<Snipped quote by ClocktowerEchos>

I hate on Libertarians for the same reason you and others hate on SJWs, Its an ideology I find stupid.

As far as rep, I've got absolutely no problem with being known for something that I absolutely believe, It'd only be a problem if I was misrepresented.

I might not always agree with @Dynamo Frokane, but I have to agree with the notion of owning up to one's beliefs and statements. No less, I would also have to agree that being subject to misrepresentation is more potentially damaging. Regardless of that however...

Thank you, @Hank. The notion of escaping one's person by the vehicle of a character they sympathize with or idealize seems like a reasonable conclusion for some.

These seems like a very charged thread. I guess that's to be expected when people's opinions are inserted to try to explain a thing.

Speaking of which, could someone explain the appeal of Star Trek? I've tried to get into it, but it just seems very dry and...homely I guess, it gives sci-fi a very mundane feel for me, which usually the word 'mundane' doesn't even come close to space because space is awesome and cool. Obviously I'm a star wars fan, which has it's own bloody and dishonorable history.

To throw in a very, very simple response: For me, Star Trek is much more diverse. It's sort of the perfect mesh-together of political opinion (metaphorical, of course) and culture and people interacting. I find that Star Wars has less branches that I can allow my imagination to follow whereas Star Trek, the possibilities seem almost infinite. Though, it's very hard to compare the two truly because they're so vastly different!

I find Star Trek more positive and in that sense, I think in some series it can be a little less bleak and some people can find that boring. I'm not sure if you particularly agree with that or not (perhaps you don't), but I'm just tossing out a very quick idea. (Saw 'Star Trek' and had to jump because I love it so much!)

What first got me into the original Star Trek series was the utter equality of characters. Both in character and out of character there was really no discrimination. It opened up a lot of avenues and was mature in how it dealt with lessons that could be learned revolving around serious subjects like that without making things too dire or heavy. Sure, I love grit sometimes, but sometimes, I want to go into something knowing everything will be (for the most part) okay.

Edit: ...and damn, the original series is just so hilarious with Shatner and Nimoy and Kelley. The camp is great fun!

Explain the appeal of League Of Legends (serious)

As an outsider to the genre myself @Dynamo Frokane, this is only from what I have observed and experienced from those who hold it in high, passionate regard.

League of Legends, as well as similar games for that matter, really capitalize on short, brief, high intensity conflict in a scenario that has a lot of meta. There is a lot of optimization, study and analysis that goes into actually playing "decently". It is exceptionally competitive because of that. Not only does a player need have rapid, snap-like reactions, they need dexterity; no less, strategy and coordination are pretty key. A well executed, coordinated team is going to run through competition. That means having a social circle of like-minded who all have their own talent in the same medium.

And once you have those people, you have peers and friends, with whom you are likely sharing a lot of personality and interests with. But the game itself?

It is diverse, with the aforementioned meta, statistics and play styles. You could be horrible at a number of characters, but when you find that one niche that leads to success, you can imagine players finally feel successful. All the frustrations of the community and other players fades in large part when they fall away.

In addition, I suppose it is needing mention, but the game is forgiving. You might lose a few games, but play with a few people you know and suddenly you find so much less issue. Until of course you find those who are just generally better at the game and with a slight favor of advantage like the factors of luck or those equally unpredictable.

At least that is my theory.

Explain the appeal of League Of Legends (serious)

If you said, "Mobas" I could answer with a little more clarity. But League of Legends? Specifically, honestly compared to almost any other MOBA it completes with. That would be a good question, because in my opinion aside from sheer amount/excess (and the cost that excess makes you suffer through.) it's inferior to most other experiences.

But. Things get popular for a reason, so maybe the answer I have. It's the most simplified/streamlined MOBA experience you could have. It's just easy to play, it's free to play and it's a team game that doesn't require as much time as an MMO. In fact a lot of sessions are quicker than most games. But you can also be good enough to carry a game yourself and it's not entirely team reliant. It's a unique experience for those who haven't played it. And gamers can enjoy themselves a unique experience. They also have some interesting character designs and some people can maybe enjoy the varied art style that it has.

Kids need games too ya know? :/

@Dynamo Frokane What are animes to begin with? They tell fantastical tales which captivate us, the audience, into sitting through them and watching with anticipation. Now what is good in a story to captivate us? Well that differs from person to person but for me, I find some of those key factors in SAO.

1. Death or Life - By adding this, suddenly everything becomes more intense. And this fact is used multiple times through the anime, shown by gruesome and tragical events. By far, these events leave the most heavy emotional impact on the viewer. Especially when it combines with a plot twist. One minute ago they are enjoying happy friendship and throwing jokes, the next they are ambushed and slaughtered. And the emotional impact this leaves is also shown by the characters themselves.

2. Love - I don't like this a lot but it is a strong theme in the anime. The things they do and limits they cross to save each other (Asuna - Kirito) trespasses even the fabric of reality(or virtual reality to be exact).

3. Fantasy World

4. Magic

5. MMO based

6. don't care for any others

7. I literally remember nothing from the second part, with the elves and tree hugging weed lovers and shit, expect the Asuna x tentacle part. Literally the only thing I rememeber.

8. Don't watch this kid anime crap. Watch Hai to Gensou no Grimgar a.k.a Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better in every aspect while the main themes are the same but everything is conveyed waaaaaaaaaaaay more realistically.

@Bishop
Ugh, I wouldn't want my kids seeing Sword Tentacle Porn Art Online.

To be fair, realism and anime usually don't go hand in hand for a reason. :P

But just being curious, have you seen Log Horizon? :3

@SleepingSilence I have and it was interesting indeed, with all the political maneuvers that the main protagonist performed...and the crazy amount of glass re positioning. How it ended again? Moon aliens were behind all of it? XDDD

But that is focused more on the logical aspect, the emotional aspect is felt way stronger in anime if they can convey it properly.
Like Hai to Gensou no Grimgar which is practically a better and superbly more captivating version of what SAO was attempting to reach.

@UnknownScarlet4 Oh! One I can answer!

They are neko, and they are also maids. So they have the appeal of both.

Longer version:

Maids have been a fetish staple long before anime got a hold of it. The uniforms are cute, can be sexy, and often worn by a servant. Most people who appreciate maids either enjoy the outfits or the fact that the maid is a servant. It lends itself to a control fantasy where the observer can place themselves in a controlling roll. "As you wish, master."

In anchient Egypt cat-like behavior was thought to be sexy, but Japan's nekos made the fetish debut again in recent times. While originally strictly sexy characters, neko have started moving in a more "cute" direction. while not easy to control or predict, they are usually stupid, which can also lend itself to a sort of control fantasy by "outsmarting" the neko.

As you can see, these fetishes just barely overlap. This is probably why neko maids aren't as widely appreciated as their vanilla counterparts. For those who do enjoy this combo, it's as simple as liking both cat parts and maid uniforms. Or perhaps they simply like having greater control over their servant.

Based upon some very basic investigative work, I think @Burning Kitty means this, @SleepingSilence. The video has a very similar name format, was published in the past month, has few views and is making rounds throughout a few places on the internet otherwise. Contextually as well, given the roughly two minute length and the fact it is both a pathetic and an unreasonable reaction, this is my assumption.

@The Harbinger of Ferocity Ahh. Yes. That was a thing. Because I was watching my roommate watch cringe compilations of similar people acting in similar ways.

So those people in denial asking "Is there really ANYONE that gets triggered/acts crazy over nothing? Since I've never done research and clearly am already one of those people, where is all this evidence?" kind of people. Where I should just show them the massive piles of it saved and kept forever by the internet. >.<

Saw this clip last night and I gave up on life. again 4:28-4:54

To save you the headache, is a person literally bawling like a fucking baby over their significant other attempting to feed them a single bite of a vegetable and needing to be coddled for merely putting it NEAR them. These are the people I'm almost positive I argue with over the internet. :I

I am fat, I don't like vegetables (unless it is fries, ketchup, or corn) but damn that bitch is pathetic. Someone that pathetic needs to be treated the same as they do horses.

@Burning Kitty My roommate would inevitably correct that potato (and corn) isn't a vegetable but a starch. But I am also overweight. Though currently doing something about it. :3 I'm not a big veggie person either. Potatoes, Peppers, Corn, and Raw Carrots and occasionally a bit of lettuce for texture sake is pretty much my limit. Though I pretty much tolerate almost all of them. But yeah I don't think even as a child, I ever acted like that.

But yeah the type of unbelievable fragile people screaming because of a sign or a piece of broccoli...these people exist in droves. To a point where it doesn't matter the context or what they or you believe, they absolutely should not be validated and taught to grow up as fast as possible.

Also good/appropriate clip. Scrubs was pretty much the best show ever.
