So I've been thinking about this for a while and now seems like a good time to say that I'd be interested in doing some arena RPs for fun, especially if this place is gonna be all fixed up and shiny.

We need to all agree on the new painting scheme.

Tell me about it. I spent my last 15 minutes reading the, ah, conversation you and Dynamo Frokane had. Still, it seems to have ended well.

I've talked with Dynamo long enough to know how to engage him when he decides to not just meme people into the ground. Spoiler: it's not as hard as people think it is.

And ive talked to Gowi long enough, to know that underneath all that smug condescending flippancy there is a normal adult man there, it just takes a few straight talking posts to bring him out.

Should definitely kick out that Rilla character. He's admittedly fairly lazy. But he is around, no one ever really brings him up. His discord calls prove that. Could he be around more, yes. Could someone actually PM him? Seems to have worked out last time when he was *gone* and still had to handle stuff between two people.

But whatever y'all decide to do, is cool with me.

As far as the point system, we've said before it needed to be redone or something, several times, but no one suggested anything different really. There has been no response discussion on it.

The only reason I'm a moderator is for some reason people listened to me, and I was able to keep the arena stuff from spilling out. Other mods, in some capacity, were fine with just banning the lot. Or something to that effect. So I was put in charge to keep things... I don't know... Clean.

Rilla, being lazy and being proud about it is a good representation of what the arena is lacking, proper leadership. Trust me I’m not bashing you for it, shit you may have just lost interest. I’m unsure if the battle ground has multiple moderators or maybe souls who act like they have the big stick. If whatever is cool with you...why not just step down since you don’t really care. Shit that’s what I would do. See if the ppl talking can do a better job than you, if they can’t than laugh. Tbh your point system just needs to be reset, it can be the same system, just someone needs to actually keep up with it.

Arena Events would be nice too. One where it requires you to have x amount of wins to participate. Just small home brews could really bring this place back. Inkarnate made a solid point about it needing more story elements. Maybe a theme? The whole goal of the arena should be the number one fighter, maybe the area is a thing that spans across the multiverse forcing warriors of legend and time to meet through unconventional means all for a greater purpose. Little shit goes along way tbh.

And maybe you stepping down is not the wrote word, but adding someone to the team who helps direct may be useful. Removing you may be a issue since you “keep the place clean”. You apparently prevent ignorance, so I can assume you have good judgment, which is useful to making this place better.

Events, yes. More exclusivity and elitism (or the appearance thereof), definitely not. We need people to want to be here, telling them they're not good enough achieves the opposite of that. As has been discussed, people putting winning ahead of enjoyment make the arena a mor toxic, less pleasant place, and the rps themselves less fun. If a tournament were to take place here, players must have the mindset that winning is not the most important thing, which having a win barrier does not encourage.

Anyway, guys, I feel like whatever we decide upon, it has to enacted soon. Neglect seems to have been at least part of the cause of the problem, so agency is the solution.

Actually, a 'group arena RP' might be a good idea.

Here's a wild idea: make a story-driven tournament RP that isn't too worked up over stats and banal arguments.

I say this in part nostalgia and in part of knowing what works in my nearly two decades of role-playing. Tournament RP's are the lifeblood of most combat-oriented sections and sometimes you don't even need to build it up to a tournament arc. Sometimes just starting with the tournament is fine. The tricky part is figuring out the setting, determining the writing expectations/requirements, and loosely (or specifically) describe the technological level and magical options of said setting. If it's a multidimensional tournament you can skip the last step. Getting worked up about a tournament RP being a product for a prize, bragging rights, or another docket on the leaderboards is something people should avoid.

My laziness is notoriously overstated most of the time to the point that it's a running joke at most points. When I'm active, I'm active.

Adding another mod is t really my call.

What is needed is.nlt another official placement, but to come together. I can handle the mod side. So long as yall don't overstep too many bounds and cause me to bullshit excuses. The arena worked just fine without a mod.

Y'all want a tournament, do one. It doesn't have to be officially backed by a mod. Who knows. I may even participate. Y'all just need to be active. Do something. Much like with TZDL or any tournament, whoever starts it can do whatever they want, establish any rules, anything. I never go against them. That's their deal.

When did this happen? There was 3 tournaments and one hosted by Forkane from 2017 to now and I don't ever recall that being an issue.

New painting scheme...well...how about borrowing from fortnite? They are very popular so have some ideas that could help.

So we could have seasons that change every season in some way to develop lore and have speculation by those not in the arena, causing them to want to get involved and see what's going on. We could have maps that we often fight in (I know we have that but who looks at our maps now?) and have them change mysteriously in fun ways to keep combatants on their toes. Release special cosmetic items for winning tournaments, like your character can wear a cape we talked about in lore. Maybe they don't offer any real advantages besides lore and showing off or maybe they can do something cool, but of course these items would be limited from certain things such as tournaments if they are too OP unless we do have a tournament where all bets are off.

Focus on coolness over micromanaging details could work in the favor of this concept as newcomers tend to be leaning more towards. So it would be more casual, yes, but more fun for most. Those who favor strict attention to detail can still agree on such battles but the main focus would be on the fun stuff getting lots more people involved.

Main plot doesn't need to be fleshed out immediately but instead revealed over time. Rifts open up from different settings. Oddball assortment of characters pop into same world and decided on a tournament arc to get to know each other and settle differences. yay! So people don't need to feel the need to keep their character winning and surviving at all cost, the afterlife world also connects to a rift so we can come back with some plot whatever reasons why it doesn't work sometimes to add suspense but most common stuff it works to explain why heroes would slay each other in tournaments.

Also events that could be PvE, not just PvP, could be more common. Say we go on a quest for some secret treasure and everyone who participated in it gets a special coin they found in a chest. Each season participation can give you a badge you can wear as well.

A story driven tournament without a predetermined victor would not only be fun from my perspective but inviting to the rest of the guild as well.

We label the tournament as the start of a change in the arena, newbie friendly, none of the matches are ranked, someone establishes lore and a character sheet for the tourney, and promote it as something educational than the usual winner get's instant gratification, bragging rights, and hate from all those they defeated.

From there, you randomize the entrants against one another and they fight until they naturally come to a disagreement and need a judge. The judge then determines the outcome, explains why, and shares what could have been done better. The players should be reminded that winning doesn't mean anything in this tournament, even if you come out on top, you're still going to be offered advice.

The thing that will probably never change is the participant disagreeing with the judge's ruling. That's where the toxicity comes from if any of us were confused or blinded to it.
