Year 2021 of the New Calendar.

The world is finally living an era of relative peace and stability, after a long period of chaos. Society is able to prosper where none could thanks to the introduction of amazing wonders of modern technology that allow life to flourish where none could stand for the longest time.

These achievements were made possible after the creation of the seventy-two academies to educate and train the next generations of the defenders of Earth that fight the ever-present threat of destruction.

Your role as one of the members of one such academies is is prepare yourself for the unavoidable time when you’ll have to scramble into battle and fight, putting your life and limb at risk, to protect those in need.

Something About The Past

Everything changed when humanity learned for the first time that we aren’t alone in the vastness of the cosmos. Whatever it was that was out there, it had only one wish:

“To destroy everything, no matter the costs.”

Or at least, that’s what humanity thought of the invader's wants. After all, all attempts of establishing communications with them ended in tragedy. Even gathering the most basic information is a Herculean effort when their minds are the very definition of the word alien -- perhaps, even strange enough to be called eldritch.

No one knows for sure where the invaders came from; only that, one day, a long, long time ago, they arrived in our world as unexpected passengers of a massive meteor. Catching everyone blindsided, this great calamity would be known as the Second Genesis. It almost led to the extinction of all life in our world, forcing humanity to a critically low point and leading the society that existed before alien arrival to collapse.

It would take an untold amount of time for humanity to learn of ways to fight back against the invaders; ironically, their greatest salvation came from the very heavens the invaders originated from. Radiation left over from Second Genesis has mutated roughly 80% of humanity by now. Although no severe drawbacks have been observed, they have resulted in increased stamina, reflex, and strength to the human body; as well as granting a limited depth of psychic ability. Using this newly found source of power, humanity has begun to push back against the wave of destruction. It took even more time for the population to stabilize and, finally, for a new world to arise from the ashes of the former one. The sacrifices of many have led us to the current era.

But despite humanity’s best efforts, the invaders were never defeated completely. And it looks like they never will be.

And Something About Now

Even though the threat can’t seem to be eradicated, life still goes on.

Today, humanity is able to inhabit most of the territory it owned at its peak before Second Genesis. This was in part to evidence that suggested that this wasn’t the first time our world had been visited by these invaders. Indeed, the meteor that triggered the K-T mass extinction event could very well have been carrying the same beings that plague the world today. How and why the invaders took so long to rise again is a question that science has yet to answer. Nevertheless, such questions have no bearing on the lives of the common people, who do their best to help humanity prosper and find their own happiness in life.

The center of modern humanity's survival are the academies built all around the world to train the next generations to fight the danger of the invaders. Using their enhanced physical capability and psychic nature, these eager youth have been thusly dubbed, Psychers. Each and every one of their academies boasts the best in terms of technology and science to help push back the threat of annihilation. This story will follow the exploits of the students of one such academy. The 2nd Tactical Arts Academy: Yamato, built just right outside of the limits of the reconstructed city of Neo Kyoto. It is the newfound the capital of Japan after Tokyo was turned into an inhospitable mess of alien activity.

Characters

The playable characters will all be trainees at the Academy, which divides its students in three rough groups, or classes, based on each of their combat role specialization. They are:

• Strikers: Close-quarters combat specialists who use blades and other physical weapons. Uses their psychic power to increase their attack power and endurance.

• Gunners: Long-range engagement specialists who uses firearms. Uses their psychic power to increase their movement speed and dexterity.

• Linkers: Support units whose abilities and skills doesn’t match the definition of the other classes. Often use drones to assist their teammates in combat. Uses their psychic power to "link" with their teammates and direct them. They have the largest field of psychic range.

A battle squad is generally assembled with one of each different type of operative, with the Striker and Gunner taking down the enemies in direct combat and their Linker offering support either from a command center, or another safe position.

Each character has access to a certain number of abilities derived from their enhanced physical prowess. Among the general abilities that every agent is meant to have are a passive force field, or aura, that protects you from harm.

Furthermore, each character also has one unique ability, meant to compliment their playstyle, named Psychic Drive with initial access to up to three different techniques. More may be learned through the course of the RP if certain circumstances that allow so are met.

Rules

No Godmodding, Power Gaming, Metagaming, Mary Sues/Gary Stus, and or similar types of characters/behavior.

Each player is allowed one character for the time being. This number may be raised in the future, however, no one can have two characters be of the same class (Striker, Gunner, or Linker).

No player will be awarded special roles (teachers, antagonists, etc.) at the beginning. If you have any good ideas and prove yourself to be capable of doing taking such a responsibility, we may change our mind… later.

There will be no specific posting order. However, wait at least two turns before posting again to let others have fun as well.

Discussion in the OOC is nice, but if there is prolonged heated argument, take it in the PMs. Otherwise, the GMs will solve the problem. Criticism is ok but, if you want to come here to argue, please refrain from doing so. This will result in a quick and swift ban.

RPers who "sporadically" lose interest or leave without saying anything are discouraged. I strongly suggest you either inform me or the Co-GMs of your leave of absence. If it’s an emergency, then at least tell us it is.

Please post your Character Sheets onto the OOC for evaluation. After being accepted, you may then post them onto the Character Tab.

Follow the Guild's rules for content/language. Take any improper material to PMs, please.

Keep your IC posts at around a length of one or two paragraphs for each character in your post. Under certain circumstances this number might fluctuate up or down, but try to keep with it as much as possible.

We take suggestions from the players into consideration with a great deal of importance. However, we are the final arbiters of any issue. Do not question our final verdict and don't test our patience.

If you have any problems, questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to let the GMs know.

Have fun.

Character Sheet Template

• Name: Self-Explanatory
• Age: For Trainees, it's between 15 and 19 years old
• Gender: Male or female. (Please, don't answer anything other this)
• Class: Gunner, Striker, or Linker
• Nationality: Pick any you wish. For the sake of simplicity, consider that most of the current nations still exist in some shape or form after the Collapse.
• Appearance: Anime/cartoon images and or text descriptions only, please. If it's not evident in an image you may be using, including at least the character's height in a separate field is recommended.
• Bio: A brief description of your character's backstory and personality. In other words, who they are as a person and why they are so. At least two paragraphs in length are more or less enough, just try to not go too overboard on this one, ok?
• Armament: Your weapon(s) of choice. If your character doesn't use any, include a description of their combat style or anything else similar. An armament may have a few special characteristics or abilities, as long as they are reasonable. There are two categories of damage that any armament can deal: Energy (lasers, beam swords, etc.) and Physical (bullets, arrows, vibroblades, etc.).
• Psychic Drive: Your character's unique ability, try to not have it be too overpowered.
• Extra: Anything else not mentioned above. (Bits of trivia, theme songs, likes, dislikes, fears, etc.) Optional, you can ignore this if you have nothing else to add.
• Sample Post: Write a short post (around 2 paragraphs) describing an important moment of your character's life, a bit of their daily life, etc. This will be the most important part of your CS, so try to make your writing skills and interest in the story as evident as possible to impress us, ok?

Hey. :3 Interested. ._.

What degree of Tech. are we talking about? Do you accept Mechanized body parts (High Tech) and/or Androids (Not fully, since need Psychic potential). When you say they use their psychic powers to enhance their Attack Power, how so do you mean?

Well well.

Hmm, decently advanced tech, not to the point of flying cars and such but energy weapons, and cybernetics are possible. Maybe even androids, but they would be rare, probably only as secret projects of the government and such.

Well, as for powers, that depends mostly on the character in question. It varies from person to person, really so it's hard to give an explanation that encompasses all.

While my reply from yesterday still stands, I guess that I understand what you are asking better now. The abilities listed in the classes are passive bonuses that they (generally) have while their aura is still active (i.e.: while they still have reserves of psychic power to use).

For example, a Striker typically trains to deploy their aura in a way that makes them even stronger and tougher than it's expected of other agents of their same level of skill. In other words, they are extra tankier when compared with a gunner that's around the same rank.

And, on top of that, their Psychic Drive abilities (which are mostly unique) go even further beyond to reinforce whatever tactic they prefer using in combat.

I hope this made my previous reply a little easier to understand.

@Milim@Saltwater Thief@floodtalon@SimpleWriter

Thanks for the interest so far. I think that if we get a couple more interested players we can move up to the OOC by the end of this week at most.

In case you need an example for how to fill the CS, here's the one I'll likely be using for this RP for you to use as a rough basis when thinking about power levels and such:

Name
Mavis Limit

Age
17 years old

Gender
Female

Class
Striker

Nationality
American

Appearance

Height
164 cm

Weight
[Redacted]

Bio
"A girl that hides a dangerously smart side behind a happy go lucky facade."

Mavis was born in a frontier area, where reconstruction after the disaster was just beginning. From the earliest age she saw what's to be under the threat of constant destruction. Even so, she carried on through her early childhood and teenage years without any big traumas or events that made her that very distinct from all you other average girls.

As a result from that she developed a pretty nice personality and is generally a good person to hang around even though her amicable ways do hide a layer or two of complexity under them. Especially, when it comes to improvising on the battlefield and other weird hijinks. After all, you don't need to have suffered from the moment of your birth in order to develop a complex personality, do you?

Armament
Altair, a multipurpose shield made of composite materials capable of withstanding almost any form of damage. It's an armament that's easy to use, but hard to master. However, in the hands of a trained fighter, it offers an unparalleled degree of both offense and defense. Not only can it protect its wielder, but also redirect part of the kinetic energy of any attack that hits it right back at the source. The shield can also be used offensively, functioning in a manner similar to any other melee weapon, like vibroblades.

Psychic Drive
Mavis' Psychic Drive, which she named Repulse, is the ability to project or expand her aura creating a wide range force field around herself. She can also use it to instantaneously repel attacks and push creatures and objects away from herself, or as a sustained shield at the cost of burning through her reserves of power quite fast. Using Altair to amplify her output can reduce the cost of this ability. In fact she's able to channel this power through her shield even if she isn't holding it. It's worth noting that Mavis also can "reverse the flow" of Repulse to push herself (or her shield) away from things which is a tricky she's fond of using in creative ways.

Extra
• She has a cat named Enterprise (Enty).

• Her parents moved to Japan for work related reasons, mostly thanks to her mother's work as a medical researcher bringing her to the Academy.

• She has a nearly-unhealthy liking of sour-sweet candies and junk food.

• Loves heroic stories, especially superhero stories.

Plus Ultra!

I could be interested in this. But I'm curious as to what class everyone is considering before I commit to an idea or two.

At any rate, I suppose I might settle on an idea starting tomorrow.

@Saltwater Thief Alright. Since my post I've been deciding between a striker and a gunner. May yet go with both if the character limit rises.

Edit: Didn't want to make a whole new post, but I did want to stop by and say I've decided on a striker. I'll probably have something tomorrow.

Well, been some time since I was around RPG, but this certainly caught my attention. I think I may have a support character in mind.

Or I should say, a Linker character~

• Name: Tian-Gui Jian
• Age: 18
• Gender: Male
• Class: Striker
• Nationality: Chinese
• Appearance: Tian-Gui stands at an impressive 6’3, the broadness of his shoulders augmented by his muscular build. He sports a light tan that serves to make his turquoise eyes stand out, and the Chinese youth prefers to keep his hair short, never longer than three inches in length. Though his angular face makes him appear more like the member of a boy band or whatever, his hands are heavily callused, and his body is filled with small scars from accidents on the fields.

• Bio: Born in the technological metropolis that was Shanhu, China, Tian-Gui probably would have lived a normal life if his single mother hadn’t died in a fire at her workplace when he was two years old. Thankfully, though emergency services weren’t competent enough to save her life, they were capable enough to locate his grandparents, who were more than happy to take in their late daughter’s son and raise him with the same affection she would have raised him with. And, just like that, Tian-Gui found himself relocated to the Japanese countryside, living with expat pensioners who had a cute little farm they toiled on to feed themselves.

He was raised wanting for nothing, and he was too young to remember his mother to begin with. His father was nothing more than a phantom in his genetics as well. His warmest memories were folding dumplings with his grandma and learning how to prune persimmon trees with his grandpa. He enjoyed hearing stories about his mother in her youth, a brash child that wasn’t anywhere near as obedient and reliable as he was, and being one of the young people in a community filled with the elderly, Tian-Gui quickly began to pick up odd jobs in every which direction. One Monday, Sawamura might need help with shingling on his roof. Another Thursday, and Cho’d want him to help with relocating the jars of kimchi. Weekends were spent helping one neighbor or the next with their flea market or farmer’s market stalls, chatting with newcomers and regulars alike. And homeschooled as he was, Tian-Gui spent the rest of his free time studying, becoming the helpful and refreshing, if not slightly bland, human being he is now.

Tian-Gui probably would have lived a normal life if he hadn’t caught the eyes of a recruiter during the National Center Test in Neo Kyoto. Thankfully, though the offer was a surprise when it landed on his doorstep, it also wasn’t an unwelcome surprise either. He hadn’t managed to score a spot in the university of his choice, after all, and his grandparents did have some particularly inspiring anecdotes about how his ancestors played some role or the other during the Second Genesis, so, well…

There he is now, one of the oldest newbies to be admitted to 2nd Tactical Arts Academy.

• Armament: Final Red is an armored suit that unravels from a red amulet worn by the wielder, transforming Tian-Gui into an imposing 7’3 behemoth clad in scarlet and gold plates, with a white mane stretching out from the back and pauldrons fashioned in the likeness of lions. The entire armor set is designed to be highly resistant to all forms of damage, but is especially resistant towards energy attacks, capable of absorbing them, storing them up within the suit, and then unleashing them as jets of flame. Final Red also works as a bludgeoning weapon in general, the additional mass added to a body making a Striker’s punches and kicks even more destructive than normal.

• Psychic Drive: Tian-Gui is able to create temporary psychic constructions made of a material he calls ‘Flamestone’, largely due to the fact that it sounds cool. Golden in hue and crystalline in property, he can use this to augment his defenses and quickly make a variety of simple structures or objects, from medieval weapons for smacking people with to walls and pillars that others can take cover behind to coffins meant for locking enemies inside of. Though these constructions must originate from himself, they can reach out to a fair distance and do not need to stay in contact with him afterwards. Unless he wills an early destruction or constantly repairs it, Tian-Gui’s Flamestone structures last around five minutes.

• Extra: Tian-Gui is practically immune to spicy foods, and has impressed quite a few restaurants with how much he could put away in his stomach…at least until they banned him afterwards.
