And she seems to have tons of good traits and seemingly no negative ones. If your character has so many skills / positive traits, you need to add negative ones to even it out.

My bad, she wasn't meant to seem Mary Sue. I actually really hate perfect characrers, and I never meant for Aideen to look like that.

She has several big flaws. I honestly meant for them to be obvious, but I understand if I need to explain.

For one, she's stubborn and obsessive. I mentioned that her father said she was "stubborn as a tree," and she actually managed to take it as a compliment. This is also shown through her wand's "rigid" flexibility. That's a trait that's going to bite her in the ass, like, all the time.

She's also vengeful. I mentioned that she is "moody as fire" and that she has a "streak of hate."

There's even a huge weakness with her wand: a Hawthorn wand, as said in the Pottermore quote, "can, when badly handled, backfire." PLUS Dragoncore wands are prone to "accident." Her wand is both likely to backfire and likely to fail. It's a deathtrap.

With such a shitty wand, her anger and her stubborness are a poor combination. I can imagine her messing up spells all the time, arguing with authority figures, taking fights too far, and holding grudges across years.

If you really think I need to put more emphasis on those, of course I will, but I stand by what I said: I do believe her flaws are already pretty self-apparent.

As for having too many skills, the only skill I gave her was that she knows a lot about wandcrafting. And... that's it.

I said she's interested in healing people and caring for magical beasts, but nowhere did I say that means she's GOOD at it.
Those aren't skills, just interest. She won't necessarily have any talent for them.

She only has a skill for memorizing shit about wands.

I don't remember if it's in the books, but in the movies we clearly see that Hermione's parents are talking to the Weasley's in Diagon Alley. It's the scene where Potter goes to buy Lockhart's books.

:: History ::

In what certain types would call a "scandal," Aideen was born of a muggle mother with a pure-blood father- Tabitha Dunn and Arthur White.

In a single movement, the entire White family disowned Arthur. Except one, that is. Uncle Ryan defied his pure-blood family and embraced his newfound niece, visiting with magical gifts from America- strange and foreign land, in the mind of little Aideen. Her uncle and her dad taught her the secrets of the arcane, while her mom taught her the secrets of working a computer. They all became the glue that connected the world of magic and the world of the mundane.

A year ago, Aideen felt the glue break. All at once, the perfect coexistence fell in on itself. The girl doesn't really understand why, but when Aideen started showing supernatural potential, her mom suddenly wanted nothing to do with magic- or Arthur. Divorce followed. Junebaby's world tore in two. Uncle Ryan stopped visiting.

Tabitha never tried to gain custody of her daughter, but Aideen visits her mother's electronic-filled, muggle home every other weekend. There are times in her life lit up by magic, and others by a television screen.

Hawthorn:
The wandmaker Gregorovitch wrote that hawthorn ‘makes a strange, contradictory wand, as full of paradoxes as the tree that gave it birth, whose leaves and blossoms heal, and yet whose cut branches smell of death.’ While I disagree with many of Gregorovitch’s conclusions, we concur about hawthorn wands, which are complex and intriguing in their natures, just like the owners who best suit them. Hawthorn wands may be particularly suited to healing magic, but they are also adept at curses, and I have generally observed that the hawthorn wand seems most at home with a conflicted nature, or with a witch or wizard passing through a period of turmoil. Hawthorn is not easy to master, however, and I would only ever consider placing a hawthorn wand in the hands of a witch or wizard of proven talent, or the consequences might be dangerous. Hawthorn wands have a notable peculiarity: their spells can, when badly handled, backfire.

Dragon:
As a rule, dragon heartstrings produce wands with the most power, and which are capable of the most flamboyant spells. Dragon wands tend to learn more quickly than other types. While they can change allegiance if won from their original master, they always bond strongly with the current owner.

The dragon wand tends to be easiest to turn to the Dark Arts, though it will not incline that way of its own accord. It is also the most prone of the three cores to accidents, being somewhat temperamental.

Aideen's dad once said she's "stubborn as a tree and moody as a fire." She took it as a compliment.

Arthur has done all he can to teach his daughter a sense of morality and fairness. It has grown deeply into her. Yet her Uncle always told her she must be strong, or the world will trample her. This also grew deeply into her. Aideen thinks she values kindness more than anything, but in a sort of contradiction, she also has a streak of hate and vengeance if she feels wronged.

But those traits shouldn't scare away a perspective friend. In conversation, Aideen is still as sweet as honey.

Aideen, her father, and her Uncle Ryan all wield Hawthorn wands. Her family pride has grown alongside her love of trees, so she's taken to carrying a pocketful of Hawthorn Seeds.

:: Likes ::
She has a bit of an obsession for wands and wandmaking, which was likely what lead to her similar like of trees. Aideen takes childish pride in naming every tree wandwood can be harvested from, and describing exactly what sort of wand it forms. She has also been deeply entranced with the creatures of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," courtesy of her Uncle.

She inherited, also from her Uncle, a desire to cast the most "flashy" spells she can- from her father, a desire to heal.

She hates bullies, thieves and liars. She has never been the victim of any herself, but she doesn't need to be to know how she feels about them.

Aideen loved her Uncle, yet she fears him almost as much. Something about that man sets off on alarm in her head. And worse, she can't shake the feeling that she is loosing her mother by emersing herself further and further into her father's magical life.

Less seriously, she has a childhood phobia of large reptiles.

She's both proud and nervous about being the first member of her family to attend Hogwarts in generations- all the other Whites go to Ilvermorny.

I just now realized that both our characters have prosthetic left-hands. I swear, I didn't even remember that Wolfe had a prosthetic until now.

So, to recap, Rolands left Joy's medical files on the table for Wolfe, but Joy doesn't want everyone to know about her disability, so she's being defensive about it. Your move, Wolfe

Analogy

The captain is the hand, a filing cabinet does not direct a vacuum cleaner, but is responsible for holding documents of how the vac should work. The hand directs the vac and pages through the advice the filing cabinet holds, but only the hand can decide how the vac is used and if it isn't working properly.

Therefore, Luci respects Roland's position, but doesn't have to do a damn thing he says without express approval from the captain detailing how their purpose has changed. At this point, Roland's words for directing Luci would be redundant.
...unless he has a personal request for them to consider.

Not trying to start any trouble, I just like thinking of things like this through analogies. It makes implied conflict a bit more fun than simply dukeing it out.

No, that's fine. That's basically what Rolands does on the ship. The reason he's such a prick about it is because he wants to be a Captain, but he'll never get promoted because he can't actually lead anyone, even though he has the organizational and intellectual skills.
