Old bastard with a permanent physical deformity of organic armour, as in his skin having turned into plates of bone, chitin, etc. Backed up by regeneration. One of the core themes of the character being, that he is a brooding, cynical asshole, who has suffered greatly because he cannot hide well...but still continues to help others. Also, he's poor as hell, and in no way could ever afford some kind of holographic/cloaking disguise.

Will try to think of something else.

Hmm, if that's allowable, then....yeeesss.
Always have had him being covered up; deep hooded coats, baggy pants, gloves, heavy work boots, etc. Tries to avoid being seen, because people tend to react badly, and he's had...history. Physical appearance has always been hard to describe, until I watched something again. Something old; Grig from The Last Starfighter movie. A bit rougher, and less uniform, heavier set, shorter, broader, squater, etc.

The idea for his powerset, was actually a very slow acting reactive adaptation mechanism; essentially, it has taken years of getting the shit kicked out of him, to grow the dermal armour he has. And by slow acting, I mean slowly, like needing to be electrocuted six or seven times in a week, just to kick in for the body to start trying to generate methods to resist it, stop it, or do something to prevent the harm from occuring. Even then, it would take months of being electrocuted, daily, before it came up with some means of truly protecting him from it. But it isn't just his skin, it is everything: his bones are stronger and denser, his muscles have greater resistance to damage (cutting, crushing, etc). The regeneration has always been a slow-acting thing, definitively not "Wolverine" class in healing a bullet wound in a couple minutes to a couple seconds, depending on who wrote it. More like, taking over an hour.

Essentially, his entire powerset is devoted to being resiliant, tough, and extremely survivable. He is strong, but only to peak human capability (Dead lift ~1000 lbs, etc). He isn't fast, but he can run for a long time, so long as it isn't hot out...as his protection, has eliminated his ability to sweat. He can sustain a higher core temp than a normal human, but that doesn't mean much, as his overall endurance in any sort of moderate climate is still at, or less than average, due to his inability to simply get rid of the heat. Inversely, he can tolerate extremely hot environments for very short durations; his skin that insulates him from getting rid of heat, also insulates him from heat for a couple minutes at best. So he can run into a burning building, stay there for maybe three minutes and get out, but that heat will still transfer through and he will burn...just after the fact.

Other weakness? He cannot damn well float. Due to the increased density of...well, everything about him? He simply sinks in water, no matter how hard he tries to swim against it. He avoids any sort of location with deep water, because he can tank being punted through some walls, being shot, impaled, whatever. But drowning? He is not so sure he can survive that.

Personality wise? Cynical, with reason. Finds it hard to trust people, but he wants to. Is kind, gentle, supportive and caring of those who he does trust. Fatherly (He is over 60 years old!)

I'm not a GM so no need to take my words to heart, but I think he's alright compared to the others who have this power. The limitations on stamina will make him fairly interesting to play, since he can't just run in and save the day. The idea of being really heavy sounds pretty neat too, since he's going to be falling a bit harder as well as drowning. The resilience is built-up over the decades so it at least carries a sense of biology with it, and means he won't be getting much stronger throughout the RP. Plus living so long with a presumably harsh backstory would make someone cynical and jaded, so it ties itself up nicely.
Still, I think you could remove the adaptations from his character completely if you wanted, though seeing how old he is and slow it acts... eh. It still works. If I were you I would work on defining what he can and cannot do, maybe an extra weakness (how often will he be near water, really?), and a backstory which accounts for the slow adaptation creating his thick skin. I think that'll get him through c: Best to discuss it with the Boss, tho :D

I have an old character idea that never quite made it to light, but their power is essentially "Tattoo Manipulation", which a lesser ability to manipulate the properties of most inks, either using them (to an extent) for offense of defense. It's a telekinetic power which requires a lot of focus by the user.

That character from the Elektra comics/movie comes to mind, but I'm not sure if I'd want a channeled ability or not to sustain the power.

Any thoughts?

Weaknesses:

Camouflage requires a lot of energy, therefore she can only hold it for a minute or two at best. No more durable than an average person and will succumb to most things that would kill a normal human being. Her heightened senses are also more susceptible to damage given their extra sensitivity (ex. Bright light will daze her for longer than someone with regular vision.)

Noteworthy Equipment (ED = Everyday, H = Hero):

• Professional-Grade DSLR (ED): Her main photography and videography camera. Mel never leaves home without it. She also carries a variety of lenses to suit her needs in the field.
• Laptop (ED): Mainly for sending her photos and footage to large news corporations, main asset in her source of income.
• Black tactical backpack (ED): Something sturdy that will stay put, no matter her orientation, even upside down. Carries all her work gear.
• Hard knuckle gloves (H): Standard duty gloves with a hard carbon fibre inlay around the knuckles. Gives that extra ‘oomf’ to her unarmed combat strikes.
• Twin Batons (H): Two batons made from titanium and carbon fibre. Can be combined into a single, longer blunt weapon. Used on the uncommon occasions where she doesn’t fight unarmed.
• Combat Knife (ED/H): Military-esque combat knife, carried no matter where she is.

A product of an experiment gone wrong.

Melissa’s life has been one of perspective. In her early life, all she knew were the four concrete walls of what was essentially a glorified prison cell. Created from the genetic modification of an embryo, then grown in a lab until she was ready to “be born”, Melissa was purpose built to be the first in what was meant to be the next generation of soldiers. Mind you, there was one issue. She was originally intended to be male. A slip-up by one of the engineers caused an unintended, unnoticed change in her chromosomes, so they were quite surprised when the fetus started showing female traits.

Because of this, her portion of the project was scrapped and restarted from the beginning. Melissa was born in critical condition, barely breathing or showing any vital signs at all. She was kept in I.C.U for the first two years of her life until she stabilized, before being transferred to a regular cell when she turned three. Throughout her childhood she was taught a relatively standard school curriculum from age five to fourteen, all the while being trained to fight alongside what was essentially her one year younger brother.

Up until this point, both Mel and her younger counterpart had been considered complete successes. They had both shown themselves able to use their abilities very competently and were both extremely proficient in hand to hand combat. But Mel was exhibiting something that the male wasn’t, something that the top brass of the facility thought was very intriguing and that would be very profitable. Enhanced strength. At age fourteen, she was able to lift almost 500 lbs above her head with no issue, able to slow a moving vehicle significantly and able to beat almost every single combat instructor in one on one combat.

Eventually her “brother” was all but forgotten and Mel took the spotlight, the centerpiece of their super-soldier program. No longer residing in a prison cell-- she had made it clear that she hated the cell by putting a whole through five feet of concrete-- Mel lived a fairly decent life. Now sixteen years old, she trained, ate and slept with the rest of the team while her counterpart sat on the sidelines, jealousy and hatred building inside of him.

And then one night, he snapped. Mel awoke to sirens going off all around. She stepped outside of her room only to see the corpses of the entire research team, the closest thing she had to family, strewn about the lab. In the center of them, her counterpart stood, bruised and bloodied. She couldn’t believe it. It felt surreal, seeing them all dead. The anger began to rise inside of her and she couldn’t help but think about killing the young man that stood in front of her. But part of her held back. He had been through enough.

Time flew by for the next fourteen years. In this time, Mel had been in and out of both orphanages and schools. She didn’t last more than a month in one place before she no longer felt safe around the other students. Eventually, after living on the street for a year, she managed to get a job at a fast food restaurant and found a cheap apartment to stay in. Mel worked hard to save money for college and applied for a two-year journalism course.

Now? Mel earned her diploma in journalism and through persuasion, managed to land a job at a small, independent newspaper company as a photojournalist. Though infrequent, a story that requires her specific skill set will occasionally come through. Her boss doesn’t know how she manages the pictures she does, but in Mel’s mind all that matters is the final product.

In her powers backstory maybe have something about the chameleon genes being spliced with hers to explain the wall crawling, enhanced vision (no x-ray) and the camouflage. (But you can keep her relatively 'human' appearance).

Because right now the fact that she had male chromosomes switched over doesn't do much to explain why she has the powers she does. Also drop the batons and the knife. Her powers make her deadly enough without equipment.

Everything else looks good, but the 'shadowy' organization that created her needs a name, we could make it Eclipse? That way it ties nicely into the story.
