Looking Ahead
  • The new RPGC forum writing contest is set to launch in March. It's a fun, friendly competition where you can write, read, critique, and vote -- and now, you can even join the team and help run the whole show. You can find more information about RPGC here.
New Guild Features
  • Topic title editing
  • Character counter
  • New PM notification that counts number of new posts rather than overall number.
  • User name tagging (format is [@User Name]) and notification system.
  • User bio section
  • Characters tab added to roleplaying topics.
  • New BBCode, with colors and super/subscript and headings.
  • And many more that you can view here; there's a lot under the hood. I just listed the ones that you guys have probably already noticed.
Thought Experiment
Thinking about the what ifs for characters can be fun and a great way to figure out and learn who exactly your character is. Considering the given situation below let's share and discuss how you think one of your current or past characters would respond to this scenario. How would your character respond if they were to win a million dollars? What would they do with the money? Feel free to reply to this question in this thread.
Up and Coming
Interest checks are often the first stage in recruiting players for an RP, and a really good one can net you a lot of applicants. These are some of the interest checks that caught our attention recently. Best of all, they're looking for players!
Current and Cool
Roleplays on this list have already started (but may still be recruiting, please consult the GM) and also caught our attention; the hard work the GM and players put in to setting up the RP, writing their sheets and hashing out the details have paid off and now they're writing their in-character (IC) posts.
Tough Mudders
These are RP's that just keep going. We try to recognize these RP's when their year has happened. If you know of any that qualify, please let RPGN know by PM.
On Display
- Writing: A pocket dimension... - Fleeter has started up an interesting story revolving around a person trapped in a room with an old book written with mysterious symbols. We look forward in seeing how this story progresses as the mystery behind the book is unraveled!
About RPGN
RPGN is produced by a volunteer staff of unwittingly imperiled camp counselors with the goal of bringing Guild members current and useful information about goings-on in our community. We are always accepting suggestions on categories and content. We're particularly interested in displaying people's artwork as a banner (and will fully credit it and link your gallery -- woo). For more information, feel free to PM RPGN.

Welcome back news thread. As per the thought experiment:
How would your character respond if they were to win a million dollars? What would they do with the money?
My first question is: "Which character?" In the case of my newest, Hugh McTrenkel it's most undoubtedly be donated out to the less fortunate of his community and would thereby probably cause a local economic collapse from the massive deflation of his world's equivalent of a dollar. At least in the area. This would then most likely facilitate them being forced to find a way to blow off the money to normalize things. There'd be no real targeted way to use it. He'd just get rid of it on the spot. As for the rest, most are under the governance of an alternate history Communist government in China so a million dollars would be an even greater source of shock than now, then great concern because the state would probably find out and find a way to seize it. Even from the other government officials. But a millions dollars would be a drop in a bucket for the state and would maybe go and feed a regiment active in Russia for a week. Provided of course the kids I'm running in a civilian story arch learn how to embezzle first, then they could probably figure something else out.

Sahle Solomonid would most likely try to save it but ultimately end up blowing it on hallucinogens.

I never did post anything for the last Thought Experiment, so I might as well do that now! For this, I'll be stripping away all of the setting details from my characters. Winning a million dollars doesn't matter too much to a bunch of nobles, and dollars don't mean anything when the national currency is "Work Credits". The character in question (Countess Lasis), happens to have a genetic disorder that makes her heart (along with every other part of her body) too weak for her homeworld's gravity. There are others like her, but there are so few that society as a whole barely acknowledges them, or treats them as fragile novelties if they do. If she won a million dollars, she would definitely try to start an awareness campaign for her disease. She hates being treated like a piece of fine china that will break with the slightest tap, and being sheltered (as you are when tripping is a death sentence), she expects everyone else with the condition to feel the same way. In reality, she's one of the only ones with the disorder that feels like that, the rest are perfectly content with living without ever walking. Lasis, on the other hand, insisted on an exoskeleton instead of a wheelchair, and even ended up as an Admiral (space being one of the few places she can function perfectly fine). Since she expects everyone else to be like her, she will likely find that her awareness campaign is a noble, but misguided effort. After trying to convince the others that she's living life the right way, she would likely hand over the entire organization to them, deciding that majority should rule. Hooray for tangents. I'm the best at them. (Just for fun, if the setting remained fully intact? She would be overjoyed to get her hands on "ancient relics")

Not quite what I meant. I was suggesting that you break it down into each section and PM them to the RPGN account for inclusion in future issues.

Jenna, a cowardly 23 year old with the disposition of thinking of her team before herself would probably use the money to aid her team with the financial support they would need to survive in the new life they've been given. Targeted by a corrupted government runned organization, safety measures would be her first thing she would want to acomplish followed by making sure they have a safe and well resourced place to learn and control the superhuman like abilities her team has been given. She might splurge every once in a while for herself and the others but she would be very careful on how she would use her money. Al on the other hand would be more reckless with his spending since money wasn’t something he had to worry much about due to his younger age. He would travel the world and would buy pricy souvenirs just because he had the ability to do so.

Ashley Winters is the President & CEO of a multinational company she does not play the lottery or enter contests. She would be suspicious. She would begin investigating/hacking to destroy anyone trying to steal her or her company's money. Claws is feral wouldn't know what to do with it, might possibly eat it. Dite is a world famous singer, she wouldn't notice. Kimiko is Dite's personal assistance/lover/body guard has equal access to Dite's wealth she rarely spends any money at all unless it is to satisfy one of Dite's whims or needs. Wolverine would probably keep some for whatever reason(s) and give the rest to Xavier's school. X-23/Talon give it all to Xavier's school. Jennifer Antoinette Watters would probably retire and buy a space ship. Felicia Steele would keep some to maintain her ship and buy supplies, the rest she would donate.
