Into the Depths

It took a moment for Finch to realize that the voice he had heard was in his head and not aloud, unused as he was to telepathic communications. Looking around he quickly caught sight of Null behind him, his new ally summoning him to a meeting with who he assumed was the leader of this motley crew of revolutionaries.

"Sounds good to me," he agreed as he followed after her with a casual step that nonetheless easily kept up. Someone with a place like this, he could see the wisdom of what she was saying. Besides, he had to leave a good first impression and being late was unlikely to do that.

As they headed towards their destination, Finch prepared himself for the meeting that he had coming up. It was going to be interesting, that was for sure. "Is there anything I should know about this guy before I meet him?" he asked. It couldn't hurt to inquire so he wasn't taken off guard by something fairly important, though h could understand some things being kept secret because they couldn't really be explained properly. He'd find out sooner or later, as he waited to see if she had anything to tell him about.

Don't be rude. Listen. Null replied after a moment. Don't overload with the questions.

"Okay, seems easy enough," Finch agreed to the voice in his head. He could definitely cut it back a bit, presumably whoever this guy was had experience explaining these sorts of things to people already. There was no use in being needlessly pushy about stuff. That was all he had to say, and he fell quiet as he followed along to their destination

Null led Finch through a series of corridors before coming to two giant doors that reached from floor to ceiling. Nearly two stories tall they were impressive to look at.

A single knock using a rung and Null waved Finch forward as the doors began opening themselves.

"Welcome to my home, Finch. Approach me, and we shall converse on your next course of action," a voice like low rolling thunder sounded from the head of the room, sitting on a raised throne of metal, covered in shadows.

Entering into the throne room, Finch suppressed a low whistle as he looked around. It was big and impressive, some giant sized hall that seemed fit for a larger group than the one he had met before. It was all metal of course, the only thing it was missing was some tapestries or something.

Approaching, he found that there was a figure waiting for him, cast in shadows for the most part and seated upon an ornate metal throne. One could only imagine that it was a pain to sit on something like that, without a pad in addition to the metal and such. He did not feel too bad about not being in that situation, that was for sure.

"Hello," he replied with a nod as he drew close, before bowing once he had come to a stop. "It's an honor to meet you at last, and to be invited into this organization of yours. From what I can tell it's fairly exclusive."

"Yes, I have always been careful of who I would allow inside my inner sanctuary," the man said with an offhand gesture. "So tell me, Finch, how do you like my handiwork?" He asked, his hands thrown wide.

"It's very impressive," Finch admitted as he glanced around the hall. "It must have taken a lot of resources to make this place." He could only guess as such, but even if it didn't he would learn a bit more about the man he was conversing with. There was no harm in trying to ferret out his abilities, should things happen later on and his employment here become a bit more abbreviated than it would have otherwise been.

The man chuckled, a sound like gravel grinding against gravel. "Everything you see here is made by my own hand, shaped and formed by my will," he replied, leaning forward into the light. Finally able to see his features, Finch would be be met with the sight of a man in his mid forties.

Further inspection would net Finch the realization that there was something...off... In the man's eyes. A kind of power, twisted and turned, lurking beneath the surface. A malicious glint, almost, clouding over the spark of intelligence.

"It is proper for you to be impressed. For who could not be impressed by my power, the power of Chrysopoeic!" He raised his hands high during the exclamation, a tilted smile upon his lips, before returning to the shadows with fingers steepled. "Now, then. I want you to prove yourself worthy. Worthy of a place in my ranks. Worthy of the gifts I give. Worthy of the knowledge I hold."

Were it in any other circumstances Finch would have assumed that the man was just speaking with his ego, but when it came to Epics you could never be certain. As such it was reasonable to think that he had indeed made this place all by himself, which was definitely impressive as far as any abilities he had seen before was concerned.

it was at that point he got to see who he was actually speaking to, and it was not what he had expected. Oh he supposed the fellow was attractive enough, but there was more to it than that. He liked to think that he was fairly good at reading people and there was something about this guy that sent a chill through his bones. If it wren't for his confidence he might have begun to think that he was a bit in over his head at this point.

Of course at that point he was left with the conundrum of 'proving himself worthy'. How did you do that for a guy who could do something like this? Somehow he had the feeling that a mere display of his powers would not be sufficient. "Alright. I doubt my powers would be of interest to someone of your ability, so I'll do my best to provide another example, like my abduction of the mayor that presumably drew your attention to me in the first place," he replied in as much calm as he could muster, trying to feel out if there was something in particular the man wanted aside from that.

Chrysopoeic chuckled. "I had something else in mind."

With a wave of his hand, the center of the room literally split apart between them, a platform rising up to fill the gap. Chained to the platform was a woman, perhaps 23 years old, with fiery red hair and terrified hazel eyes. Upon seeing Finch, whom she was facing, a spark of hope crossed her face to be quickly replaced with doubt.

"This is a rather minor Epic who goes by... Temporal. Distasteful. She holds answers that she has refused to give me. I want you to get that information from her."

Wondering what the man meant, Finch was soon informed as a platform rose into the room in a very elaborate display. Spotting the woman on it, he had some idea of where this was going before he was told and his suspicions confirmed. The only interesting thing there was that this was an Epic, and he idly wondered what her power was. Probably something related to time, by the name.

"Alright then," he agreed with a curt nod before stepping forwards and up to the platform. It was too bad that apparently he didn't get to know what his employer was looking for, but presumably Chrysopoeic would know it when he heard it.

Now, this sort of business wasn't really his thing, but Finch would give it the best that he could. Of course he couldn't just start stabbing her, that wouldn't really accomplish anything. "Hey there," he said with a nod as he drew near, coming to a stop near Temporal with a relaxed stance. "So, what's your real name? Or are you one of those Epics who lives the hero act?"

"We are one, unified within these confines as a singular point in the collective. We are Temporal," the woman replied, her eyes narrowing in suspicion before widening in surprise. "You are no friend. Within the hour you will cause the collective harm."

A glance at Chrysopoeic would show him sitting impassively, watching intently.

The woman strained on her chains to no avail. "Escape from bindings has gone against what we saw," she murmured, sounding both agitated and confused.

....Right, definitely one of those 'live the role' types, Finch decided in reaction to the esoteric response. That was really the only way to treat it, though he wondered what she meant when she said collective. Were there others like her, or was she just using flowery language? He stopped himself from asking for the moment, figuring it would be best to get on with what he was supposed to be doing.

He was not expecting her to give him an opening, but he was quick to take advantage of it. "Do the things you see usually end up happening, or is it just a most likely outcome thing?"Whatever answer she gave to him would be useful, both in planning his moves going forward and in learning about her powers. He just hoped she was willing to talk

"They are the stone steps of time itself. You will always step on them, The Collective has merely already stepped on more and less at once than is normal," the woman sighed. "We have already told this. We have explained that we cannot see what does not pertain to the Collective."

Alright then. That was weird and a bit frustrating in the whole 'cryptic' talk, but it was easy enough to parse out given what had been said before. So it seemed like things were st, to some extent, and she couldn't see anything that didn't affect this 'collective' of hers. Which explained why she had been captured, one would assume.

Finch nodded then, pacing slowly to keep in motion. "If that's the case, what does your vision say about this? You know I'm going to bring harm to your collective and that you'll still be here in the future. Do you see yourself telling m what I want to know, or do your visions conveniently not work for that part?"

The woman shook her head furiously. "We see what happens to the Collective. We see that you will cause harm in some form to the Collective. We do not see why or how. The Collective is not allowed to know."

Well then, that was about what he had expected though it was also unfortunate that she would not play along. Finch was prepared to move on though, as she voiced some semblance of defiance or just plain ignorance. After a few moments he produced a glass cylinder from his clothes, using his powers to twist it into the form of a knife. Just for show, at least for the moment.

"Oh I don't know, you seem like a smart girl Temporal. I'm sure you can figure out how I harm the Collective. Sure, I could just stab you with this knife but you aren't the Collective, it just works through you, if I'm understanding what you say." He showed off the knife, letting it catch in the light. "That means that, more likely than not, the harm comes because you're supposed to tell me what I want to know."

He paused then. "I mean, unless you want me to rough you up a bit first so you feel better about yourself. I can do that too."

The woman pulled against her chains, trying to pull away. "We cannot answer because we cannot know! We have said this to you and to him. We have told you all that we know! Let the Collective go!" She sobbed softly, a small red mark appearing along her neck for just a moment before disappearing. "The Collective sees what involves the Collective! No more! We can't make it more clear. The Collective is not strong enough to see past the Shroud the great have impressed upon us."

That definitely inspired a reaction from her, but he was not about to back down and let this simply stand. He had the feeling that his current employer would not approve of that outcome, so Finch would do what he could to make it happen. He paused for a moment before striking, dagger of glass drawing a thin line across her cheek that soon began to shift to red as blood swelled to the surface.

"Well now we have a bit of a conundrum don't we," he remarked as if he had done nothing. "Cause your vision says you'll be alive in the future, but if you don't have the answer he wants there's no point in keeping you around here now is there? He's not just going to keep you around for his amusement. If you can't come up with something then it looks like we're going to have a problem." He had to wonder if he was pushing a bit much, but if he did not want to accept failure it did not seem like he had much choice.

"We have told you we cannot see! Why can you understand?" She whispered.

"Enough. Tell me the location of the Well, the High, and the results.
This charade has gone on long enough, woman,"
Chrysopoeic spoke up.

"We have told you! We cannot see it! It has always been hidden! We can only see the Collective!"

"Very well. You have been rather unhelpful. Finch, remove her from this plane into the next."

Finch was not saddened as that seemed to herald the end of the conversation, his work coming to naught. It didn't seem like it was being held against him, so he supposed that he should be grateful for that. It wasn't his fault that she couldn't see what was needed.

"Got it," he replied with a salute to his employer as he stepped forwards once again. "Last chance," he said to Temporal as he held the blade to her neck. "Your vision is about to be wrong, so I guess you aren't as capable of seeing as you thought you were."

"We are the Collective, and we only know what comes to us. We used to be Jess. Now we are every reference point of Jess. We are the Collective. We cannot answer your questions. We submit to our fate."

"Finish this, Finch. I will not say it again."

Finch wasn't sure what he had been hoping for there, but it was clear that nothing had changed. Apparently her visions were not as absolute as one would have thought, since it was about to be proven incorrect. He wasn't really the kind who liked getting his hands dirty, but at this point there wasn't really anything else to do.

So he did it. "Alright then, that's that." With a swift move he jabbed the knife into her neck, delivering a fatal blow before he pulled it free. A flick tossed what blood had gotten on it away as he stepped back. He turned towards Chrysopoeic, waiting to see what he would say.

"Congratulations, Finch. You've proven yourself worthy. Go relax, retrieve your personal effects. When the others are done we will meet as one and discuss the progress the Alkahest has made," Chrysopoeic announced slowly, locking eyes with Finch as a grin spread across his face.

For a moment Finch supposed that he had been expecting some dramatic occurrence, some last second save for Temporal to swoop in out of nowhere. But it had not happened and now it was over. He had definitely brought harm to the Collective though, that was for sure. More important though was learning that he had passed the test here. That meant his chance for the fame he sought would continue.

"Thank you, I look forward to it," Finch replied with a nod before taking his leave. At the very least this was going to be interesting, that was for sure

Alex

Old Wounds Never Heal

"You're OK! I'm at Dragon's. Where are you? No, you come here. I was so scared!"

I'll be there in a bit. I need to stop by my place real quick. I...
Really need to talk.

Putting her phone away she opened a portal home. Stepping in, she changed real quick and was preparing to leave when she noticed a figure behind her.

"Brother. You're not welcome here," she muttered, eyes narrowing.

In response he drew his sword, moving in a blur. Alex followed the point of the sword, seeing a message etched into her wall.
You're coming with me, like it or not. By force, if I must.

Alex could imagine the smirk behind his mask, and her heart was beating fast. There was no point in talking, that was obvious. Sorry, Rox, I got a problem holding me up, she thought to herself as she drew her sword from her back.

Clangs of metal on metal contact rung through the room moments later as Alex desperately fended off the onslaught of attacks.

But just as she thought she was going to get in the perfect counter, there was a flash of light and suddenly she was surrounded.

Opening a portal beneath her feet, Alex fell onto the streets outside, Rend following after her quickly, more copies appearing with him.

"What's wrong? Afraid to fight me entirely by yourself?" She growled. Her answer was the copies stopping, and their fight continuing.

Alex was evenly matched in skill with the blade, but Rend had some advantage, always moving just perfectly to evade her attacks or slip past her defenses. They were matched on mobility, able to jump around the City at will, except Alex was slightly faster on her feet.

The fight seemed like it would be endless, as the sounds of their clashing blades filled a rundown section of the City.

Lucky

@Banana

Lucky sat up slowly, staggering to her feet and stumbling towards the kitchen. Spying Anomaly still passed out on the couch, she snorted slightly.

In the middle of making eggs, she paused as she heard... Something. It didn't seem like a normal sound, and it was faint as if it was coming from outside.

Finally throwing the eggs off the burner, she pulled her curtain aside and looked out, spying two figures fighting with what appeared to be swords down the street before disappearing out of sight.

With a sigh she walked over to the couch and nudged the woman with her foot.

"Hey, wake up. There's trouble. Hero time. And it's like...3pm or something."

High Venom - Undertown

@floodtalon

Almost an hour of walking later, having traveled a ways across the City before entering into a secret hatch, the puppet led Ace into the secret tunnels of Undertown. All around them were winding tunnels and Freaks of all shapes and mutations. From relatively minor Freaks like Ace to more Monstrous ones like Shatter and Nightmare.

After taking so many turns Ace would need photographic memory to find his way out alone, they entered the inner Hall. Only seen by outsiders a small handful of times, it was a sight to behold. Full of Freaks, the High Venom sat on her throne in shadows.

#And here we are, in the flesh,# she said, her voice seeming to carry several inflections at once. As she spoke the puppet dissolved, going through the process of decay in seconds rather than weeks. #Well, my child, let us speak freely. You are among family here.#

Rising slowly, She walked forward. Flowing black hair and bright green eyes were first apparent, quickly followed by the elegant dress clothes she was wearing. She was conventionally beautiful, that was for certain.

She held her arms wide, a soft smile on her red lips. #Now, child, where shall we begin? #

Anomaly

"Hey, wake up. There's trouble. Hero time. And it's like...3pm or something."

Xoxi rolled off of the couch, landing on the floor with a thud as she heard Lucky speak to her. The amputee looked up at Lucky with a tired expression. "3pm? Jesus Christ, how much did we drink...?" She said as she leaped back onto her feet, looking around at everything while she regained her bearings. A ghostly hand appeared in front of Xoxi, and she was a bit more relieved. She could at least recognize that. One time she drank she could only see it as a ghost and she was scared shitless. It was embarrassing, even though Pudding didn't admit it.

Throwing on her hoodie, Xoxi walked over to the door with her bag, ready to head out... whenever, she guessed. She was still a little hungover, but she could fight through it. It'd only be about thirty minutes at most until she was sobered up.

Ace

Ace followed the meat puppet for a while, about an hour more or less, they eventually came to a secret hatch. As they descended Ace wondered if this was really the High Venom at all, this could easily be a trap to kill him. He banished the thought quickly, something about this felt right to him. When they finally got to the tunnels Ace was amazed by how many freaks there were, some normal looking like him, some not so normal looking. But Ace never grimaced or looked grossed out, he just tipped his hat and smiled to anyone who greeted him.

After many many turns, they finally arrived at the Inner Hall. The High Venom sat above all, surrounded by Freaks of all kinds. Ace took off his hat in respect, this was the person who had been keeping everyone of his people safe after all.

#And here we are, in the flesh,# Her voice sounded like many voices in unison, a way to disguise herself maybe? No, there's no need to do something like that. The meat puppet melted, decaying to nothing in a matter of seconds. Reminded him of those videos of rabbits decaying but sped up. #Well, my child, let us speak freely. You are among family here.#

Ace nodded respectfully, but inside he disagreed with the idea of family. Something about the idea just ticked him off for no particular reason. She walked towards him, an elegant beauty, quite unlike most Freaks. As far as Ace could tell, he saw no physical mutations actually. Quite the mystery.

#Now, child, where shall we begin?# Ace smiled, straight to business. "We begin by talking about how to best protect our people ma'am. It's what I came to this town to do, bringing Justice to the wicked and keeping fine folks safe. Considering you came to me, I'd guess you have an idea of how I can best do just that."

High Venom

Undertown

@floodtalon

The High Venom smiled wide at the response, showing bright perfect teeth. #Yes... Yes I do. As you may have noticed, our City and it's inhabitants have been viscously attacked several times recently,# she explained slowly. #Right now there are are no less than three incidents occurring, three separate battles involving agents of a certain metal boned bastard.#

There was a hint of malice to the last part of the sentence, and a visible ripple spread across her hair.

#What I want to you to do first is to assist a hero who goes by Magus. He's currently holding back two Intruders on the East side of the City. Two girls. You'll know them when you see them. Assuming you survive, I'll send for you to continue your Justice.#

Alex

The fight between Rend and Alex continued, neither side able to gain the upper hand or willing to give in to the other.

Frustrated, Rend switched tactics, using his copies to attack with him.

Alex, however, was used to fighting groups by herself. Whenever an attack looked to be ready to strike her, she switched places with a random Rend and continued her attack. Trying to find the original was a daunting task, and practically impossible.

Lucky

@Banana

Lucky led the way through side alleys, until the duo finally came out about three blocks away from the fight.

"That's Traveler... But who's the guy with all the copies?" She muttered to Anomaly. "We need to help her."

"No one shall interfere. Like a river, there's is no stopping the flow before you. Night descends upon you like pollon across the field," a woman's voice was heard from behind them.

Turning around, they would be met with the smokey figure of Smog, as her smoke flowed towards them and solidified into a five story tall wall behind them.

"You will dance with me, and fall like the lightning struck tree."

Unlucky
A collaboration between @Old Amsterdam and @Banana

"I dunno, probs some villain. She's got th-"

Anomaly was interrupted by the smoky appearance of Smog, taking the form of a five story solid wall of dark clouds. Something triggered in Anomaly, and her psychic hands faded away, a visibly worried expression appearing on Anomaly's face. Well, whatever wasn't covered by the bandanna she wore to obscure her identity. "O-oh no..." Smoke came from fire, and Anomaly didn't know if there was any actual fire around.

Lucky looked around in confusion. "Oh no? Oh no what? Do you know this woman?" She asked slowly.

"Know not, a blank slate waiting to be created and filled," Smog replied simply, walking forward slowly as the smoke started billowing out from her, acting as a smokescreen over the area around the three.

"N-No I don't, but it's the smoke--"

The sudden smokescreen caused Anomaly to fall over into a coughing fit, her body stumbling towards Lucky as best as it could. She was successful in doing that, at least, as she collided with the more built hero. After managing to get a hold of her cough, Anomaly looked back up at Lucky. "The s-smoke reminds me of f-fire... I-I can't w-work around f-" Anomaly started coughing again. This wasn't a good start to this encounter, not at all.

Lucky was, well, lucky her face was covered.

"Rip a good bit of fabric off of me or yourself. It'll help filter the smoke out," she said carefully. "I don't think there's fire, though. Just this smoke. And I can't see...."

At that moment a fist collided with Lucky's face, knocking her back onto her rump.

"Ow! You bitch..." She complained, rubbing her face and rising back to her feet. "Anomaly, we gotta do something or we're-"

A solid blast of smoke knocked her back to the ground. "Fuck!"

"How do I rip som - Oh shit!" Anomaly stepped back as she dodged the punch, Lucky taking the blow. She was down a set of hands, and Lucky was down her eyes. If this kept going on, things would be unfortunate. She had to get the courage worked up. She could do this! She could fight back! As Anomaly focused, a purple hand reappeared to pull her bandanna, but the other stayed behind. Well, it was definitely something.

Anomaly's hand flew towards Lucky, floating over her with a sense of urgency. "Grab it and let it guide you!"

Lucky shook her head. "I can see, but I can't see her. If I can't see her...I don't want to kill her."

Another blast of smoke was sent towards them, at Anomaly this time.

Anomaly stepped to the side quickly, the smoke blast clipping her shoulder and taking her hoodie sleeve off. "That was my favorite hoodie!" Another psychic fist formed as it flew towards where the smoke blasts were coming from, attempting to hit something.

The hand over Lucky shook again, beckoning her to grab it and get up. "You could at least get off the ground!"

The first connected with something solid, but definitely not something human.

Meanwhile Lucky laughed. "Yeah, that would be smart..." She stood up, feeling bruising already growing on her chest. "She packs a hell of a wallop."

Drawing her bow, Lucky hesitated. "Think you can draw her attention?" She whispered.

"Like sun drawn into leaves, energy cycles into energy, life into death and death into life," a voice sounded right behind them. Smoke tendrils wrapped around Anomaly, yanking hard. For just a second the duo could see the mask of Smog before she disappeared again.

"Yea-UHP!" Anomaly felt the tendrils latching around her as she stared down at Lucky, her speech interrupted as she rose into the air slightly. A fist flew towards Smog's mask at crazy speeds, intending to hit it hard as possible. Anomaly, meanwhile, kicked around with the tendrils wrapping around her, trying to bust free from the smoky villain. "They say smoking is bad for you, but I didn't think it was THIS bad!" Humor couldn't dissolve this situation, it seemed.

The fist managed to graze the mask, causing Smog to retaliate by flinging Anomaly back to the ground... Hard.

Lucky fired off an arrow in the next second, her conflicted feelings causing the arrow to merely rip through the edge of Smog's skirt.

"This isn't going well for us," she noted.

"... fuck dude," Anomaly groaned as a purple hand flew back over, pulling the girl back on her feet. Her lip was busted, but she was still standing. The teen pulled both of her hands back as she grew them in size, having two large fists beside her and Lucky. "Think you can incapacitate her without killing her?" Anomaly asked, preparing for something.

"No. I can't see her and I can't concentrate on enough to not kill her by accident. It's a miracle she didn't die just now..." Lucky said in exasperation. "I can't kill her without a reason!"

"Well shit. Looks like we're in a pickle, eh?" Anomaly joked, throwing another hand towards Smog, trying to make any sort of damage more apparent on the villain. It was all she could do, and Lucky couldn't do much with what the situation was for the both of them.

Unfortunately, Anomaly couldn't find Smog again, as the villain wasn't showing her face after that close call.

And then suddenly Lucky lifted off the ground and tossed several feet away with enough force to make her roll, and Anomaly felt the smoke constricting around her left leg.

"You should have blown away like the fall leaves," Smog could be heard, an edge to her otherwise whimsical voice.

"Lucky!" Anomaly's hand reached out, but not grabbing anything. The teen looked down at her leg and noticed the smoky figure wrapping around it, Anomaly attempting to kick it away. Smog spoke to Anomaly, her voice becoming more jagged and serrated. Xoxi quickly responded to the villain, her voice becoming darker. "Leaves don't stick around when they're burned..."

"You know nothing of the Abyss. The swirling darkness just beneath the skin. Let me show you..."

With a sudden motion, the tendril stabbed into Anomaly's leg, moving around just below the skin.

"ARGH! FUCK!" Anomaly screamed as she fell to her knee, the smoke invading the skin of her leg as she began to tear up. It was a new kind of pain, and it was one that Anomaly did NOT want. "What are you doing to me?!"

"Opening the buds that are your eyes, as a flower in spring. But all things come to an -"

"I'm done with you," Lucky growled as an arrow stuck out of Smog's right shoulder. The smoke retracted from Anomaly, but now it was billowing out uncontrollably from the wound on Smog.

"Lucky, RUN!" Anomaly warned, her leg pouring out blood as she tried to walk, but just fell over, her bandanna falling to her chin as well. She couldn't stand, much less move around on that leg, and it certainly didn't help that she had no arms. Anomaly yelled once more "GET OUT OF HERE! SAVE YOURSELF!"

"Not without you," Lucky said as she moved forward slowly, firing another arrow into Smog. This one stuck through her other shoulder, causing more smoke to flow forth.

"You've opened the Abyss."

"Shut up."

"Now you must wither away."

The smoke pouring forth from Smog took on a solid form, not unlike the depictions of ancient demons, and it moved forward as she did. A clawed hand struck out, snapping Lucky's bow into pieces and causing an audible snap as bone broke in her chest.

She rolled backwards from the force, stopping mere inches from Anomaly.

"Don't wor-NO!" Anomaly watched the hit, working up the courage to try and stand up again. Alas, she couldn't, but she was still able to fight on the ground. A psychic fist came rushing towards Smog, the other copying the first but aiming to strike at the back of Smog's legs. As Lucky laid there beside Anomaly, the amputee spoke again. "You need to leave or this will get worse!"

The smoke demon reformed around Smog, blocking the hit to her legs as she was rocked from the hit to her face.

Moving closer, it backhanded Anomaly. Reaching down, the barely breathing Lucky was plucked from the ground.

She screamed moments later as the hand squeezed, before slamming her into the pavement next to Anomaly with enough force to crack the road. Blood pooled slowly around the impact site.

"You must pay."

Lucky was lifted again, and slammed repeatedly into the ground. Blood splattered over Anomaly, who was mere feet away.

"LUCKY!" Anomaly shouted as she watched, blood splattering against her face, hoodie, everywhere on her body except her back. Anomaly watched as Lucky was beaten into the pavement. Anomaly watched as viscera coated the pavement underneath Lucky as Smog slammed her over and over into the ground.

Anomaly watched as Lucky died.

In an instant, the teen was back on her feet, running towards the monster with full intent to take it down. Her psychic hands headed for the sides of the monster as Anomaly ran at it from the front, aiming to shove it to the ground where she could beat the shit out of it. "I'M GONNA RIP YOUR HEART OUT!"

"That's the fire I wanted to see," Smog murmured.

The smoke in the area pulled back into the form, hiding Smog completely, as Anomaly was forcefully thrown backwards through the front glass of a music store.

"Come find me when you're ready, little snake. Come when you have become a dragon, full of fire and anger. Else the Abyss will swallow you whole."

And with that she disappeared, Anomaly having no hope of tracking her through the smoke as it spread across several City blocks.

Anomaly ran out of the window, blood everywhere on her and glass embedded in her skin. Smog was gone, but that didn't stop Anomaly from throwing another punch, hitting only the air as she fell back to her knees, right in front of Lucky's corpse.

"... L-Lucky..." the teen whispered, looking down at the teen with grief in her eyes. This was a girl she opened up to, shared a bottle of vodka with, and actually got to know. Now she was nothing more than a puddle. A puddle of lost dreams at that.

Police cars whirred around the corner as they arrived at the scene, but all that they found was the remains of an archer, and a broken teenager. An ambulance quickly followed suit, grabbing the teen and placing her in the car, as well as Lucky's body. Xoxi ignored the questions of the doctors, simply responding that she needed a minute.

Xoxi was in the back of an ambulance, tears running down her face. She was broken, distraught, and she didn't want to live at that moment...

... but deep down, as ironic as it was, a flaming hatred formed...

... and it wouldn't be extinguished until someone stopped breathing.

Ace

The High Venom smiled widly, nothing wrong with her mouth then. Hell her teeth were probably better than most normal people. #Yes... Yes I do. As you may have noticed, our City and it's inhabitants have been viciously attacked several times recently, right now there are are no less than three incidents occurring, three separate battles involving agents of a certain metal boned bastard.# Her hair rippled, Ace took keen notice of that particular detail. He filed that away for later and nodded grimly, he was quite aware of the attacks recently. #What I want to you to do first is to assist a hero who goes by Magus. He's currently holding back two Intruders on the East side of the City. Two girls. You'll know them when you see them. Assuming you survive, I'll send for you to continue your Justice.#
Ace smiled and tipped his hat, chuckling as his eyes disappeared from her view into the brim of his hat.

"I've died once already m'am. I don't plan on doing so again." He dramatically turned away from her and began walking away, speaking as he got further away. "Obviously I'll need someone to escort me out, but I'll be back soon. Justice works fast when you cut through the bullshit." And with that being said he left the building, waiting outside for someto escort him out of this underground labyrinth that protected the Freaks of Epic City. How disappointing that they needed to hide like moles, that would need to change in the near future.

@floodtalon

As Ace exited the building a man kicked off the wall across from him.

"Follow me," he said, his voice echoing amongst itself. With four arms and a blurry appearance, it left little question that he was a Freak. "I am Shatter. We will walk, and then you will perform your task."

The walk was silent, Shatter unwilling to talk even if Ace tried. The surroundings blurred around them as they walked, and within minutes they were stopping. As the world solidified around them, Shatter spoke.
"Head straight. You can't miss them."

And with that the man disappeared, leaving the only thing of note behind: Ace's bike, in the exact condition he'd left it, even though it was in a new location.

Alex attempted to catch her breath, finally having been freed from the fight. It hadn't been easy, but she'd managed to hold her own. It had been incredibly even of a fight, and she wasn't entirely sure why the fight had stopped and she'd been left alone.
Hey, Rox, I'll be there soon. Trouble found me.

Alex shook her head, walking out of the hospital. She'd seen the ambulances as she had stumbled away from the main streets, her head threatening to split in half. She'd been recognized by officers, and been given the information they had at the time... Which was little.

As the ambulance arrived, she opened the front doors. Inside was a young woman, covered in blood, looking as though she were in shock.

"Hey..." Alex muttered, running a hand through her hair. "Look, uh, I don't know what to say. But after the healers get to you how about you come with me for a bit? I know I'm just a random chick, but being a Hero who may have inadvertently caused your current situation... Well, I want to make sure you're gonna be okay."

Xoxi's voice was softer than normal, but she responded to Alex quickly after being addressed. "O-okay..." Several medics carried the amputee up to a room where she could be healed by a professional in the hospital. A few of the doctors noticed her purely because of her face (while bloodied and bruised) because of why she was in there originally. This was the same hospital. She texted her best friend while she was being taken up there, her ghost hands having to press really hard on her phone's screen.

Swing by the hospital. I need to talk to you soon.

A tall doctor, wearing scrubs and no latex gloves, entered Xoxi's room after a few minutes, flipping through her files as he spoke to her very quickly. "Do you want a minute or two alone before I come back in here?" The teen nodded, and the doctor left.

After a few seconds of her staring at her jacket in silence, Xoxi began to speak to herself. At least, that's what it seemed like.

"... Highs? Any of you there...?" Xoxi asked, almost thinking of herself as an idiot for doing this. She didn't believe in the Highs as these powerful deities, she thought of them as people who had it easier than most. Maybe they'd be willing to prove her wrong, though. "... what did that asshole mean with her stupid allegories...?"

Finch

Getting back to the city was fairly easy. Once he was prepared it was just a simple matter of getting a free teleport the same way that he had arrived in the metal fortress. Getting into the city by himself would be harder since the High probably knew, but if they did care there wasn't much he could do about it. Hopefully they were preoccupied or didn't care at all.

It was also unfortunate that they couldn't just teleport him directly to his hideout, but he could manage it regardless. Finch figured it was best to keep at least some things to himself. Just in case this ended up not working out and he had to make a quick exit.

That just left the matter of getting into the city. Normally it might not have been that big of an issue, but with how things had been going recently he did have problems to worry about. It seemed like he was a magnet for Epic Heroes these days, like that guy Magus or whoever. He didn't want to get grabbed trying to return to the safehouse, that would just be embarrassing. At least getting out would be easier. Rend had given him a transmitter of some kind, so with the press of a button he would get a ride back to the fortress with his stuff.

For now though he had a general plan in mind. Public transportation for a bit and keeping his head down, at least until he reached the downtown area. A bit of clothes shopping for accessories later and he had some sunglasses and a changed hairstyle. That would remove the immediate recognition as he made his way to the safehouse in the run down apartment building further away. Collect his gear from there, get the ride back, and he was hom free.

Easy, right?

Alex knocked lightly on the door before speaking. "They're always there, you know," she said quietly. "And villains hardly ever make sense, let alone the ones like these guys."

Sitting down on the lone chair across from Anomaly, Alex sighed as she looked at the young woman.

"I used to ask stuff like that. 'Why were those men allowed to do that to me? Why was my brother allowed to be killed by a villain? Why do I have to be deaf?' But... We can't change the past. We can't change people. We'll always hit turbulent times, and as I've just recently realized... We need to rise above it. Be heroes in our own right, accept the cards aren't always great."

Alex stood up. "Look, I'm sorry. But I want you to come with me. I'm sure you want revenge, and I could use help anyways. This group... They're bigger than any of us heroes can handle alone. And if you go after her alone... You'll die too. And that... That wouldn't make that girl happy, would it? So, what do you say?"

Xoxi listened patiently to Alex, her hands forming above her as she spoke back, forming in letters of ASL. She knew the alphabet, and a few words, but not anything to really hold a conversation with for an extended period of time. To the best of her ability, Xoxi attempted to speak to Alex and prepare to go with her on this mission, to find out what is truly going on with these villains and their motivations. "Let's go kick ass."

Xoxi climbed out of her bed, mainly by rolling and lifting herself up with her hands, but as she landed back on the ground the teen hunched over in pain. "FUCK THAT'S STILL SORE!" Her leg was healed already by that doctor on the way here, and the glass was also removed, but regardless of all of that, she was still feeling some pain from it all. She'd be fine, though. It wasn't the first time she'd have walked on an injured leg. "I-I can manage. Let's get the hell out of here."

As the teen left, the doctor noticed that Xoxi left a good amount of dollars on her bed, probably as a way to pay. It was all payed off, surprisingly, so the doctor just let Xoxi go. He could tell she had to go somewhere and do something. Something important. She left so quickly in a hurry that she left her hoodie there, too. Huh.

Alex, where are you? HE is outside and there's a fight and we got locked in... Need my best friend...
I'll be there ASAP. Got attacked, they've retreated for now. Two young Epics got caught in it. Trying to get the survivor to come with me.

Alex raised an eyebrow at the hand signals, frowning slightly as the teen fell. She assumed she was on board, at any rate. "You won't need to walk much, at least. Portals," she said with a smile. "And, uh, I don't know sign language. Lip read."

Unbeknownst to Anomaly, Alex had paid every fee for the girl in full before coming to the room, and she'd already ordered replacement clothes.

Once they'd exited the front doors, Alex opened a portal straight into Dragon's living room.

"Sorry I'm late. Hope you don't mind I brought company," Alex said with tears filling her eyes as her eyes fell upon her best friend. "The High above us, there's so much we need to talk about." Tears were flowing freely now.

"Get on the fucking ground!" the masked man wearing a horse mask yelled at the terrified bank customers. Around the horse mask five more masked goons were herding the people into the corners of the bank away from the lobby. "Get those people out of sight," Horse masked ordered as he went over to the vault door. Taking out a walkie-talkie he radioed to the other member of the group. "First floor secured, moving on the vault how are things going on your end?"

"Security system is down along with the guards. Going to wipe the system before heading to the vault." High voltage said before he cut his cut his communication. Focused back onto the systems the electric merc charge his power and fired it into the main system frying it. Leaving the security room, he walked through the hallway passed the down armed security team as he walked to the lift. The mercenary though to the course of events that led him to be in the bank.

A week ago, he received a call from horse masked with a proposition about robbing a bank in epic city. The robber explains to him that in Epic City there is a series of banks that a several CEO's from various corporation using the bank as a tax shelter. Inside the vault there is millions in cash and gold just waiting to be stolen. He offered a cut of the loot in the bank as well as a hundred thousand dollars upfront for the job. Accepting the job, he arrived at epic city a week before the heist went down. Spending that week in an abandon warehouse going over the notes and plans of the heist. Once high voltage was prepared the heist plan was put into action. Armed with a signal jammer he infiltrated the security center posing as a janitor fried the system and the guards. Meanwhile the rest of the robber’s storm into the lobby of the bank and start to break the vault open. Arriving at the lobby High voltage strode by the terrified hostages to the vault.

"Get that drill set up," the horse masked man said to the chicken masked thief. "Im making sure the drill doesn't break on us," as he finished setting up the drill. The robbers activated the drill as high voltage arrived. "What is the status on the vault?" the mercenary asks eyeing the drill. "It will only take a few minutes for drill to open the vault." the chicken masked thief responded. He leans back on a nearby pillar to wait for the drill to finished its works while the rest of the robbers watch for anyone intervening.

Long time no see...

Prom night came.

Just like Melissa had probably imagined, they both turned a lot of heads that night. Despite it being Alto's first time doing anything like that, he felt fine being the center of attention. After that, they'd stepped aside and she told him what she'd wanted to say. He'd responded with his true feelings and that was that. It seemed to have gone over well, only now it'd been over a week and neither of them had said anything to the other.

Now more than ever, he felt how awkward human interaction could get.

He picked up his phone and typed out a message.

Hey, want to watch Blade Runner 2049? It's coming out soon and I don't want to watch it alone...
Alto

He debated putting an 'emoji' on the end but he suddenly felt something bad would happen if he did. After a few agonizing moments a reply followed.

Sure, when do you want to meet up?
Melissa

With that the tension dissipated. At least he'd have a chance to patch things up. They sorted out the times, and he set his alarm for tomorrow.

He didn't really take the bus too often. Most of the places he needed to go were reachable on foot, and in an emergency he moved a lot faster using his Vice Claw. It was too far to walk to the theater, using the Vice Claw just to get there would attract too much attention and asking Jerry to take him there just... felt like a bad move? It felt like he would get the wrong idea.

The bus wasn't completely full. There were a lot of seats left but there were no lone double-seats left. There was still a space next to Alto, however. The bus arrived at the next stop. There were still quite a few stops left, but it would be a straight ride to the theater. He'd be on time, with a little to spare at this rate.

He looked up just as Melissa boarded the bus.

She was wearing rather plain clothes compared to the first time they'd seen a movie together. Just a hoodie and jeans, still much more fashionable than anything Alto usually wore. Her hair was in a braid, and she wore her glasses instead of contacts like on prom night.

They made eye contact and she froze. The tension was increasing again. She was boarding a bus so she had to move. They'd clearly made eye contact so she had to sit next to him.

The bus continued its journey as they continued their silence. Some would say it seemed to be intentional but that wasn't really the case. Alto didn't know what to say, and Melissa didn't have much she could say. Alto was the one to break the silence.

"Sorry." He said, finally.

"Uhhh... what?" Melissa said, confused. "No, it's fine.. I should've seen it coming anyway."

"I gave you a lot of grief, didn't I?" Alto said. "At least let me apologize for it."

He said it in a lighthearted way to soothe her a little. The last thing she needed to do was beat herself up for something that probably should've happened the way it did anyway.

"You know, you're the only person close to my age I actually 'know'." He said, taking further advantage of the lightened mood. "Wait, that makes me sound suuuper boring, doesn't it?"

Melissa let out a giggle, and she also finally let her hood down. He hadn't accepted her feelings but she seemed to be at peace with it now. Despite the fact that he had asked her to watch a movie pretty much just for this reason he did also come to enjoy a movie as well.

Then suddenly, he felt sensation in his left arm and his phone buzzed. His left arm was usually devoid of feeling so it felt like an electric shock.

Actually, he had been expecting something like this for a long time. The High Clairvoyant didn't handle all communications, save for the High Prescient each of them had proven to have ways of directly contacting people to do their bidding. Alto had been waiting the turn and it seemed to have come, from the High Electric this time.

Supposedly the High were responsible for most, if not all Epic powers. One thing which had always puzzled him and others was to what category the Vice Claw belonged. It had the power of pyro-kinesis, a by-product of heat energy manipulation which was the domain of the High Electric. However, it permanently changed his arm by way of a mutation, and his arm was the only thing which displayed powers except for the rest of his body's immunity to his own flames.

The High Venom had never reached out to him, but neither, to his knowledge, had any of the others until now.

"You got the call?" Melissa said, concern visible on her face.

Normal citizens didn't have that many opportunities to see something like this happen. Most Epics didn't either, but still.

"Yup..." Alto sighed. He stood up and pressed the stop button. "This is my stop..."

"Just be careful, alright?" Melissa said.

He nodded and hopped off the bus.

As the claws raced towards him, a silver chain would come flying in from behind Magus wrapping around him. It wasn't a strong chain, nor was it controlled in some way.

Next, a gigantic flaming claw appeared, racing forward, and catching Dian Cecht's.

"You're back-up's here," A voice called from behind. "The High Electric said you might need the help."

Charlotte

Charlotte could hear the chaos. There was a lot of it, unusually, dangerously so, even for Epic City. Where the High? At this point, they should be stepping in to put an end to the racket, but so far, nothing. With Cheshire senses she'd been able to pick up bits and pieces of the going-on's around her in great detail.

It felt like a war was erupting.

The only good news so far was, Traveler was back. "So, you are Alex," she greeted the woman. She'd entered through a portal straight into Dragon's living room - her first reaction was, much to her embarrassment, to run to the kitchen and grab a knife, but seeing the look on Spectrum's face made it clear that she was a friend. A dear one, from everything she'd heard.

She only knew the woman as Traveler, the from her Epic database, and not as Alex, the friend of her current guardian, Roxana Constantinides. Charlotte hadn't had the time, and she had been missing - not anymore, though.

"My name is Charlotte, and," she glanced at Roxana with a slight smile, "I've a feeling you've been missed."

Ace

Ace followed Shatter out of the tunnels, briefly attempting to start up a conversation with him and promptly being ignored. Everything got blurry as they exited the city, probably his power, and they were out. Shatter told Ace to go straight to find his objective. Finally he disappeared, leaving behind Ace's bike in the same condition he had left it in. Nice.

"Welp, time to hit the dusty ol trail." Ace hopped onto his bike, revving it up and feeling the vibration of the engine as it purred to life. Seconds later he was off, heading straight for his next fight.

Anomaly

"Shit. Sorry." Xoxi felt the need to apologize, even though it was just a minute thing.

The teen stepped through the portal behind Alex, awkwardly standing behind the hero like she wasn't there. Anomaly felt rude for barging in, but then again, she was invited to wherever this was. A living room? It was clearly someone who had a power problem, but Anomaly couldn't figure out who. Maybe Dragon? Looked like him in the very few pictures he had up. Eh, she'd ask later. Now didn't seem like a good time, what with Alex tearing up.

A ghost hand appeared behind Anomaly as she waved to the other girls in the room. "H-hello..." she muttered, uncharacteristically for her bombastic personality. She had to cheer up, but right now, she felt like it'd be easier to just be calm and not start something disruptive. There was a time and a place for acting like that, and now wasn't that time. "I-I'm Xoxi." Anomaly didn't react to her automatically saying her name and not her persona. What else was a persona but a cover for your name, after all?

Spectrum disentangled herself from Dragon and practically tackled Alex, her skin a marbled mess of blue and red. "You disappeared and I was so worried and I needed to talk to you and you weren't there and..." She rambled on, holding tightly onto her friend as if letting go would let her disappear again.

It fell to Dragon to make the introductions, then. He walked over to Xoxi, only a stray glance towards the window hinting at the worry and fear beneath his calm exterior. Holding out a hand, he paused slightly when he noticed her disability. "Hi, I'm Dragon Heart. The glowing woman is Spectrum, my girlfriend, and the little girl with the creepy cat is Charlotte, our..." He looked back at her, mouthing the word "sidekick", then "ward". The third word he thought of didn't make it to his lips. "Our charge."

A flaming pillar appeared in the sky for the second time today, and it took visible effort for Dragon not to investigate it. "Where'd Alex find you?" He asked Xoxi, offering, "Coffee, hot chocolate, tea?" Spectrum, at the sound of hot chocolate, let go of Alex. Mostly. She still had an arm around the other woman's shoulder, and she waved over Charlotte for a proper introduction.

"I told you about the whole thing with Blacklight, didn't I?" She asked, putting a hand on Charlotte's shoulder. "Well, this is Charlotte. She makes things move." Lowering her voice and leaning a little closer, Spectrum added, "That freaky cat over there is hers. It talks like an Alice in Wonderland book."

@Old Amsterdam@TheHangedMan

Dian hissed in pain as the thinly stretched skin on her claws met the Vice Claw. She pulled back, retracting them until she could suck on them like any other child with a burn. "That hurt, asshole!" She shouted. Her other hand split down the middle, pinning down Magus and sweeping him to the side. When he was against what remained of her palm, it took hardly any concentration to shut off his eyes while she concentrated on the teen with the flaming arm.

Mimic gasped somewhere off to the side. "Ooh. That's pretty." With almost oblivious unconcern, she walked right up to Vice, putting more hip movement into walking that was strictly necessary. "I don't think you're on the list either, and that's really, really, cool." She drawled the last words until they were practically dropping with arousal. "Dian, you can have Gandalf."

Her exposed skin began to darken, reaching a blue-black shade of frostbite as she leaned close to Vice. "I want this one." Mimic ran her fingers along the boy's jawline, the slight difference in their heights making it easy for her to draw his eyes down to her chest. "Yes, you. I want you and your beautiful arm." Her face grimaced with pain as she touched Vice's shoulder, the flames of the claw licking her hand.

"You're disgusting," Dian protested, sounding for all the world like a child who'd seen her sister making out. Retracting her fingers until they were scalpel small and scalpel sharp, she reverted to her normal schoolgirl appearance. "Hey, Mister," she said, walking towards the blinded Magus, "do you wanna play with me? I like playing Doctor. You be the patient!" She grabbed his hand in one of hers, cutting the skin shallowly in four neat lines. "Want anaesthetic?"

OOC: Mimic really is disgusting

Magus's staff had been in mid swing when a silver chain flew in from behind and tangled around him, messing up his swing so that he was unable to whack the girl like he'd intended to. Luckily, Vice had come in at the same moment and knocked his assailant away from him. Unfortunately, that didn't last long as the girl quickly split her hand, pinned Magus down, and somehow blinded him. After that, he was given a short reprieve, but being unable to see, this wasn't much of a benefit to him.

Magus listened to the older girl going ga-ga over Vice in a way that made him cringe even without being able to see what she was doing, and then the other one, apparently called Dian, was on him again, this time taking his hand and cutting into it in four lines. Magus grimaced in pain as he planted his staff on the ground and focused. A moment later, a column of earth shot up in front of him where he suspected Dian was by the sound of her voice. If his estimation was accurate, the column of earth would sen her flying. Even if he was slightly off, the effort should at least be enough to force her to let go of him as the column of earth was definitely partly between his hand and her. "Who are you, and what are you doing here?" he asked once more as his column collapsed back into the ground just as suddenly as it had sprouted up. He backpedaled a few steps as he listened for any signs of what was going on, hoping his sight would return soon.
