Well, what's just stopping him from sneaking up on someone? He looks human enough, and once someone/something gets close enough for him to grab I don't see why he wouldn't just be able to suck out their brains?

The Brainsuckers in Bloodborne are pretty good at this, and are basically Mindflayers.

He'd have to be smart with it, certainly, but once something gets caught by that I don't realistically see them getting away since he's eating their brain. Plus, he could theoretically bind something with telekinesis, given its strength was weaker than his mental abilities.

That's the way I'm going to probably be running things. I was honestly just mentioning it because I felt like it needed to be mentioned - and I am glad that I did. Intelligence is incredibly hard to classify across an entire group of people.

Anyways, enough of that.

Hmm...
Considering all of the suggested CS's so far seem to be somewhat morally correct people (at least as far as honor and a band of rogues and misfits are)

I think I'm just going to make a really, really, terrible ninja who's basically everything wrong with the world~ xD

Fine then. It seems we have a different idea of what human intelligence actually means, but I guess I'll have to accept Nazr's career change to a glorified animal tamer.

Edit: Now that I think about it, I suspect that you refer to sentience when talking about human intelligence. Creatures can be sentient without necessarily being as intelligent as humans. At least, that's how it goes for DnD.

...I think you're misunderstanding me. In traditional DnD scenarios, they may very well not be as intelligent as humans.

But this isn't DnD, as I have never played DnD or other such 'traditional' fantasy games as I really don't like them.

Basically - they may not be 'Sentient' or 'Intelligent' in DnD, but in this scenario, they are, since this isn't DnD. It's very difficult to quantify what 'intelligence' actually is. You can't very well say all humans are of the same intelligence. They all of the potential to be quite intelligent, but that doesn't make all of the human race geniuses.

Miné simply rolled her eyes as she walked off. He sounded just like...well, everyone else that had tried to tell her to 'straighten up' in some manner. She admittedly wasn't the nicest of people, and probably could have not been so hostile...put where was the point in putting on a smiley face when she really wasn't smiley? She bet that Muscle head was a lot less smiley when he wasn't putting one on for the students here...meh.

Whatever. She noticed Tonaka glaring, but it wasn't anything she wasn't used too and shrugged it off. Gah, she just wanted to find a nice quiet place to maybe play her guitar...

With a sigh, she moved onto the last of the tests. Side-jumps were fairly easy, though nothing spectacular. Toe-touches were similar. Her attempt with the punching meter was definitely above average, and she pretty much scored a perfect score on the whack-a-mole with the help of three barriers. Weight lifting was similarly easy, since she tended to do that on a regular basis. With her tests finished, she went back to the changing room and got out of her now sweaty clothes and waited for the others to finish.

Oops. Looks like she may have almost exploded his brain. He looked like the ugliest and dumbest pitbull on the planet had tried to understand how to build a rocket. She almost wanted to mess with him and see if she could actually make his head explode just from talking to him - it seemed like a definite possibility, but well, the offer he made intrigued her just enough to play nice.

Oh yes, she could use this...idiot definitely to her advantage in some manner, so getting in good with them could definitely help her long-term goal. Plus, if she could use them to possibly help get her on the inside as maybe an actual student again...she'd just need a student ID and proper history.

"And one I am inclined to agree too." She smiled beneath her mask. "So, lead me to this 'crew' of yours, and let's see what we can do against these so-called heroes, hmm? You may call me...Nat." Well, might as well use the name, hmm? It wasn't her actual name of course, but it was good enough to give to these people.

I didn't intend to use it on every encounter, just the more tougher ones, and I just suggested the use of the skill to the jungle party in case they wanted it. But since you're going to nerf it to oblivion like that I guess there's no point then.
I can accept that some groups like trolls are as intelligent as humans, but making all non-human groups as smart as humans in terms of intelligence seems too extreme of a measure to prevent Nazr from using the skill.

I wasn't getting pissy about anything, and I have certainly not Nerfed it. However, I admittedly perhaps had a wrong choice of wording there. By 'Non-humans' I meant anything humanoid, with a mouth, that can talk in some manner, and isn't some sort of mindless beast. Kobolds, 'Jungle Trolls', Goblins...this has all been planned before Nazr was even made. I find that making all non-humans 'unintelligent' is rather boring, and also rather extreme makes for interaction with them usually devolve into fighting.

While fighting is going to be a main focus of this RP, it's also exploration and discovery...which also includes mingling with other races of humanoid people.

You yourself are the one who gave it the limitation of it not affecting creatures of human level intelligence, and if you hadn't given it that limitation I would have just said straight up no since any sort of direct mind control is completely off limits in my opinion.

This is how I was planning to go about this; Nazr would never order a suicide, but maybe direct the creature(s) towards a different objective that fits with their state of mind, or just stay in a trance-like state so he could feed on a living brain or two. But I think basic kobolds at the very least should be considered less intelligent than humans; elite kobolds and chieftains can be smarter.

Additionally, what Supes here said. It won't be complete mind control, but against certain animals and beasts of higher-intelligence, but (not quite up there on the human spectrum) it will definitely give them 'suggestions' and hinder them in some way.

Nazr is more at home in dank caves, so he's going to the Grotto. Though if the other party wants mind control against the troll tribe he can be convinced to traverse the jungle.

Just gonna go ahead and say this before we start - I said don't go crazy with it, and I am going to be somewhat strict in it's usage so things don't get too easy or a cake walk for you guys.

As you put in his CS, it'll only work against creatures with less than human 'intelligence'.

Now, something like that is very difficult to completely judge. These Jungle Trolls? Yeah, they're just as smart as your average human. They might have a different culture, language, and might seem less so because humans tend to look down on different groups of humans, but they're just as 'intelligent' as them. Same go for Kobolds, Gnolls, and any other group of non-humans you will all meet.

His mind control will be less effective against certain things as you might think as well. Fish, dogs, those Piranha Hounds and other animals....they would easily be dealt with by his Mind Control. Probably at least. There will definitely be some exceptions.

This seems like it could be fun, though I'm not one to do Advanced RP's all that often.

If there are some spots that are still open, I'm thinking about perhaps playing a Ronin/Samurai type character who is disgraced because it's rumored she murdered her lord and is currently questioning things like what 'Honor' and 'Loyalty' means.

Obvious reasons as to why she was arrested are obvious~ xD

Failing that, I might go for a more ninja-type character, if the first is to similar to another characters idea. A drink loving, kunoichi who hits on anything with legs and will probably always be up to some sort of mischief~

If there's no room for little 'ole me, that's fine as well. I'll wait until a spot does open.
