Compassionate to a fault, Hope is a gentle, calm, and temperate young man who often radiates with a benign and empathic vitality. However, his mother died during childbirth, so he never knew her, though apparently he takes after her greatly, especially in appearance. His dad often praised his mother and would tell him bedtime stories about her, detailing how she was so brave and loving and caring. Hope took these tales of his mother and stored them within the deepest crevices of his heart. So much so, that he writes letters to his mother in a diary or will talk to the stars at night. His father told him about how much his mother loved the stars. And now he does too. He feels like the stars are his way to connect to her. Despite never having met her, Hope continues to think fondly of his dearly departed mother.
When Hope began middle school, his father finally got remarried to a woman named Helena. Hope and Helena get along well, but he can't help but feel a sense of detachment from her. That feeling like she's trying to feel the void that his mother left. It's hard for him to explain. Since his dad got remarried, Hope takes on a more quiet and withdrawn persona at home.
