Current I'm a pretty good writer and former site staff; I still deal with imposter syndrome every time I log on. You're definitely not alone. And t's worth trying anyway.

Don't worry, D3AD ST4R, most of us feel like that. <33

I just finished The Secret History, a very Gen X book. Never Let Me Go before that, which I'd recommend to any writer outside the MFA atmosphere who wants to know emotonal restraint.

I disagree with the suggestion to delete the thread, that is precisely the sort of action that resulted in the eruption of this thread.

I think the base of every legit concern so far comes from a place of frustration. It's obvious they are feeling like they aren't being heard and their opinions are either being dismissed or outright censured. The ability to discuss things as a community is important, and while most people are content to lurk and talk behind closed doors, whatever is discussed in public has the notion that it's being seen. People want to see that they're being listened to, and unfortunately PMs are, well, private, and can feel inconsequential, especially when very little changes after the matter.

Please, I love this site and I actually like a majority of the people here. But you have to understand why people are acting the way they are. And ultimately, that's what all this comes down to: people feel they aren't being heard. I know I'm repeating myself but I have to emphasize on it because I genuinely feel that point is being missed.

What stops people from PMing myself or other staff?

Because the public discussions only go so far before they get personal, ugly, or both.

Would you be okay with me making a thread about the moderation policy on this site, then? Because if I cannot discuss it here, I would wish to discuss it elsewhere. If you claim this is not my platform, please let me make my own.

Go ahead. It will still be subject to site rules. So...be careful.

"Anti-mod thing"? Are you trying to insinuate that everyone criticizing your actions as mod/admin is only doing it because he's rebelling against authority, any and all authority, indiscriminately?

Didn't you call me every name under the sun a few years ago?

I KNOW you're not here in good faith.
In Ask an Admin, v2. 6 yrs ago Forum: News
Ruby, please do not delete my posts. I am genuinely not posting in bad faith. My post was about having a discussion about how mods should be held accountable, the issue I entered this thread with, and I was not attacking you personally even though people have been claiming that of me.

Not the thread for that. If you have questions I can answer that's fine but this isn't your platform for the anti-mod thing.

None of my posts are done out of bad faith, but because I've been on this site since i was 15 years old (im 21 now) and never have i been in trouble until now, because of unfair decisions made by moderators.

As is, I'm going to stop posting in this thread because I haven't gotten any substantial responses from you and I doubt any changes will ever be made. I'd be happy to have a conversation with Mahz himself if he could ever make time for a ember of the website he created.

My head is spinning. Your last ban sounds like site staff got you in the craze of whatever day it was the status bar was hijacked. That sucks for both parties but definitely for the ban. If you want PM me and I'll be happy to make sure that's what happened and no record of it was made. (Do it can't be weighed against you in the future.)
In Ask an Admin, v2. 6 yrs ago Forum: News
Maybe this is already being done and maybe my understanding of the situation is lacking. However, my suggestion would be to quickly review and likely roll back any controversial bans that lack merit, execute a policy of a written warning detailing the offense and consequences to a person violating TOS. If violations continue, issue a temporary ban for admins to review. I think it's only reasonable that a permanent ban have 2 admins sign off in agreement.

Also, in an effort to cease toxicity, I would also delete this thread. This is just giving negativity a platform. If anyone wants to Ask An Admin, they can contact the admins privately.

My two cents. Good luck!

I will say any further bad faith posts will be removed. So if you wanna throw hate do so in PMs.

Yet, I reached out about it and after I sent the PM on my alt, I was banned. I had asked for the reason, and I was given a short and curt response. So, I reached out and it wasn't cleared up at all, contrary to what you say ...

Site mods were banning alts and it wasn't until that ended that we were able to look back and make corrections.

Seems like the operating model could use some fine-tuning, both from a technical viewpoint and a procedural one.

Is the only one who can push updates to the site, Mahz?

As far as I know.

If people want to troll, they're going to find a way to do so; we've seen that from RPGO to the status bar.

Beyond that, posting in good faith is a requirement of this thread, so troll responses, even if there's a point behind them, are removed.

Going by the vast majority of posts by the creator of the thread here I can't see how being constructive or being a question/answer is a prerequisite of staying up, given the vast majority are rude, one-liner deflections rather than actual answers. I also don't really see how it was neither a question nor constructive, but alright, I'll humour you now that the question is "properly asked". Where are the proofs?

Nope that was anecdotal off the top of my head. Replace it with any other kind of thread if you want. Or Discord.

Shouldn't you give a timeframe, then, for the user to respond before banning them? That seems to be the only fair response.

While they ignore us and continue breaking site rules?

Let's admit there absolutely is no perfect solution here because there is no automated system for it.
