Featuring Ariana Mossos & Jasper Fray

Before Jasper and Ariana could go any further than putting their hands on the door handles, the whole vehicle vibrated from the bass of another one incoming that Ariana immediately recognized as Kavi’s. Amused, the young woman watched as a very enthusiastic Chrissie belted out the lyrics to some song she didn’t recognize, accompanying them with a show fit for a drama geek like her. But the brunette realized who the curly-haired girl was heading towards, the smile that had been adorning her lips was soon wiped out of her face.

Did she just--?” Ariana trailed off, watching with wide eyes as her best friend singled out her ex-lover during her show in front of his colleagues with a line that said something about ‘can’t like with her but can’t live without her’. Wanting nothing more than for the earth to open up and swallow her right then and there, the brunette watched Chrissie finish her fantastic performance with a bang before running off into the country club, dragging Kavi along with her and leaving a confused-looking group of teachers behind.

The car was quiet for a few seconds, the air thick with surprise before Ariana finally spoke. “She’s gone crazy, Jas. Chrissie has officially lost her marbles. And she’s trying to take me down with her.”

Watching closely at what all went down, Mr. Russo looked just as confused as Jasper felt. ”Did… did she just call him out in dance?”

“I think she did!” she replied, her mouth still agape in shock for a few seconds before eventually succumbing to a fit of nervous and amused laughter. She knew that her best friend would never dare to expose her like that (the consequences of being outed would be more than catastrophic), but Ariana would be lying if she said she didn't find this particular way of subtle shade very entertaining.

“Well that was uh… that was something.” Unsure of what else to say as he continued to try and make sense of what just happened, Jasper shook his head and laughed along with Ariana. Where her laugh was more nervous, his was more one of shock. “Guess we better head inside before Russo’s head explodes, huh?”

The young woman could only nod. After taking in a deep breath, Ariana finally mustered up the courage to exit the car. She wasted no time in locking her slender arm with the one Jasper was so graciously offering her, and together they glamorously made their way to the country club. Of course, she made sure to saunter a little more and walk a little slower than usual when passing by her favorite teacher-- let him fully appreciate what he would be missing tonight.

Once inside, it was easy to tell that the party hadn’t really started yet. While more and more people were coming through the door, not many of them were heading to the dance floor. Was it that they were waiting on their ‘favorite’ song? Maybe. Scanning the crowd, Jasper spotted one of his friends from the Junior class. William (or Will, as he liked to be called) was one of the few people that Jasper could trust around the school. It also just so happened that Will had full access to his father's liquor cabinet and worked on the crew that helped set up everything for the night. Waving him Will over, Jasper smiled at his friend before introducing him to Ariana.

“Ariana, this is my friend Will. Will, this is Ariana, my date for the night.”

Will - never one to filter what was on his mind - looked Ariana up and down before whistling. “Dammmnnnn girl,” he said, rubbing his hands together in that weird way jocks did when they spotted their next prize.

Jasper rolled his eyes, while his date tittered and winked at his friend. ”Okay man. Where’s the shit I paid you for?”

Sighing, Will waved his hand for the pair to follow him. Once they reached the table with the snacks and drinks, Will reached under the table and nonchalantly pulled out a fifth of Smirnoff one-hundred proof vodka. Thankfully, most of the teachers were still doing light checks and making sure no one got in without a valid school ID.

”You don’t have to be here for this,” Jasper said quietly, turning to Ariana. ”I understand if you aren’t cool with it or whatever.”

To say that Ariana was surprised was an understatement. Out of all the people she would have expected to spike the punch, it was safe to say that Jasper would have been the last one to come to mind. It was probably why they were able to get away with it so easily. Who would’ve suspected the quiet music geek?

“Holy shit,” she commented, shifting her eyes between Jasper, Will and the vodka with an amused smile on her face. “I never would have pegged you for a troublemaker, Jasper. Spiking the vodka right under the teacher’s noses? That takes balls, my friend, and you damn sure have those in their place.”

Shrugging his shoulders, Jasper smirked. “What can I say?” Taking the bottle from Will, he twisted the top off. “Okay. Will, I’m gonna need you to stand guard. Ariana… uh…. First honors? I’ll stand kinda in front of you so no one can see.”

“I would love to!” she simpered, shooting him a wink before grabbing the vodka bottle from his hands and slowly pouring the liquor into the running fountain until the very last drop. Grinning, she handed Jasper the now empty bottle to be disposed of, grabbed a cup from the table and allowed one of the streams to fill up her cup with the crimson liquid. “You guys wanna take the first sip with me?” she asked the boys.

”Hell yeah, why not?” Jasper handed the empty bottle to Will who passed it off to one of the other guys to dispose of. Will supplied most of Jasper alcohol for him, especially at events like these. They knew where to get rid of the bottle so that it wouldn’t be found.

As Jasper and Will both grabbed a cup and followed Ariana’s lead, Jasper raised his fancy plastic glass to toast.

”To the last cheesy Valentine’s Day Dance we ever have to go to,” he smiled, before downing the nearly the whole cup. His face souring, Jasper shook his head in an attempt to get rid of the taste from his mouth. ”That shit leaves a really bad after taste.”

“I’ll say… Ariana who had imitated Jasper and Will by also downing the entirety of her punch, was making a face as well. “You should’ve told me you needed something to spike the punch with. I would’ve gotten you something a little more... luxe. No offense,” she quickly added, looking over at Will.

“None taken,” Will said, shaking his head. “If you guys will excuse me, I gotta go help out with a few more things.” Before Jasper or Ariana either one had the chance to say anything, Will disappeared into the crowd.

”Don’t worry about it,” Jasper laughed. “I know it doesn’t exactly go down all that smooth, but I’m sure it’ll do the trick. Besides - people will just be happy to have something to get a buzz off of.”

“That’s very true!” she nodded, tossing her used cup inside a nearby trash can before turning back to her date and taking hold of his arm again. “Now come on. Let’s go take a few selfies together before we hit the dance floor. The lighting is horrible, but we look way too cute together to pass up.”

Featuring Leo Brooks & Soleil Jameson

Throwing open the double doors of the Arts Building, Leo emerged into the New Mexico heat after his rather interesting interaction with a certain redhead. The sudden sunlight stung his brown eyes and caused him to squint, nearly walking into a poorly placed trash can. Why didn’t Tyler Jane like him? It was nearly impossible for anyone not to like Leo, or so he selfishly thought. Once acclimated to his outdoor surroundings, the boy began briskly walking across campus towards his first class of the day. He didn’t take the most efficient route by making his pit stop, but whatever, it was worth it… sort of.

In the distance, Leo could see his fellow classmates making their way across campus just like he was. Some headed towards the cafeteria, including his friend Nicholas, who he could easily identify by the way he walked. He had the same kind of confident gate that Leo did and it was easy to pick him out of a crowd. Leo made a mental note to himself to find him later- maybe Nick knew something about Tyler Jane that he didn’t. Also headed to the cafeteria was Zakya, another person who didn’t walk, but strutted with confidence across campus. Leo hadn’t heard from her over the weekend, so he’d have to change that when he saw her in math class later. A flirtatious wink usually did the trick.

As the brown haired boy approached the Academic Building, he could also see the fitness center in his line of vision. Checking his watch, he saw that he shockingly still had a few minutes, 5 to be exact, before class started, so he made a diversion to scope out the competition in the gym. The large glass windows made it easy for anyone to look inside (which Leo liked since all of the girls could watch him lift) so he peered in to check out what was going on. Spotting Sol getting in her morning workout, he admired her form and watched as she… violently lifted up the bar and weights from the leg press with her feet and they loudly clattered to the floor. Aggressive much? At the sight of his best friend clearly in a bad mood, he decided to make a second detour, pulling open the door of the fitness center and waltzing into the student gym. Navigating past the exercise machines, he meandered over to the weight machines where Sol sat and with a chuckle, he tried to get her attention and waved for her to take off her headphones.

“Jesus, is it that time of the month? Remind me not to piss you off this week.”

Soleil couldn’t help but snort at her best friend’s words. As much as she hated to admit it, she was kind of relieved that, out of every single person that could have stumbled on her when they did, Leo had been the one to find her. He’d be a welcome distraction from her thoughts-- or at least the one person who would probably understand them the best… If she were to tell him, that is.

“You? Not piss me off? You'd have better luck wrestling a bear and coming out of it unharmed," Shady joked, playfully punching her friend in the ribs but following it up with a side hug.

Leo rolled his eyes, but then dissolved into a hearty chuckle. The bond that he and Soleil had formed over the past two months was unprecedented; something Leo never thought could happen when he arrived at San Agustin. He didn’t expect to make such a good friend on campus, a girl, no less. But the two instantly clicked, and it was evident that they were destined to be friends.

“Fuck, well guess I’ll be walking on eggshells this week. There’s a punching bag over there though, so don’t ruin my face. It’s my moneymaker.” The boy took his hand and combed it through his hair, making sure it remained intact. “Seriously though, you good?”

"I'll punch your dick, then. Keep you out of commission for a while. How's that?" Sol asked him, keeping a straight face for as long as she could before erupting into loud laughter at Leo's horrified expression. "Chillax, bro. I'd never do you dirty like that!" the girl chuckled, slapping him in the back.

She thought for a moment about skirting around his concern for her well-being, or lying about what was really bothering her. But she was a terrible liar. Her body language always betrayed how she really felt on the inside, and Leo knew her well enough to recognize when she was bullshitting him. So after taking a deep breath, Sol finally spoke.

"I had another one of those dreams again…" she admitted, keeping her face as blank as possible so the boy wouldn't see how rattled this topic had her.

With his back turned to her, unaware of her facial expression and tone, Leo took his hand and placed it thoughtfully on his chin, crossing his other arm over his chest, pretending as though he was in deep thought. “You know, funny enough, I also had a bad dream last night. I was about to go on a date with this super hot model and I ran out of hair gel- total nightmare. I woke up screaming, it was awful.”

Looking back at Sol to see if she laughed, he saw her face held a blank stare, almost as though she wasn’t even there. Odd... Leo’s face went from pensive to puzzled and he took a step towards her, noticing the slight creases underneath her eyes to indicate she didn’t sleep well last night. “What kind of dream?”

The dark-haired girl raised an eyebrow at him. “You really want me to say it, don’t you?” she asked him, rolling her eyes. Leave it to Leo to want her to share every lewd, explicit detail about last night’s occurrence. Then again, could she have expected anything else from the Casanova of San Agustin?

“Yes, yes I do.” He crossed both of his muscled arms over his chest, drumming his fingers on his bicep. “I’m not the one having unclean thoughts about someone on campus...” Leo paused for a moment at Sol's raised eyebrow, processing what he had just said. “...okay scratch that, maybe I am, but I’m not the one having vivid sex dreams about certain men on campus. There, that’s factual.”

Instantly worried by his loud tone of voice, the panicked Sol whipped around to scan the area, and breathed a sigh of relief when she confirmed that there was nobody in their immediate surroundings. "Gee, why don't you say it a little louder? I don't think the guards at the front gate heard you!" the girl complained, smacking the back of Leo's head in punishment for his lack of discretion. "Jesus fuck, Leo, keep it down! But in my defense, though, the dreams haven't been about men plural, but a man, single. Only one guy out of the however many there are in this campus. That counts for something, right?"

Leo grimaced as Soleil whacked his head, immediately unfolding his arms and bringing his hand to the spot, rubbing it for relief. “Sol, like I said before, the punching bags are over there, and I am clearly not one of them.” Leo sighed, “You’re lucky you’re a girl, that’s for sure.” He muttered under his breath.

That earned him another, albeit softer, smack. "Say it to my face, bruh. I'll throw hands with you on the ring whether you're a dude or a chick. Try me. See what happens," Sol fearlessly challenged her friend, balling up her fists and pretending to be swinging like she would an opponent or a punching bag. She kept this bravado up for a few seconds before she chuckled and briefly hugged Leo. "Anyway, back to the topic. What's your take on it?"

“Regardless of how many men you’re dreaming of or not, why does it bother you so much that you’re dreaming about him? I mean, it’s not a bad thing you know.” Leo reasoned, taking a seat on one of the benches next to the free weights, resting his forearms on his quads. “Seriously though, you shouldn’t be ashamed of the fact you like someone.”

"That's easy for you to say, Romeo," Sol debated, grabbing a jump rope from the ground and trying to distract herself by seeing how far into this conversation she would get before stumbling. "You probably dream about a new chick or two every night, maybe more than one at once. But this? This is the first time anything like that has ever happened to me. My life’s always revolved around boxing and friends. I've never even thought about kissing a dude before. And now, all of a sudden, I can't stop dreaming about getting fucking pounded by this one guy? Like, what the fuck?" she grumbled, swinging and jumping the rope just a little faster. "And why him? Couldn't it be, I don't know, Sam, or Dwayne-- hell, I'd even take Nick. But T? I don't wanna fuck things up with T!" she grumbled angrily right before stumbling on the rope and nearly falling over. "Fuck!" she cried out in frustration, throwing the rope to the floor and rubbing her temples.

Leo listened as Sol went off on her tirade, watching as she spun up and grew more and more frustrated. He knew it wouldn’t end well right from the start, so he prepared himself for the worst. It was evident that she was agonizing over this, and Leo didn’t understand why it was so bad in the first place. Sure, the boy was a little upset when he first found out that of all the people on campus she could have picked from, she chose Theo to set her sights on. Theo. But, in all fairness, he wasn’t a terrible person, and from what it sounded like, he treated her well, so Leo couldn’t really see what the issue was. Her fears she described were valid, but those alone shouldn’t be causing this much anxiety for her.

Leo watched as Sol exploded, launching the rope with everything she had in her, luckily, not towards him. Standing up, he quickly wrapped his friend in an embrace, attempting to console her. She was well… causing a scene. “Hey, hey, hey, easy now, calm down. Breathe.” Taking a step away and releasing her after she’d followed his instructions. Once she seemed calmer, he spoke again. “First of all, I would take any advice I give you with a grain of salt because as we know, commitment is not in my vocabulary. Second, you shouldn’t be toiling over this so much. Like, seriously, you need to relax- there’s nothing wrong with you for thinking about him…in that way… because clearly you’re drawn to him for some reason. And I don’t know why you are, but you are, and you shouldn’t push those feelings away.”

Soleil let out a deep sigh. “I just don’t want to mess things up, you feel me?” she admitted, slumping her shoulders in defeat. “Okay, let’s say some higher power was to possess me and I told T how I feel, and it turns out he doesn’t like me back? One: I’d look like a fucking idiot. And two: my rep would be shot to hell. That’s not really something I wanna do, man. I don’t want anyone to go around thinking I’m a sentimental little pussy or an emotional little bitch.”

“If he doesn’t like you back, then you just move on. A bump in the road. You’re not gonna know if you don’t try.” Leo smirked, laughing at his own choice of words. “Damn, I sound like a fucking greeting card, what have you done to me...” Looking at his chuckling friend once more, he sighed. “Have you eaten anything today? Because you know, you’re not you when you’re hungry. The boy caught a glimpse of the clock nailed to the far wall and shook his head. “Fuck it, I’m not going to class. Why don’t we go grab some breakfast? Maybe that’ll ease your mind a bit.”

“That sounds like the first good idea you've come up with since the day I met you," Sol joked, patting Leo's back and turning on her heel in the direction of the showers. But before she could go further than a few steps, she looked back at her best friend. "Thanks for the advice, Leo. I can't promise you I'll take it, but I appreciate you listening. Just… swear to me you won't go around telling people I have feelings or something like that. I can't have everyone thinking I have a heart," she teased with a grin.

“Cross my heart...if I had one either…”

Smiling and shaking her head, the now cheerful Sol made her way to the gym showers to get herself ready for the day. And twenty minutes later, she and Leo had made their entrance to the school's cafeteria.

A @metanoia & @Rosalia Collaboration
Featuring Joey Hart & Charlotte Diedrikson

“What!?” Joey exclaimed. Sitting near the back and as close to the exit of the auditorium as she could manage, Joey sat in her seat, bearing witness to such a travesty that it made her physically ill on top of actually being physically ill.

It’s true, Joey wasn’t feeling like her best self. She barely talked to anyone for most of the day yesterday but that was mostly due to how weak she felt after getting back to the sorority house. She didn’t know if it was the mild heartbreak of seeing Lottie and Kieran, the indigestion from a 3AM snack that didn’t agree with her or the remnants of the effect of the E that she stupidly took, thinking it was a good idea and that it would make her feel better. In the moment it did, but the moment passed and for over 24 hours, Joey immediately regretted it.

Sitting there, yeah she was trying to stomach the news of academic probation. She shared the sentiments of those who thought it was unfair, an abuse of power, and just flat out rude. But then you had some who, similarly to Joey, were too hungover from the Bash to register exactly what happened. And the truth was, as much as she was feeling all types of nauseous, Joey had bigger things to worry about. Of course she had seen the video and of course she knew that Cass and Theo probably were most to blame, but she didn’t want to cast the blame solely on them, not when she was at the party too and especially not when she indulged in some of the illegal activity the Headmistress explained. Besides…

buzzbuzzbuzz

Inside her striped shirt front pocket, over the left side of her chest, Joey felt a strong vibration from her phone. She ignored it for the time-being but then she felt another and then another. It was at the point she checked it just so she could shut it off. Before that could happen, however, she read the message quickly. It mentioned Jasper and it seemed to come from that cutie Nathan Blake. Joey also realized one, little discrepancy. “Nate, he didn’t…” She giggled, though part of her did feel bad. He was probably in for a world of hurt, especially if a certain twin brother found out.

Joey wasn’t sure if she should feel terrible for not caring enough about Nate’s ordeal or not, but she thought about it more and pocketed her phone, moving her legs along to the courtyard, taking a seat on the cool, refreshing grass under a pine tree. Her legs were brought halfway to her chest and Joey fooled around on her phone, face-timing with her twin brother. Brad, hey! What time is it for you?”

“A little after five,” Brad said, smiling at Joey’s weary face. “You look like hell.”

Joey laughed. “Gee thanks,” she said, shaking her head with a smile. “You don’t look so hot yourself,” she teased, partially sticking her tongue out of her twin.

It had been nearly nearly two years since Brad had enlisted in the Navy. Joey hadn’t graduated from the English boarding school she was shipped off to after their sweet sixteen and he was already off to their form of basic training. So, really, the only chances she had to talk, let alone see Brad, was on the off chance his shore leave was near wherever she was staying at, or their bi-weekly facetime chats. She treasured these moments and anything else was non-essential.

“So, what’s going on?” Joey asked. Before she got an answer, she happened to look up and there was Lottie, walking over. Rolling her eyes, she sighed and glanced down at her screen. “Sorry, I’ll have to call you later.”

“Oh,” Brad said, disappointed, “Well I’ll be free for the next five hours. Nothing to do here. Talk later then!” Brad waved and kissed before the call ended.

Joey stayed seated but brought her legs closer to her and balanced her phone in her lap and looked up. “Hey,” Joey said, half-smiling up at the petite blonde that towered over her.

“What the fuck is up with that?!” Lottie cried out as soon as she’d reached her girl, jerking her head in the direction of the auditorium they’d just left and plopping herself next to Joey. “They can’t just put everyone in probation! Do they even realize what that means for the athletes and the artists?! And, like: how do they even know if I was at that party or not?! For all they know, I was watching Netflix in bed with you the whole weekend! Or at least that’s what I told Dad, anyway. He wasn’t happy when we talked, but after I swore up and down I hadn’t been near that party he told me he was looking into it. And you know when DA Diedrikson says he’s gonna look into it, whoever’s in his way better be in for a war.”

Her smile lessened, though it still held its u-shape. She had spent most of the time Lottie did complaining glancing at her phone, checking for messages, so a lot of what the blonde girl had said went in one ear and out the other. She caught the last of it, though and found herself nodding, if not slowly. “Yeah, I’m sure,” Joey said, her head lifting itself up and resting against the cool bark, its rough surface providing a weird, relaxing calm for Joey’s rising annoyance. “So what’s up?” She asked.

When you knew someone as well as Lottie did Joey, it didn’t take long to notice the signs when something was bothering her. The body language, the lack of enthusiasm and intentional disinterest in what was being said… It was textbook ‘Joey is annoyed’ behavior. The question was what, out of all the million reasons she could have, was the main reason for her annoyance.

“I guess I should be asking you that,” the blonde said curtly, her cheerful manner giving way to a cautious curiosity. “What’s up with you, J? Everything okay?”

“Oh, I’m fine. Couldn’t be better! Absolutely peachy!” She wasn’t able to pull off sarcasm like most would. When she attempted it, it sounded more like someone putting on their best, fake impersonation of a person successfully using sarcasm. When she did it, the blanket that she typically put over herself to hide her true feelings was nonexistent. She looked at Lottie and asked, “Why do you ask?”

Uh oh. This wasn’t good. “Oh, I don’t know, maybe because of how you’re acting right now?” Lottie quickly shot back, her eyebrows knitted together in a frown now. She didn’t appreciate the tone Joey was taking with her. She was her girlfriend, and they were supposed to be open and honest with each other.

Joey rolled her eyes, not bothering to turn her head around to hide it from Lottie. And since she wasn’t doing anything to hide how she really felt (aside from outright admitting it), she put her phone in her pocket and stood up. “Sorry but I have to pee,” she said, abruptly walking away and to the nearest women’s bathroom she could find, which happened to be a lot closer to the auditorium than she thought and she went inside.

“Don’t apologize, because I’m not leaving you alone until you tell me what’s up,” Lottie called out after her, hurrying away after Joey and taking guard outside the door of the bathroom stall she had occupied. “I’m still here, Jo. I’m not going anywhere, so you might as well just tell me what’s going on or we’ll be here all day.”

Her ruse didn’t work. She didn’t have to pee, but she knew Lottie knew that she had a weak bladder, so that excuse was an easy one to rely on. She was just going to head in the direction of the bathroom and go somewhere else, but when she saw Lottie had started to follow her and was hot on her trail, she had no choice but to actually go inside. “You’re going to be waiting a while!” Joey shouted from inside the stall. “I drank a lot of water this morning.” Another lie. She didn’t feel like talking and just wanted to be left alone but Lottie, the Persister, didn’t get the memo.

“I’ve got all the time in the world, pumpkin!” the short girl insisted, crossing her arms in front of her chest and making no motion to leave the bathroom. There was no way she would be letting this go anytime soon. Charlotte knew that the longer whatever was happening festered inside of Joey, the worse it would be when things finally exploded. “You can talk and pee at the same time, you know. Your mouth doesn’t stop working when your bladder does.”

She sat on the shockingly clean toilet seat, repeatedly tapping her left foot while she considered all of her options. Lottie not leaving made her anxious and knowing she wasn’t going to leave wasn’t doing much for the bottomless pit-like feeling she felt in her gut. The longer she sat there, the more she remained fixated on a singular image: the sight of Lottie with Kieran. It played back like it was the only thing she could see. The result of that was her current mood. And it festered. She didn’t want to feel like this nor could she explain why.

But in a moment that flew by her, so did the stall door and Joey rushed out, passing Lottie by and stopping in front of the sink. She glanced up at the mirror, turning her head slightly to the right and gave the blonde as much attention as she could muster. “Why are you even here, Lo?” Joey asked. “I thought for sure you would have been clinging to Kiki any moment you got the chance to.” She remembered exactly how desperate Lo was to see Kiki, so her being here now, even after Joey had excused herself, didn’t make a lot of sense to her. “Or did you guys get enough time together in the cabin and now you want to be with me?” She asked bitterly.

“You can’t be serious…” Lottie muttered in disbelief, slowly shaking her head before turning to stare at Joey. Out of all the possible things that could be bothering her girlfriend, this was possibly the last one Charlotte was expecting. And the more she thought about it, the dumber it sounded. That’s why you’re mad? Because I wanted to spend time with Kiki after months of not seeing him, and even after the however many times we hung out during the summer?”

“It’s not because you wanted to spend time with him or even that you spent the summer with me,” Joey said, facing Lottie, hand positioned on the edge of the sink. “It’s that you didn’t even bother asking if I wanted to spend time with him as well!” Joey shouted, her voice cracking. Echoing. “Instead, you just went up and left me without so much of a goodbye.” Her hand gripped tightly on the edge of the white sink.

“Are you listening to yourself right now?!” Charlotte yelled back, the absurdity of this whole argument making her scoff. What in the actual fuck was happening right now? “You’re pissed at me because I didn’t say bye to you, Joanna?! Seriously?! Are you jealous of Kiki or something? Because I’ve been hooking up with him for three years now without it being a problem! Why is this suddenly all a big fucking deal?” She had no idea what had gotten into Joey, but whatever it was needed to go now.

Joey wished she could tell Lottie the reason why. She wished that she had an answer that made sense, but the soul-crushing truth was she didn’t because even Joey didn’t know why. Yes, it was true that she had literally no problems with her and Kieran, well until a couple of days ago. Even them talking about him didn’t strike a chord, but something changed the moment she ran into Kieran’s arms. For nearly two days (when she was thinking about it), she tried to come up with a reason as to why she was so angry, why she felt so betrayed, and why she had kissed Jade for (mostly) all the wrong reasons.

At the end of it all, she couldn’t and that’s what frustrated her the most. That’s why she’s been moody and it’s why she couldn’t bring herself to look Lottie in the eyes. She knew her girlfriend was right. She knew it and it irritated her even more. Moments before speaking, she let out a defeated sigh. “What’s the point in telling you? It won’t change anything,” Joey said quietly, though still loud enough for Lottie to hear her.

As much as Charlotte wanted to stay angry at Joey, there was no way her girlfriend’s crestfallen expression and defeated tone didn’t tug at her heartstrings. She hated seeing her hurting, hated making her sad, and hated knowing she was the reason behind it all. “Baby, what’s going on?” Lottie asked the platinum-haired girl in a kinder voice, reaching out to cup Joey’s face in her hands and basically pleading with her eyes for an answer. “Tell me what I’m doing wrong so I can fix it. I love you, okay? You know I don’t want to see you like this.”

When Lottie’s hand came to caress Joey’s cheek, she immediately slapped it away and stepped back about a foot and a half. “Then don’t! Go see your precious Kiki instead!” Joey’s venomous words came out and she knew they stung harder than anything Joey had said in a long time.

The spite in Joanna’s words hurt Charlotte harder than any injury she had ever suffered in her life, even as an athlete. The blonde could almost hear her heart shattering in her chest, filling her with a pain she’d never thought possible. For the last three years, Lottie had devoted her time to making her girlfriend the happiest, most spoiled girl she could be. Here she had been: making sure her JoJo was loved and cared for in her highs and lows, in all circumstances, unconditionally. And this is how she was paying her back? By pushing her away and hurting her with harsh words-- all over an unsaid goodbye?

Nope, not happening. Not on her watch.

Although her eyes were full of tears that were quickly streaming down her cheeks, Charlotte icy resolve was definite. “You know what? I’m going to do just that,” she said coldly, walking past Joey with squared shoulders. She was about to reach the exit when she turned to face the girl one last time. And even when she knew what she would say next was probably the last nail in the coffin, Lottie knew it needed to be done for her own peace of mind. “I’m done with you, Joanna. I’m done with all of this nonsense. After all that we’ve been through, I don’t deserve to be treated this way, and I’m not going to put up with it. I’m going to crash at Mac’s for a few weeks, or at least until I get the living part figured out for the rest of the semester. I’ll get my stuff from your room after practice and be gone before you’re back.” And with one last sigh, Charlotte turned on her heel and walked away.

Wait. Don’t go. I’m sorry.

Joey’s voice betrayed her. Her timing was too little and way too late for it to matter; and when it set in, so did she onto the ground. She gripped the sink until the shortness of her arm fell down, smacking on the tiled floor. There she sat, cold and alone. She craved comfort but in solitude, the only one to comfort her were fractured memories and a broken heart barely holding itself together.
