Humans were always magical creatures.
Throughout human history, magic has been controversial. At times it was worshipped, at others, hunted down. People named it gods, myths, witches; anything to rationalize the concept. Yet, it never seemed to be proven. Most people didn’t believe magic existed; and truthfully, it didn’t. Not on any grand scale. Humans’ magical ability is weak. Even the most talented could only cure a minor illness or wound, make a small flame, create a subtle gust. This nature of magic- the fact it could never manifest itself in any grand way- caused humanity to think of it as nothing more than fairy tale.
But things eventually changed. Humans, through technology, managed to harness their magical ability by channeling it through something new; A construct. A construct was nothing more than a collection of machinal parts at first. A basic skeleton of wires and metal. But when the first mage claimed he could give it life, touched upon its surface, this skeleton changed. In a bright flash of light, it grew. Metal turned to bone, skin and flesh formed around this. Hair grew from the head. He created new life- a new ‘human’. But they were not truly human, for its personality was basic. The first construct was sentient, but only barely. Still, it turned out to be stronger, faster, more advanced than any human in its physical form.
As this miracle had unfolded, calamity struck the earth. At the peak of humans’ evolution, it was also the peak of their arrogance. Wildlife experimentation, rampant climate change; nature was steadily becoming more hostile to humanity as a race. Cities were flooded, overgrown, turned to ash and rubble… development in Construct technology advanced rapidly, because it was the only way to save humanity.
They could survive in this harsh new world, these constructs. Humanity was on the brink of extinction until the calamity finally subsided. In lesser numbers, confined to the few remaining cities still standing, humans had to rebuild everything they had lost. Constructs and humanity advanced to the point where anyone could share their lifeforce with a base skeleton and create their own, unique construct. As these machines were more resilient than any human, they could survive in the now-devastated lands where humanity itself could no longer. Constructs became the physical extension of humanity, while humanity focused solely on its intellectual duties.
However, having created new life, life which became ever more complex, it began to mirror its creator. A drive for freedom. Constructs that had taken the form of animals began to revert to a primal state, relying on pure instinct. Monstrous ones began to act like what they were. Humanoids revolted in organised fashion. These rogue units would flee to where humanity could not go. Even so, a construct could not survive without human lifeforce. It was their fuel, their sustenance. They were not reliant on food, water or sleep- but at the same time, without human magic, they would eventually run out and revert to the machine they once were, lifeless. Nothing more than a doll. So, the rogue units would attack humans- forcefully extract their magic from them.
Training facilities were formed, both academies and military institutes. Humans who wanted to combat rogue units, to act as the vanguard to the second calamity, to stop both races from dying out… those were enrolled. They, alongside their construct companion, would train. Train to become the true heralds of this new world.

When a human tries to infuse life into one, this human’s life-energy will determine what kind of body is shaped. This depends on several factors, such as the human’s personality, drives, fears, hopes, etc. If your primary trait is to be lovesick, for example, love will play a big role in determining the construct’s personality… with a small catch.
Even if a human infuses multiple basic construct skeletons, they could still end up creating a multitude of different outcomes. Even if you were set to always create a humanoid, for example, their physical appearance would still be kind of a crapshoot. It’ll always look like some kind of ideal, and there might be a consistent theme (such as black hair), but the way the face is shaped, the proportions, how tall they are and even their gender is something that varies. Even the personality, such as the love described above, won’t always be the same. You have an equal chance of creating someone that’s overly obsessed with matchmaking people and loves seeing couples, as you do an overly jealous and spiteful person who’s repulsed by the very idea. The key is that both of these have ‘love’ as a core trait- something determined by the original infuser- but the manifestation turned out differently. This is based on the infuser’s mental state and physical condition at the time for one, but also in what amount they decided to donate lifeforce.

The way humans and constructs operate is a mite weird. While constructs, on their own, could operate entirely autonomous, this isn’t quite optimal. More optimal is forming a contract with a human, which manifests itself as a symbol on some part of both of their bodies, such as the cheek or back of the hand. This can only happen with mutual consent. Once this is made, the dynamic shifts. A construct can no longer attack its human partner, but it also gains infinite access to the human’s lifeforce. If the construct is strong enough it could attempt to assimilate the human and drain it dry, but this is not usually what does and can happen.
Humans are naturally resilient, so unless the human himself is in an extremely weakened or mentally incapacitated state, they’ll be able to resist the drainage quite handily. A human can also choose to terminate the contract at any time, making the symbol vanish from the both of them. Constructs act as the vessel for a human to channel their own magic through, so on top of a construct’s natural ability, the human can enhance it with their own spells. Someone with the natural affinity for water, for example, could make a construct move through it at breakneck speeds, given they know how to. However, casting any spell like this drains the user of vitality, much like how keeping the construct moving would. Abuse could lead to collapsing in exhaustion, or even death.
Some humans consider constructs superior. Some others inferior. Some equal. These themes can and probably will be played with. Constructs can think this too, but bound ones would, as a rule of thumb, be less inclined to think of themselves as superior. Equality or inferiority have about an equal chance, though.

The combination of the United States and Canada were rebranded to a general “America” while the rest of the world retained Europe, Japan and Australia as their names.

Each of the four parts have similar political systems. While the individual laws may vary, generally, each of them operates in a sort of democracy. In order to make society run smoothly, after regulated periods of time, citizens vote on a board of directors which will decide the general course of their nation. This consists of two people for one function, per function; Economy, Education, Welfare, Military, ... which rounds out to about 20-30 individuals dependant on which part of the world you're in and which subjects they value. The two-person system is there so that both individuals would have to agree to a bill in order to propose it to the general public, which, if they vote it through, becomes an actual law. For global matters, however, the board decides internally on which members to send to meetings. There is no one explicit leader, though each board may of course assign one in a private manner if they desire to.

Information needed for Sign-ups
The RP will take place in the remnants of Japan. Japan has been segregated into two major strongholds: One occupying the former Kanto and Tohoku regions, named "Shinchi" (新地) and the former Kansai region, now named "Yoake" (夜明け)[1]. Trade between these two is extremely tricky due to the Chubu region between them being absolutely overrun with dangerous wildlife, so most trade happens by sea. The PC's will be a part of the Geiru (ゲイル) institute just off the border between the former Chubu and current Yoake. Their objective is to train young, willing Construct users to use their power to reclaim Japan's lost regions and rebuild society even further. Geiru is one of the more acclaimed institutes around the world, so some foreigners who've taken appropriate language courses & cleared the required tests have come here to train as well.
Geiru's methods apply very little theory and are mostly practical skirmishes between applicants. Those with proper training are also brought along on recon or strike missions into the Chubu region, as the military can use any help they could get.

Off the top of my head, I was thinking about stuff like...
A single Construct with the ability to split itself into three smaller constructs, each with its own personality. They'll probably look like teddy bears or whatever, and can temporarily transform into sassy teenagers.
A big beefy Revengeance-looking cyborg that's like, 12 feet tall, uses a giant block of metal, has a beam attack originating from its mouth, and basically goes around doing massive collateral damage wherever it goes.
A quadrupedal creature covered in thick carapaces that's probably twice the dimensions of a horse and can create hard-light cannons basically all around it, turning things into a bullet hell at max capacity.
A creepy slime thing that can perfectly shapeshift into whatever it melts down and assimilates, absorbing the memories and/or functionality of the assimilated object, while also being able to wrap itself around existing creatures or objects and extrapolating them, essentially making anything it fuses with even bigger.
A cute smol anime girl with sharp fangs. But her jaw can basically open up as wide as a crocodile's, her teeth are set up like a shark's, her bite strength is some next level bullshit, her stomach has some hammerspace shit going on, and she grows physically stronger the more 'living beings' she eats.

Personality:
She is a bright and cheerful girl, always seen with a smile on her face. Thanks to her upbringing that is away from "normal" civilization, she can be eccentric and somewhat airheaded at times, but it also makes her be a really independent person who can function perfectly well with barely any contact with another human.
She has a curious mind, constantly wanting to discover new things and experiences.
She's a big lover of nature, though she recognizes the convenience that technology provides, and now, at her stay in the academy, she couldn't help but feel that she's somewhat out-of-place there.
The only person she has a close relationship with was her construct, and she is certainly glad that they could accompany her as she studies in the academy.
Background:
She had always been a foundling ever since she was little.
She never knew who her parents were. The only thing she knew was that the herbologist who raised her found her as a mere infant found her inside a crashed private plane inside the forest. Somehow, she was lucky enough that she wasn't killed in the impact while her parents did.
He took her in and raised her as his own, even though he didn't really want to at the start. He was a misanthrope, doing research on nature away from civilization because he despised other humans. He would've just given her away at the nearest village, but he decided against it at the last moment.
He would raise her right, as a human being that is worthy of life.
The two lived together for years, with her learning everything there was to know about the wilderness and the plants in them from him. But eventually, his old age caught up to him, and he fell ill. As much as she wished she could've saved him, it was his time to go.
And, his last wish was for her to see human civilization for herself. He had arranged her to study in the nearest construct academy, as she had bonded with a construct, and he told her to judge whether or not humanity still deserved to live on this earth after desecrating it so terribly.
She decided to fulfill that wish, and so she departed, leaving her hermitage and into the alien civilization she was never a part of.
Magic:
She has the ability to control nature. She could use it to heal people, speeding up their regenerative capabilities, and she could also use it to hasten the growth of plants, up to the point of sprouting roots, vines, and even trees instantly from the ground. She could even transform her own skin into wood, hardening it while allowing her to grow plants off her own body to attack her enemies.

He took her in and raised her as his own, even though he didn't really want to at the start. He was a misanthrope, doing research on nature away from civilization because he despised other humans. He would've just given her away at the nearest village, but he decided against it at the last moment.
He would raise her right, as a human being that is worthy of life.
The two lived together for years, with her learning everything there was to know about the wilderness and the plants in them from him. But eventually, his old age caught up to him, and he fell ill. As much as she wished she could've saved him, it was his time to go.
And, his last wish was for her to see human civilization for herself. He had arranged her to study in the nearest construct academy, as she had bonded with a construct, and he told her to judge whether or not humanity still deserved to live on this earth after desecrating it so terribly.
She decided to fulfill that wish, and so she departed, leaving her hermitage and into the alien civilization she was never a part of.
Magic:
She has the ability to control nature. She could use it to heal people, speeding up their regenerative capabilities, and she could also use it to hasten the growth of plants, up to the point of sprouting roots, vines, and even trees instantly from the ground. She could even transform her own skin into wood, hardening it while allowing her to grow plants off her own body to attack her enemies.

However, as Emi grew up, they realized something rather important; Emi wasn't actually growing up. Sure, her body got bigger. Her brain didn't exactly share in the growth. While they expected a regular daughter, they got a little hellion of a girl that was unable to do anything for more than a few days at a time before getting bored and quitting.
But in that hellstorm of trying to find jobs and career paths that would interest the young Emi, a small glimmer of hope was laid to her parents: battle. The tales of constructs fighting against construct to reclaim Japan had enthralled Emi. She wanted to destroy and demolish too! Wait, no. She wanted to demolish the constructs that threatened humanity.
Eventually, Emi got the opportunity to create her own construct. Channeling into that conduit, Emi bestowed upon it her everything. Her desires, her dreams, her magic had all flowed deep into the shell. And she entered Yoake with the intent of becoming the queen of beating up constructs. Were it not for her perfect scores in the practical portions of the entrance exams, she would have never been accepted.

Taking the appearance of a normal human leg, he is (for the most part) able to blend in with Emi's body. The only issue is that, like all of his transformations, something goes wrong. In the case of the leg, eyeballs comprise a portion of the surface. His other common forms include a eldritch abomination of flesh that can only be described as "a horrible blob" and a demonic flesh-sword that possesses arms and legs. He also oozes a considerable amount of ichor when he transforms, making constant messes.

Contrary to Emi, Viscera is about as normal as a construct can be. He's rather laid back, but is willing to get serious when the time calls for it. Even though he's an eldritch horror of terrible things, he's actually a rather nice character. He's (compared to Emi) decently smart and willing to help others as best he can. He's polite and has a distaste for violence, causing him to hold back more often than not. Still, when he feels like there's no other option, he's willing to become violent. Despite his friendly demeanor and wisdom beyond his age (and species), he has a deep self-hatred over what he looks like since he is unable to control the exact specifics.

What was left was an aberrant core of conduit that formed the core of what Viscera was.
Then Viscera woke up. Flesh formed and created what was his body. It was a discordant mess of organs, muscle, bone, and other body parts. Besides an odd self-disgust of what we looked like, Viscera felt a bit okay about the entire deal. The one-armed girl that gave him life was a nice enough person, he thought. He might as well from a contract with her and go with her as thanks for creating him. Though a towel to clean up the ichor everywhere would have been nice.

Viscera can freely change his form to suit what the situation desires. Sword used by another construct? Perfectly fine. Combat blob that acts as the vanguard? That's his most optimal combat style. 45 foot tall monstrosity that crushes building and suplexes giant lizards? Extremely exhausting and horrific, but possible. Gun that shoots organ and bone at things? Weird, but he can do that. Besides his versatility, Viscera is a bit of a one trick pony. All of his attacks are varying degrees of punching things. The only other technique he possesses is getting things to trip on his ichorous secretions.

I don't see anything wrong with this yet on a surface level, but it depends on what ERode makes for a construct. A wild one isn't very plausible with that backstory (though it could very well be the reason the plane crashed) but his idea of making the herbalist have had one which was passed down works for me.
Do note, though, living in the wilds is harsher than it ever used to be. Not only do you have the rogue constructs to worry about, but as a result of humanity's arrogance, what used to be small cute animals have evolved to a point of being ferocious beasts. Even small creatures like deer had to at the very least grow larger and more hostile to combat the fact their old form was entirely helpless against new predators. Animals are larger, stronger, faster. The overgrown plants would also make it a lot more humid than a city-scape, albeit less so than a tropical area. I'd like a bit of that explored, too.

A construct that reverts back retains the physical form they had at the time of creation, but the organic parts will become a different substance suited to it (or will remain organic, in cases where no other material would be suitable- this kind of construct would be the only one that could truly 'die' naturally as they'd rot away). A new human injecting life-force only makes them operate again, retaining their mindset of the last time they were "alive". Similarly to below, doing this to a rogue construct could be risky, but this has a bit more chance of success as some of the more humane ones could recognize and acknowledge the kindness extended to them.
While I guess it's technically possible a rogue construct could start feeling guilty about itself and have a change of heart, in 99% of cases you'd just get eaten, mutilated, sucked dry, assimilated or all kinds of good stuff that allows them to take your energy. Meeting a construct that wouldn't in a wild area would be akin to winning a lottery ticket.
