That actually offers some interesting worldbuilding opportunities. Perhaps Tricaelians follow a goddess. Maybe there are several popes, along with one high pope. And holy symbol, well, it could be just about anything.

And not just religion. Since Tricaelia is a world with magic, medicine is definitely move effective than during the actual middle ages.

In fact, there was a custom born from a belief that King's touch, born of divine authority could heal diseases. In fact one disease, scrofula, was associated with the believed healing power of the Royal Touch to the point that it became also known as King's Evil.

King Willum is confirmed to possess magic, so he may also possess a Royal Touch. One sign of his callousness towards his people could be that he refuses to perform the ritual.

EDIT: Oops, didn't notice @Kitty answering. But nevermind about the religion.

Anyway, my character doesn't like nobles, whoever they are. To her noble blood is like a poison. But we will see. This might prove interesting.

@Kitty how do we feel about the idea that other races do exist in large numbers but not in this region? Like there’s a whole continent of elves that just hasn’t been discovered yet, and any elves that are in this kingdom would either be immigrants or the descendants of them.

I’m trying to decide if this character, Danath, should be a Halfling (a hobbit-like diminutive person, also potentially called a Pygmy or something similar), or if I should just make him a human like everyone else. If he’s a human, he’ll be like 4’11”-5’3”, if he’s a different race he’ll be like 3 and a half foot tall and easily mistaken for a child or a human adult with some form of dwarfism. I really enjoy small characters, especially when they don’t allow their small stature to prevent them from taking on big, lofty goals, and I’ve kinda taken that idea to the extreme with this one. “Small man, big ambition” is basically his character summed up in a phrase.

While your character is well written and interesting. Both @Aerandir and I agree, no one who isn't human would make it up that far into the ranks of the castle let alone, work under neath the king. The people of the kingdom, are highly prejudice and even racist against other humans, i.e. the veiled ones. Especially the King himself. He's really messed up and would never allow such a thing.

For you question earlier about races being on other continents, the races are dwindling in numbers. There are not undiscovered continents with them in larger numbers. There will be a plot point to come in that explains why so few exist of the races now. Maybe in the future we can explore small hidden villages of just the specific races. But not whole continents.

@Kitty do you have any suggestions for changes, or shall I just abandon the idea of having a non-human character entirely? I could always make him simply a literal little person with dwarfism, though I dunno if that would circumvent prejudice or not.

@Kitty @Rydude17 I really like the character, he reminds me of Tyrion Lannister, and we could always use a Tyrion esque character. How about a Halfling that’s pretending to be a dwarf, with trimmed ear tips, who faked pedigree documents to pretend he’s from some distant highborn family. It’s not a unheard of ploy, and If his talents were sufficient in placateigng the nobles I’m sure they’d be content to look the other way for the more questionable bits. Like “who the heck is Family Kindasmall? and why have they been ruling a Earldom in the farthest reaches of the kingdom without me knowing about it for three hundred years?”

@Dusty I like that idea, if it's an option! I had sort of envisioned Danath as being one of those "strictly off-the-record" type characters who should technically not be allowed to do what he does, but is given a blind eye because he solves problems that need solving. If he was in possession of fake documents that let him get into a position where he could get things done, even after people learned of his falsehoods it would be difficult to replace him properly.

@Rydude17after talking with kitty, we don’t really see a halfling (or for that matter a person suffering from dwarfism) getting into the inner circle of the king. Who is highly racist of anyone different from him. He and the prince would see your character as a joke and the only job he would probably give him is Jester.

Another thing about faking the pedigree, while it could possibly in a long stretch work, the woodsman (points to first post) would see right through it. As it’s their job to gather Intell. If you want to be the spy for the king I recommend something else. Unless you are spying on the kingdom under guise of a servant.

@Chiro as for your character we don’t have any any issues yet. Just know there isn’t an open rebellion yet, so if that’s what the citizens army is we might have to cha he that.

If she is from a merchant family, what city does she bail? (First page has a map, and the left three city’s are the veiled ones.)

I dunno, Aaron is a practical person, with his animosity targeted towards, “I’m better than thou,” rather than a “I refuse to associate,” @Aerandir How about, in one last ditch effort, @Rydude17’s character Danath works as a spy for Aaron directly in defiance of the King, seeing as the Woodsmen report to the king. Because one thing Aaron would definitely do is things that irk his lord father.

@Dustyif you want a personal spy that’s fine. Just know if he’s caught in the castle by the kings men he will be targeted.

Tentative interest here. Will admit, the most recent update of the OP has thrown off my idea to create a more savage "Robin Hood and the Merry Men" now that the Woodsmen are in the picture, and since there appears to be only one forest to inhabit.

I do have a few random questions to toss out: what is the nature of alchemy in this world (if it exists at all)? Would they have access to things such as elixirs and potent chemicals like alchemist/Greek fire?

On a different note, what is the nature of the cities under King Willem's reign? Are they a slightly more urbanized fantasy city, in which there are houses and the like within city walls with public marketplaces? Would be lying if I said I wasn't considering establishing a Thieves' Guild of sorts.

The final questions I have regard the geography of the world itself. Is it mostly plains and farmland, with the exception of the mountains and deserts? How well populated is this land? Would there be a possibility for a nomadic peoples in the plains-like environment to have existed without being completely wiped out?

Just trying to get a good feel and idea for what kind of world we are dealing with before I dive headfirst into creating a character. @Kitty @Aerandir

@webboysurfi can create more Forrest’s, as it says I will constantly update. I just know from the previous venture that there was a major forest there. There are multiple forests and hilly areas, I just didn’t put the effort to add them, I can later. So don’t feel discouraged as well about the woodsman. Just because they are around doesn’t mean they are All in the woods around the city. They are spread out through the kingdom.

There will be plains, in the north northeast, so nomads could be there technically. Each major city (five for now can add more) has a bunch of Villages and towns (10 20 or so) that help support the population of the cities. Within five miles surrounding at least. If you wish to add a city I can add one, this is just the bare minimum for now.

I would say it’s populated enough but still has tons of land to roam.

As for cities it would consists of homes and market places/ shops and the like. Which can be found in the real world as well. Thieve guilds would defiantly be apart of the underground world.

As for alchemy I’m sure it existed as well, as to the extent I don’t know. That’s something kitty and I will have to go over a bit.

@Aerandir I'll keep that in mind. Let's say that at the moment Annabelle is simply on the run from the law.

Well, if she was a Merchant, she probably lived in Yeruse, though as a freeholder I was thinking that she lived in a town north of Yeruse (from where she ran into the woods to be an outlaw)

Of course, if a particular area is known as Tricaelia's breadbasket, Annabelle might be from there

Some tentative interest here. I've been really trying to break into group roleplays for awhile now-I've honed my skills in partnerships and all of that, but it's been a bit since I've shaken off the rust and leapt into a group venture. It's a shame, because group stuff is how I got my start.

I'm curious however, how much leave are we given to world build? Right now I've got a bit of a concept of a foreign merchant princeling (not...actual royalty, but hailing from a nation where royalty is something of a concept that's up for grabs. Have a manor? Have money? Or simply have enough scary men with swords? Congratulations. You're a prince now!) out to make a profit, at first. Maybe pick up some lore while he's at it.

Add it his ever-growing collection of curiosities.

The works.

Basically, someone with no initial investment in revolution/revolt, but gradually finds himself drawn to oppose the crown, despite his the risks it poses to his operations.

Now, if worldbuilding isn't allowed on the part of players-I found no references in the rules, so I'm not sure-then this won't work clearly. So I'm asking if the above concept sounds workable before I go to the effort of drawing up a character sheet.
