I'll be going on a two week vacation starting tomorrow and don't know how often I'll have Internet access. Thank you for your patience. I'll try to be more regular when I get back.
I don't think I'll be able to post today. I've been trying to setup the other RP. But after I've finished setting up, I'll return to my usual posting frequency. Thank you for our patience.
Solomon glared at Blythe in annoyance and was about to retort, but Israfil spoke, perhaps a little too loudly, "But I was just shooting buildings!", interrupting whatever Solomon was about to say. Israfil paused for a moment as he considered how stupid that was, of course there were people in those buildings. "I-I didn't kill..." he suddenly imagined people crushed by rubble as the buildings collapsed, imagined someone standing on a floor that he hit directly, getting seared by his blasts. He stood up suddenly with a frantic look in his eyes, "I-I'm sorry, I-I n-need to leave now." Israfil left, visibly shaken.
I can excuse Jack like that, but there's the rarely-used-yet-still important starfish-like summons too(rarely used for good reason). They're not huge or anything or even sentient, but it'd be nice to include them to tie into some stuff with one villain for that character.
S-starfish? Wh-what starfish?
Is this still accepting?
Nnnnggggg....OK, @Scarifar and @baskets are accepted. But I won't be accepting any more than this.
I'm in!
and I feel a little late to the terms party, but I agree to them... for now.
Wait, what do you mean, 'for now?'
I'll get an OOC up sometime within the next two days, though probably some time tomorrow.
Unfortunately, it seems that I'll have to tweak one of the latter's summons a bit, since sapient extradimensional living jack-o-lantern that shoots fireballs seems unlikely to be acceptable.
I was going for more of a Cthulhu-mythos take on weird stuff like that where it's more underlying our own reality, but I kind of figured. ^^;
Actually, I am allowing a 'spirit world' in the sense of an 'unseen layer' coinciding with the physical world that some people are sensitive to, especially magic users or psychics. People with such sensitivities may notice the three great abomination-like presences observing the planet. And your sapient Jack-o-Lantern idea is fine as long as it's explained as starting out as a simple magical construct that was capable of following simple commands, that over time started to develop free will, or something like that. As long as it's not something that already existed, and came over from another dimension saying, "There are plenty of us on the other side, and we're all quite mad over there," or anything like that. I hope my restrictions and allowances are making sense and are creating a sort of cohesive framework that you all can work off of. Non-human sentients can exist as aberrants or rarities; usually constructs, artificial intelligences, or unusually long-lived natural or magical creatures; things that exist so few and far between and so disparate from one another that they cannot come together and form their own society. And nothing that could be interpreted as definitive proof of dieties. magical items from myth can exist, since you can't prove they were actually made by gods.
@Dead Cruiser, after I get the OOC up, I'll explain to you how aliens work in this universe so you can have some guidelines on how t odesign your magical alien character.
I am closing applications for now since we have enough people.
Never been a fan of grim 'n' gritty 90's/New 52 style stuff, after all, but that's what most of the superhero RPs that pop up here tend to be unfortunately so it always makes me reserve judgement on superhero stuff. ^^; But um yeah. ^^;
Hmm, I'd have to say that I would rather people not make too many brooding, dark, painful, mysterious backstory, anti-hero characters, it gets old and tends to inhibit cooperation (a few are ok, but it doesn't mean their pain is more important than anyone else's). There will probably be some villains who are moustache-twirlingly evil. The child superhero/sidekick experience is not guaranteed to be traumatic. I guess for the most part I want happy campers, but some grim, grit and realism is ok too. I do want to try exploring some deep philosophical themes, that are not necessarily dark though.
...Huh, thought the "I agree to these terms" thing was for when we post characters, since that seems to be how most disclaimers like that I've seen work.
Stop confusing me! D:
Sorry, I do want terms agreements upfront so that can have power over you so that I can know our RP styles are compatible-ish maybe. I do want some commitment before people agree to the terms so I don't start the RP and have half the group drop out before we're 5 posts in.
I actually have two characters I'd like to use as long as the tone and stuff is interesting to me.
One would definitely be pretty rookie as far as a superhero goes, but the other, um, would be a veteran witch(though not exactly a straightforward superhero even if she would be one) who has some summoning spells, um, would the latter be okay too?
As long as the summons are not intelligent enough to question their own existence, then magical creatures are fine. Golems and magical constructs/animated inanimate objects work too.
I guess I do have a few exceptions for sentient beings besides humans, which are aberrants, for example: a magical creature that's lived long enough to gain sentience, a magical construct that's been around long enough to gain sentience, a robot AI that somehow developed sentience. These would be ok, since they would be rare, uncommon, generally incapable of producing more of their own kind, and are not entire races of nonhuman sentients.
Also, an equivalent to the Marvel concept of 'mutants' will be a thing.
I am interested in this. Will there be a plot?
It will be pretty free-form/sandboxy but there are certain things I want to happen storywise, but will not force.
Alright, please take a look at the interest check I have up and let me know if you're interested. If you're still unsure, I will have more available details once I get the OOC up.
I am looking to recruit a few people (about 5-7) for a superhero RP I'd like to start soon. I already have a few people I know who will be joining this, which will make a total of 8-10 players, including myself. I will start the RP when I have a total of 8 players (an additional 5), and I will close applications after reaching 10 total players (an additional 7).
Now for the sake of quality to you, my players, I will ask that if you wish to show interest and be subsequently recruited, to agree to the following terms:
1. Follow the site rules. 2. Post semi-regularly, somewhere between once a day to three times a week, or something like that. You should be someone who is not ok with making nine other people wait for you to post. For this reason, even though this is in casual, I will allow the occassional one-liner, if only to keep things going if you simply cannot think of enough content to write. It's fine, there isn't always something amazing to do, or clever to say. 3. Because this is a superhero RP, things can get out of hand and overpowered very quickly. For that reason, I need players to regulate their own characters. This is a character exploration, not a competition; I don't want this devolving into an arms race. 'Instant' teleportation isn't 'instant', invulnerability is 'limited invulnerability', etc. It's OK to let your characters get hurt, it builds character. 4. Of course, no godmodding, no doing anything that will either give you control over another player's character, or find out things about their character they don't want your character to know. This will be a fine line that will be difficult to skirt, for example, I would avoid powerful psychic types, but if you absolutely must have a powerful psychic character, then please discuss what your character plans to do with the impacted player and obtain permission from them before proceeding. We should all be friendly and understanding to each other, and help each other create this collective story. 5. To be added to the roster, type "I agree to these terms" in your reply post. By agreeing to these terms, you give me the right to call you out if you violate these terms.
That's it for RP rules really, unless someone can think of any for me to add, the help would be greatly appreciated.
Now for a bit of character caveats. Because of the world I plan to build (yes, there is a method to the madness), there are certain limits to what a character can be. For one, space aliens of any sort will be in short supply for a very important story-based reason. So if you create a character who is an alien or has alien powers, it will receive additional scrutiny from me, and if I allow it, I may only allow it after offering some edit suggestions.
There are even more restrictions for anything even remotely resembling a divine magical/religious being. Magic exists in the world, but being magic, definitive proof of divine beings and/or creatures remains ever elusive. That means no actual gods from any pantheon, no intelligent creatures (no intelligent dragons, but beast dragons who only eat and sleep and have the intelligence of a 'clever girl' velociraptor are fine to exist), no angels, no demons, no fairy/fae folk of any sort, no elves, dwarves, etc. No species/races beside human. Now someone can have angelic powers or demonic powers and claim to have either learned it from an angel/demon or claim that one of their parents was an angel/demon, but the actual angel/demon in question will never appear, allowing plausible deniability (which some scholars argue is the basis for faith). Now you can be a vampire or werewolf, but only if you don't play those creatures up as their own separate races; they either were normal people afflicted with some magical disease/curse, or it was the result of a normal human dabbling into too much dark magic, etc. Long story short, the only sentient/intelligent lifeform native to Earth are humans. Period.
I also do want most of you to be rookies rather than veterans, though I will allow a few veterans if people really want to make them.
I'm not asking you to start making characters here, I just wanted to make it plain in case any of these character restrictions are deal-breakers for you, then you should probably look elsewhere.
One last thing, I am opening this world up to player contributions, specifically, I would like every player to have a main superhero character. In addition, any player may add 'flavor characters', NPC's, side characters, etc. to flesh out their history. Let me know if you want to control those characters, or if you want me, the GM, to control those characters. This means that you can totally make the supervillain rival to your superhero character, and you can play them, or let me play them. You can also 'swap' villains with another player if you think that would be fun. I allow this because rogues galleries are often themed with the heroes they belong to. Of course, I don't want every player to make like 5 different characters. My tiny GM head would explode. Once the OOC is up, you can discuss with your fellow players if you will be starting solo careers, or if you would like to begin the RP already in teams, etc.
Well, that's it, I hope my 'terms' don't make me come off as a d-bag, I just want some good, clean, cooperative, quality fun occurring on a decently regular basis. See you on the other side.
"Well, I'm sure the proper authorities could always be contacted to deal with a few bad apples," Solomon said dismissively, giving no indication that he recognized those traits within himself.
"Ah...I-I'm sorry..." Israfil said in a fluster, "it's just...the four of you are considered heroes, at least, that's what I heard over the Cepheus PDF comm lines."
