So, like, moments after Mariette spoke with Alicia she ended up in a spot of trouble. Mariette really hadn’t predicted that and wasn’t entirely sure what to do. Still, it felt mean to just leave, so…

So she charged a magical blast and let out a beam of light straight at the core of the Wendigo approaching Alicia through the very same portal she’d used to speak to her, before closing the portal and returning to the basement she was currently inhabiting.

While Mariette was looking around, she had information being whispered into her ear about how things were looking. For a moment the Industrial Sector looked bad and Mariette was mentally preparing to intercept, but then Penny arrived. There was Caroline, but Mariette didn’t want to bother with that, thankfully it seemed Miko was keeping Ronin from engaging the vampire-girl… Mariette sympathized with what she had to be feeling. It was modestly easy to imagine that Eli had felt the same loss Mariette had upon Deni’s death, and then some.

Still, there was one thing she was being told that really bothered her. She had someone constantly watching the town just in case something like this happened. Yet, this attack… where had it come from? Actually, she had a decently good idea where it came from. The voice in her ear told her how it had come from the Industrial Sector, and in fact, there was someone who had been there at the exact moment this event happened. Actually, more accurately, there had been a whole bunch of people… but only one that was still alive.

Mariette walked through a portal. She ended up in an apartment with a whole bunch of confused civilians that were wondering why they’d ended up here, and the magical effect on normal people ensured even if Mariette walked out of a portal in front of them they’d write it off as something mundane. Still, Mariette walked past them, she had one goal. The Beacon girl that she had placed upon the bed with the mundane doctor she’d portalled to next to her to deal with her injuries. She’d been decently patched up already…

‘What happened?’ Mariette asked, standing on absolutely no ceremony. ‘When this attack started… what did you see?’

Just in case this Beacon-girl would attack her for being here, Mariette had her tentacles ready…

‘HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!’ Mayra laughed as she tore through the wendigos she was faced with one by one. She considered each of her many abilities as limiters to be released one by one, and she was always challenging herself to beat her enemy with as few “limiters” released as possible. With her darkness-limiter released, she was jumping circles around the wendigos, partly bleeding magma around the area and partly making flaming holes in the creatures one after another.

But, like, look at this glorious battlefield! There were so many girls, fighting a common enemy. Someone was clearly using crows against them. That thunderbird was awesome. So many blades and fire-weapons. Numerous flying girls. Spirits and beasts about, monsters and wings striking. It was all so glorious, it made Mayra want nothing more than to be the most show-offy of all the people present. So with a last glance around the battlefield, the glance thrown while slamming her tail into two wendigos, she decided she was going to launch to the rescue of the girls Mariette had told her to save, and-

-and she immediately abandoned that plan and stopped short as her eyes zeroed in on something that got her immediate attention. Now, Mayra had very little interest in boys, other than that they looked curiously. Fellow fire-users were more interesting, but they were decently common.

But what was it that she saw before her that she had never previously seen?

Fire boys.

Two of them.

@Majoras End

Mayra immediately shot off through the battle, utterly ignoring all form of action because she'd suddenly lost interest in the battle. She just suddenly landed next to the Oliver she decided was the real one, because it was the one closest to Finn. She just suddenly appeared, looking at him with a curious look and a tilted face, smiling as the dragon-girl inspected him and his weapons of choice.

‘Hey. You make fire, but it’s not normal fire. Cool. Can you show me how you’re doing it? I’m interested. Could we spar? I’d like to test you out!’ Mayra said, smiling and approaching him, possibly made even stranger than usual because the dragon-girl was still bleeding from numerous cuts from Wendigos, and also she just left two Wendigos she’d been fighting behind to suddenly go talking to Oliver.

‘Also your friend with the cool red flame is-’ and that’s when Mayra noticed that the other guy wasn’t there anymore but heading somewhere else.

‘Wait, he’s going somewhere!? There’s somewhere cooler to be than here!? I’m interested! Let me go, too!’ Mayra called excitedly and then blasted off with a beast-like leap after where Finn was running, an excited Mayra dashing to keep up with him and find out where he was going, completely and utterly ignoring/forgetting the supposed commands Mariette had given/bribed her with about protecting those other Magical Girls.

If Mayra were to actually catch up to Finn, she’d be like ‘Heeey, where are we going? Can I come? I’m coming anyway! By the way, I like your fire. Can you do some more? I wanna see!’ or something to that degree while dashing leaned forward and tilting her head at him. Not sure she actually would, but if she did.

@Ponn

Miko was a bit worried that Caroline would react negatively to that Gaia also urged her to look for her sister, but fortunately it appeared that Caroline didn’t think that far ahead. It definitely seemed like she was going to depart and leave them alone. However, Miko avoided breathing a sigh of relief until the vicious smiling girl had actually departed. Ronin, meanwhile, was kind of wondering if Miko was going to keep holding her sword at Ronin’s stomach for as long as Caroline was here.

Then some rather regal-seeming monster-girl started speaking. Both Ronin and Miko looked in her direction rather dumbstruck as to who this was and why they were here. Though, towards the end of her speech, she completely dropped the regal-seeming part and-

‘Sensei!’ Ronin called happily as she realized.
‘Wait, THAT’S Sensei?’ Miko asked, eyebrows raised. ‘But she’s a-’
‘Doesn’t matter, it’s Sensei! People change appearance all the time here!’ Ronin said, grinning, herself and Miko being primary examples of this.

Of course, it took but a moment for Caroline to, well, not be insulted by Sakura’s words, but going for a vicious assault against her regardless.

‘C’mon, we gotta help her!’ Ronin called excitedly… but was once again stopped as Miko didn’t move the sword. Ronin looked down, and then to her sister with a now the slightest inconvenienced look.

‘She… she said she’d handle it. Don’t give Caroline a reason to attack us,’ Miko demanded, remembering the time Caroline killed her.

‘Ey, sis… That’s my friend being attacked over there. Of course she’ll say she can handle it, that’s who she is, but I can’t just not help her!’ Ronin said.

‘B-but, last time you faced her, I…’ I lost you, were the words Miko couldn’t say.

‘Hey, I know what happened, but… I can’t just stop being me, you know? It just wouldn’t feel right! But with you at my side, I’m sure we can prevent it from happening again! Alright?’ Ronin asked, giving Miko one of her trademark optimistic friend-making grins as she felt so confident about this.

‘I…’ Miko had trouble finding the words to reply, yet she absolutely did not want Ronin to run off into battle with Caroline again. She threw a pleading glance towards Gaia and Connie, as if asking for advice or a helping hand or something… albeit maybe they were already occupied with something, who knows, then Miko and Ronin will sort it out themselves next post. Maybe. For now they’re standing there, meaning Sakura’s on her own for a little bit, unless someone else comes to protect her.

Mariette was startled by the sudden appearance of the crows. She instantly gauged that she did not have the firepower to shoot down a crowd of this many crows, and as such simply portalled to a new location. However, as she did that, she came to the realization that the crows could follow her, no matter where she went. This effectively meant Mariette could no longer be on the battlefield until the crows were gone.

Very annoying.

Mariette portalled herself into a locked basement that she knew existed for this very reason, in case someone was after her. Try as they might, the crows would need to fly through several closed doors in order to reach her here. It was dark, but she already knew all that was in here. So, to support from her current location, Mariette periodically opened portals around the Industrial District to see the situation, and sent a bolt of light at an offending Wendigo each time. She let Shane handle the crows, as she closed the portal and waited before opening another somewhere else.

This meant her attacks were less frequent, but at the very least she was still helping.

That’s when a voice suddenly spoke into her ear.

Caroline von Visceral has appeared at Penrose Bank, a voice suddenly spoke in her ear. Mariette winced. That name meant a significant amount to her. That girl that had been the one to kill Deni all that time ago, and Justine had let it happen. Still, Justine was cleared now. While Mariette never wanted to talk to her again, there was a certain urgency to her right now. She had to act. She reached with her magic to various corners of Penrose…

@Flamelord@Shifter_Master@Ariamis

‘Caroline von Visceral has appeared at Penrose Bank,’ Mariette spoke through three small portals, to behind and to the left of each target. One to Penny, who she figured would react responsively. One to Alicia, who she believed would react accordingly. One to Justine, who she knew to be purified. Now, they were all in the midst of battles, but she was confident her words would be on their minds. She was wary of attack from at least one of them.

In her presence is Connie, Gaia, Ronin and Miko.

Mariette winced, her heart lurching a bit. By now, she knew who Ronin and Miko were. And they… they were by Caroline. Thing was, if Mariette instantly acted on this knowledge, then the one watching would pick up on her desperation and the two’s cover would be blown. At the very least, Mariette opened a portal to watch from the sky above, careful to keep a lookout for crows about to assault her. If they were to assault her, tentacles would strike them and keep Mariette safe enough to close the portal.

Mayra basically grinned at the Wendigos trying to hold her down. She crouched, swiped with her blazing clawed foot as she blasted another Wendigo halfway across the district, and was launching herself from Wendigo to Wendigo to keep from being surrounded, when suddenly apparently two Wendigos managed to trap her between their antlers. Huh, this was new. She had a mildly curious expression as one tore her shoulder-scale off, some went for her swinging tail but frankly missed, and a couple more cut at her face and her one bit at her leg… A somewhat bad idea considering the blood that ran through Mayra’s veins was blazingly hot and far more burningly so than her relatively cool exterior.

Completely unperturbed, Mayra smirked at them. The Monica chick sent out a torrent of orange flames which ignored the Wendigos but gave her the boon of Divine Fire… which Mayra had no idea of what it was but it felt good. It made her want to destroy some monsters. She chuckled at her “captors”.

‘Heeeeeeeeeey, you’re doing pretty good! I appreciate the challenge!’ Mayra took another breath and kicked the one that was trying to chew on her leg (and probably burn their mouth off). ‘Wanna start phase two?’

… And then Mayra effortlessly slipped through the antlers with Darkness magic allowing her to slip through her own shadow, showing up in the shadow of a different Wendigo and throwing a burning clawed punch to pierce through the monster’s torso. Her eyes burned with passion as she vaulted over the victim to drive her legs through the next, and then momentarily fell back to dodge further attempts at captures. Even if they did manage to hit her, she was too tough for them to easily kill. Even if they captured her, she had darkness magic to let her slip away. Even if they revived, Mayra always had more fire! So she felt!

‘Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee~!’ Mayra brawled her way into the herd, once more keeping herself from being overwhelmed by keeping to the sides or otherwise slipping away with darkness. There was no way she was retreating and there was no way she’d be needing help. She was brawling this whole group to dust as a mass of flailing fire and darkness, kicking and slashing overhead as she weaved and struck past their blows, even as their gathering hits and cuts were making her bleed some blazingly warm sizzling yellow blood onto the pavement below…!

‘Hey, girl with the huge demon above her! Don’t die, I wanna try fighting your thing later!’ Mayra shouted in the midst of the brawl. She was referring to Ashlyn, but since she was basically shouting it into the mass of Wendigos who really knew.

Should she run out of opponents she’d go off and try to kill-steal from the other girls present. Though, seeing how she was contending with eight of them on her own, maybe she’ll be busy for a while.

Ronin and Miko found themselves helped by a blast of nightmare magic from Connie that caused the two Wendigos to get a bit crippled..

‘Thank you, Connie!’ Miko called with a happy smile. as she maneuvered to take advantage.
‘You’re a hero!’ Ronin followed it up with a grin, a wink and a thumbs-up. Then she noticed the one that was turning towards Connie…

‘OH NO YOU DON’T!’ Ronnie called with a grin as she launched herself off a platform of reinforcement that sprung like a spring under her feet to propel her at the Wendigo so it wouldn’t attack her friend… when the Wendigo suddenly dropped into dust. ‘… Huh?’

There was a new individual here, with a burning sword-staff, a familiar visage and a chilling voice…

Ronin froze, a little conflicted on how she should respond. She sort-of got killed last time she interacted with this individual. But, Caroline was going up next to Connie! Ronin just had to-

A sword pressed lightly at her stomach before she could dash to Connie’s rescue. Ronin looked with surprise to her right, and quickly surmised that any distress she was feeling was child’s play compared to what her sister was feeling.

‘Don’t… move,’ Miko said, her eyes of frantic determination as she held her own sword at her sister for the sole purpose of ensuring Deni did not jump in Caroline’s way again. Last time Caroline had gone for Mariette and Deni had died jumping in her way. Eli would not let it happen again. Instead, Eli had a different solution.

‘Your sister is somewhere else in this city,’ Miko said, turning to look kindly at Caroline, her sword still holding Ronin from leaping. ‘I don’t know where she is, but any moment you aren’t looking for her is time during which she might leave. You don’t want that, do you? You should go look for her!’ Miko said, smiling so supportively, disguising the inner turmoil.

She just wanted Caroline to leave. As soon as possible. Get away from me and Deni!

Mariette did not respond to the sentence echoing through her mind. She knew that, already. She turned back to the three unknown girls as intended, giving no particular reaction. She did note the words about needing fire to burn the hearts of the monsters, albeit it was information she’d already heard through her ear-piece.

So, it seemed the girls did, in fact, just seek shelter. Mariette relaxed her cold gaze, it seemed they were merely misguided and did, in fact, not have anything to do with the Wendigo invasion, as she had feared. In fact, the three of them were about to end up in absolute peril, in a matter of mere seconds.

It appeared that they were in need of a powerful savior.

Unfortunately, the available savior didn’t respond too well to commands, because of her inherent chaotic nature. Mariette couldn’t just give her orders. Incentive was needed.

Fortunately, Mariette was rather well-versed in what their savior wanted.

‘Save their lives and I’ll have Tullia let you fight her dragon.’

‘Have Taihei make her a magical artifact to make the dragon even stronger!’

‘Deal.’

An explosion of fire burst out around Mariette. The eye-patched girl stumbled, clutching her plushie, as what could best be described as a comet blasted across the district at the horde of Wendigos, specifically at the girl currently being swarmed. A line of fire crossed in a straight line across the battlefield… before the individual at the tip of the launch swung her leg, and the tail of fire swung with it. A long whip of fire slashed with the weight of a powerful kick down at the clawing swarm, and upon impact it would explode into a fiery blast to send the creatures blazing off of the pretty injured girl.

Above her, a girl covered in draconic scales landed, grinning at the horde, her fiery hair flowing on her head and hot yellow lines of magma burning around on her skin.

‘Hey, hey, hey, I heard something funny,’ the girl said, chuckling a little bit as she flexed her fingers and fire covered her claws, her tail swinging slowly and excitedly behind her.

‘You guys are weak to fire, ain’t ya?’ Mayra called with a little grin, clasping a fist into a palm… before rocketing with a blast of fire behind her straight into another Wendigo, raising her claws of fire to burn through the beast and its heart before heading for the next one straight after, intending to catch as many of the beasts as she could, not giving them time to gang up on her before she blasted away with a burst of fire to the next beast, swiping with claws and legs and maybe occasionally even her tail.

Mariette gave a brief sigh as she let Mayra go to work while she herself tried to open a portal from the injured girl directly into the sanctuary, hoping it wasn’t too late for their available healers to save what was left of her.

After the previous incident, it was decided that Mariette needed someone with significantly more firepower as her bodyguard, a job that Eli wasn’t really that suitable for. With Mayra here, lack of physical prowess was a worry of the past. She was their ace, competent with magic and a terror in physical combat, so combat-wise they were fine. However, compared to Eli, Mayra wasn’t a fraction as subtle and lacked Eli’s information-gathering expertise, meaning Mariette could no longer depend on sound advice at her side at all times. Though… she was maybe a lot more capable as someone claiming to be protecting the city.

Regardless. Mariette turned her attention to the fleeing girl, Hanna, who Mayra wouldn’t be able to help. Mariette stepped through a portal into the sky, where the Wendigos were hard-pressed to try to catch her, and swung an arm to send bolts of light down at the Wendigos pursuing the girl. If she could, she’d attempt to catch Hanna in a portal so she’d take her right back to the three Sanctuary girls, who she figured would do a better job protecting her. She just had to keep the Wendigos occupied while Mayra and Monica did their jobs to actually finish off the horde of Wendigos.

Mariette’s eye behind the eyepatch quickly flashed a look at a clock in a nearby apartment to keep track of time. Of all things, she had class coming up. Hopefully, this incident would be over before she had to leave. Because, between saving the city and getting to class in the Overcity on time…

She’d pick class.

‘Whoa-!’ Ronin sounded as the beast swiped at her, and she used a combination of Martial Training and Flexibility to redirect the swipe with her sword and dodge under the brunt of the attack. Miko, meanwhile, noted the incoming horned bully and charged a burst of air to blast her aside, but it was slightly too slow and her skirt was torn, her leg scratched behind it. Meanwhile, over there, Connie and Gaia… were handling just fine.

‘It appears, despite my question, we’re the ones in need of help,’ Miko commented, leaping to reconvene with Ronin with her sword held a little lazily but with a ready stance regardless.

‘Fortunately for us, we’re never without help!’ Ronin chuckled, landing next to her with her sword at the ready and held with both hands. Miko chuckled as well, for she understood her sister’s words.

‘That’s right.’
‘We’re never alone.’

‘We fight together!’
‘We fight together!’

With that call, the girls dashed past each other creating an x-shape, each sister launching themselves at the Wendigo focused on the other. Miko blasted a burst of wind into the opponent’s face to momentarily dazzle him before slicing at the beast’s stomach, while Ronin created a small barrier to block her opponent’s next attack before it had even picked up speed, and sliced at her opponent’s neck while given the chance.

As soon as that was done and the Wendigos were sure to refocus on the new twin, the two used small bursts of wind to once again switch places, keeping an eye on the actions of the other Wendigo to mislead any attack on their fellow twin and seek an entrance for the slices of their own blades! Small bursts of wind was used to confuse and reposition themselves to avoid damage, and small reinforcement barriers were used to block attacks early or redirect them with angled blows to send them off-target.

If at any point both Wendigos focused at the same sister, it meant she took to the evasive while the other was free to slice the creatures from behind. As soon as the circumstances changed, they’d resume their dance, meant to keep monsters of simpler mental states confused and while using Flexibility and Martial Training to keep themselves out of danger and using their weak but nonetheless capable magic to give them the edge in battle.

And so, the sisters’ dance of battle was in motion.
A wendigo tried to slash down a crying civilian in their car. The swing missed, and the confused civilian found herself in an apartment across town with no given explanation.

The door of a small store was bashed open and a wendigo launched itself at the inhabitants. The wendigo crashed into the wall face-first, and the inhabitants of the store found themselves staring at the other civilian that had vanished from a car moments earlier.

A man was fleeing at full speed from a different wendigo that leapt at him. He suddenly fell through the ground, and the wendigo barely missed its chance to follow through. It was now quite the party inside said apartment.

A Beacon magical girl on patrol who took on a far too big group of wendigos was about to be sliced open, her ice magic unable to freeze the powerful monsters. She, too, suddenly found herself falling through a hole in the floor and into the embrace of a confused civilian.

In a dark room in a relatively safe apartment sat a girl with both eyes open, listening on whispers in her ear and staring into a myriad of small windows to various hot-zones, and in each Mariette stretched herself to find what was being told to her.

Man in car in central street. Two girls in shop on business street. Man in ambulance at hospital, said the little transmitter, reporting people about to die. Mariette, constantly focusing her power in different directions, opened portals under their feet one after the other, in a constant chase to try to save as many as possible.

Reinforcements arriving in all locations, the voice said, and Mariette breathed a sigh of relief. Due to her little spy, she’d been among the first to learn of the incoming monster attack, and because of her powers she’d been the first one able to actually help. However, she’d been tied down having to save as many people as she could, meaning she’d been unable to actually destroy the monsters. With the rest of the girls of Penrose now mustering their forces, it was time to take the fight to them.

That said, there’d been one area where Mariette had been utterly unable to help. A battle against a superior force, where Mariette couldn’t have helped unless she’d focused her full attention on it, and she’d been unable to do that without sacrificing the lives of many civilians.

This was no longer the case, now.

At the Industrial Sector, a dark magical girl was about to kill a Beacon girl who’d simply been on patrol along with her companions… when a blast of light shot through the air at her. It wasn’t intended to kill, but to distract from that a portal quickly opened under the injured Beacon girl and brought her to safety.

‘If you’re looking for Sanctuary to join them, you may want to know they’re avoiding a war with Beacon, so do not bring it onto them. If you’re not looking for Sanctuary to join them…’

Mariette strode out on a portal hanging in mid-air above Belladonna’s position. The portal girl stood holding onto her rabbit plushie, raising her head a little to look at the corrupted magical girls before her.

‘… Then it might benefit you to know this city is under my protection. This includes Sanctuary as well as Beacon. What are you after?’

Mariette took a moment to look down at Belladonna and co. Do not let them know who you are, she whispered through three tiny portals to them. She then turned back towards the three corrupted girls…

Now, if they wanted to fight, they were more than welcome to attempt. There was a surprise waiting for them in Mariette’s shadow if they came in too close.

‘Plan, plan, plan… We need a plan.’

‘What is the objective of our plan, dear sister?’

‘Well. We need to save Mariette. She’s still with Asengav. It’s excellent that we managed to get as far as we could, but…’

‘I’m afraid the next step is hers to take. We managed to remove her brainwashing, but without her permission that’s as far as we can go.’

‘Yeah, but there has to be a reason she’s still with the horror, even after what we did. We just have to undo that tie.’

‘To undo that tie, we must first identify that tie. So, what IS that tie?’

‘Uuuuh. I dunno.’

‘Well, that puts us in a little bit of a bind, now, doesn’t it?’

‘I guess…’

‘She also said to leave it to her. So maybe she’s entirely fine on her own?’

‘I can’t assume that. Just in case she needs us, we should stick around.’

‘What are we doing in the meantime, though? Aren’t we kinda pointless?’

‘Hah! Are you kidding? Isn’t it obvious what we should do?’

‘Tihi. I suppose it is. Then…’

‘To the streets!’
‘To the streets!’

With that, the two girls in flowing eastern-style clothing, one in blue with a cool black scarf and the other in red and pink and both with short black hair leapt out a window at the Wendigos assaulting the people at Penrose Bank. There were only two of them left, because the other four had dashed for Connie and Mia, but the people did nonetheless need to be saved. Ronin and Miko brandished their weapons together and slashed down at the Wendigos by the bank, using the fact they hadn’t been noticed to hopefully cut as deeply as possible, before leaping back hopefully having earned the monsters’ attention with that maneuver if they didn’t fall outright. With that, the two twins set up in battle stances, katanas drawn.

‘Heeey, it’s Connie and Mia!’ Ronin took a moment to wave enthusiastically at the girls that were currently being assaulted by numerous monsters.

‘Um, do you need help?’ Miko asked, tilting her head briefly before refocusing on the probably pretty pissed Wendigos in front of them. One thing at a time.

Other agents of Asengav. Remains existing because they were created while I was Co-GM and was trying to run a villain business.

Edit:
@hatakekuro

Hawluchas can in fact learn Fly, so there was no trouble for Glory to fly up towards the top of the trees against the downpour. After he got there, though, he found a mess of branches that were difficult to navigate. He didn’t find a Pinsir yet. He did, though, find a bunch of bagworms and a very, very lazy-looking sloth that had the strange effect of making anyone looking at it feel lazy, too. But maybe he could overpower it.

Pokédex Entry #412 – Burmy, the Bagworm Pokémon. To shield itself from wind or elements, it creates a cloak made out of whatever elements are easily available in the area. Should the cloak be destroyed in battle, it will simply create a new one from the materials where the battle took place. When female Burmy’s evolve, the current cloak becomes part of its body, giving it a new type.

Pokédex Entry #287 – Slakoth, the Slacker Pokémon. I sleeps for 20 hours a day and are hardly ever seen in motion. Very efficient on energy, they subsist on three leaves a day and their heart beats only once a minute. Just looking at one makes one drowsy, so they’re sometimes prescribed against insomnia.

‘Alright, so search the top of trees,’ Anise said, back on the forest floor with Basil. She took out a Pokéball and opened it, and with a flash of light her Froakie came out, not minding the rain at all as the big-eyed blue frog looked around in mild curiosity.

Pokédex Entry #656 – Froakie, the Bubble Frog Pokémon. It secretes flexible and delicate bubbles from its chest and back which absorb damage that would otherwise damage it. While it is known for a happy-go-lucky attitude, it has astute awareness of its surroundings.

‘We’re looking for Pinsirs in the trees. Go up there and help his Hawlucha,’ Anise told, and Frokie happily nodded and skipped up to climb the trees.

‘… Hm,’ Anise made a noise, peering curiously at the trees. ‘When looking for Pokémon high in trees, isn’t there a move that’s usually used? Like, to make them fall down to us rather than us climbing up to them?’

If Basil’s decently read up on Pokémon, that should ring a bell. Wasn’t there such a move that is commonly used to bring a Pokémon down from the top of a tree?

Could it also be that one of the Pokémon in his current team just so happens to know this move?

@hatakekuro

‘Hm. Useful little thing. Most other trainers don’t get one,’ Anise commented about the Pokédex, and of course the ones that’d been applauding couldn’t have known he had a Pokédex so it was impressive because of that, too.

In any case, it was time to go find a Pinsir. The Bug Maniac had told him the place to go was Northern Silent Forest, where it always rained. Therefore, the best way to go was to briefly go into Route 3, and then cross the fence to veer left and into the forest proper. Here, the fantastical lights of the northern forest lit themselves up as if to welcome him.

So, what exactly was it that he was going to do in order to find what he’s looking for?

Anise has followed him, and has her Meditite sitting on her shoulders using weak Psychic power to create a psychic umbrella over her so she doesn’t get wet. Meditite doesn’t seem to mind, in fact, she looks pretty zen. Froakie was also out jumping at her side, looking around for interesting sights.

The stage was a merry-go-round. A larger, round platform rotated clockwise in the middle, and around it a series of smaller platforms rotated counterclockwise around it, while they themselves also rotated clockwise in the water. Nothing in this stage stood still.

Cheerful festival music began playing, accompanied by Dan’s voice.
“Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to be amazed and awed, as our competitors take to the spotlight on board on the Ferry-Go-Round! A challenging stage for any Keijo performance, the rotating platforms are sure to perplex and befuddle!”

A spotlight shone on the first competitor to arrive.
“In the north corner we have the Snowflake Fighter, the Furious Frostbite, Victoria!”

Victoria was dressed as usual, in her little bikini and her long purple hair flowing. She waved at the audience, ready to show what she truly amounted to. She stood on one end of the rotating platform, her arms crossed, smirking confidently.

It was an amusing little thing. She was one of the few that could actually win against Freya. More accurately, she was someone Freya just simply couldn’t beat. Mariette had said that the less powerful should surrender, but Victoria honestly believed she stood a better chance than Freya in the battles ahead. Sure, Freya was stronger and faster than Victoria, but Freya couldn’t attack the opponent with fifteen different versions of herself at once. Victoria was confident she’d be able to pull some clever tricks to beat her enemies in the future…

So she wasn’t surrendering.

So now it was just a question of her opponent…

“And in the south corner, we have the Notorious Naga, the Union Beast herself, Freya!”

… But nobody appeared. There was silence for numerous seconds, before Victoria laughed out loud.

‘Oh? You’re just gonna give me the win? I understand! I’m a bit disappointed, but I’ll take it! In the grand scheme of things, it’s probably the wisest cause of action! Hahahaha!’ Victoria celebrated her victory…

Then, a portal deposited a letter to Dan, who caught it with a look of surprise on his face; inside was a piece of paper with a simple message.

After the dolphin read it, he spoke to the microphone.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Freya has decided to substitute another player in her stead! Please give a warm welcome to our mystery duelist!”

Then someone jumped from the stands. When her feet met the rotating platform, there was a splash as the brown-haired girl’s weight was somewhat heavier than that of a regular human. She stood up straight and looked towards Victoria on the opposite end, the rotating platform making their position relative to the audience constantly shift. The girl’s body looked human, but it was actually composed of something else. For whatever reason, she was wearing glasses.

Esther stood in her swimsuit, a blue and flowery bikini, standing staring blankly at her opponent.

“Introducing the Stoic Beauty, the Mysterious Madam...Esther!”

‘You… you cheater, hahaha,’ Victoria stated, laughing a bit as she looked over her apparent unflinching opponent. ‘So they put you up to facing against me. They think you can beat me. Very well. I’ll just have to prove them wrong, eh?’ Victoria stated, smirking and leaning her head back a little. Esther hadn’t moved. ‘Well, guess there’s not gonna be much banter in this battle. Shall we get rolling?’ she asked, and the icy witch and the mute tree faced off.

“Without further ado, let’s begin! Battle!”

VS

Victoria grinned as she just stood there, and spawns of herself started jumping out of her. One, two four, eight, Victoria viciously used her mana to create copies of herself that spewed out around her and jumped off onto varying rotating platforms. Numerous of them ran forward to confront Esther directly.

Esther calmly advanced at walking speed, her eyes not even moving to acknowledge that she was being surrounded by clones.

“Victoria starts by duplicating herself into nine!” Dan commented. “While a powerful weapon, it can prove fatal on her part!”

‘Haha, with your agility, you could never keep up with me!’
‘You better give up or be launched!’ Victoria duplicates taunted as they rushed in at Esther. Esther wasn’t as agile or as strong as the physical fighter with a myriad of duplicates that surrounded her, but there were two other stats which Esther thoroughly defeated Victoria in.

Two duplicates slammed their butts into Esther’s side, and another jumped to slam her (diminutive) chest into Esther’s shoulder, and they all connected. They were all aimed for the same side as to send Esther into the drink. However, while Esther recoiled, she didn’t move much at all. Under her feet, plants grew, and roots had rooted themselves inside the rotating platform making her resist the blows.

“And Esther stands her ground without breaking a sweat! What incredible durability!”

‘Haha, that’s fine! That’s fine! I’ll just let you take a pounding until-’ a duplicate said, swinging her butt towards her target… only for Esther to completely spin in place, as if her legs weren’t even connected to her feet, and Esther’s (significantly larger) chest slammed into the duplicate’s head while the hip the duplicate had been aiming for just kind of bent inhumanly out of the way. The confused duplicate broke into a million shards of ice and a dozen or so Victorias grunted at the same time.

“And Esther slams, shattering a clone into submission! It seems our enigmatic entrant is more than mere appearances suggest!”

Because when your whole body is composed of a material your magic controls, you’re not really constrained to the form of the human body. Esther had demonstrated this as her body reassembled into human form, after both her hips and her feet had deformed out of regular shape. Her expression was as blank as ever.

‘So you do understand the rules of Keijo. I was wondering if perhaps your mind was completely gone, but I guess that proves you’re pretty aware in there!’ a Victoria stated, and the duplicates started to run again, around this rotating platform.

‘Well, that’s fine! I just need to break your roots!’ a Victoria shouted, and revealed herself to be the real deal as she slammed her hands down into the platform, and a freezing streak of magic carried itself through the platform intended for beneath Esther, intent on freezing and breaking her root-system. As she did a crowd of five duplicates descended on Esther at the same time, intent on taking full advantage of when the roots broke…!

CRACK

The platform broke apart. Multiple Victorias suddenly stumbled, only due to great awareness didn’t any stumble into the drink. One of them had no choice but to leap straight over Esther’s position, while another was about to stumble in but was kicked at full power by another duplicate, sending its icy shards of disassembly flying.

Victoria looked down with alarmed eyes, and saw how there was a web of tree-branches inside the platform that had broken it apart, placing Esther on a tiny island and creating giant cracks across the rest of it, separating her and the Victorias. Even more alarming, there were roots growing underwater, hunting for the rotating platforms around the stage, piercing into them and taking them under Esther’s control. A single root was hunting downwards, and soon connected to the bottom of the pool and giving Esther a single wooden platform to stand on.

Dan was excited at this turn of events. “How cunning! Esther had single-handedly split the very platform she was standing and created a new one, nearly trapping Victoria’s clones in the water! ”

‘Pah. Have you forgotten who you’re fighting?’ Victoria asked, frowning. She took a step forward, looking like she was stepping right out to fall into the water, yet under her foot the water turned to ice, and then started to spread across the area of water around Esther. The real Victoria made a head-gesture, and the crowd of duplicates jumped in around her and placed their hands on her so that she could put some extra magic inside them.

‘I’m not as magically powerful as Tullia. I can’t shoot ice-beams or bring out a blizzard to envelop everything in snow. But, I CAN freeze this water, and I can brawl the everliving heck out of you, and that’s what matters in Keijo!’ Victoria declared as the platforms were being broken apart by roots around them. She pointed forward, and all the duplicates on the ice prepared themselves.

‘Victorias! Advance!’ she shouted, and as the real one was freezing the water beneath their feet as they ran at Esther.

“Victoria is freezing the water, just like Tullia did back in round one!” Dan added. “And she has gone on an all-out offensive! How will Esther respond?”

Esther gazed at them blankly, perhaps coldly, and…

‘KAH!’ a Victoria clone shouted out in alarm, as Esther’s roots started breaking through the ice in front of her from underwater. Victoria grunted and just applied more magic. Not her strongest suit, but she started trying to freeze the roots trying to break their footing from underneath. A magical battle took place at the water’s surface…

“Esther has launched roots through the ice, like a hungry kraken grasping at vikings!”

While above the water the Victoria duplicates launched at Esther! Esther wasn’t as agile as them, but her body moved to try to counter and bent out of the way of some attacks. That said, she wasn’t quite as physically competent as Victoria, and there were a lot of Victorias. Esther’s swinging of her chest and rear in unnatural angles managed to take one or two off guard and shattered them into ice, but on the whole the Victorias were now far more wary of Esther’s unnatural movement and scored far more hits back; hits that Esther definitely felt but didn’t send her flying because she was rooted to the wooden platform she was standing on. Yet, it was definitely clear. In this battle, Esther was losing, and being unable to actually strike Victoria with her superior magic it meant Victoria was winning. The duplicates just needed to land enough blows to tear her from her roots, and they sure were, hitting durable Esther with chest-slams and rear-butts over and over…!

‘Hahaha, you scared me there, but controlling the terrain isn’t enough when you can’t fight back with it…!’ Victoria announced…!

Then she felt herself descend a bit.

‘… What the-’ Real Victoria looked down in shock as her duplicates kept attacking Esther. What was that? She was definitely lower than she was before. Yeah, the battlefield level had gone down a bit, and Esther’s platform had risen a little. What was?

‘Oh, you gotta be-’ Victoria suddenly realized. It wasn’t that the stage was going down. It was the amount of water in the pool. The water-level in the pool was descending because someone was drinking it. All Esther’s roots underwater were absorbing water…!

Esther shot a blank look back at the attacking Victoria’s, suddenly filled with more power. A powerful vine grabbed around her legs and shot into the air, forcing the duplicate Victorias to leap backwards! Esther suddenly towered above them, a wooden vine holding her high… before suddenly descending rapidly!

“I can’t believe it!” Dan shouted. “Esther is draining the pool itself of water with her roots! At this rate, if she drains the entire pool...there won’t be any Keijo! Oh, the humanity!”

‘Eeep!’ Victoria duplicates started crying out as the giant wooden vine swung Esther at them at high speeds, butt-first, and then swung her back chest-first, impacting a duplicate each time and sending the shards of ice flying. It was basically impossible to hit Esther as she was being swung around by her own magic, but…

‘Haha, you just created a massive weak spot…!’ Real Victoria grinned as she dashed off at massive speed towards the place where the vine was sticking out of the water, a sword of ice manifesting in Victoria’s hands. Dodging the giant vine would be easy for someone with her agility, and since the vine wasn’t part of Esther’s real body Victoria could slice it through with a weapon, and then Esther would come crashing down into the water due to having broken all the platforms…! Her roots took some time to manifest, she wouldn’t be able to make a new one to save her from splashing into the water! Her fate would be sealed…!

Instead of swinging at her, though, the wooden vine suddenly rose straight as an arrow, becoming a straight tower sticking out of the water, Esther at the top. Victoria was mid-flying at the tower to slice it through, but she did think this was odd, what was Esther doing up there-

‘AH-!’ Victoria made a horrified noise of realization.

The tower was no longer connected to the bottom of the pool. Over time, Esther had made other connections that were more diagonal underwater, and then removed the main pillar that held up her root-system. Meaning…

Esther did a small jump, then KICKED her tower with all her might. Like a rod of kinetic bombardment, the tree lost all support and rushed with massive force down into the water. As it did, the rod was connected by roots to Victoria’s icy platform, as the icy girl had so kindly frozen the roots and incorporated said roots into the ice, so they were fundamentally interlinked with the wooden tower. This, of course, meant that when the tower went underwater, so too did the ice all the Victorias were standing on, pulled along by the massive force of the tower and the roots connected to it.

Dan screamed: “And Esther kicks the tower, sending the Victoria’s plummeting!”

‘GAH-!’ ‘NO-!’ ‘WHA-!’ ‘ACK-!’

There were varying screams from duplicate Victorias as the very ice they stood on was pulled underwater. Real Victoria was magical enough that she could jump and establish a new frozen island to stand on, but her duplicates were not so fortunate. Not all of them managed to react in time, and those who did didn’t all have the magic to establish a new frozen platform so quickly, and Real Victoria didn’t have the magic to freeze that big an area for them all. In the end, numerous duplicates splashed into the water as the tower dragged their ice down underneath them, and Real Victoria landed on an icy platform but could but gaze in stunned shock at her duplicates splashing angrily in the water.

‘OH, MOTHER-’ Victoria then abandoned English to curse loudly and explicitly in Russian, a language her player isn’t brave enough to try to curse in. A second later Esther, as expressionlessly as always, fell into the water with a big splash. Nope, she no longer had anywhere to land after sending her tower underwater, she just knew she’d have won already at that stage.

“What an incredible match, ladies and gentlemen!” Dan popped out floating over the water.
“This one is going for the records. Esther wins!”

‘There was something weird with that coin Sally dropped! Try to obtain it!’ Jelena called before being taken away by Lea into the Overcity.

Then there was that part of it appearing in the Overcity.

‘The signal reappeared. It’s in the Overcity,’ the girl said, as she received the signal through Lea’s hole in reality. ‘Lea, do you copy? It was in the Overcity, at coordinates <given coordinates>.’

Mariette immediately opened a couple portals to take the Overcity team as close as reasonably possible. Maybe Overcity had rules against portalling in, if not, basically right above the coordinates.

‘Hmpf. They dare flee through the Overcity? The Overcity is my home. I will find whatever trace they left behind! Tullia, Freya, let’s go!’ she announced, and departed at once, with the fastest and possibly one of the strongest teams that Mariette could gather, backed by Lea’s speed, Freya’s strength and Tullia’s magical prowess.

‘Good~’ Suzette-illusioned-into-sexy-dolphin said, and was going to start taking sultry steps towards Guardsman Dan… when prime teleported in and flipped the box and it seemed the game was up. Whelp, time to bail. Sexy dolphin Suzette gave Guardsman Dan a wink and then ran for it.

There’s something to be said about the ridiculous amount of luck this girl was carrying, that apparently not even Josefin’s presence was giving them any boons. That said, the instant she saw that Mayra cloaked herself and Josefin with a stealth-darkness spell, leaving Ronja to take the blame.

Ronja tilted her head at the bound Lily in her arms pressed up against her chest.

‘My, my. How do you keep ending up in these situations, Lily?’ Ronja asked, then looked up at the immediate issue. There was Sally, Rachel and Alexander all way too intent on making her release the poor girl. Not that she had any intentions of holding onto her. Still, there was something she could do with this. She leaned down to whisper to Lily.

‘You’re a believer in justice, aren’t you? … Sally has a magic coin she used to steal the Black Mirror with. Mariette would be very happy if you could help us find out how she did it,’ she whispered, and then smirked, before looking up towards the incoming threats.

‘Ops, my mistake,’ Ronja said, letting the webs unravel from Lily and then gently lobbing her over towards Alexander. ‘I do wonder, however. Was all of Beacon complicit with the theft of the Black Mirror… or was this a rogue action by one Shamrock Sally who may have stolen it for a different faction altogether?’ Ronja said, and figured that if Rachel was not complicit with this, she may be furious.

‘If you were not complicit with the crime of stealing the Black Mirror, then allow me to read her mind. We shall find out both where the Mirror was taken, and if Sally has a more sinister side she has yet to reveal to you. Feel free to summon Alicia, and she will know I speak the truth.’ So Ronja said.

Meanwhile, in the darkness.

‘Hahahaha, did you see that insane timing!? The briefings weren’t lying about her luck…!’ Mayra laughed quietly, holding onto Josefin.

‘G-geesh… That is ridiculous… I’m not used to seeing that happen to anyone but me…’ Josefin said, but shook her head. ‘Don’t worry! I believe in my luck! If we just wait, the opportunity will present itself…!’ she asserted, and they’d wait in the darkness, and/or follow Sally if she tried to depart. Worst case scenario, Mayra would totally throw Josefin at Sally. To see who’s really the luckiest.

Then, left at the scene of the crime… was Mariette, Jelena and Taihei.

‘… Right, I think I’m just gonna leave so I don’t make things worse…’ Taihei said, turning and walking away.

Correction, there was Mariette and Jelena!

Jelena scanned for more magical somethings, while Mariette stood inspecting the two round puddles. Two round, tiny puddles that for some reason seemed familiar. Her player currently has no idea if Mariette is supposed to recognize these two puddles. Is this someone’s breasts? Someone’s butt? It definitely would make sense if it had something to do with Sonia, but, meh. Water? Does that mean whoever came here did so from somewhere with water? There’s not a lot of water-girls. Eh, I don’t frickin’ know.

Anyway, that’s just a setup, because now a couple people appeared and it’s time for a collab at the crime-scene.
