The Job af the Assassin and Life of the Prince

Eliezer had not expected the lady to cry. He froze for a moment, at a complete loss as to what to say or do to alleviate the situation. He only listened as she started to speak, practically revealing most of her life story to him. When she brought her pocket watch out to show to him, it crossed his mind that he found its aesthetic to be rather familiar, though, he was unable to remember where exactly he had seen similar designs. He did not ponder over it for long, for his mind was on Raven's emotional state. He now understood the feelings she was struggling with whenever the both of them met. Their relationship brought back memories of her own parents, who were no longer with her. What he still did not understand, however, was why she still desired to be with him, if doing so was giving her so much grief. Was it all because she was determined to do for him what her mother did for her father? Was this... love?

He was curious about who exactly was responsible for her parents' deaths, but again, this was no time to inquire about such a thing. He had distressed her with his words due to his own worries, and it was up to him to rectify the situation. However, it was one in which he had not been given any instruction on what to say and how to act. His mind went back to what she had said her mother did to comfort her father when he had broken down, and not thinking any further, he stepped forward and put his arms around her, pulling her close. Right after the action, he immediately questioned what he had just done, and wondered if it had even been appropriate to do, though, he was able to find words as he continued to hold her.

"Does this... make you feel better? Do forgive me, my lady, I did not mean to upset you."

He then pulled away slightly so that he could look her in the eyes, and reached up to wipe her tear-stained face with the cuff of his sleeve. "An embrace. Such a gesture is performed to induce positive emotions, as well as to express affection, is it not? Regretfully, it is not a way in which I am used to expressing myself. For the longest time, I have only received them from my brother. At times, it would be to offer me comfort when he senses that I am troubled. Usually, it would be to assure me that I am valued and appreciated. By embracing you now, I wish to do both. I do not want you to be sad. I also want you to know that I am immensely grateful for the care you have shown me."

After removing her tears, he subconsciously proceeded to twirl a lock of her hair around his finger as he continued to gaze at her. "Is love... actually possible for me? Could I truly have it all? You have given me an example of what a powerful force love can be. I have always been too afraid to pursue it, to hope that things could be better for me if I would just push myself to find out more, but here you are, giving it to me straight. You have shown me what a coward I've been to resist it all this time. Beneath the front I've been putting up, the front I had always thought was who I truly was, has been somebody simply too afraid to take a chance at happiness."

He then let go of her and took a small step back. "This realization... perhaps I haven't fully accepted it yet. It all seems so absurd at this moment that I know not whether to laugh or cry. My brother would jest that I am incapable of either, but I'm willing to admit that it might be true. Again, I understand your difficulty in finding me 'normal'. Considering the fact that you had met Mathazar first, it is a wonder that you did not fall for him instead of I."

The figure in black was fast, and extremely skillful. Kai did his best to keep up with them, but knew that he was about to lose them very soon. If he was to incapacitate them, he had to do it now. Without thinking any further, he cocked his pistol, took aim to the best of his ability, and fired. The sound of the gunshot rang through the deserted, dimly-lit area. The boy mentally kicked himself when he found that he had missed and let the figure get away. He had also possibly drawn unnecessary attention to himself by firing the gun. He then heard three whistles in a row, their source being the alley where he and the two grownups had left in pursuit of the mysterious spy. Seeing how there was not much left to do, he returned to the tavern area to investigate the origin of those whistles.

Peering over the tavern roof, he was relieved to see that it was Ratte who had been the one whistling, and dropped down to join her. "I couldn't stop the spy. They've gotten away with vital information about us. I... don't know where we can go now that we've been found out. I'm sorry."

R nodded, not taking much time to think before he relented. "Fine, we- we'll do that for you. Just calm down, please."

Meanwhile, Scarlet was left inside to listen to what else the viking duo had to say. "Well uh, sure thing, I'm almost done. Although the girl doesn't look too good, which is why the agents offered to take you there by... ship."

The scientist trailed off when Raven opened a portal anyway, sending half the group over to the location of interest. Lena felt sorry seeing Raven in such a state, though, being unfamiliar with the older girl's abilities, there was little she could do to help. She approached her before placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"I don't think you should have done that. Are you alright?"

Rex watched as the girl in the dark cloak created a portal to another location, instinctively questioning in his mind if she was an EVO before he remembered that he was currently in another dimension. Then again, these people could have brought in more than one person from his 'Earth', could they not? Besides, portal creation was an EVO ability he was all too familiar with as he was reminded of Breach once again. That girl had once captured him and put him in some other pocket dimension, though, he doubted that it was the same with Cinix. This seemed like a whole different level of inter-dimensional travel.

Before the Scarlet could say anything else, R walked back in to speak to her. "Cloud had requested that we give him access to Zack's timeline."

The redhead stared at him in horror, and responded in a hushed tone. "You didn't agree to that, did you? R, we don't know what that might do."

R raised an eyebrow at the scientist. "Considering the nature of this whole ridiculous project, that is something that you're worried about?"

Scarlet rubbed the bridge of her nose. "May I remind you that we are not the first ones to reveal Cinix to individuals from other dimensions?"

"Ugh, fine. Look, I just couldn't let J get hurt, okay?"

"Oh, how sweet," she retorted sarcastically.

"Shut up!"

"Where is J, though? Anyway, some of them have already left for the city, as you can see. You guys should go after them."

"She's getting the information on the reported attack. I'll take the rest to the hangar and we'll meet her there," he explained before turning to the exhausted teenager. "It's fine if you'd like to to stay here for this one. You don't look too good right now."

Down in the sewer, Link voice echoed through the dark, damp tunnels as she expressed her disgust at the place. It would reach the ears of its newly-arrived inhabitants, alerting them of the party that had come to investigate the source of the earlier commotion in the city. At the same time, the presence of the sewer dwellers would be made known to the heroes by the noise of their activity. If either group were to move towards the origin of the sounds they were hearing, they would find each other.

Eliezer had not expected Raven to arrive so soon, but he was glad that she did, and that she had even accepted the invitation in the first place. He had been under the impression that he had caused her too much frustration for her to concern herself with him again. Despite her tendency to bring up unfamiliar topics which would stay in his mind baffling him for a substantial amount of time, being with her, for some unexplainable reason, seemed to put him at ease. After being notified of his lady's arrival, he promptly made his way down to meet her.

He gave a polite nod as he approached her, before taking her hand and lightly kissing the back of it. "It is lovely to see you again, my lady."

He then signaled for the guards to leave them, and brought her outdoors and around the palace to a quiet garden area that was warmed and lit by the rays of the morning Sun. The bright, kempt greenery was adorned with small flowers of various colors, and the occasional chirping bird that fluttered by brought the place to life. As they leisurely strolled though the perfectly-trimmed shrubbery, Eliezer took a moment to let her appreciate their surroundings in silence before letting her in on what was on his mind.

"The night before, you asked me this question - what is it that I truly desire? Unfortunately, I don't yet have an answer for you. The difficulty I experience is not in identifying my desires, but in pondering over the question itself. You see, I have a responsibility to Dainia. The people of the kingdom depend on the competence of the royal family. What I fear, is going through the internal conflict that may be stirred by the thoughts of my desires. Considering what I am obligated to do, I do not believe I can afford to have such feelings. With that being said, I do not expect you to empathize with me."

He struggled to find a way to relate to her before continuing, hoping that he would successfully do so. "For the longest time, this garden has been my sanctuary. This is the place where I find peace and rejuvenate my mind when I am weary. Simply being here calms and comforts me, and lifts my spirits. The reason I have decided to share it with you today, is that it is something I find wonderful, something that has left such a positive impression on me. Perhaps you feel the same about this happiness, and this love that you have spoken of, which is why you wish to share it with me."

Eliezer then stopped and turned to face her. "I clearly recall the intense sadness you had expressed the night before as you made known to me the things that are important to you. Was that sadness for my ignorance? Is it so devastating to you that I do not understand such things? Tell me, my lady, do you still believe that they are worth pursuing, in spite of the consequences that may follow because of who I am?"
