Name: Isaac Adesso
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Status: Voluntary Contractor
Role: EVA/Spacewalk Specialist, HAZMAT Response and General Maintenance
Responsibilities: Isaac is the designated subject matter expert for any and all repairs and operations requiring exiting LD-10 onto the lunar surface, in one of the restricted space suits, and is also expected to be the first responder for HAZMAT. When those traits are not required, he is expected to perform general maintenance and upkeep taskings for the machinery and non-biological upkeep of LD-10. This often means he handles the dirtier and more unpleasant taskings, which he accepts with weary resignation.
Relationship with Holiday: Nominally ambivalent. While he has argued with the AI at times over his solutions to certain problems when parts were otherwise not available, he does not really care to hold a grudge or waste his time or energy on disliking the AI. He doesn't feel particularly strongly in favor of Holiday either, but given beyond badgering him about proper forms, the AI basically leaves him to his own devices. As such, he puts up with the complaints about not following paperwork procedures when they come up. Compared to his pre-LD-10 relationships, it might as well be friendly by comparison.
Strengths and Capabilities:
- EVA Training - The primary reason that Isaac was offered a position on LD-10, he has received reasonably extensive training and certification to operate and perform repairs and maintenance in environments without atmosphere, mainly the lunar surface as far as LD-10 goes but nominally this could be extended to other situations where space suit like gear is required to be able to even survive, let alone perform the required taskings and duties that got him in that situation to begin with.
- Mechanical Aptitude - Isaac is a mechanic by trade, having been undergoing the EVA training primarily as a way to try and get on one of the expeditions to Mars, Europa, or Pluto. He had no such luck, but it did not change the fact that you could basically put him in front of machinery of varying sorts and he could figure it out. Maintaining said equipment when given a manual and procedure to follow would be reliably simple, even if tediously boring.
- Improvisation - Born poor, grew up slightly less poor, and basically always stretching equipment and tools as far as he could, Isaac has a knack for taking pieces of equipment and tools and repurposing them to make up for lacking in proper tooling and gear. There are limits, naturally (he is not going to build an EVA capable suit out of scraps in a cave), but he can often figure out how to make ends meet when limited on supplies. Convenient growing up, less immediately useful on LD-10.
Faults and Limitations:
- Perpetual Exhaustion - Isaac is an undiagnosed (by his insistence) insomniac, getting the bare minimum of sleep and running on a constant intake of caffeine and sheer bloody minded spite. During normal day to day operations it is mostly just noted that he looks exhausted, but during high stress or long shifts it can have a negative impact on his interpersonal demeanor and behavior. He has stated in the past that sleep and him have agreed to a cold war against each other, and it is unclear how serious he is about the matter.
- Socially Inept - Isaac just never clicked with people, being blunt in response to basically anything and speaking with little to no filter. If he has the energy to talk, there are times where he treats foul language like punctuation, having no concern with proper decorum or presenting himself well. It is not born of any ill intention, but simply because his line of work just never exposed him to a great deal of people under the best of circumstances.
- Regulation Dismissing- Isaac's willingness to bend rules and use whatever is at hand to actually get the job done can also come around to bite him in the metaphorical ass. Holiday has told him more than once to submit proper requests for parts and tools instead of making do, even if he is of the firm opinion that letting things fall apart while waiting for one of the other domes to 'pull their collective heads out of their asses' and send parts was a waste of time. He will sometimes suggest these improvised and jury rigged approaches once the official solution fails, even when not strictly necessary.
Residence: Isaac has basically laid claim to one of the countless machine shops that sit on the outer rim of LD-10 as his own personal living space and workshop. The workshop itself is an absolute mess of equipment, tools, personal projects, and basically everything he could stuff into one location. Officially he has a room in the residential apartment complex, though he has not set foot in there since he started working on LD-10. The moment he saw how few people were here, he had basically made a beeline for the outer rim of the Dome, set up a cot in a workshop, and made it his own. While his skills as a licensed EVA specialist rarely came to be needed, it puts him in an ideal position to respond to a crisis, part of how he explains why he basically lives out in his workshop.
Brief Biography:Isaac Adesso was born and raised in a mechanically inclined family, generations of mechanics that had basically been working in the underbelly of the world. While they never were particularly well off, they would make ends meet and that was enough for them. Isaac was, at least early on, no different, raised to be a mechanic like his father and so on. What changed that was the idea of interplanetary colonization, being floated around the schools he was a part of, which immediately caught his attention. His parents didn't have the time to care, as long as his grades were passing they basically left him alone, so he started pushing himself towards being able to qualify for one of the expeditions. He was encouraged by his teacher, as well as corporate staffers peddling said ideas, and by the time he graduated high school, and the following trade school, he was given a corporate sponsorship to a recently established EVA school.
Isaac did well, far from top of his class but never showing any signs of being unsuitable for the task. Unfortunately, with how limited space was and how few EVA specialists were expected to be needed, even though he graduated and received his EVA certifications, he ultimately was passed over for the latest round of interplanetary colonization efforts. It decimated Isaac on a personal level, as well as financial since he was still expected to turn a profit to repay that corporate sponsorship. He basically was working every waking hour of his life to stay afloat and ahead of the creditors and debt collection, though he stayed just far enough ahead that he was not considered delinquent enough to bring legal action against.
What changed matters was an agent for the Concern approaching him with an offer, one that most people would consider mad. Agree to a voluntary contractor role on LD-10 as their assigned EVA specialist, as well as receive HAZMAT certification and general maintenance and mechanical support, and they would buy his debt. Serve his time, and he would be debt free. Isaac agreed to the job after brief deliberation, his parents having both passed away at this point. He did not see a point of staying on Earth, he had trained to work in space after all, and if he did not take the deal? He would probably eventually drown in debt, or alcoholism, whichever got him first. So, he was bundled up onto the next transport heading out to the Dome, and the rest was, as they say, history. He has been working in LD-10 ever since, barely paying attention to the interpersonal politics or goings on, his EVA training remaining woefully underutilized still, but at least he has gotten to go on a spacewalk or two since his arrival.
