Current I'm a pretty good writer and former site staff; I still deal with imposter syndrome every time I log on. You're definitely not alone. And t's worth trying anyway.

I just finished The Secret History, a very Gen X book. Never Let Me Go before that, which I'd recommend to any writer outside the MFA atmosphere who wants to know emotonal restraint.

Hmmm... Interested maybe, pending my ability to actually get something figured out. ^^; Considering a female Robin (or Robin impersonator maybe), or a Batgirl (same possible caveat as the Robin one), or... Something more original maybe? Hmmm.

...So yeah, if I can figure something out I guess.

I've seen this issue come up in Gotham games. I think maybe it helps to have a list to browse, if not to choose from, than to inspire an OC or even another canon. Also since you only mentioned female roles, I kept the list to females. Not all the characters you could throw into the game (I'd even take some of the Arrow chicks just off the top of my head) for canon, to say nothing of original ideas.

And keep in mind I don't mind tweaking or even doing your own version of canons. Creativity is always encouraged.

Not all of these are even heroes; but you're not limited to heroes. And some of these are more 'walking the line' (between good and evil) types than actually heroes or villains, anyway.

Man if I can play like a Renee Montoya type that'd be pretty cool

Cop-Renee, or Question-Renee could work. And naturally, someone I forgot while making the above list. lol

Ooh interested but not sure what I'd want to play, hero or mafia

Or both. I sometimes play a version of Helena Bertinelli that is mob boss by day, vigilante by night. More limitations to playing the heroes, in that as a mafia character...you could literally become the Don of Gotham City, assuming it was earned in the progression of the game and the story.

"That's what you have to hold on to. All of us are what we are because we lost something we thought we couldn't live without, and were proven wrong. We can survive without parents and without walking and even without always being able to protect the people we love. But we can't survive without knowing in our bones that we're not like them, not like the ones who stole from us."

Game Brief:

  • Batman first began to appear 15 years ago.
  • The Joker recently died in the chaos of one of his own schemes.
  • Jim Gordon effectively retires as Commissioner of the GCPD following Joker's death.
  • Batman hasn't been seen for nearly three days.
  • Will take place in Gotham City.
  • Street level characters only.
  • High Casual standards.

This game will focus on the Bat-family, and other faces of Gotham City, not Batman. It's a sandbox style with large events for everyone to tackle thrown in. For players wanting to have fun reading and reacting, you're more than welcome to get your character and settle in. For those players who are interested in story and plot development, you're more than welcome to participate. Just send me a PM, and I'll let you see what I got; any suggestions or tweaks or twists I like I'll be more than happy to incorporate into the game and give due credit for.

Batman may or may not be dead; but for certain he won't be around during the beginning stages of the game. Well, not Bruce-Batman, I suppose if someone wanted to play a Dick-Batman then there would be a Batman. But not the Batman. This is done to give the rest of the Bat family some room to breath, and grow, in a more natural and organic way. Otherwise Gotham City is your oyster; play a Mafioso looking to bring Mafia strength back to the city, play a young Detective in GCPD looking to take up Jim Gordon's legacy, or just create your own vigilante inspired by the Bat.

Any other questions, or comments, feel free.

No spoilers. I go see it on Friday.

(And again I complain. How has everyone seen it before me. D: I'm going opening day where I live. This sucks man. Sucks I tell you.)

And P.S. I should be getting posts up Monday. It's my day off and I have nothing else to do. I'm psyched.

I haven't seen it, either.

If I saw it without certain young children they would never, ever, forgive me. So I'll probably see it Thursday/Friday. I'm already cringing at the amount of comic questions my family's going to have after that movie, since they're packing so much into it.
Jean Grey tried to sit. She really did. But some things were about as possible as keeping a secret from a telepath; good luck to you. She sat for all three minutes--three whole minutes--before her body squirmed, and prompted further motion. Motion that rolled like a river into more motion. First, she stood, and looked her pretty eyes this way and that. Every few moments those eyes would sneak a peek back at the Chimp, and every time they did those semi-glossed lips of her's would threaten a small grin.

But it never came.

"Nice digs. It's got the vibe of an uber Private Dick."

The twelve year old in Jean let out a small snicker under her breath. Her eyes rolled to the ceiling; where her body soon followed--freeing itself from the bondage of gravity to float up, and up, and up--until she were a mere few inches below the ceiling. "Almost looks like water damage up here." One little part of the ceiling had a slight yellow tone to it. And while it might be water damage, Jean could instantly think of two other possibilities. But she was restless, and it helped to move. To fidget. To poke at ceilings.

At least, it helped her.

Judging by the quick-jerk nature of her host, Jean descended until her feet were firmly back in gravity's hands, her hands stuffing neatly into the pockets of her coat. When he told her "homicide doesn't have enough time" her mind flashed back to childhood, to Boston, to being at her parent's table at a charity function when city politics were invariably brought up. She remembered wealthy men and women from her parent's circles sighing about the state of Boston PD. Talking about it like it had gotten as bad as Detroit, or Gotham City.

It was a life, and circle of people, so far from where Jean currently found herself it almost felt like it all happened to another girl. Not Jean. Out his window she saw glimpses of Opal City; shadowy, bathed in the neon lights of the bars and clubs, or the pale yellow glow of the street lights. And if you weren't on a street with the neon lights or the street lights in Opal City...odds were you had bigger problems than darkness.

"...God saves, man kills." A quiet prayer under her breath, again, as she heard that Opal averaged a murder and a half every day. By the time she was done moving about the place, Jean had come around to his side of the desk, and leaned back on it's edge, just a foot away from where he sat, her head in his direction, her eyes pointed down at him. "So the lawyer of pimps and dealers has some touching concern over his clients--or maybe just their money. Given the nature of the victims, maybe it's just some street war you've lucked into?...or is that the kind of thinking Opal PD uses to rationalize not paying the murders much mind?"

It was a sneaking suspicion of Jean's, especially after touching upon a few minds of Opal's finest.
If you still got any room I'd love to join.

Ditto.
@Ruby One of these days we're going to have to rp. Be my master, teach me how to be awesome like you. ;D

Aw, I'd be your mistress any time. <3
<Snipped quote by Ruby>

Yeah I think I have that penciled in for this time in 2019.

Glorious.
<Snipped quote by Ruby>

Don't worry Ruby,

I'm still here.

And one of these days, we might even write together. ;)

Yeah, sorry for not letting you guys know. That was pretty uncool of me.

I've dropped out because I was having trouble coming up with posts for both Green Arrow and Miles, along with some disagreements I had with Mord, but it's all good. As far as I understand I left on good terms, and I really hope that that's the case. Regardless, I wish you guys the best of luck. Hopefully this game goes on for a while yet.

That's depressing. <3
