Biography: Rorik grew up on the small farmstead just south of Windhelm, raised by his parents who were staunch supporters of the Stormcloak cause. With both of his parents having fought for the Stormcloaks. With tales of the warrior’s life told by his parents, Rorik always dreamed of rising high in the ranks of the Stormcloaks from a very young age. In his youth he pretended to fight in wars with sticks with his brothers and sisters and other children on the other farms. As he started to get older, he helped in his fathers’ forge making simple tools and weapons. Constantly beating metal and fighting started to build muscle in him, he also grew fast becoming very tall, even for a Nord.

When he was old enough, he joined the Stormcloak army and this is where he started to get his first taste of warfare fighting small skirmishes in the reach against the Forsworn. Rorik believed what he was doing there made a difference fighting against people who were destroying his homeland. With his size and strength, Rorik became known as a great fighter, even though he wasn’t the most skilled.

A few years later after not much success stopping the Forsworn completely, Rorik and his company were sent back to Windhelm, the city where he originally signed up. They had a few days off to see their loved ones which Rorik did. On his way home, he passed a mine where some local guards were hanging a Dunmer. Rorik didn’t ask to why they were killing the Dunmer but something didn’t sit well with him. When he was home, this is when he learned about how the Dark Elves had been forced to work the mines, basically becoming slaves for the Stormcloaks. His parents didn’t really care about it, but it wasn’t the reason has to why he signed up to fight and the ideals that his parents had told him of a free Skyrim for the Nords. He didn’t believe that the way to gain freedom from the Empire and the Thalmor was to enslave others. Everyone should be free Rorik thought, but Skyrim should just be governed by Nords. He started to see that his views were different to the views of what he was fighting for and he’d been too stupid to realise it.

A few days later when he was back in Windhelm, he wanted to visit the Gray quarter to see what kind of state it was in. When he was walking through, he thought it seemed more like a giant prison than a place to actually live. The buildings were close to falling down and there were shanties all in the alleyways with the Dunmers looking half starved to death. He came upon some guards beating up an old Dunmer and laughing and this is the moment Rorik’s mind was made up. He stormed over there and started to attack the guards. He managed to take out two of them but there was too many and they piled on him. He was thrown in the stocks for a few days, with the guards claiming he attacked them in a drunken rage for no reason. The moment he was released from the prison, he went to buy some iron armour and an iron battle axe and deserted the Stormcloaks, throwing away his uniform. As he travelled around Skyrim doing odd jobs, giving different names and never staying anywhere for too long, he started to hear about a resistance against the Stormcloaks led by a man from Windhelm. Rorik was unsure what to do because he had an idea what they did to deserters but he headed there anyway trying to find a way to sneak into the city.

Personality and General Disposition: Rorik is a friendly, outgoing Nord who always tries to see the best in people. He will try and defend people even if it leads to him getting into trouble. Probably the worst trait about Rorik is that he isn’t really the brightest, he can take a while to understand a joke and even finds it hard to understand the intricacies of plots and the arts of politics.

Allegiance/Loyalties: Ex Stormcloak Soldier. His loyalties lie with whoever need his help.

Equipment/Gear: Some plain made iron armour and an iron battle axe. He keeps some gear on his horse that has some different clothes that he wears under his armour, a tent and some hunting equipment, he also carries some gold.

Skills and Abilities: Rorik’s main skill is just his pure strength when he’s gotten a hold of his axe. He also can take quite a lot of pain. When he was in the army, he learned a few simple hunting tricks on how to set up traps and also how to skin and cook animals. Also has the slightest knowledge of blacksmithing.

Lilaia

• Character Name: Lilaia Storm-Step

•Character Appearance: I'll make a character in Skyrim later and take a screen shot, yes?

• Short Biography: Lilaia grew up with her Nord mother on their farmstead. Her father was a spellknight in service to the local Breton king, but her mother had insisted on doing something productive with her time. As Lilaia grew older and more difficult to entertain, the two of them took to exploring local ruins. It was a chance to see the history of the area for herself, and put her father's magic lessons to the test at the same time.
Her talents as a historian and a mage became apparent, and her father afforded her the opportunity for greater learning, as apprentice to a local lord's court wizard. It didn't take her long to absorb the lessons and be sent on to another court wizard, a pattern to be repeated a few times before she would lament to her mother that her teachers, though perfectly knowledgeable and capable wizards, were terrible teachers. It was then she would learn of the College of Winterhold, though at the time, the distance was greater than her motivation.
She knew her mother was from Skyrim, and she did have an interest in that side of their history, but there was yet more in High Rock. Ironically, it would lead her to Skyrim. She was out exploring, looking for new ruins in places she hadn't been, when she found traces of an entire Wyrd that had disappeared. The traces led her East.
The end of her trail was already bloody and rather disappointing. The Wyrd had been pursued and then both the Wyrd and their pursuers had been annihilated. By this point, she was already in Skyrim, a land rich with the history of her mother's people. As long as she was here, halfway to Winterhold, it seemed like a worthwhile stop. They should even have soul gems. After the first time she found soul gems inside of a ruin, she knew she had to spend some time in Skyrim.

•Personality and General Disposition: Lilaia is studious lass with a calm demeanor, though she holds a fierce regard toward acts that might disrupt the preservation of historical specimens. She likes sweetrolls baked with cinnamon and good wine, though she certainly won't complain about honey ale to go with a slab of meat.

• Allegiance/Loyalties: Lilaia is vaguely tied to the kingdoms of western High Rock, but no formal allegiance exists there.

• Equipment/Gear: Lilaia wears light armor she's enchanted herself, finding it easy enough to cast spells with a little practice articulating. She conjures her weapons, though has a sword at her side that she made with an alloy she's experimenting with, trying to cross light weight with strength. And a backup axe.

• Skills and Ability: Lilaia excels in preparation. She's been making her own armor and repairs for a while, selling the old off and buying materials to make a replacement when she got the materials together to make another enchantment. She's also been working on a technique to enchant a bound weapon on summoning, and has been waiting to perfect the technique before trying it out on an atronach. She usually fights with her bound bow, sword, or destruction spells, and is a decent healer. She hasn't had much exposure to combat besides hostile creatures in ruins and self-defense on the roads of Skyrim. If you could see them coming from far enough, a barrage of arrows and firebolts from a fire atronach could usually turn them around.

THE LEGEND

The Legend of the Black Tanoness is well known among both men and elves. The story first dates back several decades ago when Tanon Erik Desdemona died of an unusual illness after mere days of sickly struggle. His wife - Margot - assumed the throne as Tanoness of Greywold immediately after.

Tanoness Margot was met with mixed reception among the folk of Greywold and the surrounding fief. The nobility in particular cared little for her as she gave them less ear and leeway than her husband and also raised taxation and ordered them to commit more soldiers to the frontier and countryside. This would eventually lead to a growing conspiracy against the Tanoness.

Just short of two years after taking the throne Margot would lose the support of most of the nobility after having three noblemen’s sons jailed for reasons that remain unclear. This paired with a recent heavy conscription of more troops to be sent west to fight the orcs as well as wild accusations of witchcraft and other depravities would also see the Tanoness lose most of her remaining support in the fief. Only her closest retainers and the people of Greywold itself remained loyal.

One evening on her return from visiting her cousin in neighboring Kenverhold the Tanoness was assaulted in the entry hall of the castle by a combination of armed conspirators and hired assassins. Tanoness Margot was unharmed but she lost several of her best vanguard as well as her castle steward in the attack. The attackers were all killed save for one man who was tortured for information, eventually giving up the remaining conspirators who were all arrested and publicly beheaded.

This did not put an end to the discontent however and several months later Margot was poisoned via a tainted chalice of wine. She survived but was rendered blind from the attempt on her life and her body was noticeably weakened from the poison. Margot’s elder cousin Chlodio and several of his allies managed to have her ousted, playing on both her waned health and the falsities they had sent to the king and other prominent nobility painting the Tanoness as an unstable tyrant. After taking the throne Chlodio had his cousin Margot exiled to the wilderness to fend for herself. It is here that man’s knowledge of the woman before comes to an end.

The Faegafn - or ‘wood elves’ to man - of the south tell tales of a black clad human in years past woman who came to them and met with their elders, sharing tea and walking the forests. The stories speak of her being blind ‘and yet never tripping over root nor stumbling into a tree or down a hill’. When asked of her name she would always call herself as ‘the Black Tanoness’. Some elves recognized the title of nobility and when questioned about why she wondered the woods alone and did not sit in the lap of human privilege she would never answer.

The elves speak of the woman using magic, her knowledge of the arcane matching that of even the elders. The stories say for short of a decade the woman visited seasonally and then after one winter she was never seen again. The elves presumed she had perished, returned to her kind, or simply moved on from the forest.

And then many years later the Black Tanoness would return. Her skin pale as the moon and her voice bearing the icy chill of something beyond humanity, she demanded the fealty of elves and that they give her all the knowledge and relics of their clans. They sent her away, venom on their lips. The next day the clans came under attack by a horde of orcs and goblins with the Black Tanoness in their midst, the orc chieftains bending their knee to her command. The Black Tanoness has since waged war on the elves, her hordes ravaging the forests and driving the Faegafn further to the south leaving rivers of blood and accosting the elves their ancestral forests.

And now - with the discovery of the Fell Crystal - the Black Tanoness has turned her hordes north and east to the lands of man. Her armies have swollen in size and strike fear into the hearts of the people. Orcs, goblins, barbarians, ogres, undead and many other horrors call her their mistress now and kill and conquer at her command.

TENEBRAE: The Rebellion of Shadows (Ladies Only)

Scarlet Shadow had always liked Shen. He was friendly enough at face and the more time one spent with him the more friendly he seemed to be. Granted she sometimes wondered how much of this was genuine good-hearted kindness and how much was just a case of an elderly man getting his thrills chatting with a young woman and cultivating a warm interactional relationship with her.

Of course that mattered not. He had always been civil and appropriate and - aside from the occasional little wink or sly word - had never given her intense vibes of being a creep type.

Shen had seen Scarlet Shadow outside of costume several times though in truth she preferred to be “fully clothed” so to speak and ready for any kind of potential situation even when among reliable and trustworthy company. She did not travel via her bike but rather made her way to Shen’s shop by darting between alleys, crossing rooftops, and even “surfing” atop a garbage truck when passing through a district with small enough buildings to avoid her being seen.

Of course even in her otherwise societally conspicuous getup she was hardly a total sore thumb. Scarlet Shadow wore over her costume a pair of sweat pants and a hoodie. Her boots while not matching the lazy wear were hardly super noticeable and the hood over her head concealed her cowl and mask. Under her hoodie she carried a concealed pair of tanto and also had several flash bangs on her person as well. On her back she carried a large empty backpack, as she always did when visiting Shen. If she were to make a purchase she would conceal it there.

She slowly approached the door, looking both ways and then closely in the glass reflection for any sign of anyone following her. When she was sure she was in the clear, she pulled the door open, barely noticing the bell clinking above her. She reached back behind her and turned the lock on the shop door. Abrasive as it was she didn’t plan on being here long and didn’t want anyone waltzing in to interrupt their exchange or eyeballing Scarlet Shadow in her curious getup.

“Shen?” she called striding forward, marveling the store full of valuables she once again found herself tempted to fondle. There was easily a hefty fortunes’ worth of goods here in Shen’s store and the master thief reminded herself for perhaps the hundredth time that Shen’s business was off-limits. In exchange for acting as a fence and appropriator of goods for Scarlet Shadow she would not knock off his store. It was a solid understanding and a deal that had benefitted both so far. Each was a valuable business partner to the other and neither wanted to ruin what they had going.

Hello. I would love to join this roleplay. My name is Kira. May I ask as to is vampires are allowed to be in this? I have an immortal character that is just itching to be used in this roleplay if it is. If not then I can switch a few things around in my character sheet. I am not familiar with this type of roleplay but I am slowly getting used to it as I read through it. It looks so very very very interesting to me and I would love to get my creative juices flowing. By the way, is there a posting limit or is free for all? I can do paragraphs .. I am just making sure. And is there a posting order?

Hello Kira, so to answer your questions;

• While The Elder Scrolls universe does indeed have vampires I will admit I prefer to keep them out of this particular RP. Mainly because - due to the amount weight vampires have lore and timeline wise regarding this RP - such a character is apt to distract from the main plot.

• There is a posting limit in regards to no speed posting. Let several other people - if not everyone - post after you make a post. This avoids people with limited schedules or full plates having to play catch-up due to zealous posting.

• I will also say that - while you are welcome to join! - this is not an original universe/world of mine. The Elder Scrolls is - putting it lightly - a renowned fantasy franchise with various titles to its name. You will have to familiarize yourself with, well, quite a bit to get the full experience and retain consistency. From the various races and classes to the backstory and world as a whole. As I said, your very welcome, to join. But there will be quite a bit of necessary wiki reading if you do.

• Short Biography:
Born 4E 175 in Whiterun. Holgarth’s mother passed away during childbirth while his father was out fighting in the great war. This left Holgarth placed in the care of his uncle, whom he was officially adopted by when they received news that his father had fallen during the Battle of the Red Ring. Despite the loss of his parents, and a civil war taking shape in their land, the rest of Holgarth’s childhood was surprisingly tame.

His uncle, Torbhff, was a renowned tactician during his time in Legion. Though he had been forced to retire after sustaining a severe injury, he now spent his days working for Commander Caius training new recruits for the town guard. But skills aside, Torbhff was also known for his more progressive way of thinking. In his time he fought side by side with many non-Nords who showed the same courage and spirit as his kin. This led him to be a strong believer in treating everyone with honor. To protect and look after those in need no matter where they hailed from; a philosophy that grew increasingly unpopular each day.

It was no surprise that Holgarth developed the same strong sense of compassion towards others, frequently going out of his way to help the members of the community. He would even buy food to give to vagabonds or Khajiit caravans who were camping outside the city; even if this gained him dirty looks from those who didn’t approve. When he wasn’t doing charity work or odd jobs around the city, Holgarth would sneak to the training grounds and pick up whatever lessons he could. He had every intention of joining the guard when he came of age, and he wanted to be more than prepared for the duties that came with it.

By 4E 201, the troubles in Skyrim had reached a pinnacle. High King Torygg lay dead at the hands of Ulfric Stormcloak, and every hold had chosen a side; save for Whiterun. But that didn’t mean the citizens of those holds were in agreement. Whiterun itself became heavily divided, as the two most prominent families began feuding over who the Jarl should align with. On top of everything, news had spread of the destruction of Helgen and the return of the dragons.

Holgarth, having been a guard for just over a decade, followed the example of his Jarl and remained neutral in the political strife. Though he had little faith in the current Emperor, Ulfric was far from qualified to take the throne he had tried to steal. Worst of all, neither side showed interest in making an effort to stop the dragons, a threat Whiterun had been dealing with first hand. He chose instead to focus on his duties. Be it bandits or beasts, he would be ready for anything that brought danger to his hold. At least, that is what he had hoped.

Once rumors started to spread that Alduin had been slain by the dragonborn, Ulfric sent Jarl Balgruuf an ultimatum: Swear allegiance to the Stormcloaks, or feel the wrath of the bear. Neutrality was no longer an option. His back against the wall, Balgruuf finally decided to support the Empire. It was only a few days before Whiterun found the Stormcloaks on their doorstep with an army that far out matched the guards and legionnaires inside the city.

The bloodshed lasted for hours. Holgarth fought with all the might and fury he could muster. Even as his hammer grew heavy, and dozens of his friends were cut down around him, he refused to relent. In the end, it was not magic or steel that stopped the nord, but the sound of a horn and white flags being hung from Dragonsreach. Balgruuf had surrendered. Whiterun now belonged to the Stormcloaks.

Holgarth, his uncle, and the other remaining guards were stripped of their uniforms and exiled from the hold. Torbhff suggested they leave Skyrim, and head to Bruma in Cyrodiil, but Holgarth was not ready to give up on Skyrim. Unable to convince the other, they went their separate ways.

For the last few years Holgarth has wandered the land, keeping his head down until the day comes when he can once again wield his hammer to serve his kin and country.

•Personality and General Disposition: Though he no longer dons the armor, Holgarth is still a guard at heart. He stands tall with confidence, moves with purpose, and speaks with authority in his voice. His words are often straightforward and blunt to get any point across, not bothering to honey them at all. Afterall, unless a Thuum is involved, words are meaningless in the face of action.

This demeanor can make Holgarth come off as a gruff brute, the sort of person to stay clear of unless absolutely necessary. But below his rough exterior is still a gentle giant who is eager to welcome anyone into his home. Well, when he had a home. Nevertheless, those who do approach Holgarth will find he is quick to offer a bottle of mead, a warm meal, and a spot near his campfire. To him, if you carry yourself with honor and call this land your home, then you belong in Skyrim just as much as any Nord. But do not mistake Holgarth’s trusting nature as naivety. He has an eye for thieves and thugs, and he will not hesitate to bring the hammer down on anyone that tries to wrong him.

• Skills and Ability:
Holgarth’s time in the guard has made him an excellent warrior. Highly trained in two handed and one handed weapons, as well archery, Holgarth can make use of just about any weapon. But even the best still get hit, which is why he specializes in heavy armor. Allowing him to take a beating while he dishes one out.
He is also decent with equipment maintenance. Though he can’t forge anything new, he has learned how to improve both weapons and armor of all types.
And while he is no Gourmet, you’d be hard pressed to find a better cook on the road!
