So I have been on the Guild for a long, long, long, long, long, long, LONG time. I first joined the OldGuild around, my best guess would be 2012? I've been active in the Star Wars scene on the Guild since then, there have been very few games based around that genre that I haven't at least nosed my way in on. My very first game was a Star Wars game and that's what actually really got me into the Star Wars Franchise.

It's weird to think but I am such a major Star Wars nerd these days, yet before I was on the Guild I wasn't. I got into a Star Wars RP, got onto the Wikia, and then away I went into a spiral of nerd-om that I currently live within. I've grown since then, I game quite a bit, I write when I can. I have a wikia full of a lore to my own original creative universe and play around with some 'cool' comic book nerds.

Flashes of anger and pain. Fighting together on Geonosis, Abafar, Kuat and many other worlds. Time spent in the trenches huddled together for warmth, for safety. Mevenn heard the tiny clawed feet as Kresst entered the hold, likely having been alerted to what was going on by the explosion. Now she couldn't even control her own damned ability, what kind of soldier was she? What kind of Jedi? Kresst didn't understand, saying that she did what she was trained to do. She hadn't, she had defended herself and killed her brothers and her friends. There had to have been another way, some way to break whatever mind control had been used on them. Some way to incapacitate them without killing them. They were her brothers, almost in the way to which they were to eachother.

Mevenn lifted her head, anger came off her in waves, tears still ran down her cheeks. "I did what I had to do?"

She visibly scoffed. "We're trained to be soldiers, peacekeepers. We're meant to be the most honourable and skilled individuals the Republic has to offer. Yet when something happens, something truly awful instinct kicks in and everyone winds up dead." She stood up and began to pace. "I didn't do what I have to do, no. What I had to do was - I had to." She slammed her fist into the wall as she struggled to come up with a solution to what happened. "I had to de-escelate the situation. That's what I had to do, I had to- Find a way to snap them out of it. No. What I did was what I was trained to do."

"Ugh." Mevenn reached down and pulled her lightsaber from her belt, tossing it to Kresst. "Maybe you should hold onto that. Make sure I don't kill you, since apparently that's what I do now. Kill people I work with, people who I trust with my own life."
But...but my new laptops here and I'm into my next post.

There's certainly a mixed bag when it comes to this topic, but I've always been in stronger agreement with at least taking the time to read as much as you can through each post in order to gain a better understanding of the characters, their influences, as well as an overall feeling of the mood/setting, etc. Also, I find reading through (rather than getting a summary), helps a new player when it's time to actually write out a post because their character feels that much more embedded in the story as though they'd been there the whole time.

Summaries, however, are a great alternative to at least gain a basic understanding of what's going on, but for a player who might be serious about really sinking into the role, there's no substitute for reading cover to cover.

Rawk your back! I'm going to be making a SpaceCop. Come be my partner, crime fighting duo!

Said new player could start low, looking into said previous plot and then blackmail the blackmailer!

The possibilities are endless!

Apologies if I implied it should be mandatory, I'm not near naïve enough to believe that any GM would enforce that. As you said, it's a very good practice that should be encouraged especially towards making this world feel persistent and player contribution valued. Nothing keeps a player committed quite as much as validation that their posts matter.

I agree, especially if down the line someone wants to be like, a Senator and there was a subplot of senators going around blackmailing eachother or something.

Previously in this thread there have been discussions for major events to be logged and a sort of summarized history created and tracked. That said, I stand by my previous statement in that players should invest the time into reading old posts and threads if they want to get the most out of the game.

Look at it this way, you can jump right into an ongoing television series and after a bit you'll start to find your way around but there will still be a lot of continuity lost on you. Most people would binge the previous seasons to get caught up and I do believe that should be the case when joining an ongoing roleplay especially one larger in size where player actions will make up the majority of the world's shape.

I don't think it should be mandatory but then I agree that it should be encouraged as good practice. Especially for players wanting to make more influential characters.
There is also no reason to limit force users, as a single WW1 era conventional weapon can slaughter legions of Jedi and Sith up to and including Vader levels of power. And this weapon type would have great issues with droids, giving a great power triangle if PvP is ever a factor.

Untrue. Slug throwers are deadly against Jedi as they aren't used to fighting kinetic weaponry, and their go to response to being shot at is to block with a lightsaber. As @Ellri will tell you that isn't the best thing to do.

Bullets are physical items that can be caught with the Force. In terms of tech level it's The Old Republic, so things from around the period of 3647BBY
