Slowly -- but surely -- coming back from a long hiatus.

Better known by the name of Tsu. An "advanced" roleplayer with at least five years of experience on/off. In real life, he is a college student studying in Asia, majoring in design-related fields. Outside of this site, he's also a hopeless poet and an indie writer currently working on his first book (as and when he has the time and inspirations to write something). He is also active in the Harry Potter fandom through participating in fanfic competitions/challenges and building connections with gift fics.

INTP; a Pottermore-certified Slytherin but identifies himself as a Slytherclaw who is both witty and ambitious. Considers himself a Denpa Otaku -- a fan of animanga, visual novels and JRPGs, and he's as opinionated about what he likes and dislikes as every other fan out there.

Roleplay invitation is strictly reserved for close friends and peers only, for now. I'm too busy to join big, open groups at the moment.

Still waiting for the day Hikari can bitchslap my Orinami... and another chance for Nagisa to greet a new friend with a sniper gun under their chin.

First attempt at a romance-ish RP. Wish me luck -- and make be sober over how I can only have fictional girlfriends.
(While I try my best not to turn Meyer's perfect vamps into assholes because I'm really itching to do that for the lolz.)

Usually I prefer OCs, only the Next Gen is an exception where I may take up James, Albus or Rose if someone can really convince me to do them, yeah.

Though considering the sheer number of mythical lores that JKR has thrown into the books and doing a RP of this fandom as 1x1, I would probably like to go for something with a dark, twisting plot and deep character development, not like those large group RPs where you have students hopping on the Hogwarts Express merrily and socializing around on the way to school...

It will take me some time to go through all your links because Starbucks wifi is just that crappy but you seem like a pretty cool person. (That avatar - Tadokoro Megumi for the win heh.)

Do you already have some idea in mind for the genres/settings you've expressed interest in?

I don't think that is unforgiving at all, to be honest. I don't think anyone really enjoys writing with someone they cannot really understand. The person can be nice, but the immersion is lost. I'm currently helping another Dutch girl improve her writing in English through RP, but it's just that, improving English. It's really hard to actually get invested in the plot because the only reason I understand it, is because she clearly uses Dutch sentence structures.

Hmm, well, I think we should be able to come up with some nice new magic then. I mean, that is a lot of mythology to draw inspiration from. Especially when it come to making things harder for the characters. Kekekeke.

Thank God :') I might have times where I can be crazy slow, but I'm pretty sure that I should have time every few evenings at worst to reply. And if I can't reply for a time longer than that, I'll let you know.

I agree. They would know quite a lot about eachother, so I think a lot of the things in the character sheets will be known to the other character already, like favorite things, some secrets perhaps, past relationships, though not in detail probably, the things they're good or bad at..
I think that them having lost contact after school due to something like a busy schedule maybe is a good idea. Gives them some stuff to talk about as well, I'd say.
As for the style; I'd say go right ahead ^^ I'm probably sticking to what I usually do, but it doesn't bother me or anything.

As for the houses, different ones sounds good to me, but I don't really mind what combination that'd be. I always felt like Slytherins were really sold short, because I don't really believe that an entire house is made up out of dirtbags who refuse to make friends with anyone outside their house, so I can see a Gryffindor/Slytherin duo work as well, but any other combo is fine too.

Thanks for the link - got this thread added to my subscription list. :)

Can't agree with you more on the immersion part. It's hard to get back into the feeling when the momentum keeps getting broken up by awkward language mistakes. Maybe the first few posts I can try to be patient, but it can't go on like this forever, you know? ^^;

No probs - though pardon me if I have to resort using Google Translate for any ancient-sounding spells in Greek/Latin or even Hebrew, etc. :P

Same to you. Will give you heads up if I need more time to be away, battling with the horrors of reality...
I'm not fond of speed-posting, and I do like to spend time thinking through what I want to write in response, be it IC or OOC. I can be long-winded and I love random chats beyond RP - roleplaying is supposed to be fun, not another business talk. It helps to create a good mood between me and my partner, and also I can be aware of what my partner may like or dislike in the RP. Just let me know if you don't like me sidetracking too much, because there are some rpers here who don't like OOC chats.

I believe that even if two people have been hanging out with each other for a long time and maintain a close relationship, there are still some parts of the person that s/he wouldn't want to let the other know, wouldn't show it to the other party. It's also natural for humans to put on different masks catered to different people they meet/deal with. People are complex creatures, both in a good and bad way.
To add on to the point as mentioned above, time is also one of the main factors that can change a person from how s/he is like before, apart from environment. The core personality may not change as much, but one can sense the growth in maturity, or some influence from external forces on top of the base. Sorry if I sound like I'm ranting about psychology here - and no, I didn't take up any courses in psychology, just some things I gathered from observation.
Hmm I was thinking of using diary entries as a more interesting way to reveal the backstory of my character, and also give more insight to how my characters may be feeling, diving deeper into the character's inner thought.

I'm a proud Slytherin here. :P For the part about them not willing to make friends outside of their own house, if we see this on the flip side, it's a sign of loyalty, a virtue that the Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors both value in. Personally I feel like Gryffindor and Slytherin both sides of the same coin, just that they each take a different approach to act on their beliefs. Since my character is a muggleborn and will unlikely be in Slytherin (I don't like people who force muggleborn characters into Slytherin because it really doesn't work that way), I may be going with either Gryffindor to maintain this dynamic, or take up Hufflepuff as it's the most underdeveloped house in the canon.
I tried...and I totally flipped when Marvel went on rampage with over-complicated timelines and paradoxes, because there's just too many different writers working on the same material (I absolutely cannot forgive what they did with Cyclops - by giving him a mutant harem). In the end I just gave up and went back to Japanese manga instead.

Nah it's alright - it's better for both of us to keep this consistent, and I think for this RP a real pic works better. *le me digging around using Google Image Search*
Hmm I guess I wouldn't want to reveal too much about the backstory of my characters in the CS - just the basics to give you a rough understanding will do - and prefer to let the rest develop in the IC, then I'll update the CS to include new info about their history accordingly.
Just post your CS in the Character Tab whenever you're ready. There's no need for approval or anything in 1x1 lol. For me I don't really impose CS template on my partners, but if you have one that you would like me to follow, I'm happy to do so.

I have PSP and PS Vita, still debating about DS/3DS because of its region-lock thingy (why Nintendo why can't you be like Sony >_>). I mostly play original Japanese games because I'm not used to English VAs.
More:
  • Deconstruction and Mind-Screws
Can be world, genre, tropes/lores, the psychology of the characters...anything. let's break the cliche wall and challenge normality, people!

  • Describing Character Appearance with Words
Using images (be it face claim or animanga art) is convenient, but nothing beats the good ol'-fashioned way to present your character to me. Personally I don't think any face claim or illustration can ever properly portray the characters I have in mind unless I actually draw them out myself...which I won't, because otherwise I wouldn't be on this site but on the art forums instead.

  • Dark Harem
Not the anime-ecchi kind, but something deeper and intriguing like those in ancient Chinese history.

Less:
  • Mainstreams and Stereotypical Lores
Especially high medieval fantasy, zombie apocalypse, supernatural featuring vampires/werewolves or angels/demons, and DC/Marvel-inspired superheroes. I've lost count the number of such genres I came across drifting around on this site...

  • Pairings
Or should I say, jumping the romance bandwagon in general. The worst kind would be "love at first sight" or "dramatic love-triangle soap opera" - no offense to those who are romantics, but I prefer to let our characters develop and get comfortable with each other first before we even talk about taking things further. I'm perfectly happy even if our characters' relationship stay as friends/comrades with a common goal till the end. Sure, romance can help to spice things up, but it's not a necessity.
I rarely encounter such problem since I'm more of an 1x1 than a large group roleplayer, but here's my two-cents:

RPing isn't like writing fanfictions or original novels/shorts where you're in full control of the whole story and all the characters - most importantly, writing to yourself - but you are sharing the control of the story with the other players equally, in terms of the main character role. It is frustrating when you encounter those who join a RP but showing signs of ignorance, and often this snowballs into cases where it can mess up the rhythm of the whole game due to conflicting events introduced by such players.

So, if you don't like to read posts by the rest of the players, then don't roleplay with other people, period. RP is not a solo game.

On the other side, if you wish people to read your posts, then you have to put in effort to make people read it. Let me ask: how do you feel reading a long post full of typo/spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, awkward sentence structures, and my greatest pet peeve of all, horrible paragraphing just to make your posts look beefy? It's even more irritating when you're expected to response to such a crappy post ASAP. You're making the other players doing the job you should have done before hitting the 'Post Reply' button.

Proofreading.

No one wants to be a Grammar (or Language as a whole) Nazi, but that doesn't mean you can be lazy about making your posts easier for the others to read - and whether English is your native tongue or not shouldn't be an excuse (English is not my first language, but you can't tell until I explicitly tell you this, right?). In the beginning people can be lenient, but as the game continues you can't expect others to keep giving in the whole time. Don't blame others for not bothering to read your posts because you are the one who drove them away with your horrendous writing. Don't waste people's time deciphering your gibberish when that can be spent more fruitfully to keep the RP going forward.

To conclude my rant, reading the posts of others and proofreading your posts to make it easier for the others to read go hand in hand. Just like how in a RP you need to communicate with the other players in OOC, in IC this is how you can hold on to that connection.
