Current When it is time to write, I want to worldbuild. When it is time to worldbuild, I want to collab. When it is time to collab, I want to write. This is the cycle. These are the rules.

Sad to say I'm currently experiencing Writer's Block. Luckily I learned Writer's Kung Fu and I can chop the block in half with my hands like Bruce Lee

Why is the sun like bread? It rises in the yeast, and sets in the waist. Haha! Isn't that so cute? Join my RP or more puns will come.

What's the difference between a Hollywood actor and a piece of driftwood? One is Justin Timberlake. The other is timber, just in a lake. Hahathisiswhati'mdoinginsteadofwriting

Current RP I want you to join: roleplayerguild.com/topics/191461-car…

Hey y'all. I've been at this for about 12 years, and I've played a lot of kinds of RP. I like fantasy and sci-fi the most, just because they give me the most to worldbuild with, but I'm cool with almost anything. I just like writing.

@Jeyma I think it sounds interesting. I think if you roll with this character it would be a really interesting development in character if they we qouted texts trying to be helpful, but have absolutely nothing to do with the situation. Then as the story develops and our characters become more aware, your robot starts to find pieces that are helpful and have meaning.

That's just my thought though.

I might do something like that, yeah.

The question is, though; in the span of 800 years, how long until he starts to not believe anymore?

That IS the question, isn't it?

@6slyboy6

Submitted for your approval.

I hope this made sense

If anyone didn't understand it, ask me.

even if I'm not religious myself but I do have a few friends who are, these religions don't seem to be too keen on using recordings instead of a human voice to recite verses of their bible during prayers. What other function could a robot who quotes their bible serve?

That IS the question, isn-

Okay, I guess I actually have to answer this one.

It memorized the Bible mainly because the Pastor (his owner) wanted to decide if a Robot could have a soul. It was a test, in a way- to see if Bible verses had any impact.
This is unorthodox, so I'd like to gauge the waters:

My robot was previously used in a Christian church: he was not anything more than a basic servant/worker bot, but he was just barely smart enough to pick up on and understand the religious ceremonies going on around him. He gradually adapted Protestant teachings into his programming, with some encouragement from the Preacher.

I think it'll be interesting to have a (otherwise simple, very primitive) robot who suddenly throws spiritual comparisons into things, and still tries to understand his world through those eyes.

Buuut I know that's non-typical for robots, so I wanted to get other opinions first. What does everyone think?
I'm a real sucker for a nice big mix, including melee and closer range weapons still definitely in play (occasionally augmented with more advanced tech). Vibro-blades and lightsabers spring to mind as an example.

Vibro-blades always make me shutter. I know lightsabers are usually considered to be more dangerous, and I have no idea if a vibro-blade would even hurt that badly, but I can't help but think an ultrasonic vibration of metal cutting into you would be... ouch. Keep those vibrators from hell away from me.

(Definitely would be cool to have them in the RP, tho)

@Jeyma All very good.

In language, I was going to go for the cliched 'common' as the lingua franca of the galaxy - like Greek was and Latin became. Means we can all communicate, but also have our own languages. Might call it something else though.

That could be fun. Might allow us the opportunity to give some characters ridiculous accents when speaking Common. That being said, calling it Common is boring. No offense

So for what the language itself is named, I have a few suggestions:

-Hoi Polloi (a word meaning "common people" or "the masses")

-The Tongue

-Trade Tongue or Trade Language (because it would be often used when foreign nations are trading and conducting diplomacy)

-Shelesh (the name of a language in Mass Effect: Andromeda, which was created from many other languages)

-Human or Humani or Humana (if it's spoken mainly by humans, anyway)

-Syntax (or any word that means something along the lines of "Speaking correctly")

---

My personal favorite idea is calling it the Trade Tongue, or Humana.
@Jeyma Good thing you found us.

I'm working on the CS already, but I'll need time to think. I never rush characters, even on such simple character sheets. If you make a bad character you're stuck with it
I definitely want to join this. I've been waiting for an RP like this for a long while.
What sort of tech level do you think would be appropriate? There will be other nations and planets with higher or lower levels, but for us as a starting group?

In a sci-fi RP, I tend to see a lot of diversity. Some people will surely want to go for a pistol-toting, rifle-slinging merc who uses more modern/"realistic" weapons (guns or mass-drivers), while others will want to fire around plasma beams or employ personal shields or build A.I. from scratch (the more traditional sci-fi). The best "tech level" would be one that allows both.

For balance: perhaps plasma/energy is more damaging in-and-of itself, but mass-drivers (guns) are significantly more effective vs. shields? Just an idea.

EDIT: Ship speed and specifics doesn't really matter. Our ship(s) moves whatever speed we need it to move for the progression of the story. But there should be enough travel time between missions that our characters can speak and interact. Again, I'm assuming we get a ship.

EDIT 2: Universal translators may be useful as a convenience. We need both crewmates and clients from vastly different species to understand eachother flawlessly and immediately.
Unless, of course, someone wants to create a character that's a translation expert.

Because we're badass mercenaries, our military tech should be slightly "above average" compared to the rest of the galaxy.

Oh, forgot to mention, we will be needing specific roles such as quartermaster, paymaster, surgeon, scout etc. So if you do have ideas coinciding with these archtypes, feel free to keep them in mind or develop them.

Is engineer possible?

I want engineer.

My actual question is thus; should we begin as an established and roughly uniform company/guild/lokhos/group (although 'national' sidearms would be fine to keep), or would you prefer a more mish-mash group of hardened (or not hardened) killers-for-hire? The latter probably going to be put together before leaving Taenarum.
Da GM

Mish-mash mercenaries!
Unlike my rambling opinion on technology up there, I don't really have a justification for this one. I just like the idea of a mish-mash smash.
I'm really interested in this RP. I've been having some trouble keeping interest with RPs lately, since the last big one I was in died when I was totally invested, but I think I'm ready to get "back in the game."

This sounds like it'll be really fun.

EDIT:

I assume we'll have a spaceship. And if so, I call dibs on the techie role (engineer / glorified I.T. guy). Someone has to keep the ship running and grumble angrily about machines all day.

I have two character ideas: one is just a human who happens to be a technical savant, and the other is a (in my opinion) unique take on A.I. Which one I go with just depends on the other characters being introduced and whether my ideas are accepted.

Doing this again, unless I've gotten drowned out in the past 3 days. I've been busy with school and tests.

Tomorrow, if it isn't too late, I'll get caught up and everything.
