack of testosterone. Also, being a fighter, she was taught how to fight in combat beyond just her fists. Her preference is with a sword and shield.

Suprisingly crafty despite her lack of brilliance. Some would call it "street smarts" but to Syla, it's just knowing your way around. It can be bigger things like she knows how to con a man out of his coin purse or it can be the small stuff like knowing just exactly where to get the fish in Pyke.

Syla is quite dense and academia was always her greatest weakness. She isn't book smart by any stretch of the imagination and has no grasp of the finer points.

As you can imagine, Syla can be pretty easy to manipulate being one that is motivated more by passion and feeling instead of logic or truth. She's quick to anger, lust, and so on... Many of those that practice their intrigue, and there are many in King's Landing, can convince Syla to do just about anything.

A Greyjoy doesn't really have many friends outside of their islands and Syla is no exception. She pretty much reeks of the salty rocks of Pyke and everyone can "smell" it after meeting her once. To make matters worse, Syla isn't doing herself any favors by boisterous and impudent guest in King's Landing. The worst part is, she is considered entirely expendable by most of those back home.

Personality

Syla is an Ironborn, true and true. She's cold and hardened to many things with a fierce temper and pride. She aspires after her rolemodel, Asha Greyjoy, who had also previously defied the traditional gender laws of the Iron Islands, even leading men into battle. Syla is ambitious and desires a lot out of life, namely title and land. She's also rowdy, tough, and an open flirt with other women, which generally doesn't work out in her favor. Many harbor contempt for her "sinful" reputation but at this point, Syla is beyond caring.

History

Ah, being the face of Greyjoy's disinterest in Targaryen politics doesn't provide the best outlook on life but it can have its perks...

Syla is Bailin Greyjoy's answer to the mandatory Targaryen request to send a ward from their family. Seeing as the Greyjoy's are still bitter about their denied kingship, Bailin sent what he considered to be a non-serious candiate. Syla. Overall, this was probably the best move he could make. He could send off his landless daughter and earn something in King's Landing without running the risk of losing a son, or more importantly an heir.

Still, one has to admit that even she does the Greyjoy name proud. Ever since she was a kid, she was always one to follow her brothers around. She always preferred the iron to the frilly cloth of typical ladies and she was always at least tolerated for it. So her father, Bailin, trained her alongside her brothers, who were and still are the most important people in her life. But Bailin knew the day would come where his daughter would want to lead ships, just like her brothers. Thankfully he was presented an out before Syla's coming-of-age and sent her off to King's Landing to serve as the Greyjoy ward.
