My biggest question is do we need an active recruitment? We have enough of a core cast that realistically Coulson could form the Avengers and Tony could form a Justice League and there'd probably still be people running around independently.

I'm not against new players, just saying we have a good group now to keep moving things forward.

What may be easier though if you're recruiting is offer up people a list of characters who have been taken, and those that have some established lore.

Such as Arthur, the GoTG, Hawkeye etc.

People could theoretically apply for those characters but to line up with the roleplay there's certain hoops to go through.

You make a fair point! I'll have a bit of a think about everything and get back to this. Let's hold off on the recruitment for now.

I suppose my worry was that after looking at who we're losing due to inactivity from an eagle-eye view the roleplay looked like it was losing players, but you're right everyone here has been fantastic with their activity both IC and OOC.

Speaking as someone who was largely on the outskirts of these games for a number of years the 'oh I am not actually playing that character but I'd rather they not be played or also they have to be played x way' is also pretty exhausting and off putting as a new arrival.

I think if we want to do a push for more players we should probably extend the leniency of not forcing people to stick to previous purged characters to also existing players being more flexible with the idea of people playing characters we may have mentioned or used as NPCs in ways we didnt anticipate.

Which isn't to say throw any and all restrictions based on what has already happened out the window, more just me bringing up an issue I know plenty of people have avoided these games over in the past.

Alternatively we don't reinvent the wheel and just keep chugging along as is because while we may have lost some people we still have a bunch of very active folks.

True. I just mean basic facts should be maintained if they've appeared IC but the moment someone takes them on that takes presidence.

Yeah taking part in a shared comic universe to me is most of the fun of these RPs so certainly events/facts for NPCs and such should be maintained, it's definitly a balance. I just think particularly for new recruitment we could stand to be flexible with characters we aren't actually playing.

Today was the cut off for my messages to players, so I plan to update the character roster later today when I get a minute. Being that my idea behind this game was almost total player freedom I'm not crazy about the idea of telling people who we'd prefer they play.

I don't actually expect we'll get many more people from the recruitment drive than who we have now, but I just wanted to give notice to anyone who's interested, but perhaps seen the high post count and felt like they couldn't apply the opportunity to apply.

I also believe it couldn't harm the roleplay, it's always nice to have some new ideas and stories floating around.

I do agree with the Player Freedom part, but Wraith does have a point, there's gonna be a lot of people coming in like this, only to find Spider-Man, Superman and Batman all taken

I think we can all agree it'd be more of a "Here's some popular characters that you may like" rather than "These are characters you may choose from. You will join, you will have fun, that is a threat!"

I'm not actively looking to take away the sense of freedom given to players, so much as guide new players.

Total freedom for an incoming player was lost the moment the first character sheet was accepted, and even further, the minute the IC was established and plots were set in motion. So, unless we're opening up to multiverse shenanigans, they'll still have to potentially contend with the fact that, in addition to the big three being taken, most of the concepts don't allow for their legacy characters.

For myself, that was stated right in the original CS that wouldn't be okay with someone applying as a Supergirl or Superboy, so that was a freedom taken right off the table from the get-go since a lot of my concept is hinged on Clark being the only Kryptonian in the galaxy. Likewise, I'm sure with Thomas Wayne as Batman, and an active Dick Grayson Robin, there's not exactly room for Tim, Jason, Damian etc in the game.

So coming in blind and then being hit with disappointment isn't productive for a new player either. It's not that I want to railroad anyone into 'you need to apply for Green Arrow' so much as, 'hey these are characters we don't have that we think could be a great fit, but if there's someone else who isn't taken, we'd be happy to entertain that too.'

Because I’m super lazy and sometimes poor at pattern recognition it’d be great to get a list of freed-up characters once the inactives/dropped have been purged from the roster. I’m coming up to finishing Hellblazer now so thinking more seriously about my post-Constantine future in this game.

I believe that's the character roster updated with everyone active/inactive. If I've missed anyone please let me know.

I've also add a small section for inactive characters that have had a tangible effect on others or the story as a whole within the roleplay as I think this is something that should be handled with care if applications come through for these characters.

Lastly, I've edited the rules around posting requirements slightly, @Lord Wraith thanks for your suggestion a few pages back around wording as this is what I used!

I've also edited the rules slightly around the character limit. A few people have PM'd me about interest in third characters, which myself and Cyrania will vet on a case-by-case basis based on activity and reliability before allowing an application for this.

Anyway, I'd just like to say thank you to everyone for their patience and help working through any changes, etc I've been vocal about making to the roleplay. This whole thing has been a huge learning experience for me, and I'm happy everyone feels comfortable enough to let me know their thoughts about how we think things should look going forward.

With Cyclops and the event out of the way, I shall have a regular posting schedule. Hopefully I can be like Wraith and get multiple posts out a week.

I just got the impression that it's meant to happen as quickly as possible after attack to truly be a grand thing, and so with the help of comic book time and Emma's millions, I imagined that it could happen that night.
