Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

  • Name: Abigail Williams
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: "I'm a bad girl!" "A very bad girl."
  • Personality: A young and innocent girl who seems to be the polite and friendly sort. Abigail tends to assume the best of others in most cases, and often appears not to fully understand some of the implications of her actions. Still, she is a sweet and friendly girl most of the time, and also fairly religious, given she was born in Puritan Salem. She is quite affectionate to those she considers to be her friends, and seems to enjoy playing and doing most things that a girl her age should be enjoying. Abigail deeply enjoys sweet things, especially pancakes, and most people would consider her to be a totally normal girl at first glance. Even when using her abilities, she sometimes seems rather skittish about them(even if she occasionally shows pride towards accomplishing victory in a difficult fight). She also adamantly insists she is not a witch, no matter how unusual her capabilities may seem. Having spent plenty of time among magi, both her Master and Casters, however, has caused her to no longer view the concept of a witch with fear. Even if she will still insist that she is not one. She will sometimes state that her actions mean she is a bad girl, as well. However, she she fully exerts her powers, her demeanor seems to change. Her tone of voice becomes far more calm, and she develops a sadistic edge, especially in combat. She also no longer displays a skittish reaction to any of her capabilities, instead embracing them. Abigail will also develop an interest in things inappropriate for her age, such as trying alcoholic beverages. It is unlikely, however, that she will take on her Outer Form without being pushed to do so first. Even with the change in attitude, however, it is clear the same girl is beneath the more sadistic and malevolent demeanor, and she will still use the powers to protect her friends.
  • Brief History: A Servant who appeared during a singularity occuring in Salem, technically this Abigail and the Abigail who appeared there are the same and yet different. Regardless, she has been a happy member of Chaldea's ever-expanding roster of Servants for a considerable amount of time, now. However...
  • Universe of Origin: The Nasuverse, specifically the Fate/grand order iteration
  • Equipment: Her teddy bear, Mi-Go. It can, surprisingly, serve as a somewhat effective weapon due to her capabilities as a Servant and can move independently of her body when Abigail is in Outer Form.
  • Abilities: Abigail's nature is that of a Servant. As a result, without any form of supernatural enhancement it becomes impossible to cause damage to her. She is also much stronger and faster then a little girl should be. Abigail can also assume an incorporeal form, but she is unlikely to do that as it is more fun to remain physical. Her more unique abilities are significantly more esoteric, however. Abigail is a Foreigner-class Servant, defining an individual who has gained the powers of an outer god while retaining their sanity. However, due to her nature, she is capable of generating portals even without the influence of the evil extradimensional god known as Yog-Sothoth. Instead, it is through these portals that she uses the power granted by this contract writhing, strangely-shaped tentacles to assault the target. In spite of the fact that the nature of her abilities remains the same regardless of what form she has taken, in her regular incarnation these attacks appear to be golden light in the shape of tendrils and other strange creatures. In her outer form, she obtains a huge key that can be used as a sword, and the ability to summon even more strange creatures and unmasked tentacles, including swarms of exploding insects. In any form, she is capable of firing a large beam from her forehead, either from seemingly no-where or from a keyhole in her head in Outer Form. In Outer form, the beam is significantly more powerful. Abigail is also capable of transitioning between her ordinary form to her Outer Form and back, though it will take a great deal of emotional distress, anger or sadness, to cause her to utilize her Outer Form. In any form, she has the ability to erode the mental state of ordinary humans, but she restrains this capability due to being unwilling to harm innocent people.
    • Qliphoth Rhizome
      The act of opening a gate via her link to Yog-Sothoth. Technically, it is a Noble Phantasm capable of assaulting the entire planet, but due to restrictions placed on it(possibly by Abigail herself) it is only capable of attacking a single target. When unleashed, the target is drawn beyond the gate, their mind and body assaulted by the presence of the outer god within a root of the Tree of Evil. While it is not impossible to survive this assault, it is an attack that can cause enormous damage to the target's mental and physical state and strip away and protections or enhancements they have placed upon themselves. In spite of its power, Abigail is reluctant to use something so devastating in nature. She would have to be pushed exceptionally far in order to release it.

  • Name: Konpaku Youmu
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: "Ah, yes, Yuyuko-sama, it is quite tasty." Youmu is pretty small, at under five feet.
  • Personality: Calm, collected, serious. These are things Youmu tries to be at all times. To her credit, in a fight she is a dangerous and focused opponent, but outside of combat she is prone to being rather awkward. Her attempts to remain collected often fail, as Youmu is easily surprised and confused. She is not unintelligent, but it is simply quite easy to exasperate or perplex her. Youmu is easily frustrated by things that confuse her, and she is somewhat easy to mislead. However, she has been working on this, as to not fail Yuyuko. Youmu takes pride in her combat capabilities and her speed, as well as her katana, Roukanken and Hakuroken. In spite of her attempts to be a dutiful and serious warrior, Youmu retains a fear of ghost stories. In spite of being half ghost. And serving a ghost. However, when her opponent is not a ghost, Youmu can be a courageous fighter who refuses to give in. She also retains absolute loyalty to Saigyouji Yuyuko, even if the gluttonous ghost confuses and embarrasses her at times. Youmu is reluctant to kill other intelligent beings unless it is necessary to defend herself, Yuyuko, or others.
  • Brief History: Youmu was born into the Konpaku family, half-ghosts in service of the ruler of the Netherworld, Saigyouji Yuyuko. She was trained intensely in swordplay, and in how to garden in order to cultivate the gardens around Yuyuko's home. Soon enough, Youmu became Yuyuko's servant, dedicated to her service even when she was to cause an incident that nearly(unintentionally) caused the awakening of a malevolent entity in the form of a soul-eating cherry tree. Since then, Youmu has actively assisted in the resolution of several incidents.
  • Universe of Origin: Touhou
  • Equipment: Youmu carries two katana, Roukanken and Hakuroken.
    • Roukanken: An incredibly long katana, a nodachi that measures longer than the short girl is tall. Roukanken's blade was forged by youkai, allowing it to be nearly unbreakable. This is not the most notable feature of Roukanken, however. The katana's incredibly sharp blade transcends physicality, allowing it to cut apart even existences such as formless ghosts. Rocks, trees, flesh, steel, little can stand up to the unrestrained Roukanken. However, Youmu utilizes danmaku rules to avoid killing unless her life or the lives of others are in danger. Supernatural protection, or heavily augmented technology, may also defend against Roukanken.
    • Hakurouken: A wakizashi, Hakurouken possesses no ability to kill a living thing. Indeed, it is almost entirely harmless, causing some pain and discomfort but otherwise nothing else. Its capabilities lie in another area. It can be used to parry and it can incapacitate with enough blows, but the true nature of Hakurouken is its ability to divide things such as confusion. Certainly, cutting confusion is a valuable asset to the easily-confused Youmu. However, this is merely a side effect of its intended function. Hakurouken instantly causes the state of Nirvana in spirits it strikes, causing them to vanish utterly.
  • Abilities: Youmu is somewhat more durable than a regular human being, and has a somewhat more capable healing ability, but this is nothing as extreme as most youkai. As a half-ghost, a portion of her soul is embodied as a (usually)non-sentient floating phantom referred to as Myon. This can be used to observe distant areas, fire danmaku, or even temporarily become a duplicate of Youmu for double team attacks. Youmu also feels everything Myon feels, though she cannot be damaged in this way(something painful to Myon will be painful to Youmu, though). Youmu is an incredibly skilled swordswoman, capable of wielding her blades both one and two-handed. Her strength is above human level, allowing her to wield the incredibly long Roukanken one-handed. Youmu's attacking speed allows her to slash many times in an instant, to the point where it appears as a single attack. She can also move very quickly, in both air and on land, her speed making her the second fastest person in Gensokyo. This allows her to pull off her family technique, Two-Hundred Yojana in One Slash, covering an enormous amount of distance and come back in the time it takes to unsheath Roukanken and cut with it, allowing her to cut foes even quite a distance away. However, these shows of speed will eventually wear on her, so she cannot endlessly utilize her top speed. She also carries spellcards and is fully capable of flight. Her most powerful technique, both in spellcard form and as a true attack, is Reflecting Satellite Slash. This attack is simultaneously the cutting of her blade and a wave of blades reflected by the light of the moon, assaulting her opponent in a flash of light as she moves to cut through them. Even in nonlethal danmaku form it is a highly dangerous attack. However, it requires Youmu to hold still and gather power to properly perform it. In spite of all her advantages, Youmu is still partially human and can be injured as a human can, and while attacks to Myon do not cause physical harm, the pain caused by them can immobilize her.

Saber

The plan she laid out while they followed Fenrir's trail was not a particularly complex one. But that had been Saber's intent. A simple plan that was easily mutable on the fly. If something did go wrong, they could alter the plan quickly in order to compensate for whatever had changed. That was the value of simplicity, when it came to strategy. Sometimes, a complex plan simply wasn't the best option.

Unfortunately, the nature of the cavern Fenrir had chosen to hide itself in became more and more disturbing as the proceeded deeper. The red light, the strange thickness of the air... it simply wasn't natural. The feeling of the cave was the same as the feeling that Brynhildr had given off, a sort of sickness, a corruption that suffused the very essence of the cavern the deeper they went. And the feeling only became stronger the deeper they went.

"... I do not like the feeling of the air here, Master," Saber commented as they went deeper, "This place is an unnatural location. There is something terrible here."

And when they emerged into the larger cavern...

There.

Brynhildr was submerged in something dark, a horrible black mud that engulfed her utterly and filling the deepest deaths of the chasm. And there stood Fenrir, the great wolf, standing over it all... with a howl, he loosed a swarm of blackened abominations from the muck.

But the King of Knights had to wait, until the ranged and aerial assault took the massive wolf's attention completely.

And then...

"Charge!" cried Saber, darting forward. The air seemed to explode around her, as if she had been set off with a rocket! The instant she met the first of the black beasts, her invisible blade sliced through the air and cleaved it apart. Her goal was not to eliminate all of them, that was a task she left to the support of Archer and the Valkyries. Instead, she was aiming to cut a path straight through the shadowy monsters, to reach Fenrir himself! Sprinting through the cold cavern, feeling the corruption in the air whipping past her, Saber's blade met another one of the monsters, lodging into its upper body before being sliced downwards with a burst of magical energy, the brilliant light piercing another immediately behind the first!

But another of the beasts immediately swung a strange, tendril-like limb at her, forcing the small blonde knight to leap back to evade the crushing blow! However, before it could press its attack, she sliced through its torso and pushed her assault further! These creatures were more dangerous then the undead had been, but that didn't mean she would allow them to stop her!

Caster

That did not sound like genuine praise.

For much of the travel to the cavern, Caster had spent her time pouting at her Master. What kind of praise was that?! Certainly not anything worthy of the Elven Queen of the Undead, Skuld! Of course, when they arrived at the cave, she immediately picked up on the unpleasant feeling in the air. She was hardly about to stop anyone, given the gravity of the situation, but it was easy to detect that there was something pure evil located in the depths of the cave. The fact that the lighting suddenly became a dark, oppressive red was a rather strong indication of the fact that there was something terrible down there.

The fact that the valkyries were present meant that raising the dead probably wasn't the best idea. Caster wasn't in the mood to have them distracted from their duty by killing her toys.

She wasn't exactly prepared for the swarm of shadowy monsters pouring from the mud, either. But...

"Hmph, it will take far greater forces to impress the Elven Queen!" she declared, confidently. Indeed, it was not the creatures themselves that got her attention... no, it was the terrible blackened muck that Brynhildr was being submerged in. What was that? It practically exuded corruption! No wonder the valkyrie had been blackened as she had...

"Let me demonstrate the power of the legendary necromancer!"

Dozens and dozens of magic circles opened in the sky above her, as she ascended to the air alongside the valkyries on wings of black mist. A sound like dozens of tanks being fired tore through the air as she unleashed her assault of the army of dark creatures.

But something went wrong.

Not with her attack, but the plan as a whole.

Fenrir had still erected a wall of ice?!

The response to the boy was a rather sharp glare from Sophie, but she decided not to kick him again, at the very least. He was already suffering, and as long as he didn't try to speak to her again she wasn't going to go kicking him again. Well... most likely. Probably. If he valued his shins, or other vulnerable areas.

Soon enough, the quest, and those who would be undertaking it, were fully registered. Their names and ranks were recorded, and they were dispatched out onto the busy street. Sophie immediately took the lead, believing she had every right to do so as she had been intending to take the quest from the start.

"Just so everyone is clear," she began, "I'm not the type of person who just follows orders."

Placing her hands on her hips, her ponytail bobbing, the diminutive purple-haired girl turned to face the others.

"If you think I'm going to fall in line just because some of you are a higher rank than I am, you're an idiot," she continued, "I've made my way just fine on my own as an Adventurer! In a party, it's not like I won't cooperate with my fellow adventurers. But don't go thinking you can order me around just because of your rank! Got it?"

Sophie surveyed the others, her gaze rather intense.

In the background, however, possibly undermining the short girl's demanding assertion, there was new stand.

Given that it had been set up right outside the Adventurer's guild it was rather clear what clients the owner was trying to attract.

Speaking of the owner, she was a somewhat unique sight. A young, pretty, blue-haired Akitsushiman girl clad in a kimono, waving one hand in the air.

"Weapons, armor, and goods from Akitsushima!" she declared, her speech accented but clear, "I can get anything you order, as long as I can carry it!"

Assassin

"Um..."

Truthfully, this wasn't a situation Assassin was used to. In life, any bases of operation that the Shinsengumi required were easily accessible, at least during her active period. And she had always had somewhere to call home. Being completely without either of these things was an utterly foreign experience for the silvery-haired girl. And, once again, it was far worse for her Master than it was for her, at this stage.

"Eh-heheh, this is a pretty tough situation, isn't it?" she mused with an awkward laugh, one fight touching her cheek as she did. They certainly couldn't go sitting in the park all this time... "... Maybe we could make an alliance with another one of the Masters?"

It might have seemed like a bad idea at first, but right now it seemed like the only possible option they had.

"We could put off our fight until the end of the war, and in exchange they'd give us somewhere to stay. I guess it's kind of risky, though..." Assassin trailed off. She honestly didn't even like her own idea very much, but they had to do something, and staying with a civilian wasn't an option. "Aaah, this is pretty difficult!"

@Raineh Daze
@Destro1666: Alright!
"Why... why should I?!" declared the Drider, attempting to be defiant even though she had now been strongarmed off of her golem and rather unceremoniously carried down.

Fanilly stepped forward, facing the drider with her eyes narrowed.

"The one you are protecting sent a band of orcs to slaughter a nearby town. Is she truly worth it, knowing that?" she asked. The blonde knight girl didn't understand any of this. The Drider seemed adamant that her teacher had done nothing wrong... if she had to guess, she suspected that the Drider had been educated in magic outside of the normal circles. That, of course, would make her a witch. Witchcraft, of course, being the practice of magic through methods outside of normal education. Tutors and mage academies were freely accepted in most countries, but the practice of magic in wild places with unknown teachers certainly was not. In Thaln, practioners of witchcraft were not persecuted, but it was technically illegal, and those who pursued such endeavors were often shunned in rural areas. The Drider was likely no exception to this.

Perhaps she adamantly believed the 'dark lady's' innocence because she had been treated well by her?

"What?" the Drider looked shocked, "There's no way that could be true! Orcs... orcs are evil, but my teacher was using a spell to control them! She even showed me! They shouldn't be able to attack innocent people..."

"I saw it with my own eyes," Fanilly asserted. She didn't understand what was going on here. Using orcs, but hiding it all from her student? Just what was going on here? The drider seemed to be innocent of any actual crimes beyond witchcraft, at least, but... what was happening? Ah, it was just too confusing!

And then...

At the top of the stairs, there was a woman. She was beautiful, with long, black hair, pale skin, clad in a black dress with a furred collar...

"... Oh, dear me, what terrible ruffians," she commented, placing a hand to her cheek, "What are you doing to my student?"

The drider immediately brightened on seeing her.

Fanilly raised her sword carefully, eyes fixed on the woman. There was almost no chance this wasn't the dark lady they had been told about.

"Now she can explain!" declared the drider, confidently.

So just need some people to post and I can move on. ^^;

If people are stuck I can skip ahead to the party leaving the guild. There's something I want to handle before the quest gets under way, but that should only be a couple posts.
So where is everyone? ^^;
