@Goldeagle1221I plan to have a nomad race with a tiny bit of twist.
For one they know gunpowder or some equivalent of it. The are infamous for these smoke and loud noise making tubes they use on horsebacks and they are also renowned craftsmen so long nothing big is involved. They have nice mirrors, pots and kettles to trade. If you're on good terms with them they might even willing to share things more valuable.
Regardless they are nomads who are semi-fragmented into tribes and seek no permanent residence.
Their history would involve some pretty nasty abuses of the Volcano and paying the price dearly for it.
So what do you think? Would such a nation be okay with the setting? They are overall small players in the international politics but they could be fun for interactions. Not to mention the fact they are divided into multiple tribes can give them some amusing political environment.
Having nomads who are actually decent in craftsmanship and technology could be amusingly unique, IMO.
If you want explanation why and how, I already have it.

We have literal magicians and alchemy. It may not be gunpowder but creating a simple explodey mixture is rather simple in comparison to anything else.
Guns are required exactly because they're so simple when we talk about primitive types. They can be created by people without extensive infrastructure unlike crossbows or anything similar.
Besides, I am a strong opponent of Fantasy Gun Control. It's ridiculous because firearms alone barely changed anything. It was a centuries long progress.
Any sorts of magical effect or item would shake up the world far greater than the existence of firearms ever would. It's also well-known that the majority of the classic middle ages was also the dawn of firearms. Eliminating one would bring down the another.
It's the preorgative of all players to decide what kind of weapons and other details they have so I of course won't force anyone but again, firearms of the early kind won't change zilch in the setting.

As a person well versed in history, I'm well aware of the presence of firearms throughout history as well as the process (the very long process) they went through before they even slightly forced the adaptation of warfare. I am however the Gm, and simply refused in regards to the players interest. Convince every player, and then sure.

Race and Ethnic demographic: Rohrer
Rohrer are a race of tall and relatively slim humanoids with pointed ears. They are light for their size and fleet of foot. They are known for their dexterity, balance and expertise to ride on horseback. Rohrer are a sub-species of humans and the two can interbreed. Half-Rohrerim are welcome to the tribe if they pass their test. The reverse is much less likely because either righly or just out of judgement the Half-Rohrerim are considered the bastards left behind after raids.

Economy description: Rohrerim economy on the surface is simple. They are nomads who wander their lands according to the change of seasons and the thickness of the vegetation. They herd animals, forage food from the nature and overall rarely have any agriculture. They also visit neighboring nations and cities both to trade with them or raid them. They usuall rely on bartel albeit more knowledgeable kinsmen may also exchange currency. Trade, spoils and self-sustenance. These 3 terms define the Rohrerim economy the most. Again while on the surface this may look simple it's complicated with various traditions. To a certain extend wealth and goods acquired are shared between the entire tribe and re-distributed according to the hiearchy and fame. The best and most renowned members are renowned the most and so does their family or close associates.

Culture

Religion Demographics: All seven major tribes are beleivers of the Werdenkaiser religion albeit the details may slightly vary between each other (sometimes enough to cause strife). Werdenkaiser is a strange animalist religion beleiving in the spirits of all things. the strangest part is that it evolved from a strictly monotheist belief of the old empire which in turn was developed by a Volcano faith cult which used to replace the previous shamanist/politheist belief system of the natives.
Religious heads: Seher (pl: Sehere) who are said to see the future (which is usuall made up but occasionally true) and have a connection to the supernatural since birth (again, potentially made up). The most prestigious Seher in the tribe is called Oberseher. Their duty is to advise the Führer and perform rituals to the spirits during days of celebrations or prior to important events. Sehere in general are not only religious person but also trusted with keeping their history and knowledge of science. Sehere are somewhat famous as alchemists, astronomers and witch-doctors albeit these people only make up a relatively small percentage.
Cultural name for the Volcano: Der Uralte Raucher (The Ageless Smoker)
The Volcano is considered one of the greatest spirit in the world. It's neither good or bad but its actions are always righteous by the laws of the universe. Rohrerim fear the Volcano and avoid it whenever possible. Approaching the Volcano ordirectly asking it for favors is considered sacrelige while refusing its offer during the dream is grave offense to the spirits thus the average Rohrer never considers it.

General Culture Description: Rohrerim are nomads descending from a great empire in the past. Their writings and tales describe that their once great country played with the Volcano and was struck gravely as a consequence. To avoid their mistakes from the past the Rohrerim refuse to settle down and for centuries they live their lives as nomads, never actively seeking nor refusing the Volcano again. Rohrerim culture is a weird mixture of their past heritage and their new identity. Their letters and language are incompatible with any other nation and they technically belong to a distinctly different sub-species. Rohrerim stick out and they prefer it being this way. They value their culture and unwilling to accept foreign influences. They view their tribe as family and consider other Rohrerim tribes as close neighbors while everyone else is stranger. That doesn't mean they refuse foreigners especially when it comes to trade or hearing interesting stories but overall a Rohrer cares about its tribe and nothing else.

Military and History

Type of Military: Save for the Sehere all male members of the Rohrerim are taught in warfare, horseback riding and their family's brand of craftsmanship. They are traditional warriors and their raids are a reoccouring fear to their neighbors. The leader of each family (and at times other members) are always considered warriors who raise arms in the name of their Führer and ride into battle.

Total Military Fighting Units: ~ 21,000 (if we count every tribe together)

Unit Demographics: All Rohrerim combatants fight on horseback and own at least 4-5 mounts to be always ready for battle. Their fighting scene are the oppen styeppes where mobility dominates the battle. Rohrerim received their name for their choice of weapon the Rohr (fire-pipe) which is effectively a primitive gun. It uses Donnersalz powder as propellant which is mixed together from material found and brewed out in the nature. It fires various type of ammunition depending on the tribe's customs or what they have at hand. Richer warriors use metal projecties while the poorest may just fire rocks at the enemy. Compared to bows and arrows the Rohr has less range and questionable power due to the highly variable construction and loads. Their true strength lies within the terrible noise and smoke they generate which tends to terrorize their enemy. Due to their lighter builds Rohrerim are less likely to wear armors and prefer mobility and their bravery over protection. Aside from their eponymous Rohre they also use various melee weapons and medium-length cavalry spears in combat. The times they're facing sieges they build large tubes made of hollowing out trees. These are called the Grüssrohre and usually fire stone projectiles propelled by Donnersalz.

Many of our names have ridiculously mundane origins. The creators probably just literally described what they saw.
Call them fire tubes if you want.
Anyways my other alternatives were the German equivalents of boom tubes or thundering tubes.

Which one you mean?
Well, the Rohr looks mostly like a hand cannon but with a flint to make sparks. No mechanism or trigger but the operator literally hits the stone.
Grüssrohre are wooden cannons. There are historical evidence to their use when normal artillery was either insufficient or unavailable.
Similarly finding large rocks or similar stuff to shoot is much more likely than having carts full of cannonballs "just in case". This kind of weapon is both convenient and simple enough to show the "primitive" state of my nation.

As for Donnersalz, it's a fantasy black powder. They have long traditions to their making and each tribe has their own recipes. Rohrerim rarely if ever is willing to trade Donnersalz to people outside their culture.

EDIT: After reading my profile and/or this post of mine, anyone who still have issues with my nomads' weapons please notify me. This is supposed to be a nation of sorts with an unique quirk. Nothing else. Horse archers are fun but if anyone knows me by now they also know I like to break the mold a bit.

I said something along these lines in the chatzy channel but I say it here.
Iron Age is vaguely defined both in regards of its start and end. In a way you can call it the equivalent of the majority of classic age.
The only semi-hard line which can be universally agreed on is the "dark ages" or early middle ages and even then only for Europe.
Anyways, I thought this is middle ages because I felt a bit of game of thrones vibe with the focus on characters and the various abilities effecting individuals and their relatives. Granted, ancient times also had great families rivalrizing with each other but without the intricacies of the feudal system it's a bit more difficult to define.

I don't want to encourage people to adopt these not-guns, either. Which is why the art of making Donnersalz is a secret they only rarely share with foreigners. It isn't like i wish to monopolize this tech either. I like the idea of somebody using whatever means to learn it, produce it in massive quantities and bring forth a change.
Though it also worths noting that aside from the wealthiest countries I don't think this mindset will work. In the ancient ages traditions bore greater weight than practicalities with the exceptions being the great empires which both had the power and realized the need to adapt.
I have a slight worry that some players may begin to play medieval nations or early modern age nations with the only difference being technology.

That being said if you don't wish to see guns I have another alternative:
Greek Dwarves
Dwarven craftsmen living in semi clan-like semi-democratic city states and actively trade with people. They are craftsmen and traders known for the quality of their goods and their mechanical knowledge.

Get in the spirit of 100-300 AD guys, drop these silly gun ambitions for iron and arrows. Hell, even crossbows are primitive and outclassed bu bows at this point.
