She blinked once, and the world spun.

Flicking away a loose strand of hair, Gold stared at the scene playing out before her. The brute with the helmet and the fop in the jacket were more impressive than she had initially assumed. At first glance she'd thought of the giant as a mere beast and wondered why such a monster was allowed to roam so freely inside the school; the dark-skinned wannabe casanova, on the other hand, had her questioning the veracity of the school's claims of accepting only the best.

Of course, those impressions quickly changed after she ran her magic through them. Her eyes shifted in color, going from a clear blue to a brilliant gold, and it was as though the world shifted with them, with those around her none the wiser. Her vision swam through a series of images, feelings, and memories of different times, of years of practice, of every instance of spells cast, as she stared at the two before her, drinking in the information, becoming increasingly intoxicated with the sudden rush of information until she had to force herself to stop.

The things she'd seen about the two had immediately been enough to earn her respect. To say that there was more to them that met the eye was an understatement, and it had Gold wondering just how many were capable of seeing them as she had.

Another surprise was that a single girl stepped forward in attempt to have them stop, and Gold, having spared her another glance was left surprised all over again. Her magic, when applied in the proper situations, would be an incredibly useful tool, especially considering how similar her own magic was to hers. The girl's ability had the potential to irreversibly change the social structure of entire countries, if it was further developed.

As she processed what she'd seen, the seeds of plan began to form in her head . . .

Karen was so, so thankful that her roommate was patient enough to deal with her little meltdown, enough to even breath a small sigh of relief. Standing awkardly in front of his bed, she shuffled her feet as she mulled about for answers to his questions. At his words, she tried her best to compose herself and slow down her speech; she was capable of doing that much at least.

"Um, we have math, but it's optional. Ah, actually, all the lectures here are optional. You don't actually have to go to classes here." 

The way the school was run was a bit of a shock to her given that before coming here she went to a regular, non-magical school. Magic training from her master usually took place at his home for the evening, and didn't take much longer than two hours.

"The, um, school, it gives a lot freedom for its students you see. There's like an emphasis on the students initiative to learn. For the most part, it isn't a problem, since my master told me mages are, uh, naturally studious." 

At least that was what she'd been told, and she wasn't one to disagree with her master, so even if she herself didn't feel all that much like a model student, she took his word for it. In fact, she studied just enough so as not to be a total disappointment to her family and master. When she thought about it, that was probably what drove a majority of the students here to learn. As mages, there was probably a lot of expectations riding on their shoulders. 

"Of course, that means that you could be stuck here for years having done nothing. I know, uh, a few students like that. We refer them as decadents, because, er, you know, they've been here for like a decade, and because they're decadent and stuff." 

Her voice trailed off into a mumble by the end as she struggled to explain the concept in a way that didn't make her come off as sounding condenscending. The last thing she wanted was for her new and really friendly roommate to think she had an ego problem. Eventually she just fell quiet, and a thick wave of painfully awkward silence fell over the room, leaving her stuttering to say anything to get the conversation alive.

"A-anyway, I'm a second year here. If you'd like, I could show you around?" 

The words were out of her mouth before she could stop them, and her eyes widened like a deer against headlights. 

"U-unless you don't want to?" she managed to follow up, though her words were clipped and stiff. In her head, she was slightly hoping that Kai said yes.

Melody was probably one of the single most useful mages when it came to diffusing an immediate conflict. Technicalities aside, her power was potent, and it would take some training to resist her ability, and even then it meant having the mental capacity to want to fight against her power - consider if the one target was only angry in the spur of the moment, with his aggression only skin deep; Melody wouldn't even have to touch him to end the fight. Even those with much deeper issues would still have difficulties - after all, without putting any deeper thought to it than the average man, who would want to hold on to that which pains them?

In any case, those are simply reasons that reinforce that, in the normal course of things, if there was a fight Melody wanted to stop, then the fight would stop. An equal testament to her own ability, and the sometimes self-destructive nature of man to seek happiness.

It was a shame then, that the two students in front of her were of the few ones that were naturally immune to her magic.

Francisco turned to Melody, no indication at all that he'd even felt Melody use her magic, even as those around him slowly lost their fright. The young man flashed her a picture perfect smile, complete with full dimples and bright pearly whites.

"My dear young lady, I suggest, for your own safety, that you not step any closer," he said in a charming voice that nonetheless carried a undercurrent of danger, though not one meant for her. "Sir Morholt here isn't much of a gentleman, and reasoning with him isn't quite possible."

The Death Knight, for his part, definitely felt Melody's magic, and his reaction to it was the same as towards every other time he'd felt a threat.

With a low growl, the gray-skinned giant dashed towards Melody, closing the gap between them in a single stride, and encasing the girl's head inside a single hand. His hand squeezed hard, fully intent on crushing her skull.

"Grah-!" 

In another second, that same hand released her and was now pinned to the ground by an outstretched leg. 

"Tsk tsk Morholt. Absolutely no manners at all."

With a roar, Morholt flipped Francisco off his arm. The young man flipped through the air, landing on a table of an unfortunate student who had just finished her meal. The plates and inedible leftovers scattered and spilled all over her unceremoniously, and Francisco could only shoot her an apologetic smile before he turned his attention back to his opponent, who was now pacing towards him with a menacing gait, Melody apparently forgotten.@Natsu@Jay Kalton
