Oh! I'm not an expert on kanji either, haha. But yeah, so, @Xiro Zean, the reading doesn't affect the meaning of the name any. You can use either the Japanese or Chinese reading for kanji in a name, and it doesn't change the meaning itself - only the kanji themselves affect that.

And yeah, I think Reo might be a reading exclusively used in names...? I could be wrong, but I haven't heard that reading for those kanji either. It looks to be used as a name in real life too, though. Might be one of those cases like "Raito" used as an unusual reading, haa.

As for the meaning, ๅถบ means peak or summit, and I had to google ่‡ฃ. Knew that it's used in the word for minister, but alone it seems to mean subject or a retainer? Make of that whatever meaning you will. (Mountaintop would sound cooler than "Retainer of the summit", at least...)
O-- posted before I saw that question or answer. I wasn't sure how big the group that went to explore the town was, but I assumed we had at least a few other (NPC) kids with us, and possibly split up in the town for an easier search.

Err, let me know if I need to edit my post any, and I will! I left things pretty vague on purpose; only mentioned one boy with a torch - could be an NPC, or if any of the players wants to jump into that role, that works too. Can also assume they're all in the same group as Eli, or they split up or... yeah, whatever you had planned.

Unknown Town
Midnight

Eli never believed in ghosts. They were nothing but products of a simple mind, existing only in stories told to babes and old men to fill their heads with needless fear. She was almost a woman grown. Her resolve would not be shaken by such nonsense.

And yet, as the small group ventured deeper into the darkness of the town, Eli could imagine herself forgiving those who believed it haunted. She did not, no of course not, but those of a weaker mind--

A scream pierced the silent veil that had settled upon the town, and Eli immediately spun around, bow drawn. Her eyes darted about in the darkness, the tip of her bow lacking a target. A boy few years younger whimpered and thrust his torch forward. Light spread into the darkness, trembling in tandem with the boy's hand, until the source of the scream became visible. Someone had tripped and fallen.

Eli sighed, turning back to where she'd been heading. "Keep your wits about you," she mumbled to whoever happened to be in earshot and pressed on further.

The shadows around them seemed alive. They slithered up wooden walls like snakes, and if one stared at them long enough, they could nearly hear them hiss. Eli would have preferred real snakes to these ethereal ones, in truth.

The light of the torch illuminated yet another face of a man long gone. He was slumped against the outer wall of a house that seemed brand new, carved of wood finer than many a house around it. Eli guessed he used to be rich. In death, he didn't look any different from the corpses of the less wealthy; his eyes were equally empty, and shadows danced upon his pale face all the same, silently mocking his fate.

Eli averted her gaze before her stomach could turn.

She held her bow at ready and edged towards the open door next to him. Whether he'd been meaning to escape or join the fray, the man hadn't gotten far before someone had plunged a dagger into his throat. Was whoever did it to him also dead? He should have been, yet Eli found it hard to still her racing heart as she reached for the door.

It creaked.

Had Aelinor not been accompanied by others, she would have jumped out of her skin. As things were, her pride kept her legs steady and aim steadier. Bow braced, she pushed the door open with one boot. The torch-boy stepped behind her and lit the way inside. The light licked at the wooden floor, sprucing the shadows back into a crazed dance on the walls.

Steadying her breath, Eli stepped inside to explore. If the man was rich, the chances of finding something of use were high - that was, unless someone else had gotten here first.

A sudden shudder ravaged her spine. If someone had, she truly wished they were long gone by now.

Off topic, but the fact that this was what you used for the interest check gets a happy chuckle out of me for some odd reason.

Probably because I'm trash and actually enjoyed B Gata H Kei

Oh, so that's what that is from! Never heard of the series, unfortunately. I was trying to find a pic that would work with the whole H = ecchi pun, but my Google Fu was pretty weak and I couldn't really find anything funny. That was one of the first ones I saw, so I figured I'd better just grab it before someone else beat me to the letter, heh.
No offense, but I think people usually ask if they need help with their characters' names. Just up and doing it does give off a smart-ass vibe, though I'm sure that wasn't your intention.

Especially since your help seems to be basically copy-pasting a pronunciation of a word into jisho.org and picking the top results. That's not exactly how Japanese people pick the kanji for their names. They don't just choose an existing Japanese word with multiple kanji that happens to be pronounced the way they want and go "okay, that works".

There's a plethora of kanji than can be pronounced "ten", and just as many that can be pronounced "shin", for example. You can, in theory, combine any of those kanji you happen to like to form a name and a meaning - like ten for heaven and shin for trust. And thus you'd get "heavenly trust". And so on and forth.

Also, for the record, "foreign minister" in Japanese is also pronounced "gaisho". Multiple words often have the same pronunciations, so just because one of those words is questionable doesn't mean everyone will immediately jump to thinking that's what was meant.

Tl;dr: Let's give people a lil break with their names, and offer help if asked instead, yeah?

Going to be working on a CS this weekend, hopefully!
@Tenma Tendo Basically, yeah! They could either be unaware of each others' existence or no, whichever would work.
@Vertigo ah I see, I def want a villain kid too. If it's aloud and you still want to, maybe our characters could be siblings? The idea with Weiss sounds super interesting as well :)

I'd be fine with them being siblings, yeah! My only issue'd just be that I'd really like to play a faunus, so if Emerald is with Mercury, that's impossible. That is, unless she had someone unnamed before she got together with him? So they'd be half siblings...

Haha, interesting as the Weiss idea is, I'm not sure I'd like to play Weiss' kid myself. But it's a thought.
@neogreggory Ren and Nora or a possible descendent of Penny sound really interesting! I was thinking about doing Mercury and Emerald ^^

Ah, I was thinking of doing Emerald (not with Mercury though) as well, but I can also go for something else. Just really want a villain's kid.

Would also be interesting to have Weiss' descendant... and make the kid a faunus (with the father also having been a faunus, in that case).

@neogreggory I was thinking along the lines of a offspring of Raven.

So Yang's sister/brother?
I'm never not interested in RWBY.

Probably looking to make a faunus, probably part of the second group. Not sure whose descendant they would be - was considering one of the villains', if allowed.
