For the most part, it's general element manipulation. However, usage of magic has drawbacks and different magic has different consequences. For example, using shadow magic does not allow you to summon things; rather, the drawback is that it lowers your character's sanity and they'll soon start to see things that shouldn't be there. But yes, you are allowed to be more creative in your usages of magic. Provided you run those creative juices with the GMs first.

Works for me. Also, seeing as some people are going to be insane by the end of the roleplay (save for Maria) I think I'll just go down a very bloody route instead of dealing with shady mad jick that will drive him mad.

And I just realized how to make him a Blue Mage... maybe. Depends on if you find bludgeoning cruel beasts to death with a book and in return, procuring a certain type of... knowledge ok in your books.
