Expendable ...what falls from the skies is not the rain...

@JFK

Why do you think Yev is making hard cider? And just imagine what she can do with the potato peelings?

Once every two weeks or a month, I could see them allowing a call. Email may be possible, depends on what's allowed.

No packages, of course, but maybe outsiders can pay into the canteen fund or pay for something from one of the other domes. I doubt we're getting civilian pay, we're just cheap labor.

One benefit is there's no place to go, really, so no need for counts or check-ins, but I imagine Holiday does that quietly.

My character is wearing a bioplastic outfit, but it's possible that because of the work you're doing, you have an actual coverall and leather shoes to wear.

Your character has technical skills vital to the survival of the dome, while mine is just assisting with animals and helping to package the goods. I expect King George to have additional privileges.

Alright, wee bit overdue (had to get my brain in a braining mood) but here's my hat tossed in.

@Eisenhorn Isaac Adesso, approved. I don't have anything clever to say here, he's just a perfectly normal person, and that's cool.

As an idea, I'm going to suggest that for the apartment building, the lower floors are divided into male and female floors.

There was no plan initially for prisoner quarters, but there's a couple of small padded rooms should someone go crazy. Yev got assigned to one of these rooms. This room has no inside door controls, and can only be opened by Holiday.

Probably why King George doesn't use his room.

There's a services wall with a large display that connects to the apartment's entertainment system, library, and grants access to various dome systems. There's also a push-button water dispenser in the far corner that provides hot and cold water that empties into a floor drain right under it.

She has a futon bed that transforms into a couch. There's no drawers, but there are some built-in shelves.

this is only a suggestion.

If you've seen the first episode of Psycho Pass, there's a scene in the beginning where this girl has a very nice apartment - but when she leaves, the hologram projector turns off and all the furniture looks like it came from Ikea.

Maybe some programmable wallpaper in the other apartments?

On my end, I can’t imagine the Concern or Holiday caring about the living arrangements enough to split anyone into segregated housing. A few padded rooms in a medical office would make a lot of sense, but for all Holiday cares you could all share a single suite of rooms.

Holiday may sass people for taking manager rooms above their pay grade, but the Concern itself would be so hands off after three years that if someone could deal with the occasional Holiday reminder then they could totally just take any room they felt like taking.

Interesting. Thought for sure there be some petty bureaucrat or manager who'd object with putting prisoners in a standard apartment.

I understand what you’re saying, and that can certainly be the case situationally, I just wanted to make sure nobody was overestimating the sincere cramped crappiness of a prefab shared-space dormitory. I’ve been in dorms with roughly equal space to some prisons today.

The only ‘luxury’ any of you have is that the entire place is virtually uninhabited, with the option of laying claim to some nicer spaces or personalized spaces at your own convenience.

If this place was at full capacity it would be horrendous for everyone involved on a human ethics level.

LD-10 isn’t agrarian hell because Concern is cutting corners and pinching pennies and you all are getting some freedoms because of that. (And because I’m not interested in hopeless drudgery, even for an apocalypse scenario start)

I personally think about it this way: does having a separate, different area save them any money? Does it make them any money? If no, they probably wouldn't spring for a whole section to house prisoners separately. There might be a holding cell somewhere meant to detain lawbreakers until they could be shipped elsewhere though, intended for if the Dome was full staffed and lived in. (Unless I'm missing it) since none of the "troublemakers" in the cast were convicted of violent crimes* it likely doesn't matter much where they stay, and maybe wouldn't have even been brought on in the first place.

*This is with the assumption that Alyssa was acquitted after the two years incarceration, purely on the thought that even in a capitalistic hellscape a murder charge would not be so lenient - plus they can make money from convicts so there is more incentive for longer sentences if she actually was found guilty.

Anyway, since the characters sort of know each other (or at least know of each other), I may do something similar to Expendable and give some in character thoughts on the rest of the cast. And if anyone wants to pitch any ways they think Rhiannon might have harassed their character over the last 3 IC years, go ahead lol

When Gwendlyn was done with primary education, she started to work in the factories as well.

Does this mean she started work at age 12? Or do you mean when she finished school around 18?
Also Arthur would have definitely been willing to do a lot of favours to get some tobacco.

I was referring to her graduating at 18. I probably could have worded that better.

In regards to the tobacco, Gwendlyn would have no qualms trading or giving some here and there, provided it doesn't leave her in a pinch.

If you give a human sheep, you get bagpipes.

If you give a human prohibition, you get bathtub whiskey.

Isaac Dispositions:

-Mihail Chivu - Positive: Isaac understands the outrage in front of the earth ecological disaster, it is only natural. But it is also natural to move on to more realistic expectations from life as you grow older. With Mihail being 30 now, Isaac is getting both impatient and anxious, feeling that the young man will either settle down in his work or do something stupid soon.

-Xi Yingxue - Very Positive: The apple of his eye, it may be hubris but he can't help but see a lot of himself in the young prodigy and gives her a lot more leeway than he does anyone else, which means tolerating minor mistakes as temporary lapses of judgement or gaps in her knowledge he is happy to educate. She is a hard worker after all, not just lazy like all the others. Isaac is doing his best to groom her to take his place should he finally get out of this purgatory but for all his affection, he still doesn't get her, taking her antisocial character at face value and just something she personally prefers so he does polite discussion when they work together but does not try to do anything more.

-Arthur Eel - Negative: A criminal ludite, the fact this is what Concern makes him work with annoys Isaac to no end. Yet he is forced to at least respect the skills of the man, though he only trusts him as far as he can keep an eye on him. An old convict with a grudge against society forced to work in a priceless corporately owned installation, what if he decides to go out with a bang or something?

-Alyssa Cross - Positive: When Alyssa initially came to the Dome, Isaac had been very skeptical to have a murderer work with him, but after a couple of years he mellowed out his opinion somewhat. He isn't sure if she did it or not, but her education and competence are genuine and although her snark is annoying, Isaac has done enough self reflection to understand this is probably how he comes out to others so he's willing to let it slide.

-Yevpraksiya Popova - Very Negative: Without being corpo aristocracy, Isaac led a very sheltered life that makes him unable to believe the dept of human misery some people suffer. In his mind, rough looking ruffian types are taken at face value and Popova must've done something to deserve her fate and all those terrible stories must be exaggerated or lies.

-Rhiannon Rossi - Negative: Too whimsical and not dedicated enough for his tastes, plus they got hired without having an official completed DVM, what is Concern thinking? After these years at least they've proven capable of doing their job without fucking up and if lying on their resume is their worst crimes then he can tolerate them.

-Isaac Adesso - Very Positive: This guy gets it, the urge to embark on a colony ship and get out there in the big unknown! And Isaac also gets it, to be passed over and left behind, your dreams crushed but still having to go on with life. The doctor roots for the EVA specialist and often chooses to turn a blind eye on his cavalier attitude toward regulations as well as schedule at least one yearly physical inspection of dome integrity to get the man to use his skills even if it could have been done remotely by drone.

-Gwendlyn Neilson - Positive: Gwendlyn's CV might not have all the bells and whistles Isaac would want someone working in this dome to have, but his middle class sensibilities give him a lot of respect for someone he sees as genuinely trying to pull herself up by her bootstraps and do better for herself without getting involved in crime like way too many others here. Plus for someone with no bio expertise she grows surprisingly good tea and seasonings and the two have had some fun 'theoretical' discussions about fermentation.
